Mary Kassian at Baptist Press: Forget "his" and "hers." Sweden has introduced a new, gender-neutral pronoun: "hen." The word was added to the online version of the country's National Encyclopedia days after International Women's Day. (In Swedish, "he" is "han" and "she" is "hon.") It was sparked by Sweden's first ever gender-neutral children's book, "Kivi och Monsterhund" (Kivi and Monsterdog), Slate.com reported. The child, "Kivi," whose gender is non-specified, wants a dog for "hen's" birthday.

They were there in reaction to the May 13 sermon by Charles Worley, pastor of Providence Road Baptist Church . . . Someone set a fire under an air conditioning unit at Providence Road Baptist Church Saturday night. The church was not seriously damaged and was able to hold services on Sunday morning.
“It got hot enough to melt the insulation,” said Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid.

That would keep the existing policy in place for months if not years. "This will end up at the Supreme Court at some point and we're confident and hopeful that the law will be upheld," said Dale Schowengerdt, the group's legal counsel.

Back in 1965, there were 4.6 workers contributing to Medicare for every person receiving benefits. Today, there are only 3.3 workers, and in 2030, that number will fall to 2.3. That falling ratio is leading to the program's insolvency. And with longer life expectancy (which of course is a good thing), seniors today are collecting benefits for almost three times as long as when the program first started.

"The fact that the pastor may be responding to a comment from the president doesn't make the biblical comments off-limits," Stanley said. The ADF campaigns against U.S. law that prohibits pastors from using the pulpit to oppose political candidates. "At ADF, we believe that restriction is unconstitutional," Stanley said.
