According to twitter user, Fofo, who shared the sordid tale, a bride failed to show up at her wedding last Saturday at Ikeja, Lagos, which led to the cancellation of the ceremony and leaving both families humiliated. The runaway bride was later found in a hotel room with her ex boyfriend in the same hotel the whole family and bridal train were lodged in.

Forget all the romance movies you watch, never cancel a wedding on the wedding day. Too many people will be hurt.

A final year female student of the Delta State Polytechnic, simply identified as Julia, was allegedly murdered by her cultist lover, in her room on Tuesday

According to Sahara Reporters, the deceased, who was in the department of Mathematics and Statistics, was murdered in her room in a private hostel off Polytechnic Road in Ogwashi-Uku.

According to one of her co-students in the hostel who spoke with SaharaReporters, the man, whose name has yet to be ascertained, had spent the previous night in the room of the deceased, and had stolen her ATM card.

"After her cultist lover had left the following day she received an alert of a N100,000 deduction from her bank account where she discovered her ATM card was missing. Not comfortable with the development, she went straight to her bathroom to take her bath. Immediately after that, she received another alert of N45,000 making it N145,000 that was [withdrawn] from her account by the unknown person.

Before leaving for the bank, she complained to us [about] the strange development. Again, on her return from the bank where she went to complain, she told us the bank assured her that the culprit could only be known and arrested after going through their CCDC camera. She was told to go home and report back the following [day] before meeting her untimely death," the co-student said.

SR reports that the source speculated that unknown to anyone in the hostel, the suspect sneaked into Julia's room and murdered her with a battle axe, locked the corpse inside the room and ran away with her keys.

"Not until the next morning when everybody became apprehensive of her whereabouts and we [had] to break her door where we saw her lifeless body with blood stains everywhere in the room. Immediately we raised the alarm and everybody in the area rushed down and the matter was reported to the Ogwashi-Uku Police Station," the source narrated

A source at the Ogwashi-Uku station who didn’t want to be identified confirmed the story, adding that the police and the bank are currently working around the clock to arrest the suspect, who is on the run.

SaharaReporters learned that the remains of the late Julia have since been buried in her home town.

Price of rice crashes to N8000 in Ebony state

A 50kg bag of rice is now selling for N8,000 in Ebonyi state, eastern Nigeria.This contrasts markedly with the over N20,000 price tag for imported rice.

The cheering news was reported by spokesman of Central Bank of Nigeria, Isaac Okoroafor in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state on Tuesday..

Okoroafor is the Acting Director, Corporate Communication, CBN.

He spoke at a sensitization workshop for the CBN Anchor programme for farmers.

“We should eat Nigerian rice provided for by the CBN Anchor Programme; 50 Kg of local rice is now N8, 000 in Ebonyi. Already, the Abia Government has ordered rice from Ebonyi for Christmas,”.

He said that the Anchor Borrowers Programme for the promotion of Agriculture will make the country begin exportation of rice by 2017.

“We must rid ourselves of eating foreign rice that has been stored for over nine years in Thailand, Vietnam and India. Nigerian rice is fresh and healthier.

He further said: “What we have done with this programme so far is to create jobs through farming, especially for the unemployed youths.

“Nigerian youths must wake up, dust themselves up and join this worthy campaign.," he added

Naira crashes further, sells at 480 to one dollar

The naira on Tuesday crashed to N480 against a U.S dollar. While it exchanged for N585 to a Pound, it traded N500 to the Euro.
Experts at the black market say the local currency will go further underground.
They pointed out that fall of the Naira to the foreign currencies was as a result of the recent raid of Bureau De Change operators in Lagos and Abuja by the EFCC and the DSS.

The crash has equally be blamed on the decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to cut the sales of dollar to BDCs by 46%.

Man who disguises as a female sex worker arrested (Photos)

A man who usually disguises as a female sex worker was arrested by police in Uganda after several men claimed that he took money from them under false pretenses.

He was described by most of the men as a beautiful woman who wore a wig, short skirt and make up.

The man, identified as Ivan Bebeto, who calls himself Queen, has been operating through East and Central Africa including Nairobi (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda), Bujumbura (Burundi) and (Tanzania).

“It is not easy to discover that he is a man because he knows how to groom himself to look persuasively woman-like,” said a victim.

He wears feminine perfume and when he goes clubbing, he hangs out predominantly with women, especially commercial sex workers.”

Bebeto was arrested after a man who was interested in him paid for sexual favours, believing she is a woman.

He kept giving the man excuses why he couldn’t sleep with him even though he had already received a down payment from the wealthy man.

Bebeto said he could not go to his house, claiming he felt more comfortable in his room, and thus asked the supposed customer to accompany him to a room where he kept his items.

It’s from this that the man suspected Babeto might be a criminal pretending to be a girl. He quickly informed the police who raided the apartment only to be shocked that he was a man and not a woman after questioning him.

Medellin airport, fell from the sky after suffering electrical problems.
Authorities have confirmed 76 people were killed.

Images show two footballers, Defender Alan Ruschel (right in the two pictures) and goalkeeper Danilo Padilha (next to Ruschel), posing for selfies during the journey from Brazil before the crash with Ruschel, 27, telling fans:

'We're coming Colombia'. Both Ruschel and Danilo were pulled alive from the wreckage but Danilo later died in hospital.

The jet split in two when it crashed in mountains shortly at around 10pm local time, shortly before it was due to land.

The hero pilot is reported to have opened a fuel door to release fuel and prevent a huge explosion in the seconds after the crash. Had the plane exploded then it is likely all onboard would have been killed. Five people survived however the pilot also died.

Ruschel - who suffered a broken hip and head injuries - was heard asking medics to look after his wedding ring as he arrived at hospital, local media reports.

Rector of Federal Poly, Bayelsa dies during sex romp with teenager

The Acting Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Bayelsa State, has slumped and died at a hotel in Ughelli during alleged sex romp with an unidentified female teenager.

The rector was said to have slumped at his hotel room in Zekoh Place located at Onoharigho street, Ughelli and was rushed to a private clinic, few kilometers from the hotel were he was confirmed dead on arrival.

“He had gone to the hotel in company of a female teenager and booked a room for an hour of love session with the girl,” a source at the Ughelli Area Command told Vanguard.

Speaking further, the source said:

“The girl raised an alarm when the chief slumped but absconded following reports that the victim was confirmed dead.“Though no arrest has been made in connection with the incident, a female manager of the hotel was arrested for questioning but has since been released.

”Suspecting foul play over the incident, a family member who spoke to Vanguard at the Rector’s Upper Agbarho residence said: “We are having a meeting with elders of the family if an autopsy would be conducted after which we would take a stand on the matter.”

Subscribers of the Global System of Mobile (GSM) telecommunications across the country would pay more for data with effect from December 1, 2016, The PUNCH learnt on Monday.

Although the telecoms companies declined to speak on the matter, top management workers across the networks confirmed the story to our correspondent, saying that the directive was from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a senior management employee of Etisalat Nigeria said,

“The NCC issued the directive late last week on the orders of the Federal Government. We have not announced it yet because most of the major telcos have been meeting the NCC on how to reverse this policy, because it will be too harsh for Nigerians.

“However, we further gathered that the Federal Government took the decision having discovered that data rates are very low-priced in Nigeria, compared to other countries, including nearby African countries.

“The government might have also taken the decision given that Nigerian subscribers have been kicking against the proposed nine per cent Communication Tax, whose bill is currently in the National Assembly.”

Executive Vice-Chairman, NCC, Prof. Umar Dambatta

Pleading not to be mentioned, an employee of MTN said,

“What this means is that MTN, Airtel, Etisalat And Globacom will increase their data rates as from December 1, 2016. A data plan of N1,000 for 1.5 Gigabytes will now be increased to N3,000 at N1,000 per 500 Megabytes.”

In text messages sent out to its subscribers, MTN, Africa’s mobile telecommunications giant, confirmed that it had agreed to implement the directive of the NCC.

The MTN text read, “Dear customer, please be informed that from 1st of December, some MTN data tariffs will be increased to reflect the new rates set by the NCC for operators. Thank you.”
The PUNCH could not obtain an official response from the NCC at of the time of filing this report.

However, a representative of the commission said that the telecoms regulator was unaware of such plans by the operators, even as she said her bosses had claimed ignorance of the circulated message.

“We are unaware of it. I just asked my bosses; they are unaware. We will forward your query to MTN for appropriate attention,” she said over the telephone.

However, in a letter by the NCC to the operators sighted by Punch, the commission stated,

“This rate will subsist pending the finalisation of the study on the determination of cost-based pricing for retail broadband and data services in Nigeria.

“All operators are to ensure that subscribers are not automatically migrated to pay-as-you-go platform.

“Also, note that effective date for the interim price floor is December 1, 2016.”

The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, NDGJM, has vowed to continue its attack on pipeline installations until the “last man alive.”

This is coming barely 48 hours after an attack on the 42-inch delivery pipeline line operated by Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC and Niger Delta Western, in Otu-Jeremi, Delta State, which the militant group claimed responsibility for.

In a statement signed by self-styled Gen. Aldo Agbalaja yesterday, the militant group warned the Federal Government to be wary of talks with some leaders of the Niger Delta region which are willing to enter negotiation with the government.

According to the group, “Be wary of these political jobbers, whose stock in trade has always been using the struggle to profiteer. We have severally indicated how to end this and definitely not through political jobbers and conflict merchants. If, and when we have reasons to trust anybody to hold discussions with, we shall, through this same medium, announce the process and the persons. This is a warning for the wise.”

NDGJM claimed its Akuma strike force attacked the NPDC pipeline at about 04.00 hours on Sunday, November 27, “to register our presence and jolt those probably slipping into delusion, back to reality.”

The statement reads, “In the last few weeks, we have been silent and observing. The period of silence was definitely not of inactivity. As a matter of fact, it was rather a strategy session, the fruits of which shall start showing up in the coming days.

“The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate has also observed the calculated psychological attack recently initiated by the Nigerian security forces against our people, believing that by pursuing and arresting our people, the struggle will be defeated and our resolve would be quelled.

“This will not work because what motivates us is stronger than the Nigerian kind of patriotism. Once again, we proclaim that we shall fight till the last man alive.”

UNN to use suicide note to investigate death of student

The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, has begun investigation into the death of a final year student of Agric Economics, Tobechukwu Okeke who recently committed suicide.

The sad news that the final year student allegedly hung himself to death, stirred up controversy on the social media on Monday after his dangling image from a ceiling went viral in the social media.

He allegedly took his own life over unpaid debt, in his residence in Odigwe – a few metres away from the school.

The Punch reports that a suicide note was recovered from his apartment and handed over to the Chief Security Officer of the institution and the school authorities are currently using the content of the note to unravel what actually led to his death.

The Dean of Students Affairs, UNN, Prof. Uju Umo, commenting on the incident, said, “He committed suicide and left a suicide note. Contact the university’s CSO.”
The CSO could not be reached as at press time.

Some friends of the deceased commented on the incident on the social media, saying he had invested some money he borrowed in a failed gambling and had hard times repaying his creditors.

A Twitter user, am_dannyb, who shared the photos, wrote: “This Is My Friend In Department Of Agric Economics That Helps Me Repair My Faulty Electrical Appliance For Free.

“He’s Good In Fixing Electrical Appliances & Wiring Despite Studying Agric. He Shared His Dream Of Going Into Building Wiring And Other Electricity Related Stuff As A Career.
“How Could My Own Nigga Do This To Himself ?? Am Weeping Literally.”

But some other users have clearly stated that suicide was not the solution to problems.

Women bath 9-year-old girl with acid, use her to beg for alms in Lagos

Two women, identified simply as Mrs. Amadi and Mama Esther, have been arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly abusing a 9-year-old girl, Joy Esemonu, in order to use her to beg for alms.

They were said to have bathed Esemonu in acid which made her sustain injuries in different parts of her body.

They led her every day to a pedestrian bridge in the FESTAC area of the state where she was made to beg for alms from passersby and at the end of every begging trip, which yielded N5, 000 to N6, 000 daily, the suspects reportedly shared the money.

The Punch is reporting that luck ran out on them after a Good Samaritan observed the victim’s condition on the bridge.

She was said to have alerted policemen from the FESTAC division which led to the arrest of the two suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO SP Dolapo Badmos, confirming the incident said, “Investigation reveals that it is their stock in trade.”

The PPRO noted that the matter was subsequently referred to the Office of the Public Defender, which transferred the victim to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters, NAPTIP.

Commenting on the incident, the NAPTIP Lagos zonal coordinator, Mr. Joseph Famakin, said “The girl was brought to us last Friday and she is going through some psychological counseling and treatment. We are also investigating if there are other people involved in the crime.

“The two suspects are with the police,” Famakin said, condemning the action of the women, saying the state would ensure that justice was served.

FRSC to raise fees for driver’s licence, number plate

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, yesterday stated that the N6,000 spent to procure a driver’s licence and N12,000 for vehicle plate number is too poor, as the agency is spending so much to produce them. It went on to reveal plans to increase the amount.

The Corps Marshall of the agency, Boboye Oyeyemi, stated this yesterday at the 136th meeting of the Joint Tax Board, JTB, held in Abuja, where he cried out to the board to facilitate the payment of over N700 million owed it by various states in the country.

He also said the commission was tinkering with the idea of increasing the cost of procuring the driver’s licence and vehicle plate number, stressing that the current rate of N6,000 and N12,000 for both items respectively, was no longer sustainable judging from the hike in operational cost.

Oyeyemi said the debt was crippling its operations nationwide, adding that its running cost keeps swelling as many states have failed to supply generators to the FRSC offices where vehicle plate number plates and drivers licence are procured.

He however lauded some states like Anambra and Delta for offsetting their debt, even as he urged others to emulate them.

“FRSC is owed N700 million. I’ve written to the JTB. We need this money badly because it’s hurting our operations. Some states have credit balance of millions. We offer credit facilities but paying for service rendered is now very key. I hope the JTB intervenes,” he said.

Speaking on the plate number and driver’s licence, the Corps Marshall disclosed that the FRSC was spending much more to produce the two items due to recession, a development that is forcing the commission to push for an increase in the cost of procuring them.

“N6,000 to get a driver’s licence and N12,000 for vehicle plate number is too poor. We are spending so much to produce them. I’m running over 200 in stations across the country. I shouldn’t be providing that. The states should.

“When I came in last year, the popular Mikano generator was N1.5 million, now it’s N3.8 million. Only Kwara State provided a generator. Majority of the states defaulted in providing that. All states should have secured offices. They should own these stations and I want to relocate workstations there. I want to stamp out corruption. Enough is enough.

“So, for us, our running costs is too high and the states should help us. We can be collecting N1,000 on every plate number and N500 on every licence as commission. That will help us a great deal,” he added.

Plane carrying Brazilian team crashes in Colombia, many feared dead

A plane carrying more than 80 people, 72 passengers and nine crew including members of the Brazilian football team Chapecoense, has crashed in Colombia.

Many are feared dead with early unconfirmed reports saying just 6 people survived.

According to GuardianUK, the plane – a British Aerospace 146 short-haul plane pictured above– started its journey in Sao Paulo, Brazil, at 3.35pm in the afternoon local time. It made a stop in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, a bustling economic hub in eastern Bolivia, later that day before setting off for Colombia.

The José Maria Córdova airport statement said that at 10pm, an aeroplane travelling from Santa Cruz declared an emergency because of electrical failures between the municipalities of la Ceja and la
Unión.

At the moment we know that the disaster happened in Cerro Gordo the municipality of La Unión and that there were 72 passengers and nine crew aboard, including the football team Chapocoense Real. There are reported to be six survivors.”

Local media in Colombia reported that the plane was flying as low as 150 feet before the accident.

According to the local news site mioriente.com, La Unión’s fire chief has said that at least 10 people were being tended to at the accident site. A state of emergency has been declared in the area and two Colombian airforce helicopters have begun searching for more survivors.

Seminarian due for ordination crushed to death in Anambra State - PHOTOS

The 'seminarian' whose name wasn't mentioned, according to the report was supposed to be ordained as a deacon/priest next week Friday.

Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka has hailed the arrest of some Judges in the country as a welcome development.
Vanguard reports that the Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry, Emene, Enugu, stated this at the Thanksgiving Mass to mark the Enugu State Judiciary 2016/2017 legal year at the Adoration Ground.

Mbaka described the Judges’ arrest as a supernatural revolution, but insisted that not all Judges were corrupt.
“The arrest of the judges is a supernatural brand new revolution that is going on in all dimensions, in all the three arms of government,” the vocal Catholic Priest said.

“When a revolution starts, you cannot imagine where it would reach.
“I urge judges to remain incorruptible or be arrested and whoever arrests them should be praised”, he added.

NYSC asks for subsidized feeding - Recession

The Enugu State Command of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has asked the state government to subsidize the feeding of the Corps members, because of the increase in their population.

This plea was made by Mrs. Nwano Ukagha, who is the Enugu State Coordinator of the NYSC, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2016 Batch B Corps members at the State Orientation Camp in Awgu, Enugu State on Monday.

Ukagha said that despite all the support the state had been giving to them, it was constrained to solicit for more, especially in the provision of facilities in camp.

Some of the Corps members deployed to the state, told Vanguard that except for inadequate water supply, other facilities as hostel, electricity and social services were in fair supply.

The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uchenna Eze, who represented Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the ceremony said: “I wish remind you of the importance of the NYSC programme and the need to be committed to the realization of its objectives. In order to make success of this assignment, you must be dedicated, focused and ready to apply yourselves to the activities of the orientation course.”

A total of 2,169 Corps members were registered in the camp, comprising 1,201 males and 968 females.

N4.7bn fraud: Obanikoro to ‘testify’ against Fayose – EFCC

Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has agreed to testify against Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and his aide, Mr. Abiodun Agbele, in the case of N4.7billion fraud.

Punch reports that a source at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), disclosed that Obanikoro said this when he visited the anti-graft agency’s office in Abuja.

“Senator Obanikoro came to the EFCC office on Monday morning as part of investigations into the N4.7bn. Since he has confessed that he was the one who collected the N4.7bn and distributed it, he is in the best position to testify in court.

“The EFCC wants him to testify against Agbele which will also build a strong case against Fayose who currently enjoys immunity. Obanikoro has agreed and will be listed as one of the EFCC witnesses.

“If Agbele is convicted, it automatically means that Fayose will also be convicted once he is charged in 2018. So let Fayose continue to play games. Omisore and Obanikoro are cooperating and returning money. Their troubles will end soon while Fayose’s own will keep getting worse.”

AWCON 2016: Buhari sends message to Falcons ahead of semi-final against South Africa

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a goodwill message to the senior women national team, as they prepare to take on South Africa in a semi-final clash at the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

The Super Falcons finished top of Group B with seven points, while South Africa came second behind hosts Cameroon in Group A with four points.

It will be the fourth time Nigeria and South Africa will face each other in the semi-finals of the AWCON. The Falcons have won twice and lost one of the games.

On Monday night, Buhari took to his official Twitter handle, to praise Florence Omagbemi’s team for their performances so far and wish them the best against Bayana Bayana.

He wrote: “Congratulations to our Super Falcons on their fantastic performance in the AWCON 2016. We’re proud of you, and wish you all the best tomorrow!”

At least four people were confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Umuahia, Abia State following a multiple auto crash that occurred along Ubakala axis of the Enugu/ Port- Harcourt express way.

It was gathered that four vehicles were involved in the crash, including a Toyota Hilux van with registration number CG 539RSH, a Peugeot J5 bus with registration No XA 874 AKW, and a Mercedes Benz tipper with registration no EGG 555 YG.

One of the victims, who was identified as Abdulhamid Abubakar disclosed that over speeding on the side of the Hilux van driver caused the accident.

According to him, they were four in a Peugeot J5 bus traveling from Lafia, Nasarawa to Aba to sell bags of garden eggs and oranges.

He said he was in the Peugeot with 3 of his friends, Husaini Tanko, Imamu Abubakar and Ibrahim Abubakar.

Isidro Zarate had just watched his wife walk into a Walmart in northwest San Antonio when a fight caught his attention.
A man and woman were arguing in the parking lot crowded with Black Friday shoppers about 4 p.m. The man had grabbed the woman by the hair and was beating her.

So Zarate pulled his car up to the couple and told the man, “Take your hands off her,” according to police.
The man did, police say, but only to reach for his gun.

“All [Zarate] did was verbally say, ‘Take your hands off her,’ ” San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told reporters at the scene. “At that point, the assailant pulled a firearm and started shooting.”

One shot hit Zarate in the neck, killing him. He died in the parking lot. He was 39.
A woman riding in the car with him was hit by shrapnel or flying glass, police said, and was injured.
A stray bullet also flew through the Walmart parking lot, wounding a third woman who “wasn’t involved at all,” McManus said. Both women are expected to recover.

Police identified the suspect as Teles Mandan Juarez, 21.
Juarez sped away from the scene but was pursued by the police department’s helicopter. Police arrested him about 10 miles from the Walmart.

He was charged with aggravated assault and retaliation, both felonies. He could also face a murder charge.
Meanwhile, Zarate’s wife, Lisa Benavides, was oblivious to what was going on outside the crowded store.
Her mother had wanted to go to San Antonio’s annual public lighting of the River Walk for the holidays. But Benavides wanted to get a new outfit for the occasion, so they braved Black Friday crowds to make a Walmart run.

She promised to hurry as her husband circled the packed parking lot.
She quickly found an outfit, raced through the self-checkout “because it was fastest,” and stood at the curb with her bag. She waited in the parking lot for the family’s Toyota Camry to pull up.
Instead, she saw police cars.

Curious, she inched closer to the police tape, but officers and their vehicles obscured her view.
“I asked a man standing nearby what happened and they said someone got shot,” she said. “I asked if that was a Toyota Camry and when the cars moved, the man could see and he said ‘yes.’

“I knew right then it was my car. I started running. And I went underneath the line and they said, ‘You can’t go back there,’ and one of the cops grabbed me and said, “Who are you?’ ”
“I said ‘That’s my husband.’ ”

Through tears on Sunday morning, Benavides told The Washington Post that she was shocked by the outburst of violence that took her husband’s life, but not surprised that his final act was to help someone.
She recalled a Teddy bear of a man who was quick to give spare change or leftover food to homeless people.

They’d both grown up poor, and empathized with people who were struggling.
Zarate was a childhood friend of Benavides’s brother. For years, he harbored a crush on the woman who would become his wife, but she’d tell him, “Get out of my house and stop eating my food.”

She was won over by his kindness, especially by the way he was protective of her when she was a new mother and her relationship with her baby’s father fizzled.

“He raised my oldest son since he was 8 months old,” she said. “He raised him like his own, even though [the child’s] father wasn’t in the picture.”

They went on to have three more boys. Their sons are now 17, 19, 20 and 23.
Zarate was the jokester in their family — a storyteller prone to spin a tale when only a “yes” or a “no” was required. She always told him to get to the point. He needled her about taking too long at the store.
Beneath it all, he encouraged his family to be kind.

“He’s always been like that,” Benavides said. “Even though people treat you mean, he said you’ve always got to be nice. And he always said you’ve got to help people in the long run. It’s going to all come back to you.”

The family is planning a funeral for Zarate, and has set up a GoFundMe page to cover expenses. The fund was nearing its $20,000 goal Sunday afternoon.

For Benavides, her husband’s funeral will be the first big thing she has undertaken on her own in 22 years.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do without him because we were together 24/7,” she said, crying. “We’ve always been together. I can’t believe he’s gone.
