Last weekend, I pulled a prank with one of my supervisors.

Let’s call him Travis.

It was a hot and sunny afternoon, and there were plenty of car parks around during weekend.

Finding car park is not any problem.

There’s this one special spot in this area – it’s the only spot where you get shades.

Unfortunately, this spot is not a car park.

… and this fella, parked in this exact spot.

Travis, having a playful and funny characteristic, purposely “stick” his car’s bumper to another friend’s car (the green Proton Wira in photo).

Let’s just say, he parked his car 2mm away from hitting the other car. Damn skillful, I must admit.

So, as a responsible adult, I guess I need to give him a lesson. (deep within me, I wanted to pull this prank on him)

So I wrote this warning letter, with a very broken Malay.

It goes like this,

Tuan,

Walaupun hari ini adalah holiday, sebagai pemandu KK yang direstui, anda tidaklah patut letak kereta tuan di sini, ini adalah satu tingkah laku yang tidak patut dilakukan.

Tuan boleh letak kereta tuan yang berpatutan. Contohnya, banyak lagi ‘car park’ di sekeliling.

Ini adalah amaran pertama, dari pihak berkuasa.

Then, I walked away… and wait for the fish to bite the bait.

2 hours later.

Travis’s car was parked properly. Mission complete.

I wonder how will he react after reading this blog post. Just hope he doesn’t know I am blogging about him… heh

I’ve been visiting this country so many times in past 2 years.

The Woman is working there. (which is known, as my girlfriend)

I thought I’ve exhausted all the travels methods between Kota Kinabalu and Brunei.

I tried flight – boat – car.

But haven’t try boat from Brunei..

Why Brunei to Brunei?

If you don’t know, Brunei is separated into 2 “island”, in between them, is Limbang, part of Sarawak.

Lucky for us, in order to cross this piece of land, we have land and sea access.

Well, “river” access to be exact.

This is a very good experience for me, despite me having experience of taking boat to university everyday.

The Woman keep asking, “omg the boat so small, will it terbalik if hit huge wave?”

The journey takes around 45-50 minutes.

It was not as bumpy as I thought.

The whole process was actually quite pleasurable.

Nice experience. Must try if you’re going Brunei.

But, make sure you assign a driver to pick you up at Temburong

I like love to hang out in Irish pubs.

Compare to night clubs, I prefer pubs.

Why? Ambiance is one of the biggest factor, second to draught beers. #beerFTW

I don’t know how many times I’ve mentioned this in my past posts, pubs made communication possible. It’s way easier to meet new friends too.

Lisa and Wilson.

Wilson is my long time best buddy, works in Singapore/KL, who is really into music. Wilson’s guitar performance appeared in local television tu! And he has his own fans club.

Also, he is famous for always placing in 2nd place in ping pong tournaments through out high school years. Hahahahaha.

Be careful of Lisa, her amazing fingers can tore apart skin and flesh in few seconds. She definitely can crown King of Cubit, if there’s such competition available.

Another one that is sama-taraf as me, is far far away, doing her secret training at UK. #hintshasha

I was celebrating my birthday eve here ( did not celebrate to celebrate, was just coincidently looking for a place to relax)

These 3 Danish fella come up and gave me a spoonful of birthday cake. What the… how did they know it’s my birthday?!

Then I only know, they are doing their trip of their lifetime, around Asia. They are heading to more places after KK.

“What brings you to KK?” I asked.

“Don’t know”. They replied.

Our attention were all on these guys – and told them about our cultures, food and etc.

Let’s take photo, then this guy (forgot name – uhm, more like impossible to remember, like Benedikt, Rasmus or.. whatever)

“Hey, you want to try some local food?” I suggested.

3 minutes later, we’re at Foh Sang.

We taught them to order in Malay.

“Saya mahu ha-mian!” (虾面)

“Kamu sangat cantik”, but then he said to a male customer, which almost started a small fight. LOL.

I also told them, “why the fuck are you drinking Cola in my country?! You have to try kit-chai peng or iced-lemon tea!”

A taste of local food – prawn noodles.

“DAMN THIS THING IS SPICY”

….. za dao. This noodle is not even categorised as spicy food.

We exchanged a few language sessions and I believe we are the loudest table there..

And the waitress are all surrounding us. Maybe they are interested in seeing these gwai lou =_=

It was a fun night.

The second day, Lisa told me, “eh, I dreamed about having supper with guai lou yesterday. so funny”

“Wait, we really….? “

I’ve graduated from high school 9 years ago..

10 more years, little Bing will be running around, flirting to neighbour daughters.

This post is to look at my personal milestone, what I have achieved past 12 months. And what can I work/further improve on.

1. Opened ZenQ Desserts

Opening ZenQ has taken 5 full months. It’s on-track right now and I am opened for new projects.

2. Having my own Lion Dance ‘Head’

When you see Kolombong Lion Dance group, one of the lion head is mine ^^; got my chinese name tuhh..

3. Becoming VIP in local charity event

Escorted by police when arrived. Great experience, but very paiseh cause whole kampung is looking ^^;

4. Getting involved in dad’s projects

One of the project from my dad, vroom vroom.

5. Launched my own offline web marketing company, Bingo Web Solution

Managed to closed a few sales, but official website is not done yet hahhahah #fail

6. Invest in new relationships and getting to know people

Making an effort to connect with interesting people from different backgrounds.

7. Organised a 400-people event for Grandmum’s 70th birthday

Now I can also be a wedding planner. Muahahha.

8. Fell into river

OK this is not exactly a milstone.

9. Employed more than 10 virtual assistants, but end up letting them go in the same year

Didn’t have the time to monitor their work – and getting complaints from clients =\

This year I am building a brand new team, from ground up. Putting more effort on the groundwork. #entrepreneurship

10. Read more than 20 books on self-help and entrepreneurship

Damn, that’s a lot of money spent on books ^^; Many books can be illegally downloaded online, but holding a real paper book is still my favourite.

11. Completed 50 push-ups in one attempt

I cannot hold chopsticks after the 50 push ups, but I no longer do this. I’ve advance to another level…

12. Know the difference of working “in”, and “on” the business

I become ZEN when I take shower – idea flows so I need to write it down immediately.

Luckily discipline master is not around when we planked.

Made possible by a team of virtual assistants. However there’s no system, hence the quality of the work is not up to par. Mission failed. This year only focus on important ones.

22. Learn to utilise Evernote, Google Reader and Google Calendar

3 of the most important tools in my arsenal.

23. Make money with 4 years old laptop

You don’t need a high-end laptop to launch a browser, do you? Making side-income from the internet is simple.

24. Keyword for success, “attitude” and “networking”

Always keep that in mind.

Santola Bar is a hidden coffee heaven, secretly hiding within Kolombong industrial area. It has been one of my favourite coffee spot, secretly, for many months.

It’s also where I get deals done, with clients and contractors.

(Note: this is not a paid review)

Whenever I come Santola Bar, my mood automatically turns ZEN mode.

In other words, I become a productivity machine and get my work done.

Serious!

(I suspect, mainly because there’s no distraction from attractive office lady, unlike when I am at Starbucks)

This place is so secretive that I honestly hesitate to share with readers ^^;

There are many reasons I like Santola Bar.

It’s hidden well within industrial area – no one knows how to come to this place. Even after I showed them the direction-_-

It gets very quiet at times because no one knows this place! I love it! hahaha.

I have the “get things done” mood whenever I step into this place.

This bar serves as a getaway spot for me, from the noisy and rowdy coffee bars. E.g. Starbucks during weekend, where all parents bring their children to Starbucks for weekend ‘holiday’.

It’s a living hell.

Free Internet Wi-Fi. (their password is cafe123456, and no-one share bandwidth with me, heheheheheh)

Staffs are friendly. And they know their coffee!. Why? they have their own certified barista training here. All staff are the Jedi of coffee.

Santola bar only serve local coffee, Cap Kuda coffee, which are sourced from Tenom. They roast their own coffee in this own building, then distribute it. You’ll smell awesome coffee aroma from miles away.

Most customers here are either business owners or datuks-datuks, who came here to talk business. I can listen to their story from many tables away, cause the place is really quiet.

Sometimes, I feel like a boss when I am at Santola. Hehe.

They even call me Datuk nowadays.

Datuk gets RM0.25 discount.

This is my new favourite coffee spot.. please don’t come.

I’ve been particularly sensitive to newly-opened dessert chain store around Malaysia, since the opening of ZenQ at KK.

Last weekend I was at Penang for wedding dinner, so I naturally made an effort to drop by Gurney Plaza to try MeetFresh.

Why MeetFresh?

They claimed to be No.1 in Taiwan, and their dessert series are very similar to ZenQ, too.

There’s already 4 MeetFresh stores in Malaysia – 2 MeetFresh in Penang itself.

I assume it’s from the same owner?

I asked for staff recommendation and he introduced me shaved ice series. I am particularly concern with the quality of Taro balls from Meetfresh (the orange color and purple color thing), also the red beans and the sweetened yam.

I’m going to dissect what I like, and what I don’t like — compared to my personal experience with ZenQ.

Disclaimer: I am judging the dessert from personal point of view, not a business owner of ZenQ.

Firstly, ZenQ sweetened yam is way tastier. Perhaps MeetFresh ones are too dry and chunky?

Taro balls are ok – but need more improvement on making it more ‘dongiao dongiao’ (chewy). Maybe I am too early, and taro balls are just being prepared. It tends to be soft when it’s hot.

Red beans… meh, ZenQ red bean is larger and 绵密 (more fillings).

Overall, I still think ZenQ wins (phew!)

We are still pushing new series to keep up with the competition in Malaysia, though. Many competitors, must keep up!

Introducing Kevin Tan.

We know each other through Twitter (or forum) since 2010, and this was our first time meeting each other.

Before I run ZenQ desserts, I was involved with internet marketing. I got serious with it – which in later date I decided to forfeit my Master studies and involve in Internet Marketing full time.

Long story short – I met him when I was still struggling.

(What the heck am I saying, I am still struggling.. hahahahahahaha)

Kevin had his first success after running his online business, and sold it in later date. Got the first fortune, and get married.

We were like long-lost brother when we meet, cause we have same frequency. Which is very rare among Sabah, let alone whole Malaysia.

Have you heard that, deals were made on napkins in coffee shops?

In this case, we used an ordering form, from Old Town cafe ^^;

“Since we are starting a new project at same time, let’s do something to keep ourselves accountable”, I suggested to Kevin.

Then we drafted out what we need to complete + achieve by end of May, just before Kevin’s first born, which is expected in June (CONGRATULATIONS!!)

Kevin will need to close 20 sales by May, and I’ll need to complete high quality articles that will be shared for more than 150 times.

Loser will need to do certain tasks for the winner, which I am not revealing here.

By the time of this writing (24 March 2012), Kevin has already started to close sales! Well done! I am only half way done T_T

I spend my weekend at Penang not long ago. Was there to attend The Queen’s brother’s wedding.

At the same time, I am also meeting THE relatives of The Queen. First time meet so many relatives at once. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

All these statue of Chinese 生肖 looked very animated, and it’s very new.

The last time I was here, was 2007, and I only visited the lower part – didn’t know there’s many more to be explored at top of the hill.

Besides the food at Penang, Kek Lok Si temple is a must-visit.. especially night time.

With the preparation of launching SabahGuide.com, I have been busy exploring my own town.

Yes you heard me right.

I am one of many locals who haven’t explore their own backyard.

I invited Hayden and MeiTzeu to join this little “expedition” – to the pasar just at neck of the woods. (Not even 5 minutes drive from my house, heh)

I thought this Filipino market only sell seafood, and boy I was wrong!

They sell almost every thing that’s consumable here, except porn DVDs.

The market is separated into a few sections. Each section has their own specialisation. E.g. dry food, wet food, hawker stalls, seafood section, dan sebagai-bagainya (ok I admit I lazy type)

This place serves no pork, as far I am concerned.

Also, I rarely see the hawkers wash their wok – the “essence” of previous food is soooooooo _______ (fill in the blank)

You pick any seafood – they will prepare for you.

They offer same services as 5 stars hotel. You can die happily now.

The food court is properly sheltered, you don’t have to worry about rains here. No fans required, because you can enjoy sea breeze for free.

This Filipino market is situated strategically on one of the most prominent spot in KK, The Waterfront.

Heck, you can immediately go to water hole right after your meal, which is only 1 minute walking distance from the Filipino market.

(Drop by Shamrock Irish Pub, you might bump into me. Frequent customer there!)

There’s no reason to go Ocean Seafood restaurant if you can have the same seafood for cheaper price.

For your information, Ocean Seafood restaurant is high class seafood restaurant where tourists usually have their once-in-a-lifetime-most-expensive-high-class seafood dinner (this is where tour guides bring you).

I tell you – you can enjoy almost the same quality seafood here, just walking distance!

Look at the freaking huge prawn.

Hayden keep saying “OMG PROTEIN SOURCE”. He is excited like a kid in a porn shop.

I wanted them to prepare this prawn my favourite way – wet-butter style. Then, imagine slapping the buttery huge prawns on my face..

What the…

You fear big prawns bite you instead of you eating them?

No worries. They serve many sizes of prawns and squids too.

The largest piece of squid on right hand side, is larger than my palm ^^;

“Mak Cik, do you serve this next day too?”

“No no we finish sell, tomorrow new, ya new.”

Ngai diao, if that’s true, I have to stop selling desserts and start selling seafood!

In case you don’t know, most of the hawkers there speak proper English too.

“HAALLO SIR! prawn RM20 fish RM10 satay RM15 bla bla bla bla”

I keep speaking English with them, then suddenly say “bah kasi sia satu itu udang basar-basar tu”

They @@” then smiled. Heh.

Hayden shouted “OMG PROTEIN SOURCE” again. It happens every time lots of meat appeared in front of him.

Didn’t know they have wet market here too, I always thought wet market only available during morning to afternoon.

Boy I was wrong.

Texture is crunchy, and taste like sea (seriously)

There’s also another sea-vegetable, that is known as “green caviar”. Usually mixed with chili and lime and eat it just like that.

I don’t know why, but look at the way they prepare the food, I SIMPLY know that the food tastes great.

Food prepared with unwashed hand is the way to go!

Fuck those who handle food with rubber gloves!

OK I did not witness how this mee goreng was prepared. By the look and smell of it, I know the wok is damn hot and it’s prepared by hawker chef that has prepared this dish for thousands of time.

And boy it tastes good!

Mee Bakso, a bit disappointing according to Hayden and MeiTzeu. The mihun was not properly washed…

Eh nolah just kidding, how they know the mihun was not washed by just tasting?

They said the mihun need to “rendam” longer so it gets softer, and also need more time soak up the beef broth.

Food tastes ok, but overall experience is awesome. Even for local like me. (I grew up here past 21 years, another 6 years at Australia, #FYI)

Who would have guessed that KK’s own Filipino place is a great place to find food and hang out?

It’s directly opposite Le’ Meridien Hotel.

“WHAT!? Fullhouse is at KK already!?”, a friend asked in Twitter.

“I never heard Fullhouse o, very famous one meh?” I replied.

“Their desserts are awesome, and they are every where around KL”

“Ok let’s go tomorrow!”

12 hours later, I am at Fullhouse, with 4 other friends joining me for restaurant review.

I ordered Chicken Burger (set lunch) RM19.90 – Well…. the food looks nice. But the taste is so-so only. Appearance is enticing and attractive, and that’s always a bonus.

“How was it?” they asked. Obviously my lunch set is best looking (and biggest portion).

“Umm, Ramlee burger tastes wayyyy better to be honest ^^; Also double mushroom swiss from Burger King”

“Nothing beats Ramlee burger, period.” they all nodded.

Lisa ordered Salmon Salad RM16.90 – It taste exactly like what you imagined. Smoked salmon, tastes like smoked salmon ^^;

YSLo commented on the mango, “yer why so dark one”. LOL. The only thing that’s worth mentioning is the vegetable, “this tastes good, maybe they are using balsamic vinegar”

HAHAHHA. it’s good because of the vinegar, omg punya lame la you, Lisa!

Lisa also ordered Alfunghi Spaghetti (set lunch) RM16.90.

“Oh gui la…… so dry……….” said Lisa.

“They should pour Man Tai’s “万泰” sauce on it HAHAHAHHAHA” said YSLo.

(note: Man Tai is KK’s famous dish from Beaufort – the dish usually comes with delicious sauce)

YSLo and Hin Ching ordered Chicken Chop (set lunch) RM18.90 – If this dish can only described with one word, it would be ‘salty’.

I would say, ‘tiny’.

We suspected YSLo’s chicken chop was cut into half before serving… and we keep laughing at his dish portion.

“Maybe it was a mistake or left over from previous customer, since your order arrives 3 minutes after order! Hahhahah”

When Hin Ching’s chicken chop arrives..

“BAHAHAHH ALSO SMALL-SMALL ONE!!” all finger pointing at Hin Ching’s dish.

The portion size shown in menu is misleading, but that’s OK. Their staff attitude is nice and friendly, that alone makes the whole experience different and worth the visit.

… high quality staffs are difficult to find, seriously. I am speaking this from personal experience -_-

(I always get complaints for lousy customer service in my shop, so I understand ^^;)

I ordered this also, I think this is the biggest portion of all, Wok-Sear Chicken Chop RM18.90.

YSLo and me wanted to try some of the shirt but obviously it’s only for women. Well, we can still try if we wanted to, unfortunately there’s no size for both of us. Meh. 不好玩了.

From my observation, the owner must have spent over millions on decorations and renovation. The whole business premise has taken 4 shop lots some more (!).

Gasp.

Monthly rent can almost buy a Toyota Vios, in cash. lol.

I also heard that Fullhouse allows customers to take wedding photos in the restaurant premises. Is that true?

Price is fair – given the friendly staff and excellent environment.

Don’t expect too much from the food, though I was told that all Fullhouse’s food are nothing worth mentioning. #somolin

Fullhouse menu is a little magazine – besides the usual food pictures, it also includes fashion, lifestyle, photos of ambassadors and past events.

“Can I order this?”, the waiter didn’t give me a fuck. Hahahaa.

So, yesterday I feel like doing some proper food review again, saw MeiTzeu blog about Kalamata’s restaurant at Api-Api Centre.

“Aiyah sui bian la, just go only” I say to myself.

“I lazy make decision, simply pick this restaurant to review la! You come join me ok!” I told me food partner in crime, Hin Ching.

Kalamata’s Resto Bar serves Western and Filipino food – Fusion style, bebeh.

“Can I ask, why are you taking photos of my menu?” tough Indian guy talked to me while holding a glass of Tiger beer.

“I write food reviews”

“Why take photos of my menu?”

“For reference”

I offer to shake hand with the owner, he reluctantly shake my hand. I hope I can ask more questions, “would you like to have a seat and have a chat?”

“No thank you” and the owner walks away.

“…… errrr”

“Can I have the name card also please” I raised a bit my voice while he is walk away.

He orders his staff to get one name card for me but it never arrived.

Meh, lousy first impression.

I started off with a caesar salad, RM10. Reasonable price. One thing worth mentioning, the chicken is tender and juicy. Unfortunately the dressing spoiled it.. By smelling at it, I know it’s the cheapest mayonnaise found in supermarket.

Yes, I am super sensitive to mayonnaise cause I’m a big fans for Kewpie Mayo.

Something something soup, RM10 (Hahaha I lazy to refer back to menu while writing this). VERY flavourful. Lots of ingredients were put into the soup. Both Hin Ching and me keep saying “whoa this is nice”. It’s mostly chicken, onion, tomato and ginger.

Chicken chop RM15.90. The waitress recommended this, Hin Ching said he liked and and chomp chomp chomp – finished in 10 minutes. “Eh the chicken breast is very tender nehhhh” he said.

Adagong (Adogon? Adagang? Ada-apa-apa?) Chicken RM10, chicken that is prepared by vinegar and soy sauce. This shit is awesome man. I finish the dish by itself without makan nasi. This turns out to be a great food after you had 3 pints of beer.

Then, you mix the leftover sauce on your rice. MAKAN again.

Note2: The owner didn’t give me name card, thus I don’t know when is their business hour or contact details.

Note3: Despite the ungrateful attitude, I still write this post because the food is really nice. Most importantly, they also serve draught beer. It’s a great bonus for beer lovers like me.
