Era of cloud systems

Few years ago, we was reading about the Google OS 2010, and how this system 'll be different, people thought it will be whole new thing from Google, the concept of clouds and cloud computing wasn't as known as today,

All what we know about the new system was no more hardware feature needed, all your needs is a computer with internet connection, and you'll find all your needed application for your daily activities on the web, you'll write documents online, watching videos, music, do your daily work online, every thing you do on the web.

We were looking for this new generation of operating systems but we didn't the clear idea how it may look like.

Since the raise of cloud computing concept in commercial aspects, people started to imagine how new OSs may look like, it will be OS for new computing structure, so it will be new generation of systems, where your computer will be a connection node with minimal processing activities to connect you with the cloud, where the rest of processing will be there, where your documents, videos, music, contacts, etc..

The new system will depend on on this whole new innovated concept which called "Cloud Computing".

In November 2009, Google announces the first appear of their cloud OS, they announce it as OSS and have open it for developers around world to add their imagination to the new system, the first impression was amazing, and people were satisfied with with the system features since its alpha release as good start for the new generation of operating systems. People like it, but by the time the needs increased, developers started developing applications that works with these operating systems, in the beginning it was normal web2.0 application, but it become to change to fit the new systems. applications developed with HTML5 and Web 2.0 technologies.

But Google wasn't the only one to produce these systems, much more ideas to produce operating systems that works with the Cloud.

Tarik Kareem founder of Netvibes and Jolicloud was another guy on the stage, His linux based system was born in 2008. developed on the same aspect to work with the cloud framework, tarik was another one in the cloud systems battle.

Few days ago, Tarik founder of Jolicloud and Vye announces Jolibook, , the netbook of Jolicloud system, with Intel Atom 1.5 GHz processor, 1GB DDR3 RAM and 250Gb Hard drive. the same idea was applied by google upon the appearance of their system, and for sure Google improved their OS hardware support to be able to access more and more platforms.

Cloud system is the next generation of personal operating systems, it simply make the metter diffrent with web and simplfy your daily communication over the cloud.

I believe in these solutions to improve the performance of mankind on the web, it opens handreds and hundreds of innovation doors to implement new applications that make our life easier and better, it also improves the capabilities of the cloud, and make continous improvements in it, and force fast grow of new web technologies HTML5, Ajax, CSS etc.., to add more flexibility to make web Apps act like the classic computer Apps

Cloud systems are awesome however the disadvantages, ,I like it and I believe in it as the future systems of the future framework

Google Announces Google Chrome OS as OSS

Welcome Guys, today I've very good news for you,
Google has invited much of the technology press to an event at its Mountain View, California, headquarters on Thursday morning to demonstrate Chrome OS, which it is developing for netbooks as a new type of operating system. However, those of you who speak code can get started poking around with the operating system at the Chromium project blog, as spotted by the Google Operating System blog.

Google will show off the new OS for the first time on Thursday, and for the first time people can see the the OS, In my thoughts, Google Chrome will be the best ever lightweight Linux based notebooks OS, It is fully optimized for Internet navigation, and with the great variety of Google Applications, you can login to the system with your Google Account email, you can see your Gmail inbox, upload your photos and videos usint the greatest Picasa and YouTube, write documents on Google Docs, even if you a developer, you can access your Google Code Account, and the most exciting issue here, Google Wave, the newest innovation by google.

Most people thought Google Chrome will be commercial App, I myself think it will not, although Google have all the rights to make it so, and this will be perfectly underestandable, But I hope they release it as free opensource application.

I like Google too much, I like the way they though.

Linux Hard Links vs. Symbolic Links

Today I was looking for a solution for some problem in my website,

A solution of the problem was to use upload a folder X, in each subfolder on my server, the content of the X folder is the same in all subfolders, and if the content changed in one subfolder, it should changed in all the subfolders :O , so now, I need to copy this folder in each subfolder and each new created subfolder should contain this X folder too.

Stupid Idea (was mine) was to copy the folder in each subfolder, and the process of concurrent content checking will be done manually, Imagine the situation when you have about 50 folder and each on contain this X folder, BAAAAAAAAAAAAD

another Idea there was to create the X folder in somewhere on the server, and link it in every where you need it on the server with the same name (X), here, you will ensure that any change in the main X folder will be reflected in the links.

I myself find the Idea Excellent, but the Question was, Which type of file linking?
HardLinking or SoftLinking?

I founds SoftLinking (symbolic linking) better as I can refer to any location on the disk from any other location on the disk, not only the same partition.

My Question Here:
Will the symlinks increase the time of accessing the content from the original (X) folder than accessing it from X folder in the first solution?

Still can't find the answer, but still looking for it!

Get Chromium on your ubuntu

Today I've found a way to install Chromium (Google Chrome's core) on ubuntu, from .deb package,

The matter is very simple

First download the .deb using this command:
wget http://media.codeweavers.com/pub/crossover/chromium/cxchromium_0.9.0-1_i386.deb

Then, install it using the dpkg tool:
sudo dpkg -i cxchromium_0.9.0-1_i386.deb

the bad news -for myself- which announced in the press last months about IBM deal to buy (sun microsystems).

it become worse when I read about another offer to buy sun but this time from Oracle and HP (you can read more here)

you know, I may talk about IBM deal as sun may disappear but it will be merged in another Open Source software sponsor, IBM may look not the OS hero like Sun (which own the big collection of OS popular software, (Java, MySQL, OpenOffice, VirtualBox. NetBeans ... )), but IBM still a sponsor for OS software products.

now let's look at Oracle, and HP. (I can't compare)

last to say here, Sun would Die, But It will still in the SKY!

Overloading in PHP

since year ago, I started my way to study and be professional in PHP, since I study php well, and of course I study the OOP features in PHP, but since, I haven't know about the overloading in php, Overloading is the duplication of method name in the class, but both methods should have diffrent type of parameters and diffrent number too, i.e diffrent method signature,
but how this can be implemented with language that doesn't concern with the variable data type (I mean php),
the method overloading was the most important feature I use in Java, but it isn't exist in PHP, (as I was think)

week ago, i've read document about method overloading in OOP as one of the basic features in oop, and during the article, the author say that php has this ability, and he write this link , I've saw this link before, but I wasn't concerned with it, but now, I'm do

Get the grub of your ubuntu machine

lot of my fresh to linux friends asks about how to get the grub (boot loader information) of your machine, this grub will help you to restore your ubuntu system, after installing another OS on it beside your ubuntu.

to get the grub, you need to lig on your system as root,
su root
then enter the password,
now, this is the Xfactor:
dd if=[source] of=[destination] count=1
the command dd, which copy the content of if and put it in of location,
count means how many block copied from the source to destination
now, if you want to get the grub of your machine, you'll enter this command
dd if=/dev/sda of=/home/aigdonia/grub.bin count=1

this will read the first block form /dev/sda (you need to change it according to your system) and paste it in /home/aigdonia/grub.bin (change to wherever you like to paste)

now, you've a file called grub.bin on /home/aigdonia holds the first block of your hard disk, you can now install Windows or whatever OS you like then you'll restore the grub again by doing the following simple steps:

from your ubuntu live CD, write the following in the shell window:
sudo dd if=[grub.bin] of=[/dev/sda] count=1

this will do the reverse operation, and then you can leave the live session and log normally to your ubuntu :)

Yesterday (11 Feb) I was in Cairo ICT 2009, this is a forum and technology conference take over in Cairo/Egypt
Cairo ICT collects Technology Makers in all the world and bring them in one place to share the Technology and knowledge too,

I was there to attend conference by SUN Microsystems talks about NetBeans IDE as innovated Application to easily develop Java Applications, including Java2 SE, Java2 EE, and Java2 ME
in addition to applications profiling, and JavaFX

I like the event so much, and sun give me nice small stress ball with sun Logo on it,

I'll provide more details about the event later with pictures.

NetBeans Platform Project at Suez Canal University. I met Ahmed Gaber and another student from Suez Canal University (cool name for a university) in Ismailia, who are in a team of 10 students creating a visual database generator on the NetBeans Platform. Read about it here. Potentially, they could end up working on their project in tandem with the database engineers on the NetBeans team, but that is still under discussion. (Ahmed also created a new Shisha plugin for NetBeans IDE, which I will blog about separately, soon.) By the way, those two students traveled 5 hours to visit me in Alex ...

Get RCP book samples, for NetBeans platform

Welcome every body,
Two days ago, I was looking for Rich Client Book's samples, actually I've to find it easily on NetBeans 6.0 Update Center, but I use NetBeans 6.5.

Now I need to Get RCB samples on NetBeans 6.5

I've the solution and here is it:
First: you've to add NetBeans 6.0 update catalog to your NetBeans Plugins Sources
1. From Tools | Plugins | "Settings" Tab
2. Click Add to Add new catalog
3. set name of the new provider
and set the URL to :

http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.0/uc/final/stable/catalog.xml.gz
instead
http://updates.netbeans.org/netbeans/updates/6.5/uc/final/stable/catalog.xml.gz

press OK and checking will be done automatically,

Second , you need to set up the Module,
to do change to the "Plugins" Tab,
look for "RCP Book Samples" , check it and then press Install

now you can open the sample from File | New Project | Samples > NetBeans Modules
then the sample you like to open.

Enjoy the Book with the Samples.

Me and NetBeans!
I've used netbeans for more than two years basically as a Java IDE, but beginning from version 6.0 I've discover the C++ IDE and use it internally in my college. for this time I've learn alot about netbeans and about Java which was my working language.

since version 6.1 I've work the PHP editor and HTML, CSS and javascript editor included in it!
It was fantistic time I've spent with this editor, I've like them for the grade I've download the 6.5beta version to test it and test the new features.

I like this experience although it was the first time I work on and review a software release.

NetBeans will help me in Graduation.
Another Story with NetBeans but this time with the API,
this Year is my last year in my college and I should work on Graduation Project which will be a "data base visual design tool", I've choose the NetBeans Application Platform with the visualization tool in making my Graduation project, and I'm sure that the results will be Fantistic.

Mono2.0, .NET outside Windows

Although I like .NET technology too much and like work by it, I hate the system Called 'Windows', and this for several reasons no place to list them here!

and as I'm a ubuntu user, I've spend days looking for a way to work with C# on my lovely Linux System, and finally I've found an alternative way to work with C# and .NET other language outside Windows Cage :D

Mono Technology

the Happy news is that mono provide these languages:

C# 3.0 (including LINQ),
VB 8,
Java,
Python,
Ruby (http://www.ironruby.net/),
Eiffel (http://www.eiffel.com/),
Oxygene (http://remobjects.com/oxygene),
F# (http://research.microsoft.com/fsharp/),the new member in microsoft languages family

also you will find MonoDeveloper IDE for developing C# and ASP.NET solutions.
last 6/10 the new release Mono2.0 with the previous features which I think will be the best alternative for developing .NET Applications outside Windows Cage.

Last 2nd September. Google announces the Beta R elease of their Open Source Web Browser “Google Chrome“, and as expected from Google, new Ideas released too .

Google have made the Beta Release for Windows System, and Linux and Mac will be released soon, although Linux Users (Like me!) can Install it on Wine.

I’ve see the videos of Google talking about Google Chrome and you can find it here, also you can read the blog post about it on Google Blog

Last days, I just Start try to work on Internet,

Access Source Forge Web Space from Ubuntu

Source Forge is on one of the most famous source code repository and acts as a centralized location for software developers to control and manage open source software development.

It provide open source projects hosting with :-

Allow any project uniquely named in its registry to be sub-domained as
(http://project-name.sourceforge.net) or (http://project-name.sf.net).
This gives some prominent URL branding to a project and a high activity in it can get the project listed on the main page http://sourceforge.net as a Top Project.
SourceForge.net provides ample storage space for a project to completely house their contents such as a wiki, MySQL database, source code versions managed with CVS or Subversion, and even their own website pages at the subdomain location.

one of the most useful features in this site is the web space which can be accessed from URL like http://notey.sourceforge.net

which can be accessed from secure shell (SSH)

while I'm using Ubuntu I discover a way to access this site and upload my project site pages from GUI tool, not the shell, the steps are too easy

From Places Menu in the Upper Bar :
Places => Connect to Server
In Service Type,
Select SSh
Server is {shell.sourceforge.net} or {shell.sf.net}
(depending on the given site URL)
In Folder: this given to you on the admnstration site.
in my case it will be /home/groups/n/no/notey
In the user name write your
SourceForge UserName
Then Press 'Connect' to connect to the server
If Password required, Enter you SourceForge Account PWD
Enjoy Your Project's Web Space.

one year or less ago since I begin using Linux as my primary operating system.

a year passed and I've learn lot of linux tricks, know lot of friends from linux and make money too,

one year of the Open source spirit and the world of freedom.

during this year, I use most common Open Source software and technologies, I also learn how to look for solutions of my problems, know how to live free and open (Source) :D

Welcome Everybody,
the last 3 days, since 26 June in the Local finals of Robocon Egypt 2008 which held in Cairo.
Really, the event was very exited and the chellange was hard too.
the most Exited thing in these three days was working in group, and invest any tiny component in making the way to your goal.

actually I can't continue talking, I'm too tired
need some rest :)
