Every year, around February or so, I reserve a few hotels (and now RV parks) for a few photo get-a-ways. I finally dusted my camera off, charged my batteries, and headed out today to take a few quick shots.

Great things will come this year – I can feel it!

WindSwept ::: Capturing Motion

This image will hang on the wall of a law firm in downtown Seattle. Several weeks ago, I was asked to capture a “dramatic skyline” of Seattle. There were a few locations that would work, but with the right equipment, the viewpoint from Alki has the most to offer. It was a no-brainer, in my opinion. I’ve taken a ton of pictures from this viewpoint over the past 10 years, and I know the potential. At any rate, I patiently waited on the weather to turn, and once the forecast said cloudy with a little rain, I decided to give it a go.

My goal was to have the right color (sunset), and to capture the movement of the clouds. I shared the final image with my client, and SUCCESS! The final image will be matted, framed, and shipped to the client… and will hang in their very nice conference room.

Pacific Northwest Photography Workshops

Photography workshops for 2015 have been announced!!! These early bird specials won’t last very long. These specific classes will only accommodate up to 10 people, and will span over two days in the Palouse, the Olympic Peninsula, or the Columbia Gorge.

Students will be provided access to excellent photo locations and will be given instructions on how to compose and construct beautiful landscape images. Costs do not include food, transportation, or lodging.

Autumn’s Fantastic Colors

I just returned home from a quick 3-day excursion to Skamania Coves in Stevenson, WA. I decided to take the camper down south to visit the Columbia Gorge and surrounding areas. I’m glad I did…

If you didn’t know, my oldest daughter’s name is Autumn. It (Autumn) also happens to be my favorite season – especially for photography. I really didn’t know what to expect for this trip, but it turned out to be perfect timing. I would’ve stayed longer, but I crossed paths with a black bear in my campsite, and decided to cut the trip short.

At any rate, here are a couple of the images that I captured. I hope you enjoy them.

Wild Horses in Washington

So, I found a little motivation today and decided to get out and take some pictures. However, the weather had different plans – just my luck. There was rain… Lots and lots of rain.

One of the cool things about Washington is that, if you try hard enough, you can almost always find dry(er) weather. Just east of Snoqualmie Pass is almost always a safe bet. I gave it a shot today.

The image below was taken during somewhat of a windstorm. Hiking up and down the steep hill was challenging, and managing to keep my tripod from vibrating was even more challenging. Nevertheless, it was dry. And when it’s dry, things happen.

I hope you enjoy this image. It was taken at the Wild Horses Monument in Vantage, Washington.

Nature’s Glory

So, call me crazy, but I never heard of Flickr “Explore” until today. I posted the linked image on Flickr late last night. At about noon today, I noticed that I had received about 40 emails from people all over the world… Several of them were in different languages. Apparently, Flickr receives about 6,000 image uploads every minute — That’s about 8.6 million photos a day! From this massive group of images, the Flickr Interestingness algorithm chooses only 500 images to showcase for each 24-hour period.

Anyhoo, my sunset image made the cut… Just the nudge I needed to grab my camera bag and head out the door to “explore” even more.

I’ll check back in tonight… Hopefully, with more interesting photos. Thanks, Flickr, for the motivation!

All Sunsets Are Not Equal

I’m thinking this is my most favorite image so far (this year). I can’t say enough about this place. The Oregon Coast is just full of wonders. I’ll certainly be heading back before summer is over. Great place to camp, fish, and be one with nature.

The Most Beautiful Place on Earth

I had the opportunity to make a few stops along the Oregon Coast this past weekend. Being that I live in Washington state, I didn’t expect to see anything significantly different. Boy, was I shocked and surprised… I spent the majority of my time in Bandon, Oregon. This is a great place to camp (if you’re into that type of thing). Highly recommended for anyone that needs to plan a summer road trip.
