<p>While Latin America, Asia and other regions have their own nutritional challenges, in Sub-Saharan Africa malnutrition is still widespread and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables (FFVs) is just 1/3 the WHO&#8217;s recommended 146 KG per year and person. <p>In its continued efforts to ensure access to justice for rural dwellers and enhance the rule of law, UNMIL has handed over a newly constructed magisterial court to the local authorities of Salayea District in Lofa County.</p>

<p>UNMIL Acting Head of Field Office, Istvan Lipniczki, in his handover remarks, said the court which was funded by UNMIL Quick Impact Projects at a cost of US$ 25,000, was a 'milestone achievement that will help the judiciary realize its vital role in upholding the rule of law.' He cautioned the local magistrates to dispense justice without fear or favour, and to protect the integrity of the legal process.</p> (...)<div class="feedflare">

<p>Highlights</p>
<p> On 20 May 2013, AFAD &#8211; the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey announced that the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 17 camps in 8 provinces has increased to 194,783 including 333 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals.</p>
<p> AFAD reported that during the last 24 hrs of 20-21 May, 391 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps while 323 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.</p>

<p>Today, May 22, is the <a rel="nofollow"  href="http://wle.cgiar.org/blogs/2013/05/22/preventing-cardiac-arrest-for-cambodias-heart/www.cbd.int/idb/">International Day of Biodiversity</a>, which this year, coincides with the 2013 <a rel="nofollow"  href="http://wle.cgiar.org/blogs/2013/05/22/preventing-cardiac-arrest-for-cambodias-heart/www.unwater.org/watercooperation2013.html">Year of Water Cooperation</a>. It’s the ideal day to spend the coffee break mulling over the relationship between water, biodiversity, and agriculture in some of the world’s most critical life raft ecosystems<a rel="nofollow" title=""  href="http://wle.cgiar.org/blogs/2013/05/22/preventing-cardiac-arrest-for-cambodias-heart/#_ftn1">[1]</a> &#8211; regions where poverty is high, populations are dense and highly dependent upon nature (agriculture, fisheries, logging) for livelihoods, and where ecosystem services are severely degraded.
