A Heavy-Flowering, Ultra-Fragrant, Reblooming Dwarf Lilac!

The most compact, heaviest-blooming dwarf Lilac ever grown, Syringa Bloomerang is a flower machine for 4 months or more every year. The heaviest flowering is in spring, when this compact, very well-branched shrub erupts in fragrant purply-pink bloom trusses, ideal for cutting yet irresistible in the garden as well. Then the flowers simply continue into summer, long past even the late-blooming Lilacs, with color present on the shrub all the way until autumn.

Introduced by Tim Wood of Spring Meadow Nursery, this cross of the famous dwarf Syringa ‘Josee’ outdoes all other members of the family with its generosity of blooms over a long, long season. Syringa Bloomerang reaches a petite 4 to 5 feet wide and 4 feet tall, an ideal size for smaller gardens or containers. Give it full sun and enriched, well-drained soil, water it during dry spells, and this ultra-fragrant mini will repay you in armloads of blooms!

Hardiness: Zones 4-7.

The ‘Connoisseur’s Citrus’

Moro Blood Orange is a variety of orange (Citrus sinensis) with crimson, blood-colored flesh. The fruit is smaller than an average orange. Its skin is usually pitted, but can be smooth.

Blood oranges are called the ‘connoisseur’s citrus‘ because they are sweet and highly flavored with a hint of strawberry and raspberry aftertaste. The name ‘Blood’ derives from its red blotches on the fruit’s skin and its reddish flesh and juice coloring.

The Moro Blood Orange is the most common of the pigmented oranges marketed in the U.S. It is a hybrid of ancient origin, possibly between the pomelo and the tangerine believed to have originated at the beginning of the 19th century in the citrus-growing area around Lentini (in the Province of Siracusa in Sicily. The orange-colored peel is commonly blushed with a burgundy color.

The Moro blood orange is the most brightly colored of the blood oranges. Anthocyanin, a pigment common to many flowers and fruit, (but uncommon in citrus fruits) is the same pigment that colors purple grapes) and is responsible for its distinctive flesh color and rind blush.

The blood orange is a very popular fruit along the Mediterranean Sea. The fruit of the Moro Blood Orange tree is of medium size and is very productive. Moro is also the earliest ripening of the blood oranges and usually ripens in the late winter and early spring in addition to being hardy to about 27 degrees F. The fruit is orange colored at maturity with light pink blush or red streaks at advanced maturity. It is juicy, deeply pigmented (almost violet-red) with a pleasant flavor.

The Moro Blood Orange tree is of medium vigor and size, spreading and round topped; very productive fruit (generally in clusters of three or more).

The 3 most common types of blood oranges are: the Tarocco (native to Italy), the Sanguinello (native to Spain), and the Moro, the newest variety of the three.

The Moro is the most colorful of the three types, with a deep purple flesh and reddish orange rind. This fruit has a distinct, sweet flavor with a hint of raspberry particular to blood oranges. Moro are “full-blood” oranges, meaning that the flesh ranges from orange-veined with ruby coloration, to vermilion, to vivid crimson, and nearly to black.

Health Benefits of Oranges

Oranges provide more fiber than any of the top 20 fruits or vegetables consumed today. Eating a medium-sized orange provides 28 percent of the recommended daily amount of dietary fiber. Sicilian Red oranges contain nutritional and preventive properties. A good source of Vitamin C, the fruit’s red pigment, anthocyanin, is an antioxidant that reduces the risks associated with many ailments, including age-related illnesses.

Blood oranges contain about 130% of the recommended amounts of Vitamin C, and diminish the risk of heart disease, some types of cancer and “bad” cholesterol build-up. They may also reduce the risk of cataracts. One medium-size orange contains 260 milligrams of potassium, 15% of the FDA’s daily recommendation. Potassium also lowers blood pressure, decreasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes, helps to regulate heart rhythm, and affects body growth and maintenance.

Oranges can also be a valuable source of iron, calcium and vitamin A.

‘Kaffir’ is the classic lime used in Thai cooking, its leaves and fruit are especially fragrant.

Each plant is selected for its size, shape, root health and potential productivity

Enjoy theses citrus trees indoors in winter and on the patio all summer long

Delicious zest adds flavor to a variety of dishes

Ships bare root

Dimensions: (Bare root trees are 26-28″ H from soil line at time of shipment)

The kaffir lime (Citrus hystrix DC., Rutaceae), also known as kieffer lime, makrut, or magrood, (Bai Ma-gkood,PewMa-gkrood) is a type of lime native to Indonesia, commonly used in Thai cuisine, and widely grown worldwide as a backyard shrub. The kaffir lime tree is well suited to container growing. The fruit is rough, bumpy green and grows on very thorny bush with very fragrant leaves. Even a small scratch of the lime releases a roomful of refreshing fragrance, like a fragrant bouquet of citrus blossoms.

Even though the kaffir lime is not the most beautiful fruit, it is incredibly important in Southeast Asian cooking (especially Thai recipes). Kaffir lime leaves cannot be replaced with any other type of citrus leaves. Their flavor is so important that anyone following a Thai recipe should take the time to find and use them as their special characteristics are irreplaceable.

In most regions of Thailand, the kaffir lime is so beloved that almost everyone’s home in the countryside has at least one tree growing in the yard. Because its strong flavor can over power the more subtle ones in a dish, the rind should be used sparingly, grated or chopped finely and reduced in a mortar with other paste ingredients until indistinguishable.

Some recommend that the name kaffir lime should be avoided in favor of makrud lime because kaffir is an offensive term in some cultures. For this reason, some South Africans refer to the fruit as K-lime. However, kaffir lime appears to be a much more common description.

Uses

The kaffir lime’s hourglass-shaped leaves (comprising the leaf blade plus a flattened, leaf-like leaf-stalk or petiole) are widely used in Thai cuisine (for dishes such as tom yum), Lao cuisine, and Cambodian cuisine, for the base paste known as “Krueng“. The leaves are also popular in Indonesian cuisine (Javanese and Balinese), for sayur assam – literally sour vegetables, and are also used along with Indonesian bay leaf for chicken and fish. They are also found in Malay and Burmese cuisines.

Kaffir lime is also used as a very effective cleaner, cleanser, and natural deodorizer.

The fruit is sometimes referred to in Indonesia as jeruk obat – literally “medicine citrus” because the juice and rinds of the kaffir lime are used in traditional Indonesian medicine.

Kaffir lime shampoo leaves the hair squeaky clean and invigorates the scalp. It is believed to freshen one’s mental outlook and ward off evil spirits. Kaffir lime has also been used for ages as a natural bleach to remove tough stains.

In folk medicine, the juice of kaffir lime is said to promote gum health and is recommended for use in brushing teeth and gums. The rind is an ingredient in medical tonics believed to be good for the blood and the essential oils in the fruit are incorporated into various ointments. Like lemon grass and galanga, the rind is also known to have beneficial properties for the digestive system.

Brings unusual color to the late-winter home!

When we saw this stunning new Amaryllis in Holland, we knew we must offer it. The blooms are very long-lasting, with long, slender, slightly recurved petals of lime-green, darkening toward the center into a star shape. They arise several to a stem on sturdy, compact plants that need no staking. Absolutely unparalleled for holiday decoration, they are also a fine addition to the late-winter home, brightening the room with one-of-a-kind color. There has never been an Amaryllis like ‘Evergreen’ available for American gardeners before!

This bulb is hardy only in zones 8-11, but can be grown year after year as a winter-blooming houseplant. Pot it up in October and leave it in bright light until the blooms begin to appear. Then set it in indirect light and enjoy many weeks of splendid color! Let the blooms pass and the foliage turn brown and fall over before storing it for next holiday’s display.

Easy and stunningly beautiful, Amaryllis Evergreen makes a very special gift.

This Ornamental Spinach Keeps You in Tasty Greens All Summer!

The red stems really jazz up the plate! 55 days.

The thick, dark green leaves of this edible ornamental provide tasty greens throughout the summer, when traditional spinach will not grow. The mild flavor makes Red Stem equally good cooked or fresh, and is more palatable to children than the peppery cool-season varieties.Heat-loving and vigorous, these attractive plants reach 6 feet or more if trained on a bean tower, trellis, lamppost, or any vertical structure with some porousness for twining.

The plants sport scarlet stems that contrast beautifully with the deep green of the thick, broad leaves. Many people grow Red Stem for purely ornamental purposes, but there’s a lot of good eating on this productive plant!Start seeds indoors, then transplant into the garden or large container (with support) in late spring. Nothing is easier or more productive.

Singles, doubles, large and small, colors from cream to burgundy!

Sunflowers come in an incredible array of colors, sizes, and forms these days, and this mix has them all! You’ll get singles and doubles, “small” flowers 5 to 6 inches across and huge ones 10 inches or more wide — all on plants that grow a uniform 5 to 7 feet tall and look lovely in a mixed planting. The color range spans from cream to lemon-yellow, gold, orange, bronze, red, and burgundy.

A ready-made field of Sunflowers. For a fun companion, try Sunflower Solar Babies Mix — the same diversity of flower form and color, but on dwarf plants. Sunflowers are the kings of the natural sunny summer garden, attracting butterflies and birds. They’re wonderfully easy to grow — just direct-sow the large seeds after all danger of frost. Not picky about soil type, they need direct sun. Thin the plants to 1 1/2 to 3 feet apart so that they can show off their foliage a bit as they grow.

These 4-pound fruits glow inside and out! 95 days.

Everything about Sunshine Hybrid is better than other Kabocha Squash varieties, from the sweet, nutty flavor to the glorious persimmon-orange color to the huge yields on compact plants. Winner of a 2004 All-America Selection Award, this is a winter squash you must grow and taste to believe! These rounded, flattish 4-pound fruits are so lovely you may be tempted to display them rather than eat them — but resist the impulse, because you wouldn’t want to miss out on the fabulous flavor! Sunshine Hybrid is completely string less, filled with succulent, ultra-sweet flesh with a nutty afterbite you’ll love.

The creamy-sweet flavor is brought out well when the fruit is baked, steamed, or even microwaved. Nutritious and delicious, Sunshine Hybrid belongs on your table this season!Seeds can be direct-sown in areas with a growing season of at least 95 days, or begun indoors and transplanted for an 80-day growth time. The fruit signals its ripeness for picking when the stems turn brown and the rind turns nearly scarlet and quite firm. Be sure to harvest Sunshine from the garden before the first hard frost. This space-saving vine needs only about 6 to 8 feet in which to ramble, so you can plan on more squash in less space than ever before with Sunshine.

Enjoy this fantastic winter squash fresh in midsummer or stored for several months thereafter!

Early-Blooming, Compact, and So Colorful!

Blooms begin just 6 to 8 weeks after sowing!

A Park Exclusive! With its early, profuse, and brilliant blooms on compact plants, Hotline has been the Salvia of choice for many gardeners since its introduction. And Burgundy is an unusual, deep red color, very stately and rich. These stocky, heavy 5- to 6-inch flower spikes begin appearing when the plant is just 6 inches tall–less than 2 months from sowing–and keep coming over an exceptionally long season. The plants reach 10 to 12 inches tall and wide, with large, lush forest-green foliage fanning out below the bloom stalk like a carpet. Very uniform between colors, the Hotline series has earned our High Performer citation for superior garden-worthiness–both for its beauty and for its easy, vigorous growth! And the seed is available only here at Park.

Hummingbirds love these ground-hugging plants, which bear fresh blooms and foliage all the way till frost. They are unrivaled for mass display in the border or bed, and combine well with other annuals in addition to other members of the Hotline family. Try Burgundy alongside clean white, for example, or new blue. Or just get the colorful mix of all 9 brilliant colors. Hotline’s compact size and neat habit makes it a good neighbor both to large-bloomed and taller, more vertical sources of color. And extreme tolerance of heat and drought means that you can neglect this Salvia a bit without losing a bloom. Salvia Hotline Burgundy is a snap to grow – just sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost in the spring. Not fussy about soil, it flourishes in blazing sun to dappled shade, tolerating heat, drought, and other vagaries of the weather. In the coastal West and milder climates of the South it can be grown as a perennial.

Bold Pink Florets with Bright Red Eyes

A Rare and Very Sturdy Phlox! Compact 2 1/2-foot plants never need staking! Often difficult to find, Eva Cullum is one of the brightest and most attention-getting Hardy Phloxes for the front of the border or bed. It sports large, rounded plumes of clear pink florets, each dotted with a glowing red eye, that can be seen from across the yard. And the very sturdy, compact 2 1/2-foot plants never need staking to support their summer-long bounty of color! Best of all, the foliage is remarkably disease-resistant, for a longer, healthier show in the garden.

Hardy Phlox is the backbone of the summer garden, providing continuous bloom from midsummer till the colder temperatures of fall. Nothing is easier or more rewarding to grow for the sunny border, and the cut flowers are delightful in the vase.

Select a spot in full sun or light shade with well-drained, moisture-retentive soil, deeply-worked (for good root development) and enriched with organics. Phlox are heavy feeders; you will want to keep the soil rich. Avoid overhead watering to prevent mildew–their biggest enemy–and keep the plants deadheaded to encourage even heavier blooming. For better-branched plants, try pinching out the tips of young plants when they are about 9 inches high.

Catch All the Waves this Summer — at a Great Savings!

Contains 1 packet each of all 7 Wave colors: Blue, Lavender, Misty Lilac, Pink, Rosy Dawn, Purple, and Easy Red.

Winner of 3 All-America Selections and the rare Fleuroselect Gold Medal, the Wave Petunias have transformed American gardens with their super fast-growing, luxuriant, easy-care beauty. These spreading Petunias bloom like crazy and grow incredibly fast (the original color, Purple, has been clocked at an astounding 2 inches per DAY, for a total of 5 feet of spread!), and they are simply choked with flowers all summer and into fall. Until you’ve grown a Petunia Wave, you don’t really know what the phrase “flower power” means.

Now you can get all 7 colors in the Wave series in an economical collection — 1 packet of each, so that you can design with the separate colors or merrily mix-and-match them. The seeds are pelleted, so you won’t waste a single one, and they’re guaranteed to grow like Topsy and bloom until the cows come home.

This collection is a $24.50 Value! Here’s exactly what you get (1 packet of 10 seeds of each color, for a total of 7 packets): This collection is comprised of 7 components.

Petunia Wave Purple Hybrid 1613. Purple is the Wave that started it all, and it’s still undoubtedly the finest for big blooms and rapid coverage. The vibrant rosy-purple blooms simply cover this 6-inch-tall plant–and that’s saying a lot, because the densely-branched plantspreads 5 feet or more before you can turn around.
Pkt is 10 pelleted seeds.
Qty 1 Pkt Seeds.

Petunia Wave Lavender Hybrid 1605. Petunia Wave Lavender Hybrid – Single, 2- to 2 1/4-inch deep blue blooms are shaped like big trumpets, with a very wide mouth and slightly recurved petal edges. A distinctive color on a very floriferous, weather-tough plant.
Pkt is 10 pelleted seeds.
Qty 1 Pkt Seeds.
Petunia Wave Pink Hybrid 1577. Pink is the brightest of all the Waves, with hot-pink blooms that just glow in the sunny garden.

8-inch flower panicles point straight up atop graceful 18-inch plants.

Eye-catching bright color and fascinating curved form combine to make this one of the most garden-worthy Statice’s, as well as one of the finest for fresh bouquets. All summer long, these upright, somewhat slender 18-inch plants sport long, curved panicles completely bedecked in bright rosy-pink blooms. Pointing straight up, they take twists and turns, creating a fascinating effect in front of dark green foliage, walls, or buildings.

A fine source of vertical color for arrangements, they are also long-lasting in the garden, holding their vivid hue and erect form well during the heat and humidity of midsummer.Easy to grow in full sun, Suworowii is not picky about soil type provided the drainage is adequate. Plants are superb for the border or bed, and indispensable for the cutting garden. The long panicles may be dried for Everlastings, but are probably most effective used in fresh bouquets. To dry, simply cut the stem at desired height, remove the foliage, and hang the branch upside-down in a well-ventilated, dry location.

An incredible ever blooming Astrantia, with brilliant 2-inch blooms. The bloom strength of this new Dutch Astrantia is nothing short of incredible!

Over many weeks in late spring and early summer, it sets hundreds of brilliant ruby red flowers on long, wiry stems, indifferent to the weather and so numerous you can pick a giant bouquet without making a dent in the look of the plant. Far and away the most floriferous Astrantia ever grown, ‘Venice’ is a powerhouse that must be grown to be believed. When mature, a single plant (just 22 inches high and about 13 inches wide) yields more than 600 blooms a season. It seems impossible, we know — yet wait until you see this ever bloomer continuously setting new buds.

Each flowering stem bears about 80 blooms, and when you consider that there are at least 8 flowering stems per plant, the numbers add up pretty quickly. Butterflies adore these blooms, of course, and the handsome green foliage completely vanishes beneath the radiant canopy of color at the height of bloom season. Each flower is about 2 inches wide, with a skirt of long, slender, pointed petals beneath a large fuzzy pompon of ruby red to burgundy, flecked with white to cream. The blooms are long-lasting both fresh and dried — in fact, with their intensity of color, they are one of the best Everlastings.

‘Venice’ was developed in Holland, and like all Astrantia, it is very easy to grow in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, it tolerates heat, humidity, rain, wind, and even drought. You never need pamper this workhorse, though it does flower best in well-enriched soil. An absolute necessity for the cutting garden, it is also compact enough to dot throughout the sunny perennial garden for tremendous late spring and early summer color!Upright and neat, ‘Venice’ is a good choice for containers as well.

Lush Tropical Color for Flowerpots and Shady Beds Both the foliage and the flowers are bicolored. Whether you use this splendid tropical plant indoors, in containers, or in the warm shady garden, Brazilian Fireworks Maracas is a year-round delight. With its long, angular leaves of deep green scored with silver and its central bloom cluster of vivid pink and purple, it distinguishes itself beautifully as an oasis of rich color and fascinating foliage.Outdoors, Brazilian Fireworks blooms all summer, and offers the best foliage variegation in deep shade. What a nice change of pace for the shady border — large-leafed, lush tropical beauty.

In containers and indoors, it remains neat and symmetrical, making a charming poolside addition. Just 8 to 10 inches high and a bit less wide, it fits neatly into standard 6-inch pots. This plant grows readily from seed, blooming the first year. Showy enough to give as gifts even to non-gardening friends (it’s an easy houseplant!), it makes a statement in any setting. Give it a try this season.

Pkt is 10 seeds.
