* Signup at DriveHQ.com for free. You get a storage account with type as "FREE account" (which won't be enough),

* Then create a FREE-Private-Secure email account at HUSHMAIL.COM or other similar sites and use that as your default mail ID in DriveHQ site. [Alternatively, you can use your own private domain mail id, provided by your company or whatever, if you have one..]

Auto Kill Any Process

Auto Kill Any Process is a very basic and simple "Hit List" based batch process terminator.

When you want to quickly terminate a set of processes after working with any application (OR) you want to kill a few processes that somehow keeps launching at startups (OR) you want to quickly terminate any Non Responding process, then simply execute Auto Kill Any Process and quickly terminate the selected processes.

"Auto Kill Any Process" is a very basic and simple utility, designed so that you can create a HIT LIST (both through a User Interface [or] through a text file), with the process names that you want to terminate often, and thereafter, simply double click the application icon to terminate these processes without any further clicking.

The Hit List is configured just once until YOU decide to change it again, and after that, there are no windows to see, buttons to click or any other hassles.. just double click the icon to execute an "Auto Kill" of those processes. You can also add the application to windows startup so that even that is taken care of.

Perhaps the most famous Solvay conference was the October 1927 Fifth Solvay International Conference on Electrons and Photons, where the world's most notable physicists met to discuss the newly formulated quantum theory.

The leading figures were Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr. Einstein, disenchanted with Heisenberg's "Uncertainty Principle," remarked "God does not play dice." Bohr replied, "Einstein, stop telling God what to do."

Seventeen of the twenty-nine attendees were or became Nobel Prize winners, including Marie Curie, who alone among them, had won Nobel Prizes in two separate scientific disciplines.

Given below, are minor details about these major scientists.

Auguste Antoine Piccard (January 28, 1884 – March 24, 1962) was a Swiss physicist, With the experience of FNRS-2 Piccard and his son Jacques built the improved Bathyscaphe Trieste.

Émile Henriot (July 2, 1885 - February 1, 1961) was a French chemist notable for being the first to show definitely that potassium and rubidium are naturally radioactive.

Paul Ehrenfest (January 18, 1880 – September 25, 1933) was an Austrian physicist and mathematician, He made major contributions to the field of statistical mechanics and its relations with quantum mechanics, including the theory of phase transition and the Ehrenfest theorem.

Edouard Herzen (sorry couldn't get much about him, if you know a good source, let me know i will put it up here..)

Theophile Ernest de Donder [1872 – 1957] was a Belgian thermodynamicist, mathematician, and physicist famous for his 1923 work in developing correlations between the Newtonian concept of chemical affinity and the Gibbsian concept of free energy.

Erwin Rudolf Josef Alexander Schrödinger (August 12, 1887 – January 4, 1961) was an Austrian - Irish physicist who achieved fame for his contributions to quantum mechanics, especially the Schrödinger equation, for which he received the Nobel Prize in 1933.

Jules-Émile Verschaffelt (27 January 1870, Ghent – 22 December 1955) was a Belgian physicist. He worked at Kamerlingh Onnes’s laboratory in Leiden. For many years he also served as a science secretary for the Institut International de Physique Solvay. This required thorough knowledge of French, German and English, and brought him a huge amount of work.

Wolfgang Ernst Pauli (April 25, 1900 – December 15, 1958) was an Austrian theoretical physicist noted for his work on spin theory, and for the discovery of the exclusion principle underpinning the structure of matter and the whole of chemistry.In 1945, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "decisive contribution through his discovery in 1925 of a new law of Nature, the Exclusion principle or Pauli principle." He was nominated for the prize by Einstein.

Werner Karl Heisenberg (December 5, 1901 – February 1, 1976) was a celebrated German physicist and Nobel laureate. He is most well-known for discovering one of the central principles of modern physics, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, and for the development of quantum mechanics, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1932.

Sir Ralph Howard Fowler (January 17, 1889 – July 28, 1944) was a British physicist and astronomer. Fifteen Fellows of the Royal Society and three Nobel Laureates were supervised by Fowler between 1922 and 1939. He worked as Hill's second in command working with the Experimental Department of HMS Excellent on Whale Island and made a major contribution on the aerodynamics of spinning shells for which he was awarded the OBE in 1918.

Léon Nicolas Brillouin (August 7, 1889 – December 1969) was a French physicist. Brillouin was a founder of modern solid state physics for which he discovered, among other things, Brillouin zones. He applied information theory to physics and the design of computers and coined the concept of Negentropy to demonstrate the similarity between entropy and information.

Petrus Josephus Wilhelmus Debije (March 24, 1884 – November 2, 1966) was a Dutch physicist and physical chemist. He later legally changed his name to Peter Joseph William Debye. His first major scientific contribution was the application of the concept of dipole moment to the charge distribution in asymmetric molecules in 1912, molecular dipole moments are measured in debyes, a unit named in his honor. In 1936, Debye was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his contributions to the study of molecular structure".

Martin Hans Christian Knudsen (February 15, 1871 - May 27, 1949) was a Danish physicist, known for his study of molecular gas flow and the development of the Knudsen cell, which is a primary component of molecular beam epitaxy systems. Knudsen was also renowned for his work on kinetic-molecular theory and low-pressure phenomena in gases. Knudsen was also very active in physical oceanography, developing methods of defining properties of seawater.

Sir William Lawrence Bragg (31, March 1890 – 1, July 1971) was an Australian physicist. His father, William Henry Bragg, was Professor of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Adelaide. Bragg is most famous for his law on the diffraction of X-rays by crystals. Bragg's law makes it possible to calculate the positions of the atoms within a crystal from the way in which an X-ray beam is diffracted by the crystal lattice. In 1915, Bragg received the Nobel Prize in Physics, aged 25, making him the youngest ever winner of a Nobel Prize. He was knighted in 1941.

Hendrik Anthony Kramers (February 2, 1894 – April 24, 1952) was a Dutch physicist, who was generally known by the first name Hans. Bohr took him on as a PhD student and Hans prepared his dissertation under Bohr's direction. Kramers was one of the founders of the Mathematisch Centrum in Amsterdam. He won the Lorentz Medal in 1947 and Hughes Medal in 1951.

Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac (August 8, 1902 – October 20, 1984) was a British theoretical physicist. Dirac made fundamental contributions to the early development of both quantum mechanics and quantum electrodynamics. Among other discoveries, he formulated the so-called Dirac equation, which describes the behavior of fermions and which led to the prediction of the existence of antimatter. Dirac shared the Nobel Prize in physics for 1933 with Erwin Schrödinger, "for the discovery of new productive forms of atomic theory."

Arthur Holly Compton (September 10, 1892 – March 15, 1962) was an American physicist and Nobel laureate in physics for his discovery of the Compton effect. Immediately after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Compton gained support for consolidating plutonium research at the University of Chicago and for an ambitious schedule that called for producing the first atomic bomb in January 1945, a goal that was missed by only six months.

Louis-Victor-Pierre-Raymond, 7th duc de Broglie (August 15, 1892 – March 19, 1987) was a French physicist and a Nobel laureate. De Broglie created a new field in physics, the "wave mechanics," uniting the physics of light and matter. For this he won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1929. Among the applications of this work has been the development of electron microscopes to get much better image resolution than optical ones, because of shorter wavelengths of electrons compared with photon.

Max Born (December 11, 1882 – January 5, 1970) was a Polish physicist and mathematician who was instrumental in the development of quantum mechanics. He also made contributions to solid-state physics and optics and supervised the work of a number of notable physicists in the 1920s and 30s. Born won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Niels Henrik David Bohr (October 7, 1885 – November 18, 1962) was a Danish physicist who made fundamental contributions to understanding atomic structure and quantum mechanics, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922. He was also part of the team of physicists working on the Manhattan Project. Bohr has been described as one of the most influential physicists of the 20th century.

Irving Langmuir (January 31, 1881 – August 16, 1957) was an American chemist and physicist. His most noted publication was the famous 1919 article "The Arrangement of Electrons in Atoms and Molecules". While at G.E., from 1909-1950, Langmuir advanced several basic fields of physics and chemistry, invented the gas-filled incandescent lamp, the hydrogen welding technique, and was awarded the 1932 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work in surface chemistry. She was a pioneer in the field of radioactivity, the only person honored with Nobel Prizes in two different sciences, and the first female professor at the University of Paris.

Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect." Einstein's many contributions to physics include his special theory of relativity, which reconciled mechanics with electromagnetism, and his general theory of relativity, which extended the principle of relativity to non-uniform motion, creating a new theory of gravitation.

Paul Langevin (January 23, 1872 – December 19, 1946) was a prominent French physicist who developed Langevin dynamics and the Langevin equation. Langevin is noted for his work on paramagnetism and diamagnetism, and devised the modern interpretation of this phenomenon in terms of electric charges of electrons within atoms. His most famous work was in the use of ultrasound using Pierre Curie's piezoelectric effect.

Charles-Eugène Guye (October 15, 1866 - July 15, 1942) was a Swiss physicist. His research priorities were in the field of electrical currents, magnetic, gas discharges, etc. He succeeded the experimental proof of the special theory of relativity predicted dependence of the electron mass of the speed (Lorentz-Einstein prediction).

Charles Thomson Rees Wilson (February 14, 1869 – November 15, 1959) was a Scottish physicist and meteorologist. He worked for some time at the observatory on Ben Nevis, where he made observations of cloud formation. He then tried to reproduce this effect on a smaller scale in the laboratory in Cambridge, expanding humid air within a sealed container. He later experimented with the creation of cloud trails in his chamber caused by ions and radiation. For the invention of the cloud chamber he received the Nobel Prize in 1927.

Sir Owen Willans Richardson (April 26, 1879 - February 15, 1959) was a British physicist, professor at Princeton University from 1906 to 1913, and a Nobel laureate in physics for his work on the thermionic phenomenon and discovery of Thermionic emissions leading to Richardson's Law. He also researched the photoelectric effect, the gyromagnetic effect, the emission of electrons by chemical reactions, soft X-rays, and the spectrum of hydrogen. He was knighted in 1939. He died in 1959 aged 79.

Orkut Scraps - Security

Hi Everyone!! If you use Orkut, then this post is meant for you!!

The Situation:
If you are a regular Orkut user with a lot of friends, I am sure that you would received at least a dozen SCRAPS from your friends, asking you to, copy-paste some innocent looking javascript code into your browser's address bar to see something fancy, or, to click on a link that will take you to some funny website, or, to view some (embedded/linked)videos that they claim to be interesting... And many more variants of the above mentioned stuff.

Nowadays, while some of these things are really sent by your friends, most of these scraps are sent automatically without your friend's knowledge, because, they did some stupid act of meddling with some scripts that compromises their security...

This problem is causing a really big headache, not only to the person who risks themselves by falling for these tricks, but also to their FRIENDS, who believe that the automated scraps are really from their beloved friend and thus causing a chain reaction in some cases.

The Solution:
How to put a stop to this nonsense then? this is where my very simple idea comes into action.. be warned this is not an exhaustive security measure of any kind, but rather a very simple preventive measure and solely depends on the user co-operation to work efficiently..

"If you can determine whether the scrap you received is really sent by your 'trustworthy' friend, then you have no security risk at all.."
So all you have to do is attach a UNIQUE signature.. (it can be your name or a tagline or some random strings/numbers etc that is known to both parties...) and ask your friends to do the same, ONLY WHEN forwarding scraps with suspicious-links/scripts/videos among yourselves..

This way, you can be sure that the content is REALLY sent by your friend and not some automated system.. but of course, a very important point to be noted here is that, YOUR FRIEND MUST VERIFY THAT THE CONTENTS OF THEIR SCRAPS ARE SAFE (if they desperately want to forward something to you, then they won't mind doing this ;-)

Suggestions:
And just to make the signatures more standard yet unique, you can try combining the first two letters of both, your own profile name, and the friend to whom you are scrapping to..(it should be easy to just copy-paste it..)

So what do you think? Is this method worth trying?? will our orkut friends agree to follow it until Google steps in with some security measure?!?!?!?
Any sort of additions/corrections/suggestions/entirely different ideas of your own/queries or even flames claiming this is a stupid idea are welcome!!

Bux To : A site that might actually pay!

I was never a big fan of PTC sites/Earn easy money online sites in my online life, because more than 95% of such sites found in the internet are scams/frauds/pyramid schemes/cheats and anything except genuine.. And i am saying this because, i myself have signed up for several of these sites to check them. So far the only site i trust 100% for online earning is Google Adsense(and this is mainly because its a Google product..). So obviously i don't argue for any PTC site's authenticity..

but recently i came across PTC site called Bux.to and i am really impressed with them.

Even though i can't show any proof of payment to me from them, there are some good points in their favour they are,
1) McAfee SiteAdvisor(view site report for Bux.to) - I trust SiteAdvisor a lot.. but i trust its users even more.. and users with reputation score of 7 out of 9 giving a green rating to a site means a lot..
2) No Pyramid Schemes - YOU refer any number of Members and you get a share from their earnings and THEIR earnings ONLY. no first level, second level crap..
3) Neat method to earn - Click link. View site for exactly 30 seconds/site. Earn money. no signups/trials/offer completion/spam etc...
4) Low Minimum Payout limit - Earn $10, get payout and can request for it any day. No need to wait and slog till you earn a 100 dollars or so, by which time, you would be frustrated without payment and left, thus leaving all revenue u generated to the PTC site alone.
5) You CANNOT GET RICH QUICK here for free, in Bux.to, but with just enough referrals, you can earn a decent amount of money(if u purchase referrals, you may get lot of money, but there is no convincing proof that I CAN CONSIDER for now.)

Now that we have taken care of testing the level of security, provided by both your Anti-Virus and your Anti-Spyware , we will move on to your browser... And see how secure your browser is and determine if it is CRASH proof...

Now to do that, you will have to go to this test site.
Once there, make sure you follow their instructions carefully as the sole purpose of the site is to crash your browser! and thus determine if it is secure enough.

"Careful! The test will try to crash your browser! Close all other browser windows before starting and bookmark this page. If your browser crashes during the test, restart it and return to this page. It will show which vulnerability crashed your browser and offer you to continue the test or view the results."

As it says don't forget to bookmark the site before starting the test, because you won't know what caused the problem then....

And once again i am glad to inform that my Firefox came out in flying colors in this test, BUT my IE6 didn't!!!!! according to the site, i had an older version of Adobe Flash Viewer so it exploited a flaw in it and caused it to crash..

So i guess taking this test would make it easier for you to understand the security level offered by your browser.

In the previous post, I was talking about, how to test your Anti-virus softwares effectiveness against detecting VIRUSES and removing them.

In this post, we are going to check how good your Anti-virus software is against SPYWARE and if it can detect and remove them.
This is also applicable to special Anti-Spyware software as well..

This is done by "SPYCAR".
These are based on ideas similar to "eicar" and are safe to try out..

So what is SPYCAR?

Download the dummy virus file (.zip) given below and try to extract the ".exe" file in it.. your anti-virus software's "on-access scanner" or "guard" or "resident protection" or whatever it is, should pick it up. Then you can know that you have a good working AV software..

Microsoft has recently publicized its new research project, Microsoft Surface otherwise known as Coffee table(?!?)....

what's so special about it? check out the video below....

MS Surface is a new Multi-Touch Surface Computer, means it has a touch sensitive screen that looks like a coffee-table and the device itself is laden with Infrared and other wireless options. Unlike other touch screen devices(spare the iPhone..), this one supports multiple touch, so not only can you use more than a finger, but also many users can work on it simultaneously(cool huh?)..

The best part of this device that i like is the wireless integration...
Traditional PCs require a USB cable or have to undergo a painful wireless transfer process to transfer contents from their mobile devices like cell phones, PDAs etc...

But in Surface all you have to do is put it on the table(screen) and once it registers the device, you literally swing around your photos and files to and fro.. Viola!! no mouse, no keyboard, nothing!!!

Here's a look at the inside of MS Surface...

(1) Screen: A diffuser turns the Surface's acrylic tabletop into a large horizontal "multitouch" screen, capable of processing multiple inputs from multiple users. The Surface can also recognize objects by their shapes or by reading coded "domino" tags.

(2) Infrared: Surface's "machine vision" operates in the near-infrared spectrum, using an 850-nanometer-wavelength LED light source aimed at the screen. When objects touch the tabletop, the light reflects back and is picked up by multiple infrared cameras with a net resolution of 1280 x 960.

(3) CPU: Surface uses many of the same components found in everyday desktop computers — a Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 256MB graphics card. Wireless communication with devices on the surface is handled using WiFi and Bluetooth antennas (future versions may incorporate RFID or Near Field Communications). The underlying operating system is a modified version of Microsoft Vista.

(4) Projector: Microsoft's Surface uses the same DLP light engine found in many rear-projection HDTVs. The footprint of the visible light screen, at 1024 x 768 pixels, is actually smaller than the invisible overlapping infrared projection to allow for better recognition at the edges of the screen.

But there is still one thing to be worried about.. and it's the fact that this is a Microsoft Product.. Yup. You guessed it, it would surely have its own set of trademark Microsoft flaws. And all that you see in the video is not as is.. For example the Wi-Fi integration i was talking about earlier?? it requires you to tag ur mobile device with some bar-code thingy.. and certain other technicalities.. So we can only hope that, for once Microsoft takes care of all such things and gives us a product that we can enjoy with, instead of cursing at them..

this device is priced at around $5000 to $10,000 and as of now would be available only to commercial establishments such as Hotels and other public places... and would be available for households in around 3 to 4 years...

All that i've done so far in my blog are these..
Putting up a few widgets.. Posting around 4 articles... and linking it up to some popular bookmarking sites..

and then while browsing i came across this site, which shows me my blog's worth.. i thought ok maybe i will give it a try and did so... guess what it shows.... my blog is worth around a $6,000,000!!!!!!!!!(pictured below..)

Now, wait a minute.. how can a relatively new blog be worth so much??
well... if u do some tweaking, u can fix ur own blog value ;-)
this is what happened..

This tool(whoever designed it..) used some Links to Dollars ratio to calculate a blog's worth(rite now i don't know the exact way this is done..)

The big mistake they did was, while giving the user a button to display their blog's worth in their site, they gave it away as a static one instead of a dynamic one(means it won't get updated as you improve your blog..) and they actually embedded the $$ value in the HTML code for the button itself....

As a result i was able to change it easily to my own wish... and that's how my blog's value became $6,000,000.

SUN is the acronym for Stanford University Network .

9) Linus Torvalds of Linux Operating System Linus Torvalds originally used the Minix OS
on his system which he replaced by his OS.

Hence the working name was Linux (Linus' Minix).
He thought the name to be too egotistical and planned to name it Freax (free + freak + x).

His friend Ari Lemmk encouraged Linus to upload it to a network so it could be easily downloaded.

Ari gave Linus a directory called linux on his FTP server, as he did not like the name Freax.

Linus like that directory name and he kept the name of his new OS to LINUX...

An Interesting Report from McAfee SiteAdvisor.....

Overview

In this study, we compare the safety of leading search engines, using McAfee SiteAdvisor’s automated Web site ratings. We find that AOL returns the safest search results, while Yahoo! returns the greatest percentage of risky results. Since May 2006, search engine results have become safer, primarily due to improved safety of sponsored results on Google, AOL, and Ask. Despite this improvement, dangerous sites are found in search results of all of the top five search engines, and sponsored results continue to be significantly less safe than search engines’ organic results.

Interesting Findings

Overall, 4.0% of search results link to risky Web sites, which marks an improvement from 5.0% in May 2006. Dangerous sites are found in search results of all 5 of the top US search engines (representing 93% of all search engine use).
The improvement in search engine safety is primarily due to safer sponsored results. The percentage of risky sites dropped from 8.5% in May 2006 to 6.9% in May 2007. However, sponsored results still contain 2.4 times as many risky sites as organic results.
AOL returns the safest results: 2.9 % of results rated red¹ or yellow² by McAfee SiteAdvisor. At 5.4%, Yahoo! returns the most results rated red or yellow.
Google, AOL, and Ask have become safer since May 2006, with Ask exhibiting the greatest improvement. The safety of search results on Yahoo! and MSN has declined.

1. “Red” rated sites failed McAfee SiteAdvisor’s safety tests. Examples are sites that distribute adware, send a high volume of spam, or make unauthorized changes to a user’s computer.

2. “Yellow” rated sites engage in practices that warrant important advisory information based on McAfee SiteAdvisor’s safety tests. Examples are sites which send a high volume of “non-spammy” e-mail, display many pop-up ads, or prompt a user to change browser settings.

Category Analysis
Keywords related to music and technology continue to be among the most dangerous search terms. Comparing the safety of Google Zeitgeist categories of search terms, the category “Digital Music” (which includes search terms “free music downloads”, “bittorrent”, and “itunes”) returns the highest percentage of risky sites at 19.1%. The category “To Do Online” (which includes online activity keywords such as “chat” and “wallpaper”) returns results which are 17.5% risky.

File sharing downloads are often bundled with adware and unwanted toolbars. Desktop downloads such as “screensavers” (42.0%) and “wallpapers” (31.1%) also topped the list of most dangerous keywords.

Searching for Adult Search Terms
Adult search terms are more than twice as dangerous as non-adult search terms, and searching for adult terms has become a riskier activity since our analysis in December 2006. The percentage of risky search sites found in adult keyword search results increased from 8.0% in December 2006 to 9.4% now. Higher percentages of risky search results for adult terms are found on Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and Ask, while AOL now returns a lower percentage of risky results for adult terms. The increased danger of adult search terms is primarily due to an increased percentage of risky sites within sponsored results for adult terms, which rose from 13.3% in December 2006 to 22.9% now.
In our tests, which maintain the default content filtering settings on each search engine, the riskiness of sponsored search results for adult terms varies greatly depending on the search engine. Searching for adult search terms, users are eight times more likely to encounter a risky sponsored site searching for adult terms on Yahoo! than on Ask. On Yahoo! sponsored results for adult terms are 29.3% risky compared to 3.7% on Ask.

So there you have it... next time when you search for something, keep these stats in mind..

So you need to be aware of such sites and prevent downloading from those sites... but its not possible to sort out good and bad sites isn't it?? Well, think again! coz, SiteAdvisor does just that. How wonderful it would be if someone helps you decide whether the site u r visiting is trustworthy or not(especially in the era of adware, spyware etc..)?
This simple add-on glows Green if a site is perfectly safe. Yellow if it is a bit untrustworthy or Red if the site is harmful to ur PC.
