Our gang are randomly made up of different background, we are from different high school, and ENTIRELY different field.

KK is such a small place so we basically know everyone. We know your yi ma gu jie and what your dad did at night club yesterday.

For each question you ask him you have to pay consultation fee. Last time I heard is RM25 per question. So many your question count.

What are these shot glasses about?

When you have nothing else to do beside look at stage performance and everything is pretty much routine. You want spice up the night. We ordered a tower of beer, and each of us have to drink a shot of beer EVERY MINUTE.

It was looooong time ago since I tasted burger bakar, with my makan-makan buddy, Hin Ching. I think it was August – September 2012 bah..

Burger Bakar is located at Tanjung Aru Plaza food court. It’s located at the deepest part of the food court and it wasn’t too difficult to find this place because they had this big banner written “Burger Bakar”.

To be honest, this was my first time visiting this food court. Besides burger bakar, you can find many other stalls that serves other kind of food. One of the notable stall is Giant Burger – it’s the burger as huge as face.

Also you can get the usual chicken wings, western food and lots of others food stall that serves mee goreng etc.

Hin Ching runs Kota Kinabalu Eats and most of his photos are taken with his trust iPhone4S. Now his page is reaching almost 6,500 fans – very kin yau!

Ahbing.com Facebook page is only 1,400 fans. Amehhhh……

He ordered Burger Bakar Lava – I think. It’s been many months since we ate this.

INI KALI LA!!! – Burger Bakar (insert very powerful name) RM20+ It costs that much because I add all every toppings there is available.

But kan… this burger is only available in beef. Boh kambing, boh ayam, boh sayur… it’s pure carnivorous carnival.

I had to consume this piece of burger in 3 separate portions. Impossible to bite this burger unless you’re Jessica Simpson. (My dad says her mouth can fit in two apples when she sings).

My personal verdict:

If Burger Bakar can replace their mayonnaise with Japanese Kewpie mayo, and replace better tomato ketchup… I believe the taste will raise to another level.

I get the news of this burger stall through Dinoza’s tweet – Burger Bakar is doing great job by promoting burger through social media. It gets a lot of attraction when they launch… but kan, I have to say la.. the burger patty is a bit dry and hangus when I had mine.

Would I go back for another time?

Yes – in fact I’ve returned 3-4 times. The latest time I visit this place, they included chicken into their new menu. Woooohooo!!!

I flew to Lahad Datu for 3 days 2 nights for my uncle’s wedding. He is marrying an Islam wife so he is converting to Islam.

Among my closest relative, I think he is the 3rd relative that converted to Islam.

I tell you, if you have the chance to come over my house for Chinese New Year, you can see white black yellow brown color skin. Luckily no one marries any Avatar character yet (color is blue).

Someday, I want to build a building that’s taller than Yayasan Sabah at Kota Kinabalu. Anyone interested in development job with me?

This is how you claim your luggage at Lahad Datu airport. All manual hard work tu… no conveyor belt (ngam ka this term? please correct me) to transfer your luggage like most major airport do. lol.

Old school style, brother!

Hello, this is my mum.

We are instructed to wear blue color to represent the other half side of the marriage. The entire team of us is like alien invading kampung when we arrived. lol.

My youngest aunt is only 1 year older than me while the oldest sibling maybe is the age of your grandfather.

You say my grandpa very kuat? My grandma even more kuat I tell you.

We are in blue and the opposite family is in purple.

Malay style feast never fails to impress me. The entire kampung invades your house from morning and night, and you keep feeding them. I wonder how many cows were sacrificed for this event.

When we are done with our first round of invasion, we decided to pay a visit to nearby… nearby place… erm… erm…

Shit I forgot what’s that place called.

Something related to protected wildlife near Lahad Datu.

But nevermind – the main point is, we have no idea how far it is so we departed Lahad Datu quite late.

First row are my aunts (I have pretty aunts), and sleeping cousins in the back row of car. They must have been tired from playing too much iPad games, lol.

Do you see what I see?

Many see palm oil on the truck, but I see MONEY. I can smell the money from far far far away…

Only if I have 200+ of these trucks on the road transferring my palm oil daily.

Cousins pretend they didn’t hear anything and they did the Oppa Sabah Style dance. They dance with the element of lalazai moves… that’s why it’s Sabah style, lololol.

They are upcoming young talents in Sabah. Remember them!

Apa lagi? Ini kali lah! All the beers are chilled before we go to dinner… and this is where the party starts.

Cousins play with cousins and aunts and uncles rebonding, blow water kuat kuat.

Endless topic after intoxication, and that often brings family closer together.

I love these gatherings because no one pays attention to phone/iPad/gadgets.

It’s pure communication and bonding.

“Eh Baxter, mana ada tempat makan sadap sini?”.

My cousin Baxter grew up here at Lahad Datu for many years so he brought us to a local mamak restaurant for lunch. We speak many languages in our family, from Mandarin to Cantonese to Malay to English to Dusun.

Nope, we haven’t make any advancement in Hindu yet.

We still have 1 hour to kill in Lahad Datu so we go long kai loh. I suggested to go check out the newest mall around to see if there’s any space for rent (for ZenQ expansion).

Uih, big opportunity here oh to be honest. But I don’t have much money to do any more investment right now ^^;

We are spending our quality father and son time in a hair salon, spending entire afternoon doing hair treatment.

… what kind of treatment?

A treatment that prevents nightmare of every guy on earth… Hair Growth Treatment.

My dad says, “son, if you don’t start taking care of your hair now. You will regret when there’s no turning back.”

“See, you are losing your hair already”.

This shit just got real. Never thought I’d go for such hair treatment. I used to joke about others’ hair while my hair was like Borneo rain-forest many years back.

Ahh, those were the days.

Remember Aaron Kwok’s hair? divided in middle one… hahaha.

Now I am 28, I need to take any necessary treatment to prevent my hair from losing. If I am lucky, I am able to grow back the hairs that I lost.

After scanning my scalp, they say my hair was caused by 1) blockings and 2) mal-nutrients.

No more hair-wax.

I don’t want become botak.

See, I told you we almost ate the entire menu of La Kaffa cafe at Taiwan Day 1. Today, this is mushroom sauce spaghetti.

All the meals come with a set order. Sometimes its difficult to make decision since all of them looked so delicious. It takes a reasonable time to prepare one meal.

Here’s what’s in my mind the entire time while I am having this meal.

If I were to operate this La Kaffa cafe, what are my…

… after initial calculation, I rather be selling 生肉面. Paling wun zun!

Lots of effort goes into food preparation.

I am more into “basic and clean” when it comes to food. But when I serve ZenQ to customers, I will make an effort to make it good looking.

Maybe I’m born a business man after all.

“La Kaffa – Chatime – ZenQ” are under the same big group. This company is preparing to go IPO during our meeting in 2012. I believe they are in the final phase of becoming a listed company in 2013.

The real definition for “old school”

This restaurant brings the word “old school” to it’s basic and original meaning.. the theme of this restaurant is literally OLD SCHOOL, bukan main-main.

In this restaurant you can find all the items you usually find in an old class room.

Suddenly I feel like stepping in into a movie scene.

猪油饭, literally means pork lard rice.

Every thing is perfect when there’s pork lard involved.

The food are surprisingly delicious – from my past experience, the fancier the restaurant is (rated by how many photos I take), the more disappointed the food is. But the food here really surprises me.

Om nom nom nom we finished every thing on table while nodding countless times of head.

My buddy YSLo intended to make fruit punch at this BBQ. So he bought all the necessary fruits and alcohol to complete his major Fruit Punch Project.

Ingredients include:

• x1 bottle of Bacardi Gold
• x1 bottle of Captain Morgan
• red apples
• green apples
• oranges
• orange juice
• concentrated orange juice (sunkist?)

The Mixologist Big Daddy

You see, YSLo mixed his drink according to the exact measurement from a recipe he found online. When everything was mixed together, the taste is excellent – YOU CAN’T FEEL ANY TRACES OF ALCOHOL.

(excellent to tipu young girls, make them mabuk!)

(ps: all participants in this BBQ is adult, no young girls were harmed)

All you need to do is mix everything together in a big bowl and stir kaw-kaw.

When YSLo asked me, “Bing, how’d it taste? got alcohol?”

“NOOOOOOOOOOOO”. I was surprised it tastes so good (first time minum fruit punch, it tastes like orange juice only)

“HA HA! That’s perfect!”

Then he pours the remaining alcohol into the bowl.

… and that spoils the entire fruit punch T_T it tastes so geli after he poured all the remaining alcohol.

“Ops.” he said.

“HA HA HA, kan ni lagi bagus… kasih mabuk all!” – YSLO.

BBQ Host – Mok

This is a small gathering hosted by highschool friend of mine – Mok. We were never in same class but I don’t know how I met her. Probably we are staying in the same taman I guess?

Mok is charming and has a beautiful smile. Her biggest charm is her laugher which is contagious. She’s always surrounded by friends and no wonder she’s a class monitor.

(note: I am also class monitor, for 5 years.. hahahahahahah)

We were particularly excited when we found out the animal fats causes flames.

“Ready….” said Egg (pictured above), while everyone prepare their camera.

“OK take shot!”, he poured a bit of fats into the hot charcoal.

Now, he looks like satay guy. Hahahaha.

I went to Taiwan for an impromptu business trip (ZenQ to be exact) during October 2012. It was an emergency meeting that I had to be there on a very short notice. We stayed in one of the finest hotel at 新竹, which is 1 hour drive from Taipei.

All I can say is… PUNYA SYOKKKKKKKK.

… and punya mahal.

McDonald Supper

We arrived late in the evening so we scouted the area a bit and found some convenient stores and 24 hours McDonald.

Besides looking at Taiwan leng lui, there’s another thing that fascinates me at Taiwan.

… McDonald’s pork burger.

McDonald pork burger. Tastes way better than the one I had in Thailand.

Nothing beats McDonald’s 猪扒汉堡包… juicy and tender. Sour and creamy sauce… pure mouth orgasm oh.

I always make an effort to bring souvenirs home when I go over sea – this time I found a perfect gift for my heng dai.

First meal at La Kaffa

La Kaffa is the the “mother” group for ZenQ, which also includes Chatime and La Kaffa Cafe under the same umbrella.

We are having meeting at La Kaffa Group’s head office, and there’s cafe at their basement so there’s where we solve our lunch.

We almost tasted the entire menu of La Kaffa. The coffee, waffles, spaghetti, burgers etc. All fusion food – with the mix of foreign taste with local ingredients.

Who knows, ZenQ might venture into the food section some day. And before that day come, I still have to cook my own food.

Taiwan ZenQ

The design and feeling of ZenQ at Taiwan is pretty different from the one we had in Malaysia. They are more towards 古早 feeling while our’s have more clean and modern elements in our overall design.

The taste? I don’t want tell you – you come taste it yourself la. Hehehehe.

Malaysians are so accustomed to breaking rules. A small “No smoking” notice won’t stop us from having a power stick.

At night, we took taxi to 西门盯for a walk. Costs us about $2,000 (~RM200) per way to Taipei.

How can we not eat 阿盅面线 when we are at this place?

Bah! Tarik kuat kuat sama dia lagi!

This shit tastes great with chili and garlic oil. Fuhhh I am salivating while writing this.

“I want to win something for my lou po” said my partner.

Nope, didn’t win.

We need to wake up early next day, and attend many hours of important meeting. So our walk around 西门盯 didn’t last long. We couldn’t find any pub around that night, so sou heng (扫兴)

If there’s a will, there’s a way!

Bing never gives up!

Managed to buy a few beer back to hotel and we started drinking inside taxi… which is an hour’s ride back to hotel.

Our taxi cost for that night: RM400.

What a headline to start with, ha.

This post I am sharing a bit private, and the more serious side of me (I am serious most of the time but many digress). This post is mostly about my mentality and the Bing Way of thinking. This post is not the usual fun stuff but if you are interested why I say I am a selfish motherfucker, read on.

One of my resolution in 2013 is to form new habits – I want to become a selfish guy.

“The fastest way to fail is trying to please everyone”

I want to test how far being selfish can lead me..

You see, I really believe in “if you are trying to please everyone, you will fail” mantra. So this year, I will be doing most things for selfish reasons. It’s for the greater good of myself – in terms of achieving goals or completing a project. Trying to please everyone around me has taken some toll on achieving my goals last year. This year, I am going to change this.

And here’s how I am going to apply this “motherfucking selfishness” tactic. (I’ve already started this since Nov 2012 by the way)

Selfish #1 – “Daniel! Why are you so busy?! So difficult to find you. Damn”

… is the most heard sentence since I started the “selfish” project. You see, I schedule my time block and stick with it vigorously. Be it personal project, sports, ZenQ marketing, online courses, meeting new people, etc. I arrange all these time blocks before the week starts. When I got impromptu invitation for gathering, I’d usually reply “please make appointment 1 week early”, many people thought I am kidding…

Selfish #2 – Appointments with benefits

“Daniel, let’s come out yum cha.”

“Sure, anything we need to discuss?”

“Not really, just blow some water”

“Nah I’ll pass.”

“Come on, it will be just a while”

“No. Fuck you”

I don’t mind having a beer or two if you wanted to catch up. But catch up session don’t have to be every week – that would be wasting time. I’d be happy to meet up if you have anything serious/interesting to discuss about. Business opportunities? Call me anytime. I don’t require meetings that wastes my attention.

Selfish #3 – Priorities

Here are the break downs of my priorities in 2013 (most important at top).

1. Career – I am 28, and this is the golden age to build a business. At this age, failing at business is OK because we do not have much commitments yet. And we have plenty of time to recoup any loss investments. My stepfather 李家成 said this, “Before 30 you are seeking for opportunities; after 30 you are seeking for money”
2. Family – This one requires no explanation. If your “family” is not on top of your list, you go eat shit. I’d push away any appointments if my mum ask me home for dinner.
3. Network – I learn “It’s who you know, not what you know” while I was backpacking around South East Asia for a month last year. No matter how hard you work, you can only achieve THAT much if you are lone-warrior. Learn to leverage your connection to bring you to greater heights. Win-Win-Win situation.
4. Friends – Sorry my bros! You guys are #1 during my high school period but your era is over. But old adage still sticks – bro is always before hos, right? Beers on me when career is no longer my #1 on my list #slapchest
5. Travel – When it comes to travel, I prefer a “long-term slow traveler” where I take my time and totally immerse into the local culture. Few more later, when I have my own family, I can’t afford nor have the leisure time to do this anymore. I can’t leave my wife and kids at home the entire month.
6. Relationship – Yep. My girlfriend definitely knows about this priority ranking, and we’ve discussed about this before. Biggest reason: “My dear, I cannot feed our family in future if I spend all my time pak toh with you, right?”

Selfish #4 – Motto of 2013: “GIVE NO FUCK”

Also known as “MAO DIAO GIIII” in hakka. I started to apply this in a lot of circumstances and I think it works wonderful.

I am overly concerned of what other thinks of me. Every action I did – I will think of the consequence before hand and that stops me from performing. After applying give no fuck method. I usually complete my task more efficient without any after-thought.

One example. I always wanted to meet some one I read from magazine, and I follow his work closely. In pre-2012 I used to have this mentality – “It would be difficult to meet him, he is crazy famous and must have a busy schedule”. After applying give no fuck attitude, I texted, called, emailed, and meet soooooooooooooooooooo many people that I thought it was impossible to meet. That opened up lots of opportunities for me.

Selfish #5 – “Ship It”

“Shipping out products frequently is better than delaying perfect products” – Seth Godin. I learn this while I was setting up ZenQ in KK. You gotta hustle, and keep everything on schedule. Shipping an average product on time is BETTER than shipping a delayed but perfect product.

There are traits in every successful people, you don’t have to re-create the wheel, you only need to model their success. All of them have personal actions.”- Unlimited Power, Anthony Robbins

Deliver results is more important than giving delay excuses every time.

Selfish #6 – Let small bad things happen

“Focus on the big picture and spend your time on what matters the most. Focus on delivery result and reaching your goal – ruthlessly. It’s okay to let small bad things happen” – 4 Hour Work Week, Tim Ferriss.

You’ve spent the entire month to finish writing a book, 10% more and you’ll complete it. You are so inspired to finish the book on that day, but you need to return your drama DVD in 2 hours or else you’ll risk $5 fine. I’d say finish the book and pay the $5 fine.

A new friend of mine, Darren, invited me over to his friend’s private land to enjoy some durian and check out if the place is viable for tourist attraction or not.

Despite sleeping at 3am previous night from entire night of heavy drinking, nothing stops me from having unlimited supply of durian.

It was a pain in the ass to wake up after 4 hours of sleep @@”

FREE DURIAN. Woohooo!

“Eh? can I eat durian within 6 hours of drinking beer ah?” I asked myself.

“Don’t care la. Eat first” I convinced myself.

The last time I had durian at 6pm, and beer at 8pm… I almost went to hospital. But luckily I survived.

What can’t kill you makes you stronger, right?

“Uiks, how come so many deers in your farm one?!” I asked Darren.

Darren told me besides durian trees, the land owner also planted rambutan, manggis and lots of payao (deers).

These animals roam freely around the land… surrounded by durian trees.

“HA? these animals won’t get harm from falling durians meh?”

“Yup, last week one dead because of falling durian, hahahha”

These deer are so cute. I keep tempting them to eat the durian on my hand.

THEY HAVE FREAKING LONG TONGUE – they jilat my fingers! YUCKKKK.

Did you know that these deers also eat the durian seed, as well as the inner wall (the white part) of durian? Macam sedap oh they eat… next time I try cook soup with it see see.

Makes sense ma, right?

Nyiameh! After feeding them with LOTS of durians, they sit aside and relax. Just like us humans sit at sofa watching tv after dinner oh! Hahahahha.

After meal, they are look at us instead of us looking at them =_=”

Of course, we have to chop the durians for them – they couldn’t open the fruits themselves ma, right?

We do the hard work now first, and later you will end up on our table.

Return to city

After hanging out around 1 hour, we return to city.. but before that, I want to show you something funny.

Kedai Kopi Yung Hwa

I went to this restaurant called Kedai Kopi Yung Hwa, located at Damai.

This kedai kopi has been operating for many years, and many friends of mine always ask me to come taste their signature dish.

“Ei, their noodle is made of fish meat wan! go try eh!”

I tried to go there in the morning for many times – but often fail. I am always late.

Stall setup

The stall setup is pretty simple.

A few bowls of different fish cakes and fried wonton, tauke only takes the “liao” you want and mix and match.

If you want extra big bowl, he gives you extra “liao” lo. If you want to jaga your diet, he gives you no wanton. Easy job. He put every “liao” inside a bowl then siram the bowl kuat kuat with his fish broth soup.

Wah. Fresh fresh hot hot. Punya nice.

The Morning market menu (7am – 2pm)

When the menu says “FISH MEE”… the really mean MEE that is made of FISH.

This is the real deal, bebeh.

You can choose normal size, “ka liao” means extra toppings. “ka liao ka dai” means extra toppings and noodles for you.

Different types of broth is available too. You look at the menu la, pretty self-explainatory.

Look at the broth! Like water……… but looks can be deceiving. The soup is full of flavour. Bukan main main.

The soup is full of flavour because they cook entire fish bone in this pot of soup.

I call this the “Fountain of Fish Flavour”

OK that’s full of shit but whatever lah. Hahahha.

My makan partner, Sha, ordered konlo kuey tiaw with normal toppings.

Ta da.. the fish noodle

Me? I ordered fish noodle laaa.. that’s what they are famous for.

I saw the tauke cut the fish noodles piece by piece.. very labor intensive. The texture of the noodle is like normal fish cake, but cut in strips instead of slices.

A fresh experience for me. Texture wise? Taste like normal fish cake lo.. haha.
