It’s no secret we are enormous Star Wars fans in my home. My son can be found running around the house dressed up like Darth Vader and reacting the lightsaber battles with his Star Wars geek dad. Breathtaking Animation!

Lady and the Tramp, an animated film produced by Walt Disney, was originally introduced to theaters on June 22, 1955. I’m able to recall enjoying this timeless classic while I was a child more than 35 years ago with my mom and dad. Told from the dog’s perspective, the heart warming tale of a pampered Cocker Spaniel who’s adored by her owners and falls deeply in love with a mongrel from the wrong side of the tracks named Tramp, is among one of my personal favorite Disney movies of all time.

It’s difficult to pick out just one favorite moment in the film, however, if I had to it would be the scene with the mischievous, slinky Siamese cats as they taunt Lady and sing. On the other hand, the popular romantic clip of Tramp and Lady sharing a spaghetti dinner is unforgettable as well.

Once the cold temperatures begins to nip at your nose and the snow starts biting on your toes, it is time to curl up with your snuggie in front of the fireplace with a comforting winter cocktail. Nothing can warm you from the inside out faster than a cozy Hot Buttered Rum cocktail or a Hot Toddy!

In celebration of the winter season, Robb Report presents the Discover Your Winter Cocktail App. in which you are able to take a quick quiz to find out your winter cocktail, become familiar with a handful of little known cocktail facts, and obtain free tasty recipes for four classic cocktails with a winter twist.

I took the quiz and my suggested winter cocktail is “Homemade Irish Cream.” here is the recipe..

Homemade Irish Cream
1 1/4 cups Irish whiskey
1 tablespoon espresso powder
14 ounces (1can) condensed sweetened milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon unsweetened coca powder
1 tablespoon real vanilla extract
1 teaspoon real almond extract
2 tablespoons honey

Blend all ingredients together in a blender. Transfer mixture into a glass jar or bottle and seal. Refrigerate for 2 hours. Shake before serving.

Try these recipes below to get the heat flowing and to take the chill out!

Hot Buttered Rum
2 ounces dark rum
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Put the sugar and butter in a mug. Dissolve in about 2 ounces of boiling water, then add the rum. Garnish with grated nutmeg or a cinnamon stick.

Esquire Hot Toddy
2 – 2 ½ oz. Scotch
Lemon rind
Sugar cube
Cinnamon stick, broken in half
Cloves
Lemon slice
Boiling water

Heat a mug or toddy glass by filling with boiling water. Rub the sugar cube gently with the lemon rind, then empty the mug and place the lemoned cube in the bottom of it. Add booze and muddle the sugar. Toss in cinnamon. Top with boiling water to taste. Garnish with a lemon slice studded with cloves.

7 Reasons Bloggers Get No Respect From The Media!

Have any of you seen the films Larry Crowne and Contagion? For those who have than you already know precisely where I’m heading with this post. Those two movies literally made me cringe and uncomfortable.

In Contagion, Alan Krumwiede (Jude Law) represents a skeevy freelance writer who goes against the pharmaceutical companies and government agencies by dosing himself with ““Forsythia,” a fictitious all-natural remedy . Alan vlogs his swift recovery from the fatal virus which lures in millions of supporters and makes him four and a half million dollars. Krumwiede is accused of being a liar by the authorities and never having the virus once the lab discovers there was no anti-bodies present in his blood. The movie keeps you speculating if the government was just covering up the real truth or if perhaps Alan was merely a low-life unethical person who got rich by falsifying a cure. In either case, Contagion doesn’t shed favorable light upon bloggers.

Bryan Cranston plays as Dean Tainot in Larry Crowne, a washed-up self-published author and deadbeat professional blogger who surfs the online world all day looking for large breasted women while his wife Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts) works as a community college professor. Dean attempts to defend himself not having an actual job to Mercedes by stating “I had three postings today alone. FogCaster, SkyScan, and ParsecTwelve.com.” Mercedes snaps back with a response of “Those weren’t postings. They were comments.” His complete defense to being a lazy porn surfing jerk was he was a guy just being a guy. I wonder how many people actually believe bloggers are like Dean—-lazy wannabe authors who have nothing better to do, but surf the internet and goofing around when their partners are out in the real world working their butts off?

Your argument could possibly be those are merely movies and the majority of knowledgeable people today fully grasp that bloggers aren’t anything at all like Alan Krumwiede and Dean Tainot. I hope you are correct. Nonetheless, it doesn’t help when the president springs on the anti-blogger bandwagon and questions blogger ethics when dealing with if the newspapers seriously needed bailing out back in 2009. Obama said and I quote “I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,”

How did this happen? Exactly why do bloggers get this type of contempt within the media world? I suppose it’s kinda the way the lawyers acquired such an undesirable reputation. Should you question most people what their thoughts are of attorneys you’re going to get the answer that they’re bottom feeding scum suckers who feed off and reap the benefits of human misery. They were given this standing from the poor examples within their carrier field getting to the top by performing unethical actions. It doesn’t necessarily mean all legal professionals are this way, however the trustworthy ones get grouped along with the shady individuals and have to establish themselves to be honest. Poo is better left for the Dr. Oz Show. He can make nearly anything appear and sound good!

Buried Alive!

My apologies on being so late on posting today, but our city was buried alive beneath a blanket of three feet of SNOW! I couldn’t even get out my entrance to let my poor Lab outdoors! Here’s what this morning looked liked.

This is my back deck. The tracks within the snow were created by my puppy attempting to find his way off of the porch to try and do his business. After I ventured outside of my home to locate him, I came to the realization precisely how bad we’d been dumped on once I spotted …

a massive heap of snow where my car was previously! That huge mound you see in the photo above is actually my vehicle covered in the white stuff! Holey cow… I spent about three hours tidying up the mess mother nature chose to dump upon us!

The white flecks you see in the photo is snow on my camera lens from me tripping and falling in the snow. Once I was able to pull myself out of the cold poo, I took the two snapshots above and a moment to take in the true peacefulness plus beauty of my surroundings. Then I snapped back into reality and started shoveling!

Chocolate-White Chocolate Cookies

Prep time: 15 minutes

When it comes to cookies, you simply can’t go wrong. Cookies are like bite-size happiness for those who choose to delight in their goodness. While some people prefer chocolate, others like white chocolate. So why not do both? These cookies blend chocolate pudding with white baking chocolate—a yummy combo! Easy dessert recipes like this one will fool your guests into thinking you put a lot of time and effort into baking them. Shhh…

Servings: 18

Ingredients

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 pkg. (3.9 oz.) chocolate instant pudding

2 eggs

1 tsp. baking soda

2 cups flour

1 pkg. (6 squares) white baking chocolate, chopped

Directions

Heat oven to 350°F.

Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Add dry pudding mix; beat until well blended. Add eggs and baking soda; mix well. Gradually beat in flour until well blended. Stir in chocolate.

Drop tablespoons of dough, 2 inches apart, onto baking sheets.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 1 minute on baking sheets; remove to wire racks. Cool completely.

Turtle Sweet Treats

Prep time: 15 minutes

What do you get when you pair chocolate, caramel and pecans with cocoa-sweetened rice cereal and marshmallows? These mouthwatering confections! This is one of those easy dessert recipes that is not only a cinch to make, but the bars are great for sharing as well. Whether you’re making them for a big celebration or a small gathering, Turtle Sweet Treats will surely be a hit.

Servings: 12

Ingredients

3 Tbsp. butter or margarine

1 square unsweetened baking chocolate

1 pkg. (10 oz.) jumbo marshmallows

6 cups cocoa sweetened rice cereal

1-1/2 cups caramel cubes, divided

1 Tbsp. water

1/2 cup chopped pecans, toasted

Directions

Microwave butter and chocolate square in large microwaveable bowl on high 45 seconds or until melted. Add marshmallows; toss to coat. Microwave 1-1/2 minutes or until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring after 45 seconds.

Add cereal and 1 cup caramel cubes; mix well. Press onto bottom of 13×9-inch pan sprayed with cooking spray.

Microwave water and remaining caramel cubes in small microwaveable bowl 45 seconds; stir until cubes are completely melted. Drizzle over cereal mixture. Sprinkle with nuts; press lightly into cereal mixture to secure. Cool completely before cutting into squares.

Cappuccino Cheesecake

Prep time: 10 minutes

What’s sinful, smooth and completely irresistible? This cheesecake recipe, of course! Turn your guests’ attention to the most anticipated part of the party: the desserts. Easy dessert recipes make planning a get-together simple and even fun. Rather than slaving in the kitchen, you can use that time to relax and unwind before the party commences. Ingredients

2 pkg. (8 oz. each) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla

2 eggs

1 Tbsp. milk

2 Tbsp. instant coffee

1 Oreo Pie Crust (6 oz.)

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add eggs; mix just until blended.

Microwave milk in small microwaveable bowl on high 15 seconds. Add instant coffee; stir until dissolved. Add to batter; mix well. Pour into crust.

Bake 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Cool. Refrigerate several hours or overnight. Store leftover cheesecake in refrigerator.

Super Speedy Tiramisu

Prep time: 2 minutes

Stir 1 tsp. flavored instant coffee into each pudding snack cup.

Strawberry Cream Cheese Freeze

Prep time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

12 chocolate chip cookies

1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup sugar

1 can (12 oz.) frozen berry juice concentrate, thawed

1 cup crushed strawberries

1 tub (8 oz.) whipped topping, thawed

2 cups whole strawberries, cut in half

Directions

Arrange cookies in single layer on bottom of 9-inch springform pan.

Beat cream cheese and sugar in large bowl with mixer until well blended. Gradually beat in juice concentrate. Stir in crushed berries. Whisk in whipped topping until well blended. Pour over cookies in pan.

Freeze 6 hours or until firm. Remove from freezer 15 minutes before serving; let stand at room temperature to soften slightly. Top with berry halves.

Piece-of-Cake P’Nut Butter Cookies

Prep time: 15 minutes

Peanut butter cookies often evoke feelings of comfort, and the delightful aroma they emit creates a cozy environment. Give your guests the marvelous option of peanut butter cookies, and prepare for them to disappear in no time. Comfort food rarely stays on any dessert table for longer than a few minutes.

1 egg

1 cup creamy peanut butter

1 cup sugar

Weight Watchers Crock Pot Ham and Wild Rice Soup Recipe!

This is another great Weight Watchers Crock Pot favorite recipe in my home! If you are looking for a hearty soup that sticks to your ribs and warms you up on a cold winters day, try the Ham and Wild Rice Soup! I know you can’t tell from the picture above, but the soup is filled with wild rice! It absolutely delicious!

Ham and Wild Rice Soup

2 cups diced cooked ham

3/4 cup uncooked wild rice

1 medium onion , chopped (1/2 cup)

1 (16 oz) bag frozen mixed vegetables , thawed, drained

13/4 cup chicken broth

1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed low sodium cream of celery soup

1/4 teaspoon pepper

3 cups water

1/2 cup fat-free half-and-half

Directions:

In 3- to 4-quart slow cooker, mix all ingredients except half-and-half.

Cover and cook on Low heat for 8 to 9 hours.

Stir in half-and-half. Increase heat setting to High.

Cover and cook 10 to 15 minutes more or until hot.

Garnish with low fat shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Provides 8 servings

Also, try different types of whole grain. Use brown rice instead of white rice as a side dish at dinner or popcorn, which is a whole grain, for a snack.

Don’t Judge a Food by Its Cover. The front of food packages provide good nutritional cues, but don’t forget to read the ingredients and check the nutrition label and side labels for additional health information. Cereals with the white check even include the amount of whole grain per serving on packaging.
