When you hear about all the Democrats that are not going to vote for ObamaCare, remember, not all of them are against the government take over of healthcare. Some just think it doesn’t go far enough.

Democrats like Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) think that it should cover illegal aliens also:

Gutierrez, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) in which he serves as chairman of its Immigration Task Force, said the caucus still has concerns over the extent to which the healthcare bill excludes illegal immigrants as well as legal residents from receiving benefits in the healthcare plan.

“They are enough to say I can’t support this bill,” Gutierrez said during an appearance on MSNBC.

Gutierrez and other members of the CHC to express concerns about the immigration provisions in the bill, about which they’ve begun to speak out more forcefully as a vote on healthcare approaches.

The Illinois congressman, who was an early supporter of President Barack Obama’s run for the Oval Office, said that the immigration provisions were very unlike the president, and suggested someone in the White House had urged him to back more stringent provisions on immigration.

Yeah, that someone was his Czar of Common Freaking Sense.

It’s bad enough to loot all the taxpayers for the recipient, but to dole out money to people who aren’t even citizens would be a game changer. This bill wouldn’t be where it is today if it covered illegals.

That doesn’t mean if it passes it won’t somewhere down the road. Once it’s passed, all bets are off. It’s the slippery slope to single payer then.

Think about that as you prep and review your taxes.

A Florida School Board member is facing charges of racism after calling a group of rowdy students hoodlums.

Yeah, that’s about it:

Pinellas School Board chairwoman Janet Clark is coming under fire for using the term “hoodlums” to describe a small group of chronically disruptive students in county schools.

Board members Mary Brown and Linda Lerner criticized Clark at Tuesday night’s board meeting. And now Ray Tampa, president of the St. Petersburg branch of the NAACP, said Clark’s refusal to apologize has made things worse.

“I was disgusted with her response,” Tampa said Wednesday.

Disgusted? Maybe it’s worse than I thought. What exactly did this racist say:

“So much time is taken up with addressing hoodlums, with kids who don’t want to be in school,” she said. She also said, “We are talking about a small number of children.”

GREAT SCOTT!

Wait, what?

How, exactly is that racist?

It does not appear the origins of the word “hoodlum” have any ties to race or ethnicity. It is an adaptation of a German word that meant “ragamuffin” or “good for nothing,” said Michael Adams, an associate professor of English at Indiana University and author of the 2009 book, Slang: The People’s Poetry.

But the meanings of words can change, Adams said. Over time, “hoodlum” may have become a more racially identifiable word, in part because of the slang term “hood,” short for neighborhood, and also because hood and hoodlum began to be applied to African-American youths by white people, he said.

“Hoodlum, when you look it up in the dictionary, doesn’t look so bad,” Adams said. But when people in the black community hear it, “they associate it with words and meanings other than (those from) 1871 or whenever it was the word first appeared in print.”

The professor said the case reminds him of the uproar from a 1999 incident when a Washington D.C., city official used the term “niggardly” to describe how he was managing budget cuts. It means “miserly,” but another employee took it as a racial slur.

So, it’s racist because some ignorant people think it’s racist. And now this woman has to take heat because other people are too uneducated to understand what a word means.

Is that about it?

No. Here’s who started the racism charge:

The International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement — better known as the Uhurus — called for Clark to resign for the statement, which it viewed as racist. Clark is white.

Case dismissed.

I guarantee the people involved in this group are far more racist than Janet Clark, and I don’t even know Janet Clark. I mean, this is the same group that held a vigil for Lovelle Mixon, a man who shot and killed four Oakland police officers.

That alone destroys their credibility.

I’m no friend of the public school system, or school boards for that matter, but I’ll back this chairman against these fools any day.

Homes in Detroit are selling for $100, but realtors say that if you offered 10 percent of that, you’d have a deal:

He said there were homes on the market for $100 (£61), but an offer of just $10 (£6) would be likely to be accepted.

Speaking on a BBC 2 documentary, Requiem for Detroit, to be screened on Saturday, Mr Prophit said: “The property is listed by the city of Detroit as being worth $35,000 (£22,000), but the bank know that is impossible to ask.

“This part of town has got a lot of bad press in the media because it featured in Eminem’s film ‘Eight Mile’, but that particular road is fifteen minutes up the road and that is a long way in Detroit.”

There’s your savior. Get Marshall up there and have him buy all these cribs up for his posse. Bring in MTV cribs and turn that neighbor out!

I mean, what’s so bad about Detroit:

“Detroit is a city in decline. We are known as the Murder Capital of America, because of the number of deaths each year.”

Right.

Well, keep electing people like Kwame Kilpatrick and see how that works for you. I’m sure Jennifer Granholm has a perfect solution for the problem. I’m guessing it involves looting the taxpayers in about 49 other states to fix the mess Democrats have made in one.

The grand scheme to curb carbon emissions on a global scale works like this:

• Large industry A has a cap put on its carbon emissions, generally lower than they are currently producing, forcing them to cut their production of carbon.
• Small industry B has also has a cap put on its emissions, but it is much higher, allowing for more emissions than they could possibly produce.
• Large industry A either lowers it’s output, or it exceeds its cap, requiring it to buy carbon offsets.
• Carbon offsets are sold by Small Industry B. They sell the carbon they are allowed to produce but never will. At the same time, they get a nice chunk of change for doing essentially nothing.

Generally, “Large Industry A” means developed nations and “Small Industry B” means undeveloped nations. This results in a massive transfer of wealth from the rich countries to the poor countries. It’s by design. It’s no secret:

In 2000, then French President Jacques Chirac said the UN’s Kyoto Protocol represented “the first component of an authentic global governance.” Former EU Environment Minister Margot Wallstrom said, “Kyoto is about the economy, about leveling the playing field for big businesses worldwide.” Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper once dismissed Kyoto as a “socialist scheme.

So why, when everything seems to be going according to plan, is this environmental group so upset?

Businesses and regulators should be “striving for the highest environmental standards, rather than the minimum level of compliance,” said the British-based nonprofit organization, which campaigns for stricter cap-and-trade rules to require companies to make bigger cuts.

Sandbag says European polluters are becoming heavily dependent on buying U.N.-monitored offsets, which pay for solar panels in India or environmental cleanup in China, in exchange for canceling out part of the company’s emissions. As a result, the company can avoid buying pollution permits from the EU’s cap-and-trade program.

Spanish energy company Endesa SA bought offsets worth a quarter of its total emissions, Sandbag said, while German steel maker ThyssenKrupp AG offset 29.6 percent of its emissions and Italian power firm Enel SpA purchased offsets for 12.4 percent of its carbon output.

The group said its data came from a European Union database, but it did not say how much money the companies had spent on the offsets.

Sandbag urged the EU executive to tighten its cap-and-trade program, saying more needs to be done to make sure offsets are not a “replacement for domestic action.”

They’re upset because they made the mistake of thinking this was about the environment. It happens.

Reality is, this is about pulling as much money from developed nations as they can, then redistributing it to the undeveloped nations.

Why do you think they made the cutoff date 1990? What happened then?

The USSR fell, and all those Soviet Bloc countries with their archaic, black smoke belching coal fired power plants were set free. Think of the carbon emission they were generating with that level of technology. Fast forward to today, they are getting more advanced, but their carbon emissions are set to the good old days.

Therefore, since they are creating less carbon, but have a high cap, they can sell and sell and sell. To the advanced countries who helped free them from the tyranny of Communism.

Just to clarify, the capitalist countries who freed the communist countries are now being forced to pay money to the ex-communist countries via a scheme Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper called “socialist.”

Makes sense.

The wife and daughter of Sen. Harry Reid were in a terrible car accident today. Reid’s wife, Landra, broke her back and neck in the accident. His daughter Lana has a neck injury and some facial lacerations.

Both women are being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital in suburban Virginia.

While Reid’s spokesman says neither woman’s injuries are life threatening, they are facing some serious pain and recovery time.

My prayers go out to both women, Sen. Reid and the rest of his family.

If there is any doubt in your mind that bacon is awesome, a veritable meat candy, this should lay it to rest:

If it wasn’t for holy smoke filling the room, the slumbering bank worker might never have woken up.

He quickly turned the heat off and lifted the food – to find a slightly crispy Christ staring back at him, complete with distinctive flowing locks, beard and gentle gaze.

Generally when I read one of these stories about Jesus appearing in a tuna sandwich or the Virgin Mary showing up via a stain in old drywall, I end up looking like Willam Black in Mallrats trying to find the schooner.

But not this one:

Kid’s got kind of a Jimmy Fallon thing going on, but that’s beside the point. Behold the power of bacon.

In my opinion, it looks a little too good. But since it was made with delicious bacon, I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt.

A highly organized group of openly communist activists who shun brand name beverages created by the evil capitalist corporations and drink only beverages produced within their own community.  They feel that while their beer isn’t as high a quality as the beers created in the free market, theirs is morally superior and should be foisted upon the bourgeois, who will learn to appreciate communist beer… once the shortages make it rare.

4. The Billy Beer Party

This group is comprised entirely of the 12 guys in Georgia who still think Jimmy Carter was a great President…including Jimmy.

5. The Tears of Gaia Party

You’ll see this group carpooling in their Toyota Prius’ to the next construction site they plan to set on fire.  They are committed to their collective delusion that humanity is evil and destroying the solar system with global warming, or climate change… climate instability? Whatever the latest name is. And they only drink melted glacier water because of the effect it has on their aura.

6. The Dos Equis Party

Not so much a political activist group, as a group of “undocumented migrant workers” having a picnic at the park between sub minimum wage shifts at Nancy Pelosi’s vineyard.  Their main platform consists of labeling anyone who thinks border fences are a good thing as racist, and eating corn on a stick

7. The Chamomile Party

They claim to be Tea Party Patriots, but as we all know, Chamomile is Tea In Name Only. These are the ones wearing birkenstocks and shoving people while their friends take pictures for the Daily Kos.

8. The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Party

These parties are by invitation only and are attended by limousine liberals who enjoy standing around, sipping expensive wines and eating cheese while discussing the terrible state of America.  Usually the solutions involve the collection of someone elses money by force and the wasted in government bureaucracy.

But at least they are doing something, so they can feel better making $20 million for spending six weeks making a movie

9. The None Of Your Damn Business What We Drink Party

This scampy group is composed entirely of Union Thugs who may or may not be suffering from ‘roid rage, but will kick your ass if you so much as think about trying to get into that town hall meeting.  So don’t even think of breathing loud.

Small liberal party that goes around demonstrating what they think the rest of America can do if they reject the collective.  If you don’t get this reference, don’t research it.  Just forget this one and consider this the “Top 9 New Political Beverage Parties.”

After all the hate mail I get (the last one a nice screed on what a wonderful human being Che Guevara was and what a low life I am), it’s nice to hear a kind word. Today, while checking my stats, as I am wont to do, I found a link to the United States of Earth.

Here’s what I found:

There are many unsung heroes as we call them. Since President Obama took office there has been an awakening in the hearts and minds of the people. Here is one individual who gives it his all and who is dedicated to helping America avoid the collectivist horror show that we now face. That horror is now unavoidable in some form and it will be people like Duane Lester who will help guide us away from the Progressive and Marxist policies being adopted in Washington D.C.

Here’s one of those peeks inside the mind of a true believer, a follower of Marx, whether they realize it or not. Even though this parent feels she is doing what is best for his child, she wonders if she shouldn’t sacrifice her child’s education for the greater good.

Not my words…hers:

My family lives on the west side of Los Angeles. I face the same choice as many urban families: Will the kids attend public or private schools? Should one minimize opportunities for one’s own child in service to the greater good?

In our desire to protect our children physically and academically, we send them to very expensive schools that are inherently segregated ethnically and economically. We, being white, educated, and comparatively affluent, are the agenda-setters in society. The agenda does not include fierce protection of the public school system we value in general terms but abandon in our own specific cases.

And so we’ve let down our future fellow citizens by turning our backs on them. And we’ve certainly let the government off the hook yet again, by individually shouldering the burden of quality education for our own children and letting the public schools crumble. Advice?

The collectivist laments providing the best for her child at the expense of the “greater good.” This is a great example of left wing thinking.

She doesn’t understand how this thinking has created the state the public school is in. Why did she choose the private school? Because it’s simply a better school.

Why are private schools better? Competition and the bottom line.

The owners of private schools want to earn a profit. In order to do that, they need to sell their product, in this case a good education. In order to provide a good education, they need to hire the best teachers they can afford. If the teachers they have don’t meet their standards, they find employment elsewhere. Then, the administrators minimize the costs of operating the schools while maximizing the environment students learn in.

Then they compete against the other private schools for your money. If the price is right and you like their product, you buy.

Now, in the public school system, there is no reason to do any of this.

Public schools don’t worry about making a profit. If they need more money, and they always seem to need more money, they can just raise taxes. If they can’t raise taxes, they’ll cut programs, or get more money from the federal government.

They don’t need to compete against anyone. They just have money budgeted for them.

This results in schools that don’t pay teachers as well as private school teachers. Generally, not always, but generally this results in the better teachers working for private schools. The physical school is might not be as nice as the private school, and the equipment is usually older. And administration costs are astronomical because of the immense bureaucracies.

This is the capitalist, free market system at work. The same capitalist, free market system that collectivist thinkers, like the one above, find to be evil. Everyone in the private school system is doing what is best for them, not for the collective. It results are obvious.

If they could accept this, then more students would be attending private schools via vouchers and more students would be receiving a better education.

But rather than rejoice that such schools exist and are available, collectivists consider sacrificing their children to the collective.

Such thinking is disgusting.

You have no such obligation to the collective. Your obligation is to your child. That’s what you put first.

Tom Hanks has brought more attention to the stories of World War II than one man can be expected to bring. However, a recent article in TIme magazine makes me wonder what he is going to do with stories from the Pacific Theater.

The Pacific, his new 10-hour epic about the Pacific theater in World War II, plays out against a very different backdrop, when the country is weary of war and American exceptionalism is a much tougher sell. World War II in the European theater was a case of massive armies arrayed against an unambiguous evil. The Pacific war was mainly fought by isolated groups of men and was overlaid by a sense that our foes were fundamentally different from us. In that sense, the war in the Pacific bears a closer relation to the complex war on terrorism the U.S. is waging now, making the new series a trickier prospect but one with potential for more depth and resonance. “Certainly, we wanted to honor U.S. bravery in The Pacific,” Hanks says. “But we also wanted to have people say, ‘We didn’t know our troops did that to Japanese people.’ “

Emphasis mine.

Let’s start with the first bolded section of text. What do they mean “different from us?”

He doesn’t see the series as simply eye-opening history. He hopes it offers Americans a chance to ponder the sacrifices of our current soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. “From the outset, we wanted to make people wonder how our troops can re-enter society in the first place,” Hanks says. “How could they just pick up their lives and get on with the rest of us? Back in World War II, we viewed the Japanese as ‘yellow, slant-eyed dogs’ that believed in different gods. They were out to kill us because our way of living was different. We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different. Does that sound familiar, by any chance, to what’s going on today?”

Ok, back the truck up, Hanks.

We didn’t want to annihilate the Japanese because they were different. We wanted to annihilate the Japanese for this:

2,402 personnel were killed. 1,282 were wounded. As if that were not reason enough, consider the story of Ralph Ignatowski, as told by Iwo Jima flag raiser, John Bradley, from the book, “Flags of Our Fathers“:

“I have tried so hard to block this out. To forget it. We could choose a buddy to go in with. My buddy was a guy from Milwaukee. We were pinned down in one area. Someone elsewhere fell injured and I ran to help out, and when I came back my buddy was gone. I couldn’t figure out where he was. I could see all around, but he wasn’t there. And nobody knew where he was.

A few days later someone yelled that they’d found him. They called me over because I was a corpsman. The Japanese had pulled him underground and tortured him. His fingernails… his tongue… It was terrible. I’ve tried hard to forget all this.”

Many years later, in researching my father’s life, I asked Cliff Langley, Doc’s co-corpsman, about the discovery of Iggy’s body. Langley told me it looked to him as though Ralph Ignatowski had endured just about every variety of physical cruelty imaginable.

“Both his arms were fractured,” Langley said. “They just hung there there like arms on a broken doll. He had been bayoneted repeatedly. The back of his head had been smashed in.”

Other reports say Iggy “had been tortured in the cave by the Japanese for three days, during which time they also cut out his eyes, cut off his ears, smashed in his teeth, and cut off his genitalia and stuffed them into his mouth.”

in 1946, Time Magazine detailed another instance of Japanese war crimes – cannibalism:

By 1945, when the blockaded Bonins had no fresh meat, he hatched the idea that liver would soothe his gnawing stomach pains. The islands’ commander, fat, bullnecked Lieut. General Yoshio Tachibana, had ordered all captured U.S. flyers executed. That was the chance Matoba had been waiting for.

Cannibal Feast. At least two aviators were beheaded publicly by Matoba’s own 308th Battalion, to buoy the troops’ morale. In each case, the liver was cut from the still-warm bodies, delivered to Matoba’s cook, cut into strips and served in sukiyaki. At one gay party, where the cannibal dish was washed down with sake, Tachibana was Matoba’s guest. That night, during a U.S. air attack, Matoba boasted that enemy bombs could not hurt him because he had eaten the enemy’s flesh.

Other unit commanders who wanted a morale-booster for their own men were given the privilege of staging the executions of flyers captured in their bivouac areas. On at least two occasions the livers of the executed men were served in the officers’ messes while strips of flesh cut from the legs were used to flavor enlisted men’s soup.

Do I need to go into what happened on the Battan Death March?

Will Hanks cover that, so viewers can say, “‘We didn’t know our troops the Japanese troops did that to Japanese people our people.’ “?

Or will this be a rewriting of history? Let’s hope Tom does right by the men who fought and died on those islands, so far away from home.
