UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests

Allen ISD will be hosting the Region XXV High School and Middle School UIL Orchestra Contests – we encourage all family and friends to come support our orchestras! The performances are open to anyone and you may also watch the sightreading portion of the contest.

The High School Contest will be held February 28 through March 1 at the Allen HS Performing Arts Center. Click here for the schedule.

Scheduling Orchestra 2012 – 2013

Even though the current school year is not over, students grades 6 – 11 will soon be scheduling their classes for the 2012 – 2013 school year!

Current 6th grade and 7th grade students and parents
Elementary students will have a chance to hear your Middle School Orchestra at the Jan. Concerts:
23-Jan 6th grade Orch. (Ford/Curtis) AHS Cafeteria (Ford – arr.at 5:30 p.m.) (Curtis – arr. at 6:45 p.m.)
24-Jan 6th grade Orch. (Ereckson) Ereckson MS Cafeteria (arrive at 5:30 p.m.)

8th grade orchestra students will have a chance to perform together while the parents have an informational meeting with the High School Directors. The 8th grade Orientation will be held at the Lowery Freshman Center. A short concert of our 8th graders will follow!

We also encourage ALL Orchestra Students to consider Advanced Music for Orchestra. This is not a separate class, but extra requirements which allows students to receive a 4.5 (10th grade) or 5.0 (11th – 12th grade) for orchestra.
We will be revising the Advanced Course Guide for next year, but you can get an overview from this year’s guide:

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the PAC

The Allen HS Performing Arts Center presents the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in Concert – February 10, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. The DSO will be led by Dr. Paul Phillips and feature works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Wagner. Tickets are available for $20 through the DSO Website. Please help us welcome the Dallas Symphony Orchestra to our new home!

Performing Arts Center Gala – January 14

Allen ISD will celebrate the opening of the new Allen ISD Performing Arts Center with dinner and a special performance on Saturday, January 14. The PAC Gala will include a gourmet dinner prepared by Allen High School’s Culinary Arts students at 6:30 p.m. followed by performances at 8 p.m. by the Allen High School Wind Ensemble, Chorale, Chamber & Sinfonia Orchestras and Elite Dance Troupe. Student artwork also will be on exhibit in the new art gallery at the PAC.

The evening finale will be the premiere of a work commissioned by AHS Band, Choir and Orchestra Booster Clubs in dedication of the new Performing Arts Center composed by David Kneupper and conducted by Gary Lewis. The finale will be performed by the combined Allen High School music groups, band, chorale and orchestra.

AHS/LFC Winter Concert – December 8

Winter Concert Details:

Performance held at the AHS Performing Arts Center

7:00 p.m. – AHS Concert and Camerata (combined)
7:30 p.m. – LFC Chamber, Sinfonia, and Concert (separate)
8:30 p.m. – AHS Chamber and Sinfonia (combined)

Group Pictures for yearbook will be taken in the PAC foyer after each Orchestra’s performance (mandatory)

Individual Pictures are optional after Group Pictures - will be taken in the AHS Choir Hall (in H Hall)

Poinsettias on sale ($10) after concert (1st come/1st served). Concert will be finished by 9:00 p.m. for pick-up.

North Texas Food Bank Drive! Bring: Gift cards to local grocery stores, Spaghettios, Soups, Canned Fruit, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Crackers, Canned meat (Tuna & chicken). Deliver to AHS Booster Club on the north side of the PAC foyer.

TMEA All-State Members – 2011

Congratulations to our newest – and youngest ever – TMEA All-State members! Jennifer Cho earned 21st chair, violin (Symphony Orchestra) and William Lin earned 38th chair, cello (String Orchestra) Both students competed against hundreds of 9-12 grade orchestra students in the State of Texas and will perform on 2/11/2012 in San Antonio during the TMEA Convention. Membership in the TMEA All-State Orchestra is the most prestigious award for Texas Orchestra Students. They are also the first in Allen ISD Orchestra history to earn a spot in an All-State Orchestra as Lowery Freshmen Center Orchestra student members. Great job Jennifer and William!

Hardin-Simmons Orchestra Concert – Free! Nov. 17

Please plan to attend the Hardin-Simmons University Orchestra Concert on November 17th, 7:00 p.m. at the Allen ISD Performing Arts Center – admission is free! The HSU Orchestra will be performing music by Borodin, Mussorgsky, and Saint-Saens. This is a wonderful chance to hear a college orchestra in a performance! Flyer available here!

Instrument Step-Up

Students who have not upgraded their instrument should look into “stepping up” to an instrument which is appropriate for higher level students. Dallas Strings will have a “step-up” evening on November 15th for students to play instruments so they can feel and hear the difference! The event starts at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m.

Congratulations to Ereckson, Ford, LFC and AHS orchestra students on their first concert in the new Performing Arts Center at Allen HS! Thank You Students and Parents for a wonderful event. We invite our orchestra family members to purchase a personal ad for your student to be published in our concert programs. The MS and HS Orchestras will use one concert program for all MS and HS Concerts, and we are accepting ads to feature your student(s)! Please download the form and return to your orchestra director. You may email David DeVoto to send any e-files for the ad.

LFC and HS students are selling advertising to companies for their Spring Trip accounts. Companies may contact David DeVoto to advertise if a HS or LFC Orchestra Student has not contacted you.
