BOGOR, Indonesia (22 March, 2013)_As Indonesia’s national parks face threats from deforestation and human encroachment, it’s vital that tigers, leopards and other large mammals be monitored as part of conservation efforts – otherwise clashes with people will intensify, a senior scientist with the Center for International Forestry Research warns.

“New programs or policies aimed at protecting wild animals will have little impact unless they actually monitor the territories and behavioural patterns of key species,” said Terry Sunderland.

Highlights

On 20 May 2013, AFAD – the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey announced that the total number of Syrians registered and accommodated in 17 camps in 8 provinces has increased to 194,783 including 333 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals.

AFAD reported that during the last 24 hrs of 20-21 May, 391 new arrival Syrians were registered and accommodated in the camps while 323 Syrians voluntarily returned to Syria.
