About The Child Advocacy Centre

The Child Advocacy Centre (CAC) will be southern Alberta’s first one-stop centre for the treatment of child abuse.

CAC will get to the truth when there is suspicion of physical abuse, emotional abuse, or sexual assault involving a child, and we’ll be there to help a child heal, mend and grow beyond the abuse.

By bringing together four major community partners: Calgary Police Service, Calgary and Area Child and Family Services, Alberta Health Services, and Alberta Justice Calgary Crown Prosecutors, victims of abuse under the age of 18, can share their story without being re-traumatized time and time again.

These four government agencies are leading the way by implementing a new Alberta-model of integration and collaboration. For the first time ever, they will work together under one roof, to focus on treating abused children, stopping the cycle of abuse, changing victims’ lives, and putting criminals behind bars.

The Centre’s staff expertise involves police investigation, prosecution, medicine, social work, psychology, psychiatry, child development, and nursing – with a common commitment to a multidisciplinary approach to child abuse.

CPS Bad Buoys are now off to New York City to compete in the 2011 World Police & Fire Games, to be held on September 11th.  “We will be working hard to defend our Gold medal from the 2009 Vancouver Police and Firefighter Games,” says Tanya Paziuk, a detective in the robbery unit, who led her dragon boat racing team to gold in 2009.

This year, she expects no different for her team of 15 female officers. “I think it’s really important this year. With the tribute to all the fallen officers, we’re really excited to go – even talking about it, you get chills, you remember that day,” said Paziuk, 40.

When Paziuk last led her team to victory in 2009, it was her first games event. Now, she says there’s even more meaning to the competition. “It’s about trying to entice women to join the world of policing. It’s more than just the work environment. There’s a sisterhood and a way of engaging in the community. To date, we know that there will be 14 teams and competition is going to be challenging….but we are all very excited!”

Albi’s a proud supporter of the Calgary Police Services Women’s Dragon Boat Team. Good luck to the CPS Bad Buoys in New York City.

The seminar takes place on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Albi Homes Head Office at 4770 – 110^th Avenue SE, Calgary, Alberta. Attendees will enjoy complimentary snacks and refreshments and a full roster of helpful information about the new home buying process.

“If you’re thinking about building a new home, this seminar is a must,” says Justin Mauro, marketing coordinator at Albi Homes. “Even if you have built a new home before, it is an opportunity to catch up with what has been happening in the new home market in Calgary over the past few years.”

The seminar will offer an update on the latest communities — where’s hot, where’s not, what you should be looking for, lot information, and more. There will also be a review of the latest home design models, features & specifications, advice and tips on what to look for when visiting show homes and a look at the latest in materials and selections. And with changes in mortgage rules, financing options will also be on the agenda.

We saw a need in the market for solid information and advice,” says Mauro. “For people experienced with building a new home, the seminar will provide new knowledge. For first time buyers, it will provide a solid foundation for shopping for a new home with confidence.”

If response to the seminar is good, Albi will consider scheduling additional seminar dates and perhaps even offering additional seminars focused on specific areas of the new home buying and building process. “We are strong believers that providing education and information to customers is a win-win. It helps the customers make better, more informed choices. And it helps us as a builder because our buyers will be more confident and knowledgeable about their choices, and will hopefully appreciate that we have gone the extra mile to provide objective advice.

Mauro stresses that attending the seminar in no way obligates anyone to choose Albi as their builder. “We’re here to help. Sure, we hope people will get out of it that Albi is a great choice for them. But whatever they choose to do is up to them.”

On February 25th Albi hosted and intimate gathering to celebrate the grand opening of the Galleria with a wonderful evening of Italian food & wine. The festivities began with an exclusive cooking demonstration from celebrity chef David Rocco, of the Food Network and TLN, and the 3 Italian Mamma’s of Mercato Gourmet Cultura. As well the evening  was a surprise celebration of our founder, Tom Mauro’s, 60th birthday. Tom was presented with the Tom Mauro Endowment Fund to support SAIT Polytechnic students.  During the evening funds raised from donation and live auction were put towards the fund and totaled $50,000 when all was said and done.

This tremendous evening was more than just a unveiling; it was a celebration of culture, tradition, and community. We would like to thank our staff, partners, and guests for helping us create and kick-off the inspirational Galleria at Albi!
