HAE:TSX

Skin graft fixation for burn victims using fibrin sealant represents multi-million dollar market opportunity for Company

MONTREAL, Dec. 9 /CNW Telbec/ - Haemacure Corporation (TSX:HAE - News), a Montreal-based specialty bio-therapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization, disclosed today the positive results of a preclinical study conducted on the use of its proprietary lead product candidate, the human fibrin sealant Hemaseel(R)HMN, in skin graft fixation for burn victims.

"We are very excited with the results of this preclinical study, which suggest that Haemacure's fibrin sealant technology may provide a safe and effective alternative to staples and sutures and reduce discomfort of burn patients receiving skin grafts" said Joseph Galli, Chairman and CEO of Haemacure. "Skin graft fixation is the second new potential product indication based on the formulation of our lead hemostasis product candidate. This demonstrates again our commitment to leveraging our technology platform to meet major medical needs and position Haemacure as the only global, independent fibrin sealant-centric company", concluded Mr. Galli.

The results of this preclinical study strongly suggest that the use of Haemacure's fibrin sealant, with a reduced thrombin concentration, may provide advantages over staples and sutures, the current standard of care, when used to secure skin grafts to recipient wound sites. The use of staples or sutures in skin graft fixation for burn patients can often lead to post-operative complications such as wound infection, and create anxiety over pain during removal.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of tissue fixation, rather than hemostasis. As a result, the thrombin concentration of the fibrin sealant was reduced to provide additional time for the manipulation and positioning of the skin grafts. There were no alterations to any of the other components of the fibrin sealant.

The use of the fibrin sealant between the skin graft and the wound bed interface was shown to (1) provide adhesive qualities allowing fixation of the graft without the use of staples or sutures, (2) seal the tissue bed layer, thereby inhibiting seroma or hematoma formation without compromising the healing process, and (3) likely provide more even healing, resulting in a higher percentage of graft take with a more acceptable cosmetic outcome than using mechanical fixation.

Previous preclinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Haemacure's fibrin sealant hemostasis formulation in preventing the formation of post-surgical adhesions. The ability to utilize the fibrin sealant hemostasis formulation for the additional indications of adhesion prevention and skin graft fixation is anticipated to reduce manufacturing and clinical risks and to significantly shorten time-to market, by as much as three to five years. Haemacure plans on conducting additional studies to support and confirm these findings.

HAE:TSX

MONTREAL, Dec. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - Haemacure Corporation (TSX:HAE - News), a Montreal-based specialty bio-therapeutics company developing high-value, human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization, announces that is has confirmed the successful operation qualification of the fibrin sealant production equipment at its new state-of-the-art plasma fractionation facility in Sarasota, Florida.

"I am very excited that we have achieved the important milestone of operation qualification, thus showing clear progress in our transition from a development to a manufacturing company. This allows us to take steps towards the next milestone of producing clinical lots of our lead product candidate, human fibrin sealant, and advancing it to market", said Joseph Galli, Chairman and CEO of Haemacure. "Achieving this milestone also triggers the contractual obligation of CSL Behring AG to pay Haemacure US$1.5 million", concluded Mr. Galli.

The successful operation qualification of the production equipment is one of three milestones the achievement of which obligates CSL Behring AG ("CSL") to pay to Haemacure US$4.5 million in total, pursuant to a settlement agreement entered into in 2002 in relation to its Hemaseel project. The achievement of each milestone obligates CSL to pay Haemacure US$1.5 million. As previously announced, CSL has advised Haemacure that, in its view, it is no longer obligated to make the milestone payments. Haemacure strongly disputes the position of CSL and has, as a result, filed a request for arbitration with the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce to assert its right to collect the contractual milestone payments and, in particular, the payment due upon the operation qualification of production equipment. Haemacure plans on achieving the second milestone during the first half of 2009 and the third milestone during the following 12 months.

Plasma processing at the facility continues as planned and the product and production process are meeting expectations. Haemacure plans on achieving its first patient-in-the-clinic objective in the first half of 2009 and anticipates commercial launch of its fibrin sealant on the U.S. market in the first half of 2011, in line with previously announced guidance.

MONTREAL, June 16 - Haemacure Corporation (TSX : HAE), a Montreal-based specialty bio-therapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization, announces that it has raised $7.8 million through the exercise of amended Series B warrants and broker warrants issued as part of the private placement concluded in January 2007.

"I sincerely thank our shareholders who demonstrated their strong support by exercising their warrants. We now have the financial resources to execute on all of the necessary milestones to get our fibrin sealant into the clinic in Q1-09. This financing significantly reduces the financial risk. All of our time and attention will be focused on execution and getting a green light from the FDA to enter clinical trials." said Joseph Galli, Chairman and CEO of Haemacure.

Manufacturing Facility

On June 4th, Haemacure began fractionating plasma in its new facility in Sarasota, Florida. It is on-schedule and on-budget to produce fibrin sealant clinical lots during Q3-08 and to file an amendment to its existing IND with the U.S. FDA during Q4-08.

Haemacure's fractionation facility is the first and only U.S.-based manufacturing facility for fibrin sealant destined for the U.S. market and this is of significant strategic value.

Fibrin Sealant Pivotal Clinical Trials

The safety of Haemacure's lead product candidate, all-human fibrin sealant, was demonstrated in past clinical trials as no serious adverse events related to the product were reported. The efficacy of the product was also significantly superior to the standard of care used in the control group.

New Preclinical Study in Adhesion Prevention

Encouraged by the positive results of the preclinical study Haemacure conducted on the efficacy of its all-human fibrin sealant in preventing the formation of post-surgical adhesions, Haemacure will sponsor a second study for the same application, in a slightly different model.

Market Opportunities

Haemacure is currently pursuing business development opportunities in six market segments where fibrin sealant has application, beyond its core haemostasis segment. These are wound management, adhesion prevention, regenerative medicine, drug delivery, in combination with biomaterials, and cosmetics. All these segments represent major growth opportunities that Haemacure will leverage.

Haemacure is pursuing strategic partnerships for the development of the proteins it has identified in one of its two plasma fractions: albumin, alpha-1 anti-trypsyn, immunoglobulin and plasminogen.

MONTREAL, June 4 - Haemacure Corporation (TSX: HAE), a Montreal-based specialty bio-therapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization, announces that it has started processing plasma in its new fractionation facility for the production of its proprietary all-human fibrin sealant for pivotal Phase II/Phase III clinical trials, leading to commercial launch.

Haemacure has reached an important milestone this week with the commencement of plasma fractionation in its new manufacturing facility. Haemacure also confirms that it is on schedule and on budget to produce clinical material during the third quarter of 2008 and file an amendment to its existing IND with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration during the fourth quarter of 2008, in order to begin clinical trials in the first quarter of 2009.

The new fractionation facility incorporates the Hynetics(R) single-use bio-processing plastic containers technology, which has resulted in significant savings in capital expenditures and will also result in significant savings in operating costs, as compared to a stainless steel facility. The use of this technology also minimizes the risks of cross-contamination between production batches.

"Now that our fractionation facility is operational and that we have started processing plasma, Haemacure is truly engaged in its transformation from a development to a manufacturing company." said Joseph Galli, Chairman and CEO of Haemacure. "The upcoming availability of clinical material will enable Haemacure to pursue its clinical plans in hemostasis and to expand into additional indications, such as adhesion prevention." concluded Mr. Galli.

About Haemacure

Haemacure Corporation is a specialty biotherapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization. Haemacure's research and development effort is driven by its proprietary plasma protein extraction technology to develop next-generation products, including surgical hemostats. Haemacure's lead product candidate, Hemaseel(R)HMN, is a fibrin sealant to enter pivotal Phase II/Phase III clinical trials during the first quarter of 2009. Haemacure's second product candidate is thrombin, a component of fibrin sealant, now in preclinical stage. Follow-on development will focus on surgical hemostats, wound healing, adhesion prevention, regenerative medecine, drug delivery and combination with biomaterials. Haemacure has identified eleven additional specialty proteins and enzymes in one if its two plasma fractions and seeks to advance these proteins and enzymes through partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Haemacure operates offices in Sarasota, Florida through a wholly-owned subsidiary. The Corporation is traded under stock symbol HAE on the TSX.

Forward-looking Statements

Certain of the statements contained in this news release are forward-looking statements. Such statements, based as they are on the current expectations of management, inherently involve numerous risks and uncertainties, known and unknown. Some examples of known risks are: the impact of general economic conditions, general conditions in the biotech industry, changes in the regulatory environment in the jurisdictions in which Haemacure does business, stock market volatility, fluctuations in costs, and changes to the competitive environment due to consolidation or otherwise. Consequently, actual future results may differ materially from the anticipated results expressed in the forward-looking statements. Haemacure disclaims any intention or obligation to update these statements.

Contacts

Haemacure Corporation:

Joseph Galli
Chairman and CEO
(514) 990-7074
jgalli@haemacure.ca

  Diane Roch
Director Communications and Investor Relations
(514) 282-3350 ext. 27
Cel.: (514) 952-3350
droch@haemacure.ca

   www.haemacure.com

Blood: An Undreamt-Of Market

Blood plasma. The lure of therapeutic proteins has caused the price of this blood derivative to climb.

By Carole Le Hirez > carole.lehirez@transcontinental.ca

Joseph Galli, of Haemacure: “With human plasma, we eliminate certain
problems that bovine products present. It’s purer and safer.”

In the future, the lives of millions of people all over the world will be saved thanks to protein-based medicines. These molecules, which directly target the cause of disease in the organism, open the door to a revolutionary approach in medicine, comparable to the one Pasteur introduced with his rabies vaccine. Yet numerous challenges confront this promising industry: research funding, the availability
of the blood plasma from which the raw material is drawn, and the high price of treatments which are slowing expected progress.

Human plasma contains a number of proteins that are used to manufacture roughly 20 therapeutic products.

According to a 2005 study conducted for Héma-Québec, plants fractionating plasma proteins treat over 25 million litres of plasma every year worldwide. Sales in the plasma-derived protein market were nearly $5 billion in 2005.

Fractionation plants
Among the most valuable proteins extracted from plasma are albumin, which represents 28% of this market, and gamma globulins, which represent two thirds of plasma product sales.

Haemacure of Montreal extracts fibrinogen and thrombin from human plasma, the two proteins used in manufacturing its fibrin glue, which prevents post-operative adhesion. Fibrin glue and thrombin are its two flagship products.

“With human plasma, we eliminate certain problems that bovine products present. It’s purer and safer,” said Joseph Galli, Haemacure’s Chief Executive Officer.

Like many others, the company looks to the United States for its supplies. There are approximately 70 fractionating plants in the world. The U.S. has the largest number, with an average processing capacity of 1.1 million litres per plant, according to the Marketing Research Bureau. Europe comes second, and
Asia rounds out the leading three. Approximately 60 grams of protein can be extracted from a litre of plasma.

The growth in demand for biopharmaceutical proteins is putting pressure on plasma of human origin, whose availability is limited because of increasingly stringent selection criteria for donors, and tightened requirements on collection and screening methods.

“Over the past few years, the price of a litre of plasma went from $125 to $200. The market should stabilize over the next two years, because there has been consolidation in the industry. In 2010, available volume should rise,” predicted Galli.

High costs
It takes approximately 18 months for a blood sampling site to be certified by the Food and Drug Administration, and another 18 months for it to accumulate operating reserves.

The budget dedicated to plasma-derived products in Canada is approximately $274 million per year and growing. Though the country is self-sufficient in terms of plasma for transfusion purposes, it collects only a third of the plasma it needs for fractionation.

At Héma-Québec, surplus plasma not used for medical purposes is sent to an American fractionator, which returns the isolated proteins. The organization thus covers 20 percent of its total needs in immunoglobulins and 75 percent of its needs in albumin, proteins that are particularly used in research.

There is only one fractionating plant in Canada, in Winnipeg. This hyperspecialized company is dedicated to a single molecule, anti-D immunoglobulin, used to avoid certain types of miscarriages.

“Building a fractionating plant is very expensive, from one to two billion,” said Jean Lapierre, Director, Stable Products, at Héma-Québec. “But we’re seeing a consolidation of the sector. A smaller number of players are producing ever-increasing volumes. This is going to be reflected in prices.”

Blood plasma
A component of blood, plasma serves to transport blood cells and hormones throughout the body. It is 90 percent water. It contains mineral salts and organic compounds (nutrients, urea, etc.) and proteins, such as fibrinogen (a coagulation protein), globulins and albumin.

Haemacure financing receives shareholder consent - Series B Warrants are amended

HAE:TSX

MONTREAL, May 14 - Haemacure Corporation (TSX: HAE) announces that it has obtained the consent required from its shareholders to commence implementing a financing strategy designed to get back into the clinic for the pivotal Phase II/Phase III clinical trials for its next generation, all-human fibrin sealant during Q1-2009. The strategy involves the amendment of the terms and conditions of 62.5 million outstanding Series B common share purchase warrants issued by Haemacure by way of private placement in January 2007.

"I am very pleased with the level of support that our shareholders have demonstrated by approving this amendment to the Series B Warrants, thus enabling Haemacure to finance operations with the least dilution possible", said Mr. Joseph Galli, Chairman & CEO of Haemacure. "Participants in our January 2007 private placement indicated their willingness to further finance the Company based on Haemacure achieving certain value creation milestones. Haemacure is on-time and on budget to meeting the three milestones necessary to getting back into the clinic for its next generation fibrin sealant by Q1-2009. These milestones are the commissioning of the manufacturing facility (IQ/OQ) by mid '08, the production of clinical material by Fall '08, and the approval of an amendment to the IND currently open with the FDA (end '08)", continued Mr. Galli. "Concurrent with our getting back into the clinic with our fibrin sealant, we are working on strategic partnership opportunities that will enable Haemacure to rapidly become a significant player on a global scale" concluded Mr. Galli.

Each of the Series B Warrants currently entitles the holder to acquire one additional common share of Haemacure at a price of $0.20 for a period of five years from the date of issuance. As a result of the amendment, if Series B Warrants are exercised during a period of ten business days commencing on May 29, 2008 and ending on June 12, 2008, Haemacure will issue to the holder, with each Haemacure common share purchased upon the exercise of Series B Warrants, one additional common share purchase warrant. Each additional warrant will entitle the holder to acquire one additional common share of Haemacure at a price of $0.25 until April 18, 2013.

If Series B Warrants are not exercised during the ten business-day period, the holder will not be entitled to receive the additional warrants upon the subsequent exercise of Series B Warrants. Holders of Series B Warrants who do not exercise them during the ten business-day period will retain the right to exercise the Series B Warrants in accordance with their original terms and conditions.

If all of the Series B Warrants are exercised during the ten business-day period, and all of the additional warrants are also exercised, Haemacure will issue a total of 62,500,000 common shares upon the exercise of the additional warrants, representing additional dilution of 38.2% when compared to the 163,800,917 common shares of Haemacure currently issued and outstanding.

The effective date of the amendment will be on the tenth business day after the issuance of this press release. The amendment to the terms and conditions of the Series B Warrants has been approved by the Toronto Stock Exchange, which required that the amendment be approved by Haemacure's shareholders, other than "insiders" of Haemacure who hold Series B Warrants. Haemacure relied on an exemption, set out in section 604(d) of the TSX Company Manual, from the requirement to call a shareholders' meeting to consider the amendment. Pursuant to the exemption, Haemacure provided written evidence to the TSX that holders of more than 50% of Haemacure's common shares (other than "insiders" of Haemacure who hold Series B Warrants) are familiar with the terms of the amendment and in favor of it. A total of nine "insiders" of Haemacure hold Series B Warrants. The Schedule annexed to this press release sets out: (a) the names and positions of the "insiders" who hold Series B Warrants; and (b) assuming such "insiders" exercise all Series B Warrants and additional warrants held by them, the number and percentage of common shares of Haemacure that each will own.

Haemacure's second product candidate is thrombin, a component of its fibrin sealant, now in preclinical stage. Follow-on development will focus on surgical hemostats, wound healing, adhesion prevention, regenerative medicine, drug delivery and combinations with biomaterials. Haemacure has discovered eleven additional specialty proteins and enzymes in one of its two plasma fractions and seeks to advance these proteins and enzymes through partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

[Press Release] NEWS - Haemacure Discloses Positive Results of a preclinical study of its fibrin sealant

Haemacure Discloses Positive Results of a preclinical study of its fibrin sealant in adhesion prevention and opens a new opportunity in a market with a significant unmet medical need

MONTREAL, April 10 - Haemacure Corporation (TSX: HAE.TO), a Montreal-based specialty bio-therapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization, disclosed today the results of a preclinical study it recently conducted on the use of its proprietary lead product candidate, the human fibrin sealant Hemaseel(R)HMN, in preventing the formation of post-surgical adhesions.

The study was conducted on 16 rabbits that underwent open gynaecologic surgery in a uterine horn model. In preclinical testing, Hameacure's fibrin sealant was found to be significantly superior to the control group in preventing the formation of post-surgical tissue adhesion. It was also found to be superior to historical data disclosed in published literature for GYNECARE INTERCEED(TM)(TC7) Absorbable Adhesion Barrier, marketed by Ethicon, Inc.

These preclinical results are strategically significant as Haemacure's current fibrin sealant haemostasis formulation was used in this study. Initial analysis indicates that no change in the formulation or the manufacturing of Haemacure's fibrin sealant will be required to pursue an adhesion prevention indication. The safety and manufacturing information applicable to an IND to conduct adhesion prevention trials using Haemacure's fibrin sealant is identical to the information that will be included in the IND amendment to be filed later this year for the haemostasis indication. It is likely that adhesion prevention-specific preclinical data, clinical protocols and programs will also be required.

The use of Haemacure's current fibrin sealant haemostasis formulation for adhesion prevention could significantly accelerate time to market for this indication, by three to five years. This reduced timeframe accelerates Haemacure's ability to address a significant unmet medical need with an additional indication for its fibrin sealant. Post-surgical adhesions are estimated to cost the U.S. healthcare system in excess of $2.1 billion annually. The U.S. market for adhesion prevention products is estimated today at $100 million and could grow to US$150-200 milion in fibrin sales.

Post-surgical tissue adhesion is a significant clinical problem within every surgical specialty. It is a disorder in which tissues that should remain separated in the body adhere to each other. Adhesions are a major cause of infertility, bowel perforation, small bowel obstruction, chronic abdominal and pelvic pain, and have been associated with patient mortality.

Liquid fibrin sealants, such as Haemacure's, are much easier to apply to treatment sites than adhesion barriers such as Interceed(TM). They also lend themselves to laparoscopic application much better than these types of barriers.

"We are very excited with the results of this study, as it opens a new market with a significant unmet medical need and allows Haemacure to leverage to leverage its technology, past clinical data and experience in a timely manner" said Joseph Galli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Haemacure. "This initiative demonstrates our commitment to leverage our assets, people and technology to create shareholder value and reduce risk." concluded Mr. Galli.

About Haemacure

Haemacure Corporation is a specialty biotherapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization. Haemacure's research and development effort is driven by its proprietary plasma protein extraction technology to develop next-generation products, including surgical hemostats.
MONTREAL, April 9 - Haemacure Corporation (TSX: HAE.TO), a Montreal-based specialty bio-therapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization, reports on its Annual General and Special Meeting of Shareholders held this afternoon.

Results of Preclinical Study of Fibrin Sealant in Adhesion Prevention

Haemacure presented the positive results of a preclinical study it recently conducted on the use of the current formulation of its proprietary lead product candidate, the human fibrin sealant Hemaseel(R)HMN. Haemacure's fibrin sealant proved superior to the untreated control subjects in open surgery in preventing the formation of post-surgical adhesions. It also proved to be superior to the data found in published literature for GYNECARE INTERCEED(TM) (TC7) Absorbable Adhesion Barrier, marketed by Ethicon, Inc. Haemacure plans on expanding the fields of use for its fibrin sealant by entering the adhesion prevention market, thanks to the leveraging of the current formulation of its fibrin sealant. Post-surgical adhesions are estimated to cost the U.S. healthcare system US$2.1 billion annually.

New Manufacturing Facility on Schedule and on Budget

Haemacure reported that the construction of its small scale manufacturing facility in Sarasota, Florida is progressing on schedule and on budget. The targeted completion date is mid-2008, as planned. The construction of a small-scale facility is the first phase of Haemacure's two-phase strategy to significantly reduce the cost of meeting its First-Patient-In objective during the first quarter of 2009. The second phase of the strategy consists in expanding the facility during the review of its license applications by regulatory authorities, and in completing the development of Haemacure's second product candidate, the Hemaseel(R)Thrombin active hemostatic agent. Haemacure's fibrin sealant for adhesion prevention will also be manufactured in this facility.

Strategic Hires

Haemacure announced the hiring of a Director of Manufacturing and a Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control. This brings to five the number of senior managers Haemacure has hired since the fall of 2007.

"We have made tremendous progress since we re-started Haemacure 14 months ago. We are on track to having a manufacturing facility online mid-2008 and having a first patient undergo surgery in our pivotal Phase II/Phase III clinical trials during the first quarter of 2009. We are also now able to attract high-calibre senior managers from the plasma fractionation industry." said Joseph Galli, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Haemacure. "We are confident we will deliver on the objectives we had set for ourselves when we refinanced Haemacure, including leveraging our assets in fields such as adhesion prevention. We look forward to making Haemacure a fully independent global haemostasis player.", concluded Mr. Galli.

Key Milestones

Haemacure also highlighted key milestones to be achieved in the next

three quarters:

    - Completion of the manufacturing facility by mid-2008

    - Production of fibrin sealant for pivotal Phase II/and Phase III

      clinical trials by Q3/08

    - Approval of amendment of IND by the US FDA to launch clinical trials

      for fibrin sealant

    - Launch of clinical trials in Q1/09

    - Entering into of partnerships and collaborations

Board of Directors

Haemacure announced that the shareholders elected the seven nominees for election as directors.

Shareholder Rights Plan

At the annual meeting of shareholders of the Corporation, the shareholders approved the renewal of the Shareholders Rights Plan. The Plan provides for the equal treatment of all shareholders of the Corporation.

The Rights are designed to provide additional protection against abusive takeover tactics such as partial tender offers, selective open-market purchases and offers for all the shares of the Corporation at less than full value or at an inappropriate time. The Rights are intended to assure that the Board of Directors has the ability to protect shareholders and the Corporation if attempts are made to gain control of the Corporation in a manner that is not in the best interests of the Corporation and all of its shareholders.

The approved continuation of the Corporation's Rights Plan means that all common shares of the Corporation issued or to be issued will be accompanied by one Right. The Rights will be exercisable only if a person or group acquires 20% or more of the Corporation's common shares or announces an offer not in accordance with certain requirements, the consummation of which would result in the ownership by a person or group of 20% or more of the common shares. Upon a person or group owning 20% or more of the Corporation's common shares, each shareholder will be entitled to purchase, for each common share of the Corporation he or she may have, and at the Right's exercise price, a number of common shares of the Corporation having a market value at the time of twice the Right's exercise price. The exercise price is set at $100 and may be adjusted, depending on certain circumstances. Unless continued, the Plan will expire on April 26, 2011.

Webcast Details

A replay of Haemacure's Annual General and Special Meeting of Shareholders is available on the Company's website at www.haemacure.com.

About Haemacure

Haemacure Corporation is a specialty biotherapeutics company developing high-value human plasma-derived protein products for commercialization.
