Ladies Day at Gulfstream Racetrack

Hallandale, FL- It was really interesting to me to see all the different type of people that enjoy horse racing. To me it is such a foreign thing. I spent a lot of time at the track just walking around and observing people. I tried to capture the unique people that caught my attention that day. Sometime when I see someone interesting I try to think about where they come from, possibly what they do, stuff like that. Here is a guy that really caught my attention. His jacket, his old face, him smoking a cigarette. I could imagine his raspy voice talking about the old glory days of horse racing. "Ya know kid, back in the day....." This guy looked like he lived at the racetrack.

Art Basel: Bloo Zoo

After spending three days working for World Redeye covering Art Basel I was able to take Saturday off and along with my friend Mark Kincaid, I got to DJ at Bloo Zoo in Wynwood. It was my first official DJ gig and I was stoked for all my friends to come out. Of course I took photos of the event and my adventures to other galleries. I also had my MONOTONY KILLS piece up for display.

Boca Raton, FL- It was good to catch up with the guys of Le Blorr during their show at the Funky Buddha last night. The guys have been super busy touring and have been working on some new material. Miami Beach, FL- I can't tell you how many hip hop shows I have been to that just weren't worth it. A good hip hop show has to be more then someone rapping over a beat. Black Star definitely delivered. With their DJ, J Rocc, orchestrating the beats perfectly, Talib Kweli and Mos Def (now known as Yassin Bey) showed Miami what a good hip hop show is like. You could tell the guys really enjoyed performing together and their chemistry showed it. Here are my favorites from the show, which was opened by Black Rob.

Here is my first music video. It's for the second track from Jonny Lyrks off of his mixtape "Words from the Burbs 2.0". This video was shot as I tagged along with Lyrks and Mark Kincaid to Mark's show at Lynn Radio. I took almost 1500 still images during the day. I was able to sequence everything in Lightroom first, then in Premier, all I really had to worry about was adding text and transitions. It's cool to finally make my first video.

Plymouth, MA- During the weekend in Massachusetts for my Grandma's 80th Birthday, a bunch of my family and I played tourist and went to Plymouth Rock. The weather was awesome and it was a nice walk along on the water. The whole idea of Plymouth Rock kind of amuses me. It is the most ordinary looking rock, just really big. You can only look at a rock for so long.

Plymouth, Massachusetts- This past weekend I visited family in Massachusetts for my grandma's 80th birthday. It's always good to catch up with family and it feels good to be able to give back with my photography.

Miami Beach, FL- I've been to a few dubstep shows in my day and the Zeds Dead show is definitely one of the best I've been too. The sound was on point and the bass was wompy. Check out the review Mark Kincaid did for SFL Music Magazine.

I tagged along with my friend and dj Mark Kincaid for his radio show at Lynn University's Knight Radio. You can tune into his live sets Tuesday 5-7pm and Thursday 3-6pm eastern time. You can also listen to some of his mixes over at his Soundcloud

We took a couple photos on the way out for him to use for promotion. The statues of people are part of a scene of a group of people taking a picture for an actual photographer statue. I thought it was weird that they are looking different directions.

Birdhouse Miami to NYC Skate Tour

On a recent assignment from New Times, I got the chance to meet Tony Hawk on his Birdhouse Miami to NYC Skate Tour. Unfortunately I missed the demo by the pros, but was able to get some behind the scenes photos of the guys hanging out. A guy known as Funky added to his autograph collection by having the skate pros tattoo their signature on his back. "Funky" supposedly has the record for tattooed autographs. Bonnaroo 2011

Manchester, TN- Here's some of what I wrote for an article:

"It was summertime in Manchester, Tennessee and the skies were their signature blue and were dominated by the brutal sun. The campgrounds were treacherous with dust in the air and the occasional horse droppings.

The landscape of Bonnaroo is truly unique. The farm’s grass, the trees, the various tents and attractions. The cast of characters of Bonnaroo will amuse you. There are crazy hats, hilarious signs and an enthusiasm for the festival that carries it though."

I was walking across one of the fields to go from one tent to another when this guy caught my eye.

I have a photograph of him from Bonnaroo in 2008 that's in my portfolio. I recognized him by the cross on his forearm, among other things. When I first met him he literally just sat in the same place, frozen in his own little world, for quite a while. Let's just say this time he wasn't exactly alert.

Originally I wasn't that stoked about my photos from Bonnaroo. I was bummed that I did not have access to the photo pits this year and actually didn't photograph that much. That's kind of what has kept me from posting these photos for a while.What I did shoot was more from the perspective of a normal festival attendee. Looking back on them now, with a lot of time in between, I think the final edit does portray what I wanted. As I look at these photos the feeling of oppressive heat and being really dirty comes back to me. Still, I can't wait for next year.

Streets Project: Kiersten

To begin my Streets project, Kiersten and I ended up on A1A along the beach in Boca Raton.

And in between waiting and dodging cars.

I'd like to continue with this personal project and create series of pictures of people in the middle of their street. Their street as in a street that represents them or has been a part of their life. Here is a random one that I photographed after Best of the Best in the middle of Biscayne Blvd. The ridiculousness of it being in the middle of major street in downtown Miami got me thinking.

I think the best streets are those where you normally would not see someone standing in the middle of it.

So if you have a street in mind let me know. If we can make it happen I am down.

Trip to New England

I've been meaning to post these for a while now. I went on a trip to New England in May for my cousin's graduation and to see some of my family. It's always good to see family and get a chance to photograph them.

We started off the trip by visiting my grandpa.

Next it was off to my cousin Nikki's graduation from Northeastern. After we headed out for some lunch around Faneuil Hall.

I'm sure everyone has the family member that obnoxiously takes photos with their phone.

One of the things I always notice when I travel is how the landscape is different from where I live. The color palette of stuff like the leaves, trees, and buildings is just different, especially during season's we don't have in Florida. Here are some photos I took during a walk in one of the parks in Cape Cod and I tried to capture the difference.

After spending time with my dad's side, my brother and I got to spend a few days with my mom's side. It had been a while since we got to see any of them and it was good to catch up. All of a sudden the little kids I remembered weren't so little anymore and there were new additions.

I still don't know how he can stretch his neck that much.

I'll tell ya what, my grandma is a pistol. I think she has the right though after raising so many kids. I am glad I was able to get an environmental portrait of her in her apartment.

It definitely brought me back to the days of little league when we got to catch on of my cousin Ben's baseball games. Those were the days when it was just all about having fun. I was pretty bad ass back then too.
