Phelps. "Kolob" is a Mormon word that, roughly translated, means "God's thrown." Some scholars think "kolob" may have evolved from the semitic root QLB, which means "heart, center, middle," in harmony with the hypothetical central position of God's thrown in the universe He has created. It's a word that modern Mormons rarely use. Whether Kolob has literal or symbolic meaning is an unsettled theological question in Mormonism. Hope you enjoy the hymn! If you could hie to Kolob In the twinkling of an eye, And then continue onward With that same speed to fly, Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity, Find out the generation Where Gods began to be? Or see the grand beginning, Where space did not extend? Or view the last creation, Where Gods and matter end? Me thinks the Spirit whispers, "No man has found 'pure space,' Nor seen the outside curtains, Where nothing has a place." The works of God continue, And worlds and lives abound; Improvement and progression Have one eternal round. There is no end to matter; There is no end to space; There is no end to spirit; There is no end to grace. There is no end to virtue; There is no end to might; There is no end to wisdom; There is no end to light. There is no end to union; There is no end to youth; There is no end to priesthood; There is no end to truth. There is no end to glory; There is no end to love; There is no end to being; There is no death above. There is no end to glory; There is no end to love; There is no end to being; There is no death above. This earth was once a garden place, With all her glories common; And men did live a holy race, And worship Jesus face to face, In Adam-ondi-Ahman. We read that Enoch walk[e]d with God, Above the pow[e]r of Mammon: While Zion spread herself abroad, And saints and angels sung aloud In Adam-ondi-Ahman. Her land was good and greatly blest, Beyond old Israel's Canaan: Her fame was known from east to west; Her peace was great, and pure the rest Of Adam-ondi-Ahman. Hosanna to such days to come- The Savior's second comin[g]- When all the earth in glorious bloom, Affords the saints a holy home Like Adam-ondi-Ahman. After having fled state-authorized genocide in Missouri several years earlier, as well as the mobocracy of Illinois, thousands of Mormons found themselves in the wilderness, on the trail to their new desert home in Utah. William Clayton wanted to write a song that expressed his trust in God. Despite the hardships he'd suffered, he knew God would help the Mormons find their rest in the wilderness. "Come, Come Ye Saints" has become a beautiful symbol of the Mormon migration to the western United States.

Come, come, ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear;
But with joy wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear,
Grace shall be as your day.
'Tis better far for us to strive
Our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this, and joy your hearts will swell-
All is well! All is well!

Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard?
'Tis not so; all is right.
Why should we think to earn a great reward
If we now shun the fight?
Gird up your loins; fresh courage take.
Our God will never us forsake;
And soon we'll have this tale to tell-
All is well! All is well!

We'll find the place which God for us prepared,
Far away in the West,
Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid;
There the Saints will be blessed.
We'll make the air with music ring,
Shout praises to our God and King;
Above the rest these words we'll tell-
All is well! All is well!

And should we die before our journey's through,
Happy day! All is well!
We then are free from toil and sorrow, too;
With the just we shall dwell!
But if our lives are spared again
To see the Saints their rest obtain,
Oh, how we'll make this chorus swell-
All is well! Come, come, ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear; But with joy wend your way. Though hard to you this journey may appear, Grace shall be as your day. 'Tis better far for us to strive Our useless cares from us to drive; Do this, and joy your hearts will swell- All is well! All is well! Why should we mourn or think our lot is hard? 'Tis not so; all is right. Why should we think to earn a great reward If we now shun the fight? Gird up your loins; fresh courage take. Our God will never us forsake; And soon we'll have this tale to tell- All is well! All is well! We'll find the place which God for us prepared, Far away in the West, Where none shall come to hurt or make afraid; There the Saints will be blessed. We'll make the air with music ring, Shout praises to our God and King; Above the rest these words we'll tell- All is well! All is well! And should we die before our journey's through, Happy day! All is well! We then are free from toil and sorrow, too; With the just we shall dwell! But if our lives are spared again To see the Saints their rest obtain, Oh, how we'll make this chorus swell- All is well! All is well! The hymn preaches a powerful sermon; kindness to God's children is equated with kindness to the Savior Jesus Christ Himself. Hope you enjoy my arrangement! A poor wayfaring Man of grief Hath often crossed me on my way, Who sued so humbly for relief That I could never answer nay. I had not pow'r to ask his name, Where-to he went, or whence he came; Yet there was something in his eye That won my love; I knew not why. Once, when my scanty meal was spread, He entered; not a word he spake, Just perishing for the want of bread. I gave him all; he blessed it, brake, And ate, but gave me part again. Mine was an angel's portion then, For while I fed with eager haste, The crust was manna to my taste. I spied him where a fountain burst Clear from the rock; his strength was gone. The heedless water mocked his thirst; He heard it, saw it hurrying on. I ran and raised the suff'rer up; Thrice from the stream he drained my cup, Dipped and returned it running o'er; I drank and never thirsted more. 'Twas night; the floods were out; it blew A winter hurricane aloof. I heard his voice abroad and flew To bid him welcome to my roof. I warmed and clothed and cheered my guest And laid him on my couch to rest: Then made the earth my bed, and seemed In Eden's garden while I dreamed. Stript, wounded, beaten nigh to death, I found him by the highway side. I roused his pulse, brought back his breath, Revived his spirit, and supplied Wine, oil, refreshment--he was healed. I had myself a wound concealed, But from that hour forgot the smart, And peace bound up my broken heart. In prison I saw him next, condemned To meet a traitor's doom at morn. The tide of lying tongues I stemmed, And honored him 'mid shame and scorn. My friendship's utmost zeal to try, He asked if I for him would die. The flesh was weak; my blood ran chill, But my free spirit cried, "I will!" Then in a moment to my view The stranger started from disguise. The tokens in his hands I knew; The Savior stood before mine eyes. He spake, and my poor name he named, "Of me thou hast not been ashamed. These deeds shall thy memorial be; Fear not, thou didst them unto me." I recently composed an arrangement of the Mormon hymn "The Spirit of God," by William W. Phelps. "The Spirit of God" was sung at the dedication of the Kirtland temple in 1836 and was included in the first Mormon hymnal. I recently composed an arrangement of the Mormon hymn "The Spirit of God," by William W. Phelps. "The Spirit of God" was sung at the dedication of the Kirtland temple in 1836 and was included in the first Mormon hymnal. To this day it is one of the most beloved hymns of the Latter-day Saint movement. Hope you enjoy! The Spirit of God like a fire is burning; The latter day glory begins to come forth; The visions and blessings of old are returning; The angels are coming to visit the earth. We'll sing & we'll shout with the armies of heaven: Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb! Let glory to them in the highest be given, Henceforth and forever: amen and amen! The Lord is extending the saints' understanding- Restoring their judges and all as at first; The knowledge and power of God are expanding The vail o'er the earth is beginning to burst. We'll sing & we'll shout with the armies of heaven: Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb! Let glory to them in the highest be given, Henceforth and forever: amen and amen! We call in our solemn assemblies, in spirit, To spread forth the kingdom of heaven abroad, That we through our faith may begin to inherit The visions, and blessings, and glories of God. We'll sing & we'll shout with the armies of heaven: Hosanna, hosanna to God and the Lamb! Let glory to them in the highest be given, Henceforth and forever: amen and amen!
