The birth of a child is always special, but when this mama of two beloved boys found out that number three was going to be a girl, oh, how the pink began to fly! And if you look at these photos, it is obvious that little baby K is not only adored by her beautiful mother, but she has the boys of the family wrapped around her little finger.

Every Christmas, I have one gift that I’m really excited to give. Last year, it was a whiskey decanter and whiskey rocks for my brother-in-law (who is tough to buy for). This year I was most excited about the gift I came up with for my sister-in-law. About 6 weeks before Christmas, we were out at the farm visiting with family. Without my s-i-l knowing, I took her four girls outside and did a super-mini photo-shoot with them. I didn’t give the girls advance warning, so their hair and clothes are really casual and normal, just the way I like it. I had a print made and I framed it for their mom’s Christmas gift. Here’s the photo of my four beautiful nieces…

This expecting mama is glowing and gorgeous! Photographing this season of a family’s life is always special for me and when they are my good friends, it’s even better. I have known N since our first babies were born (thank-you Capital Health for the New Mom’s Group!), and she is as lovely a person on the inside as on the outside. Her family is pretty great too, so I am eagerly anticipating the birth of this little one! I hope you enjoy my favorite five from the session…

good-bye sneak peeks, hello favorite five…

January is such a good time for reflection and planning. In the last couple of weeks, I have been re-evaluating many aspects of how I run my small business. One area I’ve been thinking about is the practice of providing a “sneak peek”. To date, I have always posted a sneak peek for clients on my website and on Facebook. The purpose of this was to give the client some instant gratification and to have a current selection of photos that new clients could look through. I usually picked five or so of my favorite shots from the session, quickly edited them, and made them available for the public and the client to see. For a couple of reasons, I’ve decided to change the timing in how I present these photos to the public. First of all, the time frame between the posting of the sneak peek and the completion of the gallery is about two weeks. One concern I have is that when I post the 5 best photos for the client and then they have to wait two weeks for the remainder of their gallery, it becomes somewhat anti-climactic since they have already seen what is in theory, the best of the shoot. Secondly, I believe the client should be the very first person to see their photos. While I might think a certain shot is fantastic, I respect that it might not be one that the client loves, or wants posted for the world to see! Finally, I would like to move towards delivering a client’s gallery in-person. I believe that a more personalized delivery of the gallery will help clients to choose packages, prints, and products that are tailor-fit for their homes.

So, it’s good-by to the sneak peek and hello to the favorite five. After clients have received their gallery and we have talked about our favorite images, I’ll post the favorite five (or so!) from the session. Stay tuned for some favorite fives to be posted in the next week!

Each fall, I am excited to see them again – to catch up on what been going on in their lives and to see how much their beautiful boys have grown. One of the consequences of having a baby again is that I am not as quick in posting photos as I used to be! This particular photoshoot was done on a super-chilly day earlier this fall. The clients and I even debated whether to re-book it for a warmer day, but in the end, we decided to go ahead, and I’m so glad that we did. Other than some pink ears and noses on their little boys, you can hardly tell how cold they really were. I have done the G family’s photos a few times in the past couple of years, and as always, they look stylish and beautiful – even when they are all shivering!

It was a treat to be able to do this newborn (and family) photoshoot outside – Edmonton weather doesn’t often allow for it. But we awoke to a warm and sunny morning, and the m family was game to give it a try. The colours were stunning – from the greens of the trees, to the blues of the boys’ eyes. The r family was extremely patient with me – allowing me to linger for over 3 hours and get all the shots that I really wanted. It wasn’t a hardship on my part – it was so nice spending time with them, and getting to photograph this gorgeous baby boy.
