Most small farmers in Tanzania focus primarily on self-sufficiency and use traditional agronomic practices. Market-oriented action, individual positioning or meaningful collaborations are often lacking. One reason is that there is often little access to information and a lack of skills.
MVIWATA-Arusha is the network of farmer groups in Arusha region and it works on exactly those issues. MVIWATA-Arusha unites farmers, improves access to information, provides training and defends the interests of the small-scale farmer in general.
Through an exciting cooperation with a German training institute called Andreas Hermes Akademie (AHA), this project will train 7 trainers in the BUS training methodology, who in turn will train 257 farmers. The AHA BUS trainings (Buerliche Unternehmer Schulungen Agribusiness Training) equips participants with the right knowledge, skills and attitude to make the transition to a more market-oriented approach.

The World Agricultural Watch (WAW) from the FAO is a Family Farming Knowledge Platform that try to contribute to a continuous monitoring of the changing diversity of agricultural holdings to allow more effective participation of disadvantaged stakeholders in influencing policy formulation and planning affecting their livelihood.
AgriCord has expressed its interest to collaborate with WAW to better integrate the Farmers Organizations (FOs) in the process of setting up and reinforcing a monitoring systems based on farms typology to better understand the diversity of farm systems and adopt targeted policies.
A budget of 168.000 Euro has been allocated by AgriCord to finance the participation of FOs to the WAW initiative, via agri-agencies.
The Funds will be managed by CSA and AFDI that will transfer the funds to the FOs and monitor the activities and give to the FOs complementary technical assistance when needed.
There is several stakes associated to this better integration of FOs:
-	Contribute to more inclusive policy making processes at national level, with a stronger support of FAO to the policy making processes that include FOs and civil society;
-	Strengthen the FOs capacities to engage in social dialogue with authorities, thanks to a better understanding of their members needs and a better argumentation through evidence-based and validated data;
-	Produce more relevant data and knowledge on family farms and a better understanding of their needs.

The collaboration will be implemented on four components
1.	Participation of FO in WAW activities and events
2.	Organization of regional seminars by the regional Farmers organization in South East Asia and in West Africa, in collaboration with WAW/FAO
3.	Technical support for the reinforcement of existing FOs monitoring system in Senegal and Burundi
4.	Contributions to the WAW methodological framework by case studies on the FO involvement and role in promoting WAW topics
EXPECTED RESULTS
-	The roles and contributions of farmers organizations in the decision-making process of rural policies are strengthened;
-	Farmers organizations are better included in FAO capacity development activities, notably to valorise the results of data collection processes among producers;
-	Multi-stakeholders data collection mechanisms monitoring farm diversity and rural transformations are promoted at regional level in West Africa and South East Asia;
-	Monitoring systems of agricultural holdings are based on a typology to reflect farm diversity enabling targeted policies and rural extension services in Senegal and Burundi
ACTIVITIES
The following activities will be organized under each on the four components:
This component aims to allowing national and regional FOs to participate to WAW events at international level, but also to facilitate their involvement to the WAW national programs
The following events, countries and FO will be targeted (no exhaustive list):
a.	WAW international events:
-	WAW inter-regional seminar in Rome in September 2017
o	Participation of FOs representatives of the following countries (Senegal, Niger, Madagascar, Vietnam, Mali, Burundi, Brazil and Philippines) and of two regional FOs.
-	Side event CFS/COAG
o	participation of 3 FOs representatives as speakers in those events
b.	WAW national dynamics:
-	Participation of FOs representatives to national events of the following countries where a WAW process is in place: Senegal, Niger, Madagascar, Vietnam.
The FOs will be identified by the AA in consultation with the WAW team.
2.	Organization of two regional workshops with regional Farmers organization
Two regional workshops will be organized in collaboration with WAW and the selected AA, one in Asia by AFA, the other in West Africa by ROPPA. The objective of those workshops is to explore the potential contribution of FOs monitoring farm system to the WAW methodology and processes.
AFA regional workshop
A regional workshop will be organized in Asia by AFA in collaboration with WAW/FAO, in order to strengthen the FO capacity to monitor farm diversity and to contribute to policy dialogue, advocacy and specific planning of activities.
South-south cooperation could be mobilized, in particular Africa-Asia-Brazil (FETRAF).
The workshop will be organized by AFA in collaboration with WAW/FAO and the following AA: Asiadhrra and CSA.
ROPPA regional workshop/roundtable
A regional workshop will be organized in West Africa by ROPPA in collaboration with WAW/FAO during the first semester of 2017.
The objective is to present the ROPPA observatory process (OEF), exchange with relevant stakeholders (FWA/WAW, CIRAD, development partners, local administrations and FOs) on generating knowledge about family farms in West Africa and create synergies, bases on existing expertise, for strengthening FO monitoring systems.
Discussion will include :
-	Presentation and exchange around first results of ROPPA observatory

	Proposer une stratgie dintgration harmonise des organisations faitires que sont la Fdration Nationale des Jeunes Ruraux (FENAJER) lAssociation des Organisations Paysannes Pastorales (AOPP), la Coordination Nationale des Organisations Paysannes (CNOP) dans la mise en uvre du projet sous la coordination de la CNOP ;
	Formuler, via le soutien des Agri-Agences, une feuille de route pour dfinir les modalits de lintervention harmonise des OP dans le cadre du PTBA 2016 ;
	Faire une proposition financire permettant dassurer limplication des OP dans la mise en uvre des activits du PTBA 2016. Les ressources financires seront mobilises par les AA et serviront de contribution des OP pour la mise en uvre des activits du PTBA 2016 du projet FIER
