Can heart failure be prevented in older people? Maybe, according to a new study

Heart failure could be stopped in aging people, according to a new Japanese study.
The study at the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine claims one gene, P13k, is the main culprit for heart failure causes as we get older.
If the P13k gene is suppressed, the tissue cells will not age as fast.
The study shows promise in heart aging research but we need to note it is only a study.
Much work still needs to be done to understand how our heart tissue ages and how we can prevent heart failure.
However, it is a good start and if most of the damage is done by P13k, then by controlling P13k we may be able to control heart aging in the future.

Troop Greeters are providing support and love for our retuning troops. This is a fine work that is really being appreciated by everyone...

Troop greeters are being spotlighted in time for Veterans Day by such media outlets as PBS.
A documentary featuring their work and dedication for our military will be shown this week.
Troop greeters are mainly retired seniors who are at the airports waiting for returning troops. They shake our heroes’ hands and provide support and love for those returning from the wars.

This is a very good work by seniors who are making a difference. They are filling in a need as these young men and women return to the U.S. and they are showing appreciation for a job well done.

Seeing this story on the Fox Channel reminded me of the story my uncle told about returning to the U.S. after having served in WWII.

He had landed on Utah beach early in the morning on D-Day and lived to tell the tale, but no one was there to greet him when his plane reached Maine in 1945. It was the first time those men had been on American soil in over four years.

All my uncle wanted was a glass of cold fresh milk. He had been craving it all that time.
I think the little things mean a lot and the troop greeters are certainly doing a lot by being there for our military.

Which companies will be among some of the best for serving seniors heathcare needs in the future?

What are the best companies that specialize in health products, drugs and services that we can invest in?

Are there companies out there which will actually excel and make money in the future?

Several health stock analysts have supplied their lists.

Granted, we are not giving investment advice, but we think their answers are interesting.

Among some of the favorites are Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic Inc and Boston Scientific.

How these companies were chosen is interesting because one the biggest across the board reasons was because the senior population is increasing and these companies are understanding the needs of an aging population.

More seniors mean more needs and more challenges.

Money will also be tighter in the future and health providers are going to have to provide services, products, drugs, etc at lower prices. These companies also recognize that fact, according to the analysts.

Caregiving is suffocating you. Your job and career are suffering because you are caring for your aging parents. That's bad enough, but when relatives who aren't helping start to criticise....

You are experiencing more care giver problems.
Each day and night bring new challenges. You can’t rest. You can’t relax.
Your aging parents go to bed and you think you’ve got a few hours to yourself.
Wrong. Your father falls out of bed at 1:30 AM and cuts his head.
Now there’s more worry along with more needed first aid.

You wonder how you will cope the next day or the next week.
You feel alone, because no one comes by and no one calls. They’re all busy with their own lives and careers. There are lots of excuses.
So you simply try to get it all done, the best you can.

Then the mistakes start to happen. Your own business or career begins to falter because you are having to spend more and more time caregiving. You are unable to take care of the details anymore because you don’t have the time. Your aging parents and their needs come first.

Each person deals with the criticisms from relatives and well meaning friends in different ways. You may resent it. It may drive a wedge deeply into the relationships that will never heal. After all, where were they when you needed help?

Folks, I’m going to to tell this like it is.
Caregiving is hard. It may be the biggest challenge many of us have ever faced. It’s our own personal Mt. Everest.
We have to climb daily, hourly, and many of us feel like we are doing it alone. It’s suffocating us and sometimes we can’t breathe.

We’re not sure how to ask for help. Many of us are independent by nature. Even asking for a handicap license plate for my car was an ordeal, as I wrote about a few days ago.
Being told I can’t have one was a blow, but at least they gave me the handicap card, which is a whole lot of trouble to constantly have to put up on the rear view mirror.

Where is the church?
I think the church wants to help and tries to help, but our generation has not been adequately prepared for long lasting caregiving that can go on for years. The church needs to educate its members and others on how to care give and what to expect.
That would be a real community service and if churches would stop spending so much time trying to entertain youngsters they might have time to deal with the real hands on difficulties of this life.

How do you feel about all of this?
Write in and tell us.
After all, we’re in this together.
