Algarve, Portugal is located about as south as you can get in Portugal. As one of the most popular tourist’s spots in the country it has many amenities that visitors enjoy. Consisting of 16 towns, the region almost doubles in size in the peak summer months. With the beautiful beaches, low cost, hilly terrain and great climate it is a great place to visit. And if you like to play golf, you will not be disappointed during your stay. Algarve golf courses are some of the most beautiful and challenging ones in the world.

There are many courses in the area. Additionally, there are eight sections in Algarve and each will give you access to premier Algarve golf courses that you should consider visiting if you are in the region. In fact, a great vacation idea is to visit and play as many Algarve golf courses as you make your way from east to west.

From the western most section of Algarve in the Sagres region you have one 18 hole course called Parque da Floresta with a par three 15th hole that golfers tend to thoroughly enjoy. Further east in the Lagos section are two more courses; the Boavista and the Palmares. The Boavista has great scenery and views of the Atlantic. The Palmares is considered the most picturesque course in the Algarve region.

A bit further west in the Portimao region you start to hit some Algarve golf courses clustering together. There are ten courses in this area alone. The Penina Championship course is located here. It is one of the oldest in the region. The Vale do Milho is a nice par nine course for the beginner that still wants to try to play. Many of the courses in the area have the same great scenery you would expect but not the same degree of water views as the western parts of Algarve.

If you had been going from west to east, you would be in the center of the region . Central Algarve golf courses are also numerous. In all there are fifteen. They are located in the Albufeira, Vialmoura and Almancil regions. From the 9 hole short executive course named Balaia to the pine tree lined Pinhal to the long but very playable Quinta do Lago North, there are many great courses to consider in the central part of the region.

Continuing further east, you would arrive at the Tavira and Santo Antonio sections, the most eastern regions in Algarve. The Algarve golf courses located in this area also has its own unique look. Quina da Ria is a great 18 hole course which is set in a nature reserve with views of the sea. In contrast, Colina Verde is a nice short 9 hole that is located in the country. Still further east is the Monte Rei which was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It has everything from hilly landscape to the views of the water; it is very beautiful and modern.

Depending on what you are looking for, the golf courses in Algarve have it. In fact you have almost 40 courses to choose from just to find what you want. From short par 3’s, nine hole courses or long competitive 18 hole courses, there is every type of skill level addressed on at least one (if not more) of these courses. You also have sea views, bay vies, country views and villa views depending on what you like. Algarve golf courses also very often have restaurants and other amenities to make your round one of the highlights of your visit to the area.
