In this article we can learn about the TOOL those are used in agriculture purpose.

TOOL:

A tool is an object that can extend an individual's ability to modify features of the surrounding environment.

TYPES OF TOOL:

1. POWER TOOL

POWER:

Power is the amount of energy transferred or converted per unit time.

A power tool is a tool that is actuated by an additional power source and mechanism other than the solely manual labor used with hand tools.

The most common types of power tools use electric motors, Internal Combustion Engines and Compressed Air are also commonly used.

In that case the power tools power range start from 0.5 hp to onwards

Power Tool in Agriculture:

1. Below 8 HP:- brush cutter, chain saw, earth auger, knapsack sprayers (engine operated), power weeder, small inter cultivators, etc.

2. Above 8 HP:- power tiller, tractor, thresher, harvester, planter, etc

2. HAND TOOL

A hand tool is any tool that is powered by hand rather than a motor.

Categories of hand tools include wrenches, pliers, cutters, files, striking tool, struck or hammered tools, screwdrivers, vises, clamp, snips, saws, drills and knives.

Outdoor tools such as garden forks, pruning shears and rakes are additional forms of hand tools. Portable power tools are not hand tools.

cono weeder, kolapni yantra (manual weeder), sickle, scythe, hand pruner, spade, ax, shovel/mattock, etc.

3. GARDEN TOOL

A garden tool is any one of many tools made for gardening and overlaps with the range of tools made for agriculture and horticulture. Garden tools can be divided into hand tools and power tools.

Garden Tool in Agriculture:

lawn mower, hedge trimmer, sickle, scythe, shovel/mattock, etc.

4. CUTTING AND ABRASIVE TOOL

Cutting is the separation or opening of a physical object, into two or more portions, through the application of an acutely directed force.

An abrasive is a material, often a mineral, that is used to shape or finish a workpiece through rubbing which leads to part of the workpiece being worn away by friction. While finishing a material often means polishing it to gain a smooth, reflective surface, the process can also involve roughening as in satin, matte or beaded finishes. In short, the ceramics which are used to cut, grind and polish other softer materials are known as abrasives.

5. FORESTRY TOOL

Forestry is the science and craft of creating, managing, playing, using, conserving and repairing forests, woodlands, and associated resources for human and environmental benefits. Forestry is practiced in plantations and natural stands. The science of forestry has elements that belong to the biological, physical, social, political and managerial sciences.

6. MACHINE AND METAL WORKING TOOL

A machine tool is a machine for handling or machining metal or other rigid materials, usually by cutting, boring, grinding, shearing, or other forms of deformation.

Metalworking is the process of shaping and reshaping metals to create useful objects, parts, assemblies, and large scale structures.

METHODS OF DRIVE OF POWER WEEDER

Two methods of drive in power weeder such as Belt Drive & Gear Drive.

Belt Drive:

Generally, in petrol engine belt drive method is used which is upto 6 hp.
It is beneficial when the machine is stuck while operation, there is minimum chance of breakdowns as compare to gear drive machine.

TYPES OF POWER WEEDER

Generally there are three types of power weeder, they all are as follows:

  1)  Center rotary
  2)  Back rotary
  3)  Front rotary

1) Center rotary:

a) Center rotary means the drive wheel & blade rotary shaft is fix on a one shaft while working.
b) While transportation (either home to farm or farm to home) on road there is drive wheel insert in the drive axle shaft.
c) While field operation, the blade rotary (rotor) shaft fix to the drive axle shaft after removing the drive wheels.

d) While works in the field, the drive wheel should be remove and insert the blade rotor shaft in the drive axle shaft & fix with cotter pin.
e) The blade rotor shaft have 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 blades as per manufacturer recommendations and also depends on machine power.

2) Back rotary:

a) Back rotary power weeder means the power weeder have individual blade rotary shaft or unit (back side) and drive wheel shaft.
b) There is no need to remove drive wheel while field operation.
c) In wet land (puddling) operation, fix the cage wheel instead of drive wheel.

b) Specially used in sugarcane, ginger & turmeric field where tractor is not easily working.

3) Front rotary:

a) Front rotary power weeder means the power weeder have individual blade rotary shaft (front side) and drive wheel shaft.

b) There is no need to remove drive wheel while field operation.

c) In this type of power weeder the roatry blade shaft is front side and engine is back side.

BASIC INFORMATION OF POWER TILLER

Power Tiller (Tiller is refer as Tilling) is used for tilling the farm.
Power tiller is known as Single axle Two-Wheel Tractor.
Power Tiller helps in preparing the soil, sowing seeds, planting seeds, adding & spraying the fertilizers, herbicides & water. In addition to it also helps in pumping water, harvesting, threshing & transporting crops.
Generally the POWER TILLERs power ranges from 8 hp to 18 hp (6 kW to 14kW).

Ø Why the farmers buy the POWER TILLER?

i.) Today’s, mostly farmers have marginal farm land. They can’t afford the tractor. OR no one can easily give them tractor on rent for this farm operation & also the tractor owner will not afford it for this land.

ii.) Sometimes, in season labors are not easily available. If labors are available then their wages demand is high. This thing can’t afford the small marginal land farmer.

iii.) Power Tiller is affordable as compared to tractor & pair of bull.

iv.) Power Tiller operated implements also available which are same as tractor implements but only small in size such As M.B. Plough, Ridger, Furrow Opener, Seed Drill, Cultivator, Potato digger, Reaper Unit, Trailer, HTP, Water Pump, Alternator, Thresher, Cage Wheel, etc.

v.) Power tiller is specially designed for puddling (wet land) operation i.e., paddy cultivation.

Basically, it means that removing of the farm weeds by using the power. We can term as “power is the source from engine” & “weeds means the unwanted material in the farm”

In other words, Power Weeder used for removing weeds, stirring (mixing) and pulverizing (grinding) the soil and for loosening the soil after the crop begins to grow.

Note:- Generally the power weeder power ranges from 1 hp to 8 hp (0.7 kW to 6kW).
