Guess what!? The plot issue that I’ve affectionately named “Parker’s Plot Problem” has been solved! That means this story you’ve been reading six sentences a week is now on its way to being written!

What a relief. This book is one of my favorite works in progress, and the PPP was driving me crazy. Now maybe you won’t catch up to me! Okay, on with the story:

Brynn started her car, but sat behind the wheel for a moment. Six years of her life that she’d never get back, with the man who swore his undying love and fidelity. Six years of building a home with him, and it took less than two hours to pack it all up. Four suitcases piled in the back of her Escalade, two garment bags held her suits and gowns. The Howerton Hotel had a superb service. They would unpack and press her things once she settled in.

One less thing to worry about.

With one long sigh, Brynn left the restaurant and made her way to the hotel, her new home for the next week at least.

So it was Labor Day weekend, and I really wasn’t looking forward to a sixteen hour drive to the coast, but Brad promised that he’d do most of the driving. He also promised we’d stop at my favorite restaurant for lunch. And dinner. By midnight, I couldn’t stay awake, and I curled up in the passenger seat and fell asleep with our favorite band in the CD player, and watching Brad nod his head and tap the beat on the steering wheel.

I don’t know how long I was out, but when I woke up, we were on the side of the road. Brad was fast asleep in the driver’s seat. I stared. I couldn’t help it.  He’d taken off his shirt, and he looked so damn beautiful in the dim light of the rest stop lights. When looking wasn’t enough anymore, I reached over and as carefully as I could, released the buckle of his belt. When he didn’t stir, I started on his button fly. I leaned back to enjoy the view, and only then noticed that Brad wasn’t sleeping anymore.

Heather awoke from the best night’s sleep she could remember. It might have been the near lethal mix of Ibuprophen and Jose Cuervo. Still, she reached for her alarm clock to check the time. She fumbled around for a moment before realizing that her alarm clock wasn’t within reach. Whatever time it was, she could spare five more minutes. She rolled over, snuggled back beneath the scratchy blankets….scratchy? She peeled one eye open and came face to face with a man.

In her bed. No, not her bed. She was lying beneath a thick woolen blanket topped by a fur skin of some kind. She’d investigate that later. Right now her brain had somehow concocted the most delicious looking–she looked down–shirtless man for her dreaming enjoyment. She stared into the dark eyes of the still silent dream man, fascinated by the detail her brain could form. Long dark hair, angled eyebrows, and from the dip in the padding beneath them (she couldn’t really call it a mattress) this guy was big. What a weird dream. She reached out to touch him, to see how long she could keep the fantasy going, but from behind her, a thundering noise grew louder by the second. Her dream man’s eyes narrowed, and he was on his feet. What sounded like a hundred horses stopped right outside the flap of the tent…tent? She sat up, clutching the bedding to her chest, as her dream man faced the entrance, wearing nothing but a kilt and holding the most lethal-looking sword she’d ever seen.

“I need to get going too.” Brynn gathered her purse, and tucked a tip under her water glass. “I’ll wait for your email. After I look through it, I’ll give you a call.”

Susan nodded and squeezed out of the booth. “Call me if you need anything tonight after you talk to Jack. I’m free after six, even if you just want to go for a drink.”

Brynn held the front door for her friend. “I appreciate that. I’m actually looking forward to this.”

Susan flushed. “I wish I could be a fly on the wall tonight. On second thought, no I don’t. You know how I feel about confrontation.” She shuddered. “Take care Brynn.”

                Kurt stared at the ugly light fixture above his bed. He’d begged for weeks for a Spaceman Spiff bedroom, and he’d paid for it since he turned ten.

                “She told you we were staying in your old room.” Beth tugged on Kurt’s boxers, but he held tight onto the waistband. “I don’t know why you’re surprised.”

                “Stop it!” He grabbed both her wrists in his, and rolled her onto her back. “We can’t do anything here, my parents are right downstairs!”

                “I’ll be quiet.” She winked, and struggled to free herself.

                Kurt grinned. “You’re never quiet, baby. That’s what I love about you.”

                “Just let me play—”

                “No. I’ll get us a hotel.”

                “But I’ve always wanted a threesome with Spaceman Spiff.”

                Kurt growled from behind his smile, and pinned her to the bed. “You’re going to pay for that!”

                Beth squealed, but managed to free one hand long enough to yank his underwear to his knees. Kurt gave up fighting, as if he really wanted to resist her advances. “You win, but not a whisper out of you.” He kissed her succulent mouth.

                “Kurtis? Is everything okay? I heard a scream.”

                The knock on the door had Kurt on his feet in a flash, and he grabbed a sheet to wrap around his waist. “Yeah, Mom. Everything’s okay, Beth just saw a spider.”

                He scowled at his girlfriend, and picked up the phone. “We’re getting a hotel.”
