MAHA 2010 — a triple record breaker

SERDANG: The Malaysia Agriculture Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) International Show 2010 has found its way into the Malaysian Book of Records for having the largest international participation in agro-based exhibition, the largest orchid display and the largest visitor numbers to an exhibition.

MAHA 2010 recorded a total of 2.66 million visitors during the 10-day show at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), which saw participation from 22 countries including Jordan, India, South Korea, Egypt, Syria, Japan, Yemen and Germany.

The 2,500 booths recorded RM23.58 million in sales transactions — more than double recorded at MAHA 2008 as well as 184,331 sales enquiries.

Before ended last night, the walk-in seminars were participated by some 7,575 participants.

At the closing ceremony, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said MAHA 2010 not only succeeded in terms of promoting local produce in the local and international market but also succeeded in promoting the 1Malaysia's Best concept to the world.

He said the event was not only limited to agricultural produce but also the latest technology as well as to promote Malaysia as a developing agro hub in the region.

"MAHA International 2010 is the biggest and most successful agro exhibition we have organised todate."

Among the VIPs visitors 2010 were South Korean ambassador Yong Joo Lee, Lesotho high commissioner Ntebe Kokome, the Farmers Association of Uzbek delegation and former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Noh also officiated the launch of the Komuniti Rakan Agro which aimed to improve on service provided by the ministry through the My SMS Komuniti Rakan Agro short messaging service system.

The public can obtain information on the ministry an agriculture by sending text messages to 15888 at a charge of RM0.35.

Know The Insects

Besides knowing how to plant and fertilize your plants or crops, you need to know what is insects that may cause your plant desease. Below are some explaination about most popular insects that you may do not know before this.

Stink Bugs

They don't call them that for nothing! Various species of this pest are found throughout the United States; they are more common in the South. Stinkbugs are shield-shaped, and may be green, brown, or bluish-gray. They give off an unpleasant odor when crushed. Stinkbugs feed on okra, squash, beans, tomatoes, and a number of other plants by sucking out the plant's juices. New shoots may wilt; fruits are distorted with hard, dimpled areas where mouth parts are inserted into them. Adults overwinter in garden debris and in nearby weedy areas. There are several generations per year.

Control this insect pest by :

Spray or dust with approved insecticides, such as neem oil. Keep weeds down around the graden. Clean up the garden at the end of the season. Hand-pick early in the morning when bugs are slow to escape.

Aphids

Aphids are small, soft-bodied insects may be pale green, pink, black, or yellow, depending on the species. Some stages of the life cycle are winged, others wingless. Aphids feed on a wide variety of plants, including most edible and ornamental plants. Clustering on tips of new growth and leaf undersides, they feed by sucking out plant juices, causing leaves to become distorted and yellow. Aphids secrete a sugary fluid called honeydew that attracts ants and may cause the growth of a sooty black fungus on leaves. In small numbers aphids do little damage, but they reproduce rapidly. Control while the population is still small.

Control this insect pest by :

Aphids are easy to control. Simply washing plants with a strong spray of water will reduce their numbers dramatically. Insecticidal soap is more effective. When spraying, be sure to cover leaf undersides. Attract and release beneficial insects, such as ladybugs and lacewings.

Ini adalah kutipan hasil cili kulai varieti 568 untuk hari ini. Sempat di ambil gambar sebelum di hantar ke pasar borong Kota Tinggi dan Johor Bahru. Harga untuk cili merah adalam RM5.00 sekilo. Sejak seminggu, selepas setiap hari hujan di sebelah petang, sekarang musim panas kembali menjelma. Pokok agak kepanasan dan beberapa pokok yang kurang mendapat air di sebabkan paip titis yang tersumbat kering dan layu menyembah bumi. Di harapkan akan turun hujan dalam beberapa hari ini untuk menyejukkan suha persekitaran untuk perkembangan yang sihat pokok lada.
