Eat Bulaga invaded Davao City. Everyone in South San Juan Davao City was excited to watch celebrities live and win big prizes. I lived in San Juan for almost 2 years but had to transfer so I was not able to witness the show and beside I am a Kapamilya.hehe.

Adele was I thought a worst performer. The first time I saw her on TV, I told myself "that fat woman is too ambitious to invade the music industry. The NERVE!"

Never heard of her music until one day I decided to hide myself from priorities and deadlines. With one cup of coffee, I accidentally browsed a video where the kids of the late Philippine king of rap Francis M sing in chorus while on their way to school or wherever.The song was Rolling in the Deep. I started to love the beat as it was so foreign for me.Something new to the ear.Then, I started searching who is the artist and I found "Adele".God forgive me.

Don't judge the book by its cover.

My judgement wasn't right.Although not all observations are right. From then on, I told again myself " This Big Fat British girl will surely hit the chart!".

This time, I was right. Adele has bagged the 6 grammy awards during the 54th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Here is the list of all the winners in every category:

A wrecked road in Negros after the earthquake

While following reports about the progress of the earthquake that jolted Cebu and Negros areas with magnitude 6.5 hours before this entry was posted, I was kinda disturbed of what Philvocs said over the national TV. " There are more unidentified fault lines in the Philippines"

The Philvocs officer revealed that Philippines has not yet possessed the sophisticated base mapping equipment that can detect blind faults.

Geologists [philvolcs] were surprised of what appeared to their reports after the killer earthquake hit the Visayas region. They have discovered one fault line after the quake and there will be more soon.

Stupid, isn't it?

All of my life, I believe we have the advanced tools making information technology updated especially to agencies that are responsible for the safety of this country Philvocs for example.

How many government agencies there existing with limited bullets and weak fortress? How many times should we fool ourselves telling to the masses that we are now equipped to be a globally competitive in all aspects? When will we be awaken from the long sleep in the bed of ignorance? When?

The justice system is dying. Corona? Don't ask me,he deserves to be crowned-- in hell.
Now, I am afraid that even Philvocs is losing the public trust.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day tsunami will hit Cebu again and Philvocs will just say " I am sorry we don't have the tool yet to detect this or to do that"

As per report,there were 13 casualties of the said quake. 13 promising people whose lives would have been brighter and maybe one of them has the brain to think of a solution of the crisis that we are facing now. Tsk tsk.

Meet the illusionist Kent Oliver Estrada

The international mentalist and illusionist, Kent Oliver Etrada shared his street magic skills as he performed face to face with the Safari Grill customers.

Kent is a homegrown talent of Davao, specifically in Lupon Davao Oriental, and a manila based magician. He is the first filipino to perform in Europe, Caribbean, Mediterranean, and in the middle east.

He was one of the country's greatest street magicians. In fact, he was cited as one of the 13 Young Achiever's Awardees in the Philippines last December 2007.

Kent Oliver is the first filipino who has successfully staged a magic show at Teatrino Theatre in Manila last August 2011.

He is now the chairman of the Membership Committee of the Inner Magic Club Philippines. Mr Estrada is a member of the INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF MAGICIAN RING 328, United States of America.

When KC guested in The Buzz and officially announced that she will be leaving the show, comments about her new hair cut became a popular talk in social networks.There is actually a big reason behind the new hair. The ROGUE, a men's magazine, featured celebrity on cover.

Her experience with Piolo Pascual, being the new celebrity victim of love, forced the UN ambassador to take a daring pose.

Why?

To let go of her 2011 heart-breaking experience? Or to prove to that boy, who is still keeping his self inside the closet, that KC has moved on? Bottomline, had it not been for that break-up, she would not venture to this pose. ( Pose na pagpyepyestahan ng kalalakihan).

It rains fish in Agusan del Sur

In my whole life, this is the weirdest report I have read.Here are some details I got from Philstar.

Residents of Agusan de Sur, southern part of Mindanao,Philippines were surprised after hearing heavy drops from their rooftop. They were more surprised when they discovered that fishes stuck on walls and fell on roofs

Fisheries officials described the 3-inch fish is like a mudfish with streaks of yellow and black on its belly.

"I was shocked to see some fishes on my roof and in the walls of my house," said village councilor Eliseo Ong, adding that " I went out and collected some of them which were still alive."

Lolit Binalay, an official of the state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or Pagasa, suspected a waterspout which formed after the downpour could have sucked the fishes from a river or swamp and dumped them into the community.

We are taking things easy today. We exert effort to feed ourlives. With our loved ones, we talk about good things in life. Our son asks us as to where will he take his college? Would we send him to a private school? Our daughter on the other hand, while eating the food we have just borrowed from the neighbors, insists that someday she would be an architect.

With the bright future our kids have, at the back of our mind, we tell ourselves to double our effort to make their dreams come true.As a mother and father, the only thing we ask for to the heavenly God,is all good for our children.

By and by, the youngest child come with a plate of noodles and say " Mama and Papa, I left some noodles for you. I know, you haven't taken your dinner". Tears start to flow from our weary eyes. We love our children so much. Despite of being poor, we do not let the realities of our life limit our dreams for our children. We promise to ourselves, as parents, to make them better person someday.

As the moon shines above while the cold breeze, through the dilapidated windows, embrace our bodies. But it's ok, our children would not feel it for we, as parents, will do anything to keep them warm. There is no better cloth than a hug with love.

With full of hopes to start life again for the next day, we all sleep well.

The next day...

Typhoon Sendong vanishes our dreams and hopes. Flashflood eradicates the future that would have been so bright for the twins and for the future doctor of Cagayan de Oro.

Let us help the victims of Typhoon Sendong. Every cent counts and more lives would probably extended. More hopes and dreams will be saved.

This time, it's HORROR.

I have been dreaming of making film , at least a short film, in horror genre. For the 6th film I have written and directed since I enter filmmaking, Overtime is my entry for the 7th Mindanao Film Festival 2011.A dream come true film.

Overtime (by Alvertus Films director: Alberto Egot Jr.)

A dedicated lady employee is haunted by a ghost while working overtime at the office; the ghostly phenomenon unmasks a tragic story of infidelity and misjudgment which alters the employee's life forever. The film is from another film fest habitue Albert Egot which has helmed works like Bad Jao,ChaCha,Hulagway and Facebroke.

I don't care of awards of whatever recognition. I care about the fact that I have proven to myself that I can really scare some audience through my imagination. Well, what you think is right. I am not that adept in terms of technicalities and I am not that good as others do in mainstream. What thing is for sure " I am going there na" lol.

The Road of "THE ROAD"

Director Yam Laranas has taken his way once again to another road of success in his filmmaking career. THE ROAD assures moviegoers a new definition of SCARY. A horror film that will give you a fresh sources of your fear.

I haven't really felt the presence of The Road's promotion on TV. Maybe because I am a Kapamilya so I don't have the chance to feel Yam Laranas. Thanks to HAPPY FEET 2. Because of 'Erik', I wouldn't be able to see The Road's poster in the theater house. Yeah, the poster failed my ass to buy ticket until I found out that it is directed by YL.

Positive reviews posted on social networks moved me to watch it. YL for the 4th time,after THE ECHO,PATIENT X, and SIGAW made me proud of him not just as filmmaker but also as an inspiration of indie filmmakers in Davao City.

Here's my Kiss and Kick about the film.

Indeed, The Road is treated with new approaches.Seen in different angles.The close-ups and the bumpy shots add the film's tension by letting the viewers imagine what's in below,behind and around? The characters are scared now but the shots are still close-up?That cinematography deserves a clap clap!

The blurring of the scene and the details from time to time is one of the film's new style. I assume the film is shot using DSLR.The depth-of-field is so heavy releasing the subject sharper and sometimes very soft.Using DSLR for movie making is the new world's filmmaking technique. I am just assuming, the film treated this way. Correct me if I am wrong. As a filmmaker myself using the same medium, I know the looks of SLR and a film. [just assuming].

The Kick is not that painful. I just don't like the idea that no one knows of the real 'Luis' past story except him and the ghosts. 'Ella' played by Barbie on the other hand, wasn't given justice.Her story was swallowed that fast by the left and right twists of the film. Well, maybe because YL really made it to create a perfect gruesomeness.

The road of THE ROAD is going to international. Yam Laranas mentioned one of his interviews that somebody is working now outside the country and he is just waiting for approval to release it.

Q: How long did it take you and GMA Films to produce this film?

LARANAS: “I began writing the story of “The Road” in 2005. It was completed just August last year. After that, we got the approval of GMA Films sometime in January this year and we immediately began pre-production. The actual shooting started in July.”

Q: What things did you consider in writing the film?

LARANAS: “Nung sinusulat namin ang pelikula, ang sinabi namin‘enough of the Asian horror.’ Not that there’s something wrong with the genre but because marami na kasing nakapanood ng mga pelikulang ganun. For me, with respect to the audience, kailangan magpakita naman tayo ng bago. Yung iba naman.”

Q: We have seen several good horror movies both foreign and local in the past, what sets “The Road” apart from these films?

LARANAS: “Nakakatuwa nga kasi meron kaming listahan ng mga eksenang hindi na dapat isama sa pelikula kasi gasgas na: yung mga tipong hinihila sa ilalim ng kama, yung may tatapik sa likod mo tapos paglingon mo kaibigan mo lang pala, etc. Sabi ko, ‘pag walang kinalaman sa istorya, wag na nating ilagay.’ Kasi yung audience –lalo na yung mga mahihilig sa horror – alam na nila lahat ‘yan e. Hindi mo sila mabobola. At feeling ko nakakahiya sa audience kung ang ipapakita mo sa kanila ay ang mga bagay na napanood na nila.”

Q: So, why ‘The Road’?

LARANAS: “I chose the title ‘The Road’ because it could mean a lot of things. Pwedeng papunta ka pa lang, pwede ring pabalik na. Sa kwentong ito, hindi alam ng mga characters sa pelikula kung pabalik na sila o papunta pa lang. And that adds to the mystery. Sa kwento ng pelikula, na-trap sila sa road for thirty years pero hindi nila alam kung ano ang nangyayari at kung bakit.”

Q: What were your bases in casting actors for the film?

LARANAS: “The first thing I asked for was a list of good actors, tapos base sa listahan na ‘yun namili ako. At dahil yung movie ay nangangailangan ng serious acting, pinili ko yung sa tingin ko ay mayroon talagang commitment. Lahat ng artista ko sa pelikula ay may commitment. Hindi lang sa project kundi sa mga character din nila.”

Q: This is the tweens’ first horror movie and their first film with you as the director, so how was it working with them?

LARANAS: “I think yung mga fans ng tweens lalong bibilib sa kanila kasi makikita nila na hindi lang sila marunong sumayaw o kumanta. Mas maa-appreciate nila ang acting ng mga tweens dahil napaka-convincing talaga.”

Q: We are used to seeing Alden Richards portray a role of a “boy-next-door” cutie, but in this film he portrays the character of an abductor and rapist. How hard a task was it to transform a good-looking heartthrob into an evil antagonist? (laughs)

LARANAS: “Si Alden has one of the most difficult roles sa pelikula kasi halos wala siyang speaking lines; halos dalawang sentences lang. Kaya kung ikaw ang artista, paano mo ilalabas ang emosyon mo kung wala kang sasabihin? Ang mga manonood ay, at one point, kikiligin kay Alden and at another matatakot sila and yet ginawa niya ito through pure acting; without the help of so much words. Hindi lang siya magaling, talagang committed pa siya sa role niya.”

Q: Rhian Ramos is one versatile talent. We’ve seen her do drama and comedy, and she’s a good host too, what more can we expect from her in ‘The Road’?

LARANAS: “Rhian will show everyone how great an actress she is in this film. She is very serious in portraying her character. So serious that pag merong moments na pinapaiyak siya, ang hirap niyang mapatigil. Rhian has proven that she is a very good actress and I think she’s going to stay long in this business. I have told her that several times in the past, akala niya nagbibiro lang ako o pinupuri ko lang siya para mas ganahan siyang umarte, but it’s really true.”

Q: Where is this ‘road’?

LARANAS: “Most of our sequences were shot in Teresa, Rizal. Ang ganda ganda ng location; very cinematic and it’s actually the first time that it was used as a location for a film.”

Q: Did you have goose bumps while shooting the film?

LARANAS: “Hindi naman. But at one point, some of crew members refuse to use the restroom on the upper floor of the house where we shot several sequences in. Pati yung mismong road ay nakakatakot din talaga. Kahit nga yung artista, pagkatapos nilang mag-shoot nagmamadali silang umalis. Pati nga yung crew nagtatakutan kasi madilim talaga. Kami lang kasi yung nandun e. ‘Pag pinatay mo yung ilaw, ang dilim dilim niya talaga dahil malayo siya sa mga kabahayan e. Yun pa lang nakakatakot na, and I think yun kaagad ang maeexperience ng audience.”

Q: Your last feature film, Sigaw, reaped international acclaim and was even released abroad. Do you think “The Road” will replicate or even surpass its success?

LARANAS: “I really hope so. May mga [film] festival na humihingi na ng copies. Nakakatuwa dahil trailer pa lang ng pelikula maugong na sa internet. May mga foreign buyer na rin na interested in releasing the movie in North America and Europe. Nagpapadala na kami ng screeners, kinakausap ko na yung mga festival organizer. Actually, ‘The Road’ is currently being evaluated by a big company in the States and hopefully, magustuhan nila at i-release nila.”

Q: What should moviegoers expect from this film?

LARANAS: “Maraming surprises na makikita ang audience sa mga cast ng pelikula. Yung tipong sasabihin nila na ‘Oh my God, ang galing pala nilang umarte.’ Pag nakita mo yung artistang hinahangaan mo TV at pag nakita mo siya sa pelikulang ‘The Road’,mapapansin mong meron silang ibang level sa pag-arte na hindi pa natin napapanood sa mga teleserye o movies na nagawa nila. At ako bilang direktor at bilang kasama nila sa trabaho ay natutuwa kasi nabigyan nila ng buhay yung script at yung kwento.”

Q: Why should horror fans watch “The Road”?

LARANAS: “The Road is a ghost story, that’s why it’s very real. Yung mga nakapanood na ng mga preview screenings namin isa lang ang sinasabi nila: ‘ayokong panoorin ‘tong mag-isa. We guarantee the audience that the ‘scare’ of the road is something new. Sana magustuhan nila, at sana panoorin nila.”

Q: After “The Road,” what kind of film would you want to do?

Manny Pacquiao over his 12 opponents

Manny Pacquiao was taken to the limit Saturday night before escaping with a majority decision win over Juan Manuel Marquez in their welterweight title fight.

Pacquiao won on two scorecards, while the third ringside judge had it a draw. It was a narrow escape for the Filipino congressman, who took as much punishment as he got over 12 rounds.

The third fight between the two was as close as the previous two, and by the time they finished 12 arounds the outcome was still in doubt. Pacquiao won some rounds with sheer agression, while Marquez won others with brilliant counterpunching, keeping Pacquiao from getting inside.

Marquez was a 7-1 underdog, but it was clear early he would be in this fight. He picked Pacquiao apart with right hands almost every time he tried to get inside, and landed good hard flurries throughout the fight.

Pacquiao was the aggressor throughout, and landed some sharp punches of his own. But when the decision was announced, the crowd booed roundly and, once again Marquez had lost a close fight.

One ringside judge had it a 114-114 draw, while two others favored Pacquiao by 115-113 and 116-112. The Associated Press had it 114-114.
The sellout crowd at the MGM Grand arena threw bottles and cans toward ringside after the decision was announced, with one full can hitting a ringside writer. Marquez, who had been bitter about the scoring in the first two fights, stormed out of the ring.

Pacquiao continued his remarkable run with the win, but it didn't come easy. He had trouble all night finding his range and, when he did get inside, Marquez often moved to the side and landed a counter right hand.

Marquez fought going backward all night, and that might have been his undoing. While he landed well at times, Pacquiao was in his face most of the night.

In business, competition is always part of the reasons of losing your money or winning the public's trust. Along with it, is the so-called factions and gaps among companies who sell the same product.

Real Estate, for instance, competition is very tight from concept, pricing, house designs and even locations. Companies are checking the moves and strategies of its direct competitors. Some would even make stories to destroy the credibility of other developers, enabling them to create a fresh image to a certain market.

Davao City alone has several housing projects ranging from low-cost to high-end subdivisions. No doubt competition between local and national players is very tight. Conflict has always been the problem.

To destroy such misunderstanding and conflicts among developers, the Subdivision and Housing Development Association Inc. has launched its 1st SHDA-Housing Agencies Friendship Game last October 22,2011 dubbed as "Strengthening Ties Through Sports" at Rancho Palos Verdes.

SHDA team is composed of representatives from Davao and national based housing developers like Kisan Lu Lands, Uraya Land,Santos Land, Camella Communities, HLC, 8990, FMSCI, RJP Realty and more!

This time, developers are competing as one against government housing agencies like Registry of Deeds, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Pag-IBIG Housing Fund, National Housing Authority, and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board which is powered by private companies who are working directly to developers like Davies paints and Boysen.

The aim of the said event is to eradicate the negative energies among developers and government housing agencies promoting camaraderie and unity.

Indeed, the purpose was served well. Friendship bonds people.

One good example is my experience as the cheerleader and choreographer of the SHDA pep squad.I work in Kisan Lu Lands who keeps the company' flag waving. This time around, for 1 month, my responsibility gone wide and wild.

Wide because for one month I worked with people with different strokes coming from 8990,HLC, and Santos Land who will represent the event's cheerdance competition.My task is to bond these folks making them one under SHDA.

Wild because, we have gone wild. We go out together not just to practice our piece but to relate each others character by sharing one glass of liquor.We even share our own personal life stories and I have discovered lots of interesting facts about them. Regardless of the position we are holding in our company [HR manager, marketing managers, clerks, cashiers, officers,collectors, etc] we treat each other as fair as we could. I can't imagine we have gone this far.I have found another circle of 'kabarkads' powered by social networks which makes the connection of bonding stronger.

" It is not just the opportunity of doing new in your stressful office life that you will be getting from joining such event but the chance to build connections to unique people" Estela B. Aguilos, Sales and Marketing Manager of Santos Land Development Corporation motivated her staffs to join the said event.

Not to mention other housing agencies experiences while playing as one team. I am sure they have as well found a new set of 'friendsters'.

The friendship game was culminated last Saturday night with a bang. Again, each team showcased their hidden talents on stage during the fellowship night.

The spirit of sportsmanship

I believe the ties among SHDA and housing agencies has been strengthen and will always be. All thumbs up to SHDA officers for creating such event where the face of the word 'competition' has changed!

Real Steal: Real Awesomeness!

Real steel is a blast! A film that combines Transformers and a father-son bonding. Hollywood critics may say they were corny but for Filipinos, the value of mother-daughter or father-son relationship matters most.

I would say, this belongs to my 'fav films list'. Actually, I'll put it on top. I love films that can move me. Real steel touched my hard steel heart and I couldn't hold a single tear from my eyes everytime Max talks to his father with so much pain and longings to be with him [father] who abandoned him.And the comeback put their bonding in an adventure that they do not imagine to happen.

Here comes ATOM. The junked robot that defeats the most sophisticated and according to the film, the KING of ROBOT BOXING-- Zeus! The fight scene made my heartbeat to pump faster while watching the heart warming team up of the son and the father who control atom. Atom is a robot that seems to have a feeling who can sense the emotions of his creators.

This is not just a story of steels and battles but also a story that inspires us to love our parents more as much as they love us. Real steel entertained us by the basic robotic visual effect thingy. However, the characters lives here are different from other old school sci-fi movies. They were able to blend with each other and made the crowd cry.

I love the film as I love my father and our moments together.

A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

P.S. There is a robot there named " Noisy Boy". He could have been so powerful and he looks awesome. I just love the robot and I hate Charlie for losing him.Grrrr

A man with two faces: Edward Mordake

Edward Mordrake (sometimes written Edward Mordake) is claimed to be a 19th century heir to one of the peerages in England who had an extra face on the back of his head. According to the story, the extra face could neither eat nor speak, but it could laugh and cry. Edward begged doctors to have his 'devil twin' removed, because, supposedly, it whispered horrible things to him at night, but no doctor would attempt it. He committed suicide at the age of 23.

This scares the crap out of me! I have been reading forum about Edward and almost everyone agreed that he has really existed before.

Accordingly, the devil twin's eyes follow spectators eyes and movement. The face smiles whenever Edward cries. Believe it or not.

Steve Jobs of Apple dies at 56

The man who likes to make history. The man behind the most loved gadgets. An inventor who have changed the world. The CEO and co-founder of Apple.

Steve Jobs died at 56.

It has been reported that Steve Jobs had been suffering from pancreatic cancer.

A statement from Jobs' family reads, in full:

"Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve's illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief."

Jobs has been instrumental in many of Apple's hit products, stretching back to 1976 with the Apple I and all the way to the modern-day iPhone and iPad. He revealed to Apple employees in 2004 that he'd been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent at least one liver transplant in 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Laurene, and their three children. Jobs also has a fourth child from a past relationship named Lisa, after whom he named Apple's "Lisa" computer in 1983.

While heat is striking here in Davao City, strong winds and heavy rains hit Luzon as typhoon Pedring combines power with South West Monsoon.

I can feel the typhoons fury while reading tweets of MMDA, PAG ASA and news networks.

PAGASA DOST is monitoring all the dams in Luzon. Angat,Ipo and La Mesa dams are being watched closely.

Mariking Watershed has received a lot of rains approximately 20mm/hr. Water not absorbed by the soil will go to the Markinina River.This river water level is expected to continue to rise. Travel time of water from the Marikina watershed to the Marikina River is approximately two hours.

PAG ASA recommends Metro Manila to be in full alert as Pedring will continue to hit until tonight. Landslides, flashfloods,floods,strong winds,storm surge,swells and tornadoes are some of the natural hazards still to be expected as per DOST PAGASA.

Obando Mayor claims all barangays in his area are now flooded. Mayor Orencio Gabriel now pleading for help from national government.

Earlier, 4 people died after a wall collapsed in Mapulang Lupa Valenzuela. Mayor Gatchalian said 40 families have been evacuated in Wawangpulo. He said that Meycuayan river has over flowed and strikes inland very fast.

Meanwhile, celebrities shows have been cancelled. The MMK show in Palawan has been cancelled by the network's management. 5th Canon Kadayawan Photo Contest

Photography has been my favorite outlet to alleviate myself from stress. Every image completes the puzzles of my day to day life. It grants me to see the other windows of realities.The other angle of art. The depth-of-field of emotions and the contrast of white and black.

I started joining photography contest when I was in highschool representing Mati School of Arts and Trades during the Division School Press Conference until I was able to represent Region XI in National Schools Press Conference held in Cebu City. And I was using the Canon film based camera.

Until now that the technology has revolved and introduced the what is called DIGITAL, Canon still reigns the market prompted me to invest an EOS Canon 550D worth 100 thousand plus including mountable lenses and gears.

I believe I belong to people who have special eyes. A skill to perceive things in different angle with a cinematic view and that is how photography works. I have proven it to myself last September 20,2011 when 2 of my photos out of 379 photos made it top 20 as finalist in the 5th Kadayawan Photo Contest 2011.The top 20 photos are available for public viewing now in Museo Dabaw.

Being one of the finalists is already an achievement for me.Photography is not the source of my living. It is just a burning passion within me which needs to be improved. No doubt, winners are coming from photography companies who have full access to gears and training. At least, I have competed against the pros and somehow I was able to be part of the top 20 winners.

This is my second achievement in photography contest. I brought home a CANON cam as first prize in a 6-photo essay contest during the DISCOVER DAVAO photo contest last March 2011 with the two respected pro-photogs Jojie Alcantara and Rhonson Ng as judges sponsored of course by Canon.

Indeed, photography is the mirror of emotions where time stops giving the naked eyes a chance to see the beauty and the dark sides of all things that keep our life moving.

Oprah Winfrey denies comments on Shamcey

Hours after Philippine bet Shamcey Supsup was named as the 3rd runner-up at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant, a purported statement from U.S. “Queen of Talk” Oprah Winfrey spread like wildfire online.

This alleged statement was aired via NBC News: “I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.”

But sorry to burst your bubble, the highly influential celebrity did not actually say that.

Answering a query on the alleged statement, a moderator on Oprah's official website Oprah.com said Oprah has not issued "any comments of this nature."

The moderator of the talk show's official website also advised fans to visit Oprah's pressroom in her online site for updates about the talk show host.

Some Filipino fans online have expressed disappointment over her non-title win, despite a good standing throughout the pageant.

However, the fake statement has a point. Donald Trump should consider also next time to impose a no-interpreter Miss Universe. The 88 countries should have 1 contestant who can speak English as the universal language. If Philippines can do, why can't they?

Holy Cross of Davao College has proven once again that HCDC is an institution of talented,brilliant and flexible individuals as they celebrate the 60th anniversary of HCDC (Diamond Jubilee) with their spectacular dance and chorus presentations at the CYO Gym last September 12,2011.

Despite of the heavy loads my career has given me, I was still able to witness some great parts of the show that made me proud as an alumnus of my dear Holy Cross.

While watching my teachers and friends performing in the dance floor and while the AVP showed the history of the school and the evolution of technology, memories were popping out from my mind. Memories of myself as a 'probinsyano' who have fought against the will of my parents.

I remember my mother saying " Stay in Mati, we cannot afford you to enroll in Davao, you know we are poor".

Those were words that actually challenged me and encouraged me to find my own quest for excellence in Davao. Let me share you how this school molded my faith and hardened my foundation making me invulnerable to discouragements and rejections.

Being a valedictorian in Mati School of Arts and Trades was my ticket to enroll in HCDC for FREE in my first year college. That determination prompted my parents to double their efforts to send me money which was enough only to pay my P600/mo. boarding house fee in the popular Fortune Alley very known as BUYAYANG.

Not had been for my cousin and my will to survive in this crazy city, I would never memorize the streets and landmarks of Davao City. Holy Cross was my HOME. I spent most of my time participating school's activities and contests.

AB - Mass Communication people were my family.My tribe in the school.The course I never expected to come into my life. My parents wanted me to be an engineer but my heart didn't say so. (I hate CALCULUS and RULERS).

I met amazing people and they became my 'super' friends until now. I have encountered good and 'not-so-good' mentors. PEACE!hehehe...but, generally they have been part and always will be in all the triumphs I have gone to. My peers and my [dancing] teachers were the heaviest factors that made me stronger and better everyday.

Balancing studies and fun were my secret weapon. I did not punish myself much in studies. I actually enjoy my studies by selecting trusted friends and trashing those useless people. Looking always the brighter side of my day to day life was my 'mantra' in surviving the battles of life inside and outside the school. This religious school has changed me in terms of valuing spiritual relationship with God.

No one looked over my shoulder in my 4 years in college.My parents were working so hard to at least support me.There were times, oftentimes, they failed but I never blamed them, instead, I loved them more. The absence of my parents' presence didn't affect me much. HCDC gave the pamper, the love, the comfort, the challenge and the encouragement to win all battles.

" I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Queen and Queen portion after having been trimmed down to 5. Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point!

The prediction of Missosology's was right about Ms Shamcey Supsup's rank. Anyhow, I would still say that Shamcey has brought home the bacon. Congratulation Shamcey Supsup. Congrats PHILIPPINES!

Next stage, will Shamcey sign a contract for GMA or ABS-CBN. Lol!

Miss Universe 2011 Final Prediction

I have been following with the blog posts and commentaries of Missosology.org. And finally, this online organization of artist and pageant experts have released their final prediction of the Miss Universe 2011 competition where our very own Shamcey Supsup was predicted as the 3rd runner-up.

Here is the Missosology's Top 10 final prediction.

Miss Universe 2011: Miss Ukraine, Olesia Stefanko
A haunting look, dramatic face, a type of eyes you can stare into all day and never get tired of looking into, which just so happens to be rare attributes for a delegate to have. The entire hall is stunned by her physical beauty. Olesia generates mass appeal & instantly becomes the centre of attraction which makes almost all delegates fade in comparison when standing next to her. She made all the right moves, right down to a sublime gown that flowed beautifully. She won the swimsuit competition hands-down, without contest, and was nearly the most ideal delegate to cross on that stage.

1st runner-up: Miss Peru, Natalie Vertiz
She has a tiger-like hotness to break onto the scene at any moment. She looks stellar in every type of outfit under the sun. Natalie gave us head-to-toe perfection donning an Atelier Versace inspired-gown. The freshest of them all, she's the picture of "upper-east side" preppy refinement. There's no denying that she's a formidable beauty with no real weaknesses. Started out subtly, and escalated throughout the night to end strong and solidly as others dwindled, she shone more and more brightly!

2nd runner-up: Miss Malaysia, Deborah Henry
Why do we love the sizzling Malaysian known as Deborah Henry? Is it her natural beauty, perhaps her sheer elegance or maybe it's her very intelligent interpretation of social issues that so many people respect. Perfectly associating grace with her gorgeous royal blue gown on the catwalk, it is her bearing that makes her so special & a winner in our eyes. We smell success for Malaysia this year! Debby is hungry for the crown!

3rd runner-up: Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup
Shamcey slogged her way to the top but her status didn't just fall into her lap. She won over the critics & experts in a way not thought possible until now. For the evening gown round, she brought out her secret weapon. Her sheer nude gown embellished with silver floral-patterned sequins which hugged every inch of her delicious curves made her look absolutely divine! Quietly stunning, Shamcey can nonetheless pose & sashay anyone off the stage. Her inner serenity, mesmerizing fluidity and ferocity when it comes to her body language go hand in hand. She can be dynamic, she can be modern, she can be powerful, but she’s always amazing.

4th runner-up: Miss Netherlands, Kelly Weekers
Standing out in the crowd is 5'11" tall Kelly, a platinum blonde haired model, whose lifestyle is one of living and breathing fashion. When described, the image of a life-size barbie doll, one who struts the glitter lined catwalk at a Victoria's Secret fashion show or a classy model on the high couture runways of Milan and Paris initially come to mind. She spiced up her overall packaging with a gown that plays well onstage.

Top 6: Miss Puerto Rico, Viviana Ortiz
What a star! Her million-dollar looking structured ivory sheath lit up the stage and gave her a very sweet boost. She was the clear winner of the evening gown round. Viviana's jaw-dropping editorial beauty transcends in many ways. She was a seductress who turned it on, amplified the volume & handled herself brilliantly all throughout the competition.

Top 7: Miss China, Luo Zilin
Luo is famous for a number of things, but the first item that springs to mind is her famous physical caliber. Aside from meeting many influential people in the pageant industry, she managed to score an intensive training with the Miss Universe Official Runaway coach prior to being flown to Brazil, hence began what would eventually become a hugely respected footing in the pageant. She’s got diva-esque presentation skills in a way that she knows how to own it -- but with natural, demure, commanding quality rather than a rehearsed, aggressive one.

Top 8: Miss Costa Rica, Johanna Solano
From the wilds of Costa Rica comes Johanna Solano, one of the most gorgeous Central American girls on the competition. It's Johanna's admirable body figure that gave her the most recognition. Our sentimental favorite starts to shine with her infectious smile & her effervescent charm. Just a tip: her prelim competition gown is totally a no-go, deal breaker and devastating to her solid chances.

Top 9: Miss Australia, Scherri-lee Biggs
Have we gotten ourselves a new powerhouse? There's no doubt that in Australia, you'll find engaging & topnotch beauties in abundance. Scherri is certainly the most likable contestant due to her carefree and fun public persona. Her relaxed and clean look cultivated a distinguished glamour, perfectly suited for the times.

Top 10: Miss Greece, Iliana Papageorgiou
If the term supermodel had existed when Iliana walked the runway, she would have been the poster child. She definitely tops this year's crop in terms of modeling chops. Iliana slowly but surely took the competition by storm with her surprising pleasing personality offstage and undeniable flare onstage. She's so down to earth in a very un-model like way.

Remembering 911:Story of Heroism

There were 3,000 people in different races died after the horrible terrorist attack where 2 planes were hijacked and hit the twin towers. We have heard so many heart breaking stories from the family of the victims. But now, I have gathered some short amazing true stories from the people who could have died but were saved by the bell.

Robert Matthews from Nofolk, Virgina, narrated the following story to a local radio station two years after the terrorist attack.

“A few weeks before Sept. 11, my wife and I found out we were going to have our first child. She planned a trip out to California to visit her sister. On our way to the airport, we prayed that God would grant my wife a safe trip and be with her.

“Shortly after I said ‘Amen,’ we both heard a loud pop and the car shook violently. We had blown out a tire. I replaced the tire as quickly as I could, but we still missed her flight. Both very upset, we drove home.

“I received a call from my father, who was a retired fireman of New York. He asked what my wife’s flight number was, but I explained that we missed the flight. My father informed me that her flight was the one that crashed into the southern tower. I was too shocked to speak. My father also had more news for me; he was going to help.

“I was concerned for his safety, of course, but more because he had never given his life to Christ.

“Then something happened. About two months ago, I was sitting at home with my wife and my son, when there was a knock on the door. I opened the door to a couple with a small child. The man looked at me and asked if my father’s name was Jake Matthews. I told him it was. He quickly grabbed my hand and said, ‘I never got the chance to meet your father, but it is an honor to meet his son.’

“He explained to me that his wife had worked in the World Trade Center and had been caught inside after the attack. She was pregnant and had been caught under debris. He then explained that my father had been the one who found his wife and freed her.

“‘There is something else you need to know,’ he said. His wife then told me that as my father worked to free her, she talked to him and led him to Christ. When their baby boy was born, they named him Jacob Matthews in honor of the man who saved their lives.”

Robert Matthews concluded, “God is always in control. We may not see the reason behind things, and we may never know this side of heaven, but God is ALWAYS in control.”

What’s needed is a firm faith, believing, and trusting in Him even if there seems to be no rhyme or reason to certain happenings.

Osama Bin Laden has perished but his demonic events on earth are still hunting our minds,hearts and our wills. The freedom is still uncertain to realize since Bin Laden has been teaching thousands of black minds whose purpose in life is to dismantle Christianity and the power of the state.

Remembering 911 is a moment of reflection reminding the world to continue to fight against terrorism. I am just quite not so sure if Philippines, my dear country, is capable enough in countering such terrorism act knowing this country has been doing all its best in combating against the long-running rebel's organization (NPA).

For me, I have known the best weapon above all-- PRAYER. Holding on with the creator is the key to surviving the battle between good and evil.

Crocodile eats an old man in Agusan del Sur

A 20-feet long crocodile was captured in Baranggay Nueva Era Bunawan, Agusan del Sur with the help of the residents and the local government under Mayor Edwin Elorde last Saturday night (Sept.3,2011).

Residents also suspected the crocodile as responsible for preying on a Carabao and an old man folk. The victim's brother believed that his brother was killed and eaten by this crocodile.

The local gov't was permitted by the Protected Areas and Wildlife Division (PAWD) to set a trap after receiving series of reports that crocodiles are preying on carabaos in the area.

PAWD reminds the locals also that crocodiles are also declared protected animals. Hurting it is against the law.

I have been planning to visit to Bunawan,Agusan Del Sur specifically in the Agusan Marsh. The floating community there gives me a rush of excitement to take photos of the vast waterlilies floating on a lake with this floating community.

But, after what had happened, I don't think if I still can manage to visit a place where crocodiles are just around. No one knows. In 2009, crocodiles bumped the boat and attacked the students while on their way to their floating school at Minaba Lake,Agusan.

There is just a big question on my mind. Why does PAWD protect crocs.In my opinion, crocs are the cancers of the society. They attack and kill living things. That is why, we eliminate crocodile in politics because they are dangerous in the society.

Whatever the reason why there is a protection to crocs, I still don't get the logic.

Mayor Elorde said they will keep the crocodile because this will somehow boost tourism in Bunawan,Agusan. My question is TOURISM or LIFE?

If you don't agree with me please enlighten my mind.

MMDA: Several NCR areas flooded due to heavy rains

Residents of National Capital Region surely didn't expect of such heavy rain last Sunday ( September 4, 2011)

The wrath of nature is now destroying expectations and confidence of some people believing they are safe from any natural phenomenon.

MMDA said on its twitter account that some areas of EDSA and C-5 roads were also flooded.

Among others are:

E. Rodriguez (Araneta), not passable to light vehicles;

Parts of Quezon City Circle (gutter deep), traffic heavy at Quezon City Circle to East Avenue;

Kamias near Anonas in Quezon City;

Tomas Morato in Quezon City, "above the knee" flood;

Timog west-bound, not passable to light vehicles;

C5 and EDSA northbound, moderate to heavy due to flooded areas;

Biak-na-Bato, half-tire flood;

Knee-high flood at R. Papa;

C-5, flood at Eagle Street is knee-deep, and not passable to light vehicles;

Araneta Biak-na-Bato 13 inches deep;
