I love sectionals. Just so comfy. So connecting. If someone is on the complete opposite side, you still feel close… I also love leather ottomans, but that will be for another post. Listening to LL Cool J and my husband sing the lyrics and cook. Beautiful day! 78 degrees at 3pm. Spring is in the air.

But, let’s talk sofas.

Writing the Notes

Now that my mother is gone, I am trying to remember all of the things that she did while I was growing up. One of those things was writing me notes. Whether I was at camp or out of town, she always wrote me notes. Since she won’t be around for my daughter, I want to carry on this tradition. I’m always looking for beautiful stationary. There is just something about receiving a handwritten note that is of a bygone era. I wish my mother were still here to write notes to my own daughter, but she will be alive in the notes that I give to her. Those of you who still have a mom, tell her how much you love her, and encourage her to talk about her fears, her disappointments, her needs and desires. When they are gone, you will wish you would have done and said more.

Now get to writing!

Houston to Denver…Denver to Houston. Back HOME again!

Hello everyone. My husband and I just got back to Houston from a family reunion trip to Denver, CO. We had such a great time being all together again. I have two older brothers, and they both have children, so I enjoyed seeing them and getting some quality “aunt time.”

I realized that I haven’t revealed my name or much about me on my blog, and I want to do more of that. My name is Becky Griffin. I have been married since December 11, 2008. I have a precious husband who adores me and who I adore. We have two furry babies: Agnes (the namesake of my blog) is a spaniel mix breed rescued from animal control in 2004, and Mirabel the tabby mix who keeps everyone in the house in line. We live in Houston, TX, for the time being. I hail from Baton Rouge, LA. I don’t miss living in Louisiana for anything, but I do have fond memories of my hometown and always will. My husband and I aspire to own our own construction/real estate company. This is our 5-year-family-goal. For now, I blog and substitute teach, and he is a commercial diver.

I will be giving you more “personal” tidbits on this blog from now on. But, that will get you started.

I’m back in Houston. I spent a week in Baton Rouge with my dad. It’s nearly springtime over there, but it wasn’t a pleasure trip. It was a hard week for my family. But, when hard things come, faith is imperative. We know that we have a Saviour who loves and guides us through all things. Even the bad things. He is using this evil thing for good in our lives, and we just have to hold on to see what He has in store. Patience is a hard virtue to obtain and keep. These are the things on my mind emotionally, but I have a lot of things on my designer palate as well.

I love the simplicity in this kitchen. The white cabinets, white backsplash, black countertops and simple honey wood floors.

Once again, the simplicity of this kitchen is really stunning. Because when you do have a beautiful piece like the oven or the faucet, they really stick out. The windows in this kitchen (including the skylight) really add beautiful light to the space.

I love the use of wood in this space. The island is gorgeous.

I love the ceiling and the unique wooden pieces. The table and hutch on the far wall is really cool. It’s so Provencal.

The blue piece on the left is the double refrigerator and wine chiller. Isn’t it beautiful? And what about that oven?

These kitchens just make me happy. Do they make you happy?

My birthday is the first official day of Spring. March 21st. With that day lurking (I’ll be 29 again, and maybe I’ve said that way too many times!) I am reminded of all things bloom. It should be a glorious day. All of the flowers are basically in full bloom during my birthday week (in the deep South, of course, I can’t speak for the rest of the states). People say they still experience wintry weather well into March, and what I would say to them is “make a trip down South, we’ll leave the light on for ya!”

One day I shall have my very own “kitchen garden” like the one shown above.

These lovely flowers are from Southern Living.com and are called “Lenten Roses” or Hellebores. They are delicate and slightly scented. Lovely addition to your table, I’m sure.

This “No Mow” yard reminds me of the yards in Baton Rouge, where I grew up. We had a lot of shade trees, and grass doesn’t much like shade, now does it? The perfect solution, as shown here, monkey grass and ferns.

News Anchorwoman Jane McGarry met designer Ken Blasingame (the man designed the White House for Dubya) in Dallas, TX. She stumbled upon his storefront while out shopping. She bought a few things and struck up a conversation with the designer. She asked him if he would help her with her home, and the following pictures ensued. Might I say, WOW! So colorful. It looks like a fiesta.

Those Texas sunflowers sure are pretty!

the Indian Loveseat is also a day bed for guests. The draperies are Westgate.

Love the chandelier. It’s an original from Mexico. I’m sure if you left for the border, you could find one in a market somewhere. Good luck!

The “full-time guest” in this kitchen is the carved wooden deer head from India. Nice touch.

The door surrounds are actually faux painted, faux bois! Can you believe that? They are unbelievable and painted by Robert Wilkins. Love the table draped with Batik fabric.

As I listen to the wind whip by, I’m thinking about dinner and cleaning up. What better thing to do than that? Look at lovelies, and share them with you. My husband and I have been married now for 14 months. We are newlyweds, and we plan on staying newlys for life! We have made a commitment to each other to make it work and to talk about everything. I can see us sitting on the bench below, sipping sweet tea, and talking about the days that have passed. He is my hero and my love. We are gathering ideas and thoughts for our first home and for our future progeny. Whenever I find something, whether it is a fine piece of furniture or an article about raising kids I always put it in the file for later. These things below are some things I would like to have one day. He may say otherwise, and that would be fine. We always compromise. But, for now, a girl can dream.

I am making Blueberry Streusel as I speak. The house smells yummy. My husband goes to work today at 3pm, so I always try to have a decent/nice breakfast for him on the afternoons when he works. The cat is looking at me through the screen door and my pup is at my feet. It is a beautiful day outside. Not a cloud in the sky. It has been gloomy and rainy in the deep south over the past few weeks. So, the nice weather is respite.

Being from Louisiana, I love all things Louisiana. My husband, not so much, but this blog isn’t about him, is it?? I didn’t think so. When I found out that Helen Mirren (one of my favorites) has a home in New Orleans, I was thrilled! Here are some shots from the inside. They can be found in Architectural Digest.

Light, Bright and Airy. It doesn’t look like an extremely wealthy couple lives here. They are very modest with their decor, and I like that!

Not sure if that is a pillow on the bed or not. It may be another Mardi Gras mask.

Cozy Spot to read and sip coffee in the morning. Love the Mardi Gras mask on the wall.

Whoops! I haven’t blogged in a while. It is my goal to try and blog every day, so I don’t let my readers down. So, if I have let you down, please forgive me! Let me make it up to you. I have decided to show you some stuff from Etsy today as well as some other stuff I have found.

On a side note, my husband and I went to the Total Money Makeover LIVE by Dave Ramsey yesterday, and we were totally inspired by him. He is so entertaining. If you get the chance, you should TOTALLY go see him Live and in person. He is a riot and a half. We were amazed at how it seemed like he was talking just to us. Everything he said, we could totally relate to. He teaches a system of how to get out of debt to young couples and how to retire as a millionaire at 70 (and I mean 17 million dollars). I have already known most of his principles, but it will be good to really take the bull by the horn and get cracking. I have even gotten ANOTHER part-time job just to pay off credit card debt. The fastest way to GET money is to WORK! Duh! The simplest things are often the hardest concepts to learn.
