When becoming a scrapper, what is the first thing you think of? Albums- What kind of scrapbook album do I want to use? Choices, choices, choices! Not only are there so many to choose from, but they are all based mainly on what kind of binding you prefer. Three-Ring or also known as D-Ring albums are quite like a school binder, and pager protectors can easily be removed from album to place your page layouts in.

Another scrapbook album is Post-Bound, which is bound by two to four metal posts that hold the album together through the edge. Strap-Hinge albums are bound by a leather or plastic strap which goes through the edge of the album. The page protectors are side-loading rather then top-loading which come with the Post-Bound and Three-Ring albums. One other album option is Spiral-Bound. Covers can be durable and are often made from heavy acid-free tag board, this scrapbook album uses a metal or nylon coil to permanently secure hole-punched pages between the front and back covers. Spiral-Bound can be great for a gift or even a calendar.

When choosing a size, I take a look at how many pictures will be in the scrapbook album, the size of your photos, if you prefer to work with 5″ x 7″ or larger photos, that will guide you toward an album that is 9″ x 9″ or larger. Last, but not least, take a look at your theme. When I make a baby book for baby showers, I wasn’t so sure on what size of album to choose. I would be making the page layouts without photos. So I chose to make smaller 6″ x 6″ albums for these baby shower gifts. They were simple and gave the mothers different ways to place beautiful photos of their newborn baby inside. All you ever wanted to know about scrapbooking, but were afraid to ask. Some may think that scrapbooking is a daunting project, but once you have your photos all organized, then scrapbooking is a sinch. Organizing your photos is the hardest part of scrapbooking, and that is because it is so time consuming. Once you have those photos all organized; then all you have to do is grab a piece of paper, a cute embellishment, create a journaling block, and adhere your photo and you have created your first “page layout”!

Some people think they don’t know the first thing about scrapbooking, but with the internet era we are in, there is a wealth of knowledge out there to help us scrapbook. You will find everything you need to know about scrapbooking right on the internet, or thru blogs. Crop parties are a “must” for the beginning scrapbooker. You will be able to glean from experienced scrappers all you want to know about scrapbooking, and maybe even a little more. Spending a few hours an evening with several women can be very interesting!

Another great source to find out about scrapbooking are the great scrapbook magazines in the stores. There are several that you can find even at Wal Mart. I especially love the Paper Crafts Magazine, which deals more with card making (which is just a smaller form of scrapbooking). There are even great magazines about digital scrapbooking.

Just get researching all of these great resources about scrapbooking and you will have a great time creating new memories for you and your family. Memories that will last hundreds of years, because of all of the great new acid-free and lignen-free products that we have to use now. So get out there and start learning all you can about scrapbooking. You’ll never regret it!
