A day is not complete without hearing something about Ajith Kumar or about his movie for his die-hard fans. For such fans, we bring you the latest buzz about his untitled forthcoming movie, which is called by the name 'Thala 55'. Last evening, a colourful scene was shot and the news has been revealed by none other than the film's cinematographer Dan MacArthur.

Dan MacArthur is the one man in 'Thala 55', who is active on social media website. Earlier, he had given bites on Twitter about the movie. This time, he has chosen the Facebook platform to reveal a piece of news about the flick. He wrote that the colorful scene has been shot in a theatre and Ajith Kumar and Trisha were part of the sequence.

He wrote, "Filmed a colorful scene last night in a theater with hundreds of extras and Ajith and Trisha ... Thala 55 is looking very cool!" The upcoming movie was launched in April and since then the shooting has been progressing in a rapid speed. The makers of the movie wanted to release the film in November. "Jigarthanda" producer Kathiresan has bought the remake rights of Rajinikanth's cult classic film "Moondru Mugam," which hit the screens in 1982.

"Moondru Mugam" is the superstar's one of the best films and he won the best actor award from the Tamil Nadu government for his portrayal of triple roles in it– Alex Pandian, Arun and John.

R. M. Veerappan produced the Rajini starrer under the banner of Sathya Movies and now Kathiresan of Five Star films has bagged the remake rights of the hit film.

There are a lot of rumours doing the rounds as to who would reprise Rajini's role in the remake version. The latest buzz is that Ajith and Vijay, two of the biggest stars of Tamil cinema, are the front-runners to play the triple roles in the remake. Speculations are rife that Karthi might also be considered for the lead role.

It may be recalled that Ajith has starred in the remake of Rajini's "Billa," which also turned out to be a highly successful film. Kollywood’s suave villain, model-actor Vidyut Jamwal, talks to Srinivasa Ramanujam about his role in Anjaan, his favourite Chennai hangout and being vegetarian

When Vidyut Jamwal walked into a packed Sathyam theatre on Tuesday morning, he heard a roar. A song from Anjaan was being screened and the crowd went bonkers seeing their favourite star, Suriya, and him, on screen. And when Vidyut went on stage and the anchor introduced him as the one who starred in Thala Ajith’s Billa 2, the cheers were deafening.

For this handsome hunk, the Chennai filmi experience is a first. And he loved every minute of it. “It was great,” he says, seated comfortably in his room at a star hotel, “I can see how people here are responding to me and my films. They recognise me and appreciate my work.”

They should. After all, he’s already had films with the three top stars in Kollywood — Ajith, Vijay and Suriya — in Billa 2, Thupakki and Anjaan respectively. “I’m lucky to have worked with all these superstars,” he says, “Ajith is such a charmer. Suriya is intense. And Vijay is a real fun-loving guy.”

His upcoming Tamil release, Anjaan, sees him playing a different role, something that he’s not done before. So, how did he land it? “I’d gone to an awards function and met Lingusamy at the post-event party. He said that he’d been following my work and wanted to cast me. I thought he was telling me that just out of courtesy. We didn’t even exchange numbers, actually.”

But in a few days’ time, he got a call from the makers and soon enough, he was in Chennai to audition for the role. “That was my first audition actually,” he guffaws, “He (Lingusamy) made me react to a whole set of situations.” That’s because Vidyut isn’t playing the villain in this film, but a role that is still under wraps. “You could say Suriya and I are ‘partners in crime’,” is all he’s willing to reveal at the moment.

He might be known as a hotshot villain in K-town, but back in Mumbai, Vidyut is popular for being one of the few actors who practises martial arts extensively. He’s an active practitioner of kalaripayattu. “Sometimes, people don’t know what kalari is and how it can help you,” he rues. But he’s all praise for silambam, a martial art form that has been extensively showcased in films. “I’ve watched MGR’s films in which he performs silambam…they’re so good.”

His everyday routine begins quite early, for he starts training as early as 6 a.m. His stunt team comprises even slum kids interested in action. “If I find talent on the street, I just pick them up. We train together and my team even consists of a vada-pav seller and a plumber.”

Those are the people who worked extensively on his Hindi film, Commando, which featured some adrenaline-pumping stunts. “I never use any graphics or special effects for the stunts. As I’m trained in martial arts, it’s easy for me to perform them,” says the actor, who was declared ‘PETA India’s Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity’ last year.

Vidyut has been a vegetarian for almost 12 years now. “I used to eat everything and suddenly, one day, I turned vegetarian,” he recalls, “There was no particular reason. But I could feel a sea change in the way I thought after that. My body too was in perfect shape after that. And cognitively, I’ve grown a lot since I turned vegetarian.”

His next projects include Yaara, which features Shruti Haasan, and a film on the life of Bodhidharma. “I’m playing Bodhidharma and we’re trying to work out my look for the film,” he reveals, “I’ve seen Suriya playing the character in 7aum Arivu but our film will have a different take on the Buddhist monk, who was born in Kancheepuram but went on to become a well-known name in China.”

In Chennai, when he isn’t promoting his films or busy with events, the actor makes it a point to visit the IIT campus. “I always go there when I come to the city,” he says, “I’ve a friend there and the campus is so serene and lovely. And, there’s a certain energy about the students that’s so infectious.”

There were reports that a few of the set members from the Gautham Menon-Ajith's film unit were arrested. It was said that the team has been shooting in a particular place without taking necessary permission from local authorities. However, people from the sets have denied any such developments.

According to reports, the team has been shooting in Pallavakkam during nights for past 20 days. Many from the area were unhappy as there were lots of disturbance. The incident in question is supposed to have happened when the crew was shooting at Pallavakkam in the night. The residents of the area reportedly called in the cops, citing public disturbance. Over the past few years, Ajith's birthday was also synonymous with some new update or the other about his under-production movies in those particular years. Chennai: For die-hard fans of Thala, his birthday, which falls on May 1 (today), is as important a day as one of his movie releases. While Ajith has made it a point to disband his fan clubs all over the state, his ‘true’ fans go that extra mile to ensure that their favourite matinee idol’s birthday is not ignored.

Vinodh, who is the Coimbatore District Secretary of Ajith Fans, says that like last year, the celebrations will be kept low key. “This year, we will be celebrating by arranging food for everyone at the Seva Ashram here. Plus, notebooks and text books will be distributed to deserving children in the city,” says Vinodh.

“Sir doesn’t like us advertising the fact that it is his birthday. Sir has always told us not to spend money on promoting him unnecessarily — be it on his movie releases or his birthday. So we do this for our own satisfaction.” In Chennai, Sachin Mani, who used to be the President of the Ajith Fans Associaiton, before it was disbanded, details similar plans. “We are sponsoring food (biriyani) for all the residents of Bharat Mata Trust and sponsoring the education of 10 students. We will also give text books and notebooks to 300 students. We are providing annadhaanam through Samarpana, another charitable organisation,” says Sachin.

Although one of Ajith’s biggest hits, Amar kalam, was supposed to release at Albert Theatre on Friday, this has been called off. Sachin says, “Sir always told us not to celebrate by putting up posters and cut-outs of him — be it during the release of his film or on his birthday. He told us that if we were insistent on celebrating, we must do some sort of service to charity. We are merely honouring his words.”

Sridhar Sivakumar, an ardent fan of Thala’s, will also celebrate Ajith’s birthday by visiting an orphanage at Virugambakkam and serve biriyani to the needy. Although it is a special day for the fans, Sridhar is mildly upset about not being able to watch Amarkalam.

“We wanted to watch the film first. As we are unsure if it is going to release, we shall first go to the orphanage to offer some food. Last year, we cut a huge cake and celebrated on a grand scale. This year, we have planned to celebrate his birthday in a simple manner. Regardless of how we are going to celebrate, we will ensure that we follow his advice forever. Our Thala always says, ‘Live and let live!’ That is our life’s motto too. Happy birthday, Thala. We love you!”
