GAME ON - 20th JUNE

This week on GAME ON we take a look at the Australian bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018/2022. It may be almost ten years away, but football fans around the country are already getting carried away at the thought.

Also on the show we join the debate around 'HECS' fees for athletes. Many athletes benefit from taxpayer-funded grants and scholarships, and subsequently go on to multi-million dollar careers... So, should our elite sportspeople be paying back the cost of their education? We chat to the chief architect of the HECS scheme, Bruce Chapman, as well as olympic athletes, university students, and sports journalists to get to the bottom of the issue.

All of that, plus we head to London to touch base with the soon to be captain of the Aussie women's cricket squad, Jodie Fields, where she and the team were finishing up their ICC World Twenty20 campaign.

GAME ON - 13th JUNE

This week on GAME ON is a jam-packed edition! We check out the Women's ICC World Twenty20 competition that's underway in London and have a chat to captain of the squad, Karen Rolton.

Staying with women's sport, we look into the state of the ANZ trans-tasman netball champs that are now into the 2nd year. Has the shift to Channel Ten brought the league closer to mainstream publicity? And how important is it to tap into the popularity of the sport in NZ?

We also look into Patty Mills' decision to nominate for the NBA draft, officially putting an end to his college basketball career and going all-in for a shot at basketball stardom.

The NRL is facing difficulties of another kind this week... This time it's swine flu, and the difficulties that its spread has posed for the Brisbane Broncos. Will they play or won't they play, that was the question when we spoke to club officials and league medical advisors just before the game.

All that, and plenty more on this week's edition of GAME ON!

GAME ON - 6th JUNE

This week on GAME ON, we check out the AFL's football initiatives amongst indigenous and multicultural communities.

In an inner-Melbourne suburb with a changing cultural demographic, Essendon Football Club is doing everything it can to muster support amongst the new culturally diverse communities.

And they're not the only ones... The AFL's Maria Cosmidis tells us what's going on in Western Sydney besides Rugby League.

Artan Jama looks into the problem of alcohol in sport after Andrew Symonds' World Twenty20 cricket hopes were dashed as a result of an alcohol-related incident, and we look at the rise and rise of Women's Cricket (not least because of its sound role models!) as the Aussie girls prepare for arguably the biggest event in women's cricketing history... the Women's ICC World Twenty20 Tournament.

GAME ON - 30th MAY

This week on GAME ON it's scandal time again at the NRL... Troubled ex-star Matthew Johns faces fresh charges of homosexual vilification, and Cronulla Shark Paul Gallen receives a $10,000 fine for an on-field racist insult.

We chat to Nigel Wagana from the NRL's Education Program to find out what they're doing to stamp out this behavoir at the NRL, and to gay activist Daniel Witthaus about homophobia in wider society.

Also on the show, we look into amateur vs professional boxing, and the quest for recognition for our female boxers.

And of course, it wouldn't be GAME ON, without an NBL flavoured controversy! This time, it's Melbourne Tigers' CEO Seamus McPeake, explaining why his team, was in, then out, then back in again to the new-look NBL.

GAME ON - 16th MAY

Game On tackles the NRL... This week, host Alex Mann follows the story of disgraced NRL star Matthew Johns, and its exposure of a pervasive anti-social culture amongst players. Interviews with NSW Liberal Shadow MP for Women PRU GOWARD and chief advisor to the NRL on gender issues, Sydney-based academic CATHERINE LUMBY.

Basketball Australia finally announced the shape of the new-look NBL on Tuesday, and reactions have been mixed to say the least. On either side of the reactionary divide we've got CEO of the 'in hiatus' Melbourne Tigers, and basketball media stalwart Andrew Gaze.

All that, plus interviews with the record-smashing stars of the Paralympic Arafura Games in Darwin.
