A.R.E. Structural Systems Workshop - LexingtonSaturday, August 10, 2013 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. RossTarrant Architects, 101 Old Lafayette Avenue, Lexington *This workshop will also be presented September 21, 2013 in Louisville in conjunction with the AIA Ohio Valley Region Convention. Registration for that session is not yet available.***
All A.R.E. candidates are invited to attend a one-day workshop on structural systems, presented by practicing structural engineers from Luckett & Farley Structural in Louisville. This workshop provides an overview of the structural materials, components, loads, and concepts included in the ARE: Structural Systems exam. Though this will be a fast-paced review, this is your opportunity to ask questions you may have such as, “What is ‘overturning’ and how do I quantify it?”, “What is the difference between ASD and LRFD?”, “When, where, and why do I need rebar?”. Though we can’t promise we know what will be on the test, this course is designed to lend a helping hand to those who find ‘Structural systems’ to be intimidating or insurmountable by demonstrating how to find solutions effectively. Admission is FREE for AIA Associate Members or $15 for others. Lunch and Presentation Slides are included.

An Online Competition Showcasing Kentucky's Favorite Architecture

Kentucky Architecture 50:50 will serve as the commemorative 50th Anniversary project for AIA Kentucky. This initiative will showcase Kentucky architecture through an interactive online competition that engages Kentuckians in identifying and voting for their favorite architecture. 50:50 not only reflects our anniversary and references the 50 buildings that will be in the online competition. It also represents the nature of what architects do: balancing and blending the owner's vision and requirements with the architect's design skills in a collaborative process that results in a functional, safe, sustainable and beautiful place to live, work or play.

Elections, Annual Meeting and Holiday Party

Also featured will be the UK College of Design Exhibition of the LUHAN Studio_Fall 2012 "Bridging Between Authenticity and Permanence _ AIA KY _ Center for Architecture".

the Chapter is voting on Officers and Directors

Balloting and nominating will be conducted electronically via email solicitation, and also from the floor at the annual meeting. Both means of voting are available to allow the most number of members to participate.

Each member has one vote.

All candidates and voters must be AIA East Kentucky members in good standing.

Studio/Gang has been hired to develop design proposals for the vacant site at the intersection of Main and Lime. Kentucky architects are invited to respond to a Request For Qualifications, in an effort to identify designers of various facades and programs along Main Street.
