We are excited to announce that Paul Speed is coming to Quest again this year. Mr. Speed came to Quest 2011 and spent three days with the guys speaking on Lies of the Devil and Moral Purity. Both of the sessions had a big impact on the students, and also on the leadership as well.

Paul Speed is the founder of “Whatever It Takes!” Ministries for couples (www.witministries.com) and “4 Days 2 Freedom” (www.4days2freedom.com) for men. Since 2005, Paul has spoken to thousands of men sharing his personal story of freedom from a life-time of bondage to lust, lying & hypocrisy. He now shares the lessons of freedom he learned and how God restored his relationship with his wife and children. Although Mr. Speed speaks nationally each year, his heart’s desire is to personally help men find freedom from years of bondage to sexual sin. We are happy to have him back again this year, and look forwards to how God is going to use his message in the lives of the young men in Quest 2012.

Quest 2012 is rapidly approaching and I am excited to see how it is coming together. I was reminded earlier this week of what my main goal for the Quest program is. The key phrase for Quest is “transitioning to manhood”. The critical part of that phrase is the three letters “ing”. In four weeks I cannot transform a boy into a man. The Quest program cannot get the students to their end goal in the four weeks. But it can help begin the transition. I was talking to a mother whose son had attended Quest back in 2009 and she described Quest as a catalyst for her son. She said that before Quest her son was not focused and bounced around with responsibilities. He would not always stick to the task at hand. But after he attended Quest, she said, that all started to change. Now he is much more focused, and much more mature. Why? In part, because during Quest 2009 he started the transition to manhood. During the five years that I have worked with Quest, I have seen that same process repeated over and over again.

As I started preparing for Quest this year, the Lord showed me a verse from the book of Hosea that really captures the main focus for Quest. Hosea 6:3 says, “Let us know, let us press on to know the LORD.” Let us press on to know; not just be content knowing a little about, not just kind of trying to know Him, pressing on to know the LORD. Pressing through the tough times, the times when He seems silent, and pressing on when the way seems to be easy. The spiritual relationship of the young men at Quest is the biggest focus. More than the classes, the skills training, the events, the schedules, everything. Press on to know the LORD.

That is just a quick update on where Quest is this year. We’re currently accepting and processing applications for the 2012 program. I am looking forwards to this summer and all of the things that God is going to do in the young men’s lives this year at Quest!

Are you interested in serving with Quest this summer as leadership? If you are looking to be challenged beyond your own abilities and strenghts, looking for an opportunity to work with young men and influence the next generation, and looking for an intense time of spiritual growth and testing, then consider working as Quest Leadership. Being a leader at Quest is one of the hardest things that you will ever do, as all of our past leadership will confirm. However, it is an amazing time of seeing God work and being able to participate in the battle for the Kingdom. If you are interested in working with us this summer, fill out the 2012 Staff application and send it it. The application is available on our Registration page, as well as here.

Please note, Quest Leadership is usually reserved for young men who have already attended a previous Quest program, however exceptions can be made. If you have not participated in Quest and are still interested in serving in that role, contact the office once you’ve sent your application in to see about getting an exception.

One again we’re happy to announce that we will be offering a NASE Worldwide certified Open Water Diving course during Quest this year. This course allows you to get your Open Water Diver certificate which permits you to dive solo in up to 66 feet of water. The cost for the course is $295, which covers books, gear rentals, and instruction. This course is only open to Quest students, and there are only 16 available slots, after which we cannot accept any more students. Unfortunately, we cannot reserve a spot in the course for anyone who is not accepted to Quest 2012.

The spots fill up quickly, we reached our limit in the beginning of May last year, so don’t wait to send in your SCUBA application! Additional information and the necessary forms are available here.
