Dropsy Version 1.4 Patch Notes

Another big patch for Dropsy is live! This one aims to bring parity between the mobile and PC versions, so that you’re playing the exact same game anywhere you play. We also fixed some Steam achievements that weren’t popping correctly and a whole bunch of small bugs and edits to quests.

12-6-2014 ~ New Dropsy video update!

All scenes are IN! Not complete, but they actually exist and you can explore them. All ~70ish scenes for the main gameworld are implemented. Entrances and exits, walkable areas, and audio are finished for all of them. It’s super rewarding being able to explore and hear Chris’s lovely music bring the place to life, even if many of the scenes are still just temporary sketches. This will also allow the programmers to implement puzzles before I finish the background art. (I am slow.)

I forgot to note this in the video - but day and night cycles are also in! Woo! There’s no color grading yet, so some backgrounds and NPCs look too bright/dark against the sky at certain times, but that’s coming soon.

Puzzle assets are now being worked on and implemented too. Jesse from A Jolly Corpse has been hard at work on some fantastic NPC sprites/animations, while I’ve been knocking out background art.

I’ll also be speaking on the Indie Origins Panel from 2:30 to 3:30. “Hear the amazing, deep, dark, twisted and death defying origin stories of how several of our humble Orlando indie game studios began! …Ok fine perhaps that’s being a bit over dramatic, but listen, starting a games studio isn’t easy! It takes a lot of effort and resources to start a studio and these are their stories.”

Unfortunately, we’re pushing release back again, and it will now fall somewhere from April to June. The new schedule is based on how fast we’ve been able to work thus far, and it’s pretty thoroughly detailed with specific weekly tasks for each team member. We’re leaving the window wide just in case we can finish work more quickly than planned. As much as it pains me to delay the game, this is where we’re at. Still plugging away and having fun though!

Independent developer Jay Tholen of Tendershoot and rogue publisher Devolver Digital have teamed up with A Jolly Corpse to bring you the surreal new open-world adventure game Dropsy.

Jay Tholen is an old friend of ours, and we’ve been at the edge of our seats waiting for Dropsy since the project was Kickstarted last year. Since then Jay’s created an amazing, detailed world in gorgeous pixel art and an incredible soundtrack. When he approached us asking for the game to finally be made a reality, we couldn’t refuse.

From Devolver’s press release: “Dropsy is a non-traditional take on the classic point and click adventure formula starring the game’s perpetually carefree namesake clown as he explores a richly detailed world full of colorful characters and sinister secrets, dolling out hugs along the way. Rather than lead players on a singular narrative path, players are free to choose which avenues of adventure they want to explore in an open world setting and can piece the puzzles and story together however they choose.

"During the quest to clear his name after a deadly circus fire, Dropsy will encounter a peculiar cast of folk to communicate with through visual icons rather than the traditional text dialog trees. Through these rudimentary conversations, Dropsy takes players on a self-aware journey of self-discovery with a story that harnesses powerful themes of love and redemption – Dropsy the character is an outsider, longing for a community to call his own. Along his adventure, players will find answers to geographically based puzzles, unravel dark and shameful secrets from his past, and collect fancy items to stuff in his elastic waistband for use along the way. Oh, and Dropsy can also talk to animals.”

Mort the Jolly was heard remarking “I like the clown’s weird face.”

Adventure game, kittey game, and whale-fart expert Bernie of Origami Hero has also joined the team, assuring that we actually have a chance of knowing what we’re doing. Bernie’s another old friend, whose extensive library of completely free, finished games is rivaled by few others in the scene.

We couldn’t be more excited to be helping in finally bringing Dropsy to life. Watch for its first demo at Austin's Fantastic Arcade this weekend! :D

So this happened:

We deeply apologize for the constant problems people have been having with online play, and appreciate PewDiePie and Cry’s abilities to make even just trying to connect to our server the funniest thing you’ve seen all day.

The good news? I just played an hour long game with David on Steam. Yes, over the INTERNET.

We’re doing private tests now and will be opening public beta as soon as possible. Once we confirm it doesn’t break every other hour like has been the norm, we’ll launch on Steam and update all other available versions. I won’t give an ETA since we never hit them, but it is super for real imminent.

Subscribers to the mailing list will be the first invited to the public beta, so sign up on our front page to be notified.

Green Ooze gets all over SmashBox

Exciting news, corpses! SmashBox has been greenlit, joining Wyv and Keep in our ever-growing list of games queued up for release on Steam. Luckily this one doesn’t include online multiplayer, so the time until release should be relatively short!

Special thanks to the Who’s Gaming Now crew for helping get the game accepted! Anyone who participated in the promotion will be treated to a free copy of the game as soon as we release.
