For a double private room at a guest house in Kenya, expect to pay anywhere from $10 – $20 per night. Another step up the budget at mid-range hotels can cost $20 – $40 per night.

There are several standards and levels of accommodation in this country. Poor or rich, you are definitely covered. The cheapest Kenyan hotels will charge as little as $1-$2 for a night. These are the last resort for any traveler because of their deplorable state of sanitation.

Hostel dorms will cost you $6-$10 per night. They are readily available but not recommendable for a tourist. A middle range hotel will cost you $20 to $40 per night. These are usually in an acceptable state and you will not find it hard to spend a night in one of them

If you choose a double private room in one of the glamorous guest houses it will cost you $10 to $50 per night. It is upon you to decide according to you budget limits

Cost of Eating Food in Kenya

kenya-safari-food

Delicious meals on the Kenyan streets food will most probably consist of a plate of ugali which is a common staple food or less likely beans, vegetables and rice or some grizzly meat stew that usually goes for $0.7 per plate. Kenyan streets are littered with food stands that sell cheap foods mostly consisting of starch. This is consumed by the low class, but it can be adventurous to some of the recipes such as samosa’s or mutura which are stuffed with meat. Such fast foods can be as cheap as $0.1. There is no reason why you should not try one of the dishes. If you decide to for a Kenya safari coast, madafu (which are literary premature coconuts) will quench your thirst amid the coast blazing sun and soaring temperatures. They go for as little as $0.5

Grilled meat also referred to as nyama choma is a popular dish throughout Kenya. A kilogram of goat nyama choma at a local eatery will cost you between 400- 500 Kenyan shillings approximately $4- 5. In the bigger hotels especially for the well of and the tourist a kilogram of choma (roast meat) will cost you 800 -1000 Kenyan shillings or about $8-10. A whole roasted chicken is relatively cheap in the smaller hotel, going for only 450 Kenyan shillings or approximately $4.5. There is no reason why you should not try these dishes.

If you prefer to take your lunch in the medium range hotels it will cost you a range of 200- 500 Kenyan shillings which translates to $2.5 to $6 for every meal.

A delicious meal at Burger Hut Nairobi probably Africa’s best burger is in the range of 200 to 400 KES or approximately $2.36 – $4.70)Ken chick inn also offers quality meals at competitive prices

The high end and classy hotels offer meals at the range of 500- 1000 Kenyan shillings. For instance at The Smart Village Eritrean restaurant, you can eat to your fill for only 600 Kenyan shillings or $7 per head which is very fair.

A 1 liter bottle of water goes for about 60 Kenyan shillings or $0.6. It is ironical that a bottle of mineral water goes for more than soda in Kenyan restaurants.

Cost of Taking a Safari in Kenya

In Kenya, safaris are simply not that cheap no matter the variables you match or choose. The total sum of a safari will include transportation, food, entry fees, and lodging. If you have no access to a private vehicle, I strongly recommend joining an all inclusive safari tours. There are several companies that provide safari services and are willing to take you wherever you want. This should not be hard to find since these companies are all over attraction sites. Be prepared to pay more than $500 for a three day safari. A single day will cost you $100- $200

Here are some of the best safari companies I would suggest

Affable ToursBuena Vista ToursNatural Track SafarisInside Africa Safaris

I strongly recommend that you do more research on this

Kenya might not be one of the cheapest countries to travel or stay in; however it has a lot to offer. You will definitely want to travel in the whole country after you take a Kenya safari coast. The coast has more to offer than you can imagine. Kenya is also the home to the wild beast migration, a wonder of the world. You should be probably planning to travel there.

As usual, Kenya has always found itself on the spotlight both for the god and the bad reasons. Nairobi, Kenya’s capital is the favorite business and media hub in Africa. However it has found itself on the negative side often.

Consequently, what are the circumstances facing Kenya and how are they going to impact your travel and stay in Kenya? It is ideal to look at the facts and demystify the common myths with this country. This is a detailed Kenyan travel guide on the situation of security in this African wonder country

The question of whether there is safety in Kenya for tourists has been burning in several people who have always dreamed travel to this country. This might be a difficult question to answer but we have no option but give at least a rational answer to it. We all know that Kenya, home to the wild beast migration has several tourist attraction sites that we all would like to visit therefore we cannot just ignore this question.

The recent Alshabab attacks and kidnaps might have tainted the global picture of this country, but there are several other factors to consider. These attacks are localized in some parts of Nairobi or the porous border with Somalia. Most of Kenya’s world heritage sites have not been affected in any way but these terrorists’ attacks. To answer this question appropriately I have categorized certain regions and the state of their security so far.

Extreme risk areas

The areas bordering Somalia have a considerably high risk to your safety. These areas are characterized by frequent kidnaps and terrorists attacks. These areas include, Mandera County, Garisa County and areas within a radius of 60 kilometers from the border with Somalia which includes Pate Island and kiwayu in coast province.

There is also extreme risk on the areas bordering the Ethiopian border and within a radius of 30 kilometers .we strongly advice against travelling to these areas.

High Risk

There is a high risk of your security in selected coastal areas such as the Tana River County. Against the common belief that most counties in the coast province are insecure, calm has resumed and life is back to normal. Counties such as lamu, an historical and world heritage center have regained calmness. Most of these places have suffered from bad publicity portrayed by the international media. You should get there to experience the calmness. The threat of terrorism has reduced greatly.

Some risk

Just like in any other country, there is some risk in other parts of Kenya. There is the threat of violent crime, kidnapping and terrorism. However, this should raise no alarm on the security status, since such happenings rarely occur to tourists. You can comfortably take a Kenya safari without worrying about your safety. These areas such as the Mount Kenya national park have never known insecurity since Kenya got independence. If you are planning about visiting the country, you should probably pay this mountain homage by visiting and climbing it. People around are also very helpful and charming to be with

Civil unrest

Since Kenya is a democratic country, it is common to see protests and demonstrations in large gatherings. The problem is, some of these intended to be peaceful can turn out violent. For your safety, it is important to avoid such demonstrations. Tribal clashes and banditry activities can also be reported time to time. These are also common in several other countries of the world, so there is nothing to worry about. Just keep off these areas and your safety will be guaranteed.

Is it safe to travel to Kenya in 2016?

Currently, there are several irresistible offers on lodges and camps. Additionally, with a comparatively low number of tourists visiting this country due to the fabricated security fears that thrive among international reporters you can anticipate quieter camps and camps with excellent services. Nevertheless, increased security crack downs carried out with no apologetic smiles have greatly improved the security of this wonder country. However, this does not imply that you should go displaying your valuable items. Be very attentive since petty crime is prevalent. The welcome that you will receive from Kenyans is unrivaled by any other in the world.

If like many safari goers your goal is to see the big five of the wildlife world, you will not be disappointed on a Tanzania safari tour. Tanzania’s diverse and rich wildlife follow the turquoise waterways around many gaming parks across the country. Accenting the spectacular landscape and expansive views, Africa’s highest peak Mount Kilimanjaro stands majestically in the background.
You have many options for visiting Tanzania’s splendid gaming reserves. Most visitors choose a guided tour. Guides are familiar with the terrain, practice sustainable tourism and, importantly, know where to find the wildlife as they migrate throughout the area during the year. For a Luxury Safari Tanzania has many luxury accommodations available at safari lodges and camps.
Most tourists venture to the Tanzania wildlife parks where they choose vehicle, walking, cycling or canoe tours. Each park has different wildlife and terrain, offering a safari experience to suit all travellers. While the parks receive many visitors, they are considered wild and, for the most part, untouched. Tourists can enjoy a high level of interaction with the animals – at a safe distance. Wildlife are known to come very close for close up shots. Leopards and monkeys may even hitch a ride on top of a vehicle. Elephants, zebras and giraffes walk in front of vehicles and peak in and say hello. A site to see is the tree leopard lounging in a big tree by the roadside, sometimes hauling its very large prey with it.
Lions and Leopards, Oh My!
Tanzania is home to Africa’s biggest wildlife park, Selous. The Selous game reserve, though one of the busiest, is considered to be largely untouched. The wildlife present on your visit will depend on the time of year. Many migratory animals and birds pass through the park. The richest display of wildlife is present from late summer to early fall. Knowledgeable guides help visitors follow the migratory patterns. For longer stays, several camping sites and options are available, from tents to lodges.
Out on safari, lions, leopards, giraffe, buffalo, baboons, zebras, and many other animals make regular appearances. The mysterious wildebeest is known to pass through in thunderous herds. This shaggy beast is often seen leaping high and gracefully into water.
Amateur bird watchers to ornithologists flock to Selous for its over 400 species of birds. For a peak at Tanzania’s rare birds, visit the lagoons and sandbanks. Boat safaris allow you to access other popular habitats, including the islands and channels. The best bird watching months are off season for safaris, as this is when bird migration is the highest. Keep a keen eye out for the African wattled lapwing or common white-headed vulture, among other cherished species.
The Great Ruaha River
Adventurers like Ruaha, one of Tanzania’s best kept safari secrets. The Great Ruaha River flows through the 20,000 km park. With the area experiencing drier years, gamers follow the animals as they gather around the Ruaha river and other water sources. The landscape is wilder and rockier but for the more adventurous, the wildlife viewing is spectacular. Predatory animal numbers are high. Cheetahs, lions, leopards, and hyenas roam these hills in abundance. Ruaha is another area with superb birding. Several camps and lodges are scattered around the reserves. Night safaris, however, are banned in Ruaha park.
Chimpanzee Trekking
Large chimpanzee populations can be found by trekking into the majestic Mahale mountains. To find the chimpanzees you have to ape them by following their ascending path through the mossy forests, over streams and past waterfalls. Lake Tanganyika’s turquoise waters beckon you below. Chimps call out and tease you along the way. Eventually, you will be rewarded as you reach their habitat and their numbers multiply. Visitors are always fabulously entertained by their cousins who engage in often theatrical human-like behaviors – feuding, playing, and even politicking to get their way. At the height of the tourist season, you will find the chimpanzees lower on the mountain. Later in the season, you will be required hike higher and deeper into the forest.
Other popular Holidays in Tanzania include fishing and boating. The gaming reserves offer many different water expeditions on the expansive turquoise waterways where you can enjoy spectacular views of the wildlife feeding at the lakes and great birding.
The local sightseeing is always worth a look. African Safari Tours are not only about cavorting with the wildlife but also meeting local villagers in the settlements nearby the gaming reserves.

Advice About Kenya Safaris

KENYA TRAVEL ADVICE isn’t much different than advice for anyone headed out into any foreign country or tourist travel spot.

Traveling from the States will require an approved travel visa, give yourself the right amount of time to get one approved. You have to apply through the Kenyan embassy.

Consider applying for an East African Tourist Visa, which is good for three months and give you access to a few other countries, opening up travel options due to its unlimited entrance.

Get your physical earlier rather than later. You will have to see your doctor for a check up and the necessary care before traveling to anywhere in Africa.

Learn some street slang. As the national languages are English and Swahili the languages are sure to have melded in some places. Knowing what people are saying makes life easier when traveling.

Warning

There is currently a KENYA TRAVEL GUIDE WARNING from the US and other governments for various reasons.

Many travel to and from Kenya without incident every year, but keep your guard up as civil unrest, ethnic disputes and terrorist attacks happen in Kenya periodically with unnerving amount of unpredictability.

Avoid boiled foods unless you are sure of the water source. Keep an eye out for food hygiene, not all water is safe or food correctly handled, look out for food dangers.

Get a money/passport belt to hold your most valuables under your clothes and leave your jewlry at home.

With proper preparation and a little street smarts, Kenya can be the dream African vacation you have always dreamed of taking. It is lovely with a rich history, mild climate and varied landscape Kenya is a wonder.

One of the most amazing experiences available for families on a Kenya safari is seeing the annual wildebeest migration. The migration of over 2 million wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson gazelle is the largest of its type in the world and a truly magnificent spectacle. The migration occurs every year between the Masai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania where these beasts embark on an epic journey in search of fresh water and grazing. The best time to take a Kenya safari if you want to be a part of the migration is during July and October. Along the way the animals face many challenges; the Mara River being one and hungry predators being another. Lions and Hyena can be seen in packs looking to single out the weak and grab their next meal. There are some family friendly camps and lodges situated in the Masai Mara that are positioned to make the most out of the wildebeest migration, and one of the best ways to follow the herds closely is by staying in a mobile camp that moves as the migration does. Early morning game drives, walking safaris, horseback safaris and hot air balloon rides are also available.

Meet the Masai

Aside from Kenya’s natural beauty and dynamic wildlife, the culture is what makes this country really unique. There are over 40 tribes in Kenya but the famous of them all is the Masai tribe. Known for their distinct red dress and unique lifestyle, the Masai tribe can be visited whilst on a Kenya safari. This experience gives you and your family the chance to meet local Masai people, learn about their lives and get involved with bush skills and craft making activities. You will learn how to build bush camps, use bow and arrows and sit around the camp fire listening to stories that have been passed through the land for centuries. This is a wonderful addition to a Kenya safari and something each member of the family will treasure for years to come.

Relax on the Coast after a Kenya Safari

After all the action and wilderness of a Kenya safari, why not conclude your holiday on the Kenya Coast? Relax on the pristine beaches as your children swim in the clear blue seas and try the exciting water sports on offer, or take a historic trip to one of the ancient islands on the coastline. There are plenty of luxurious hotels that cater for families or spacious villas that provide family suites on your own private stretch of beach. The Kenyan Coast is a must if you’re looking for peace and tranquility after a Kenya safari holiday.

The Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel, Southern Palms, and The Flamingo Beach offer the perfect getaway for adult couples and groups that are traveling together. The striking locations, great rooms and exciting night life make your Kenya holidays the most interesting time imaginable. Enjoy being pampered with their excellent service and quality accommodations.

Going to Kenya without enjoying the delights of a safari would be unthinkable! Whether alone or with a whole family, going on safari is something that will live forever in your memories. Have your cameras ready and get once in a lifetime photos of wild animals in their natural habitat as you drive along in safety. Whether you choose a brief one night trip or the full six exciting days, a Kenya safari is like nothing else you’ll ever experience! Imagine the incredible images your camera will be able to capture! Imagine the memories that you can store up to share with those not lucky enough to have enjoyed such an amazing holiday. Imagine the educational impact that a Kenyan safari can have on your children and their education!

Whatever currency you use at home can be easily converted into Kenyan shillings and Banknotes. The Central Bank of Kenya is available to help you with all your money questions and conversion needs. Remember to pay attention and obey the rules about entering and leaving the country with Kenya money as you do not want to violate any laws.

Whether your passion is golf, horseback riding, swimming, snorkeling, and safaris or just relaxing in an exotic paradise, Kenya will give you as much fun as you want. It’s the perfect place for your holiday, with or without the kids!

Today more couples are opting for a winter safari honeymoon packages and it’s easy to see why that more and more couples are opting to have their wedding and honeymoon during this season.

Firstly with it being at the end of the year you will have more time to find the best safari honeymoon packages and wedding packages, which in the long run will help to relieve more stress and should hopefully make both occasions run more smoothly with the extra preparation time.

Secondly, what could be more incredible to end the year celebrating your love as a newly married couple whilst also escaping work and the winter chill?

The best safari honeymoon packages often tend to include Milan, Paris, New York, Venice and Dubai; admittedly these are all incredibly romantic honeymoon destinations but these locations with the exception of Dubai are rather cold in the winter, so if you want to escape the winter weather for warmer climes then a long haul destination will be more suitable for you. Countries such as South Africa, Australia and Thailand all have their summer between November and March whilst in Europe and America (western hemisphere), they have their winter.
