Trader Joe's Eligible Shoppers Can Claim Class Action Settlement Money

Trader Joe’s has agreed to pay $7.4 million to settle a class action lawsuit over receipts that allegedly exposed too many digits from customers’ payment cards, according to the settlement website and court-approved notice in Keim v. Trader Joe’s Company.

The notice says the class covers account holders whose credit or debit card was used at a Trader Joe’s store between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, and whose receipt was formatted to show the first six and last four digits of the card number. “Trader Joe’s (through its insurer) has agreed to pay $7,400,000,” the official notice says.

The settlement notice says no one has reported identity theft tied to the issue, and that identity theft is not required to file a claim.

“The Court in charge of this case still has to decide whether to approve the settlement,” the notice says, so payments are not final yet.

The court’s preliminary approval order says the parties estimate the class includes 757,663 people, based on discovery and expert analysis that Trader Joe’s did not dispute.

Eligible shoppers can submit claims through the settlement website, by mail if they have a Class ID number, or by calling the settlement administrator.

The current deadline to submit a valid claim, opt out, or object is June 9, 2026, and the court has set a fairness hearing for August 10, 2026.

The notice estimates an individual payment of about $102.45, though the final amount will depend on how many valid claims are approved.

The settlement fund will cover claim payments, attorneys’ fees, expenses, notice, and administration costs, and the notice says any unclaimed money will not return to Trader Joe’s.

Class counsel is seeking up to $2,466,666.67 in fees, plus expenses, and a $10,000 incentive award for named plaintiff Brian Keim.

If the court grants final approval and appeals do not delay the deal, valid claimants will receive a pro rata share of what remains after those deductions.

Perplexity Releases Personal Computer, Turning a Mac Mini Into an Always-On AI Agent

Perplexity has begun rolling out Personal Computer, a new AI system that runs continuously on a dedicated Mac mini and integrates directly with a user's local files, native apps, and workflows.

The company announced the release today via its official X account, stating it is now available to all Perplexity Max subscribers and those who joined the earlier waitlist.

Personal Computer builds directly on Perplexity Computer, the cloud-based agent system the company introduced on February 25.

Where the earlier version operated in isolated cloud environments to handle multi-step tasks across models and tools, the new local version adds persistent access to a user's own machine.

According to the original announcement in Perplexity's March 11 blog post titled "Everything is Computer," the system "runs on a dedicated Mac mini that can run 24/7, connected to your local apps and Perplexity’s secure servers." It functions as "a digital proxy for you, working constantly on your behalf and allowing you to orchestrate all of your tools, tasks, and files from any device, anywhere."

Setup requires the updated Perplexity Mac app, which is available for macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Once installed on a Mac mini, Personal Computer gains secure access to any designated folders for reading, searching, and writing files.

It can interact with native Mac applications including Mail, Finder, Slack, Messages, Notes, Calendar, and the company's own Comet browser.

Users can initiate tasks from an iPhone or any other device, then hand off to the Mac mini to continue working in the background with 2FA protection.

The system uses Perplexity's multi-model orchestration layer, routing subtasks across more than 20 frontier models as needed while maintaining a single conversational interface.

A dedicated taskbar shortcut on the Mac summons the agent at any time. Voice mode allows natural spoken commands, and the agent remains context-aware of the active application.

Security controls include explicit user approval for any sensitive action, a complete audit trail for every session, and an immediate kill switch.

Perplexity AI emphasized these safeguards in the initial March announcement, noting that the product operates in a secure environment designed to prevent unauthorized access or unintended operations.

Today's rollout of Personal Computer by Perplexity marks the shift from waitlist testing to broader availability for paid users of the AI platform.

Perplexity has not disclosed exact pricing details beyond tying access to the Max subscription tier, nor has it confirmed Windows or non-Apple hardware support at launch.

The release positions Personal Computer as a hybrid local-cloud agent that remains under the user's direct control while leveraging Perplexity's existing search accuracy, research tools, and agent capabilities.

Google Messages beta reveals Chat Customization including Custom Photo Backgrounds

Google is testing deeper personalization options for RCS conversations in its Messages app.

Code strings discovered in the latest beta build point to a new "Custom" theme section that would let users upload their own photos for chat backgrounds, adjust bubble colors separately, and preview changes before applying them.

The findings come from an APK teardown of Google Messages version messages.android_20260410_02_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic, first reported by Android Authority on April 14.

Among the strings are "Upload photo", "Your photos", "Theme Preview", "Custom", "Backgrounds", "Bubble Color", and "Apply".

The references to "Your photos" suggest integration with Google Photos for selecting images to use as wallpapers.

Right now, customization in Google Messages remains limited. For RCS chats only, users can access a "Change colors" option through the three-dot menu or by tapping the contact or group name.

Samsung is preparing a significant storage upgrade for its next flagship lineup with the Galaxy S27 Ultra positioned to become the first phone to ship with UFS 5.0 technology.

The timing aligns with Samsung’s earlier internal roadmap, which projected the debut on the Galaxy S27 line after incremental UFS 4.x refinements in the S25 and S26 generations.
