Ava is my newest Baby Steps client. I’m very excited about getting to photograph her every 3 months for the first year of her life! I love these sessions because of the drastic changes that happen the first year of a babe’s life and getting to experience a lot of firsts with them. I was there when she took her first breath and I’m excited to see her sit and stand for the first time. I’m always amazed of how much they change the 3 months between our visits and how attached I become to them. I always look forward to these sessions, and with a cutie like Ava, who wouldn’t?

I have been so fortunate with the weather cooperating for outdoor sessions recently, and this session was no exception. I couldn’t have asked for better weather or a more fun family to spend the afternoon with. Lynn, all your stressing over clothing choices paid off – everyone looked great!

Pumpkin Patch

Fall is one of my favourite times of the year. The colours are beautiful, I get to pull out my beloved sweaters and vests, and there is no snow on the ground. Some of the drawback of living in a small town is that we miss out on some big city activities, but Norm and Linda at Thyme for Tea have brought the big city excitement of a pumpkin patch to Williams Lake. They bring in 1000 lbs of pumpkins and spread them out in the back field of Thyme for Tea so everyone can find their perfect pumpkin. They have hay rides, snacks and yummy pumpkin spice tea, little photo props set up and create a wonderful family environment. Peyton loves it and is so excited to go every year. It is all done by donation and the money goes towards literacy. As a teacher and a librarian this is close to my heart and the fact that they are promoting family, I couldn’t be happier. The weather was warm and sunny and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer weekend.

Baby Manuela Raya

Because baby Raya’s gender was being kept a secret until she was born, she was referred to as “Manuela”. When I first heard the name, I must have had a strange look on my face because Tanya quickly reassured me baby’s name would not be Manuela. She was an absolute angel for her entire session and I couldn’t have asked for a more helpful or cooperative big brother. Congratulations on your beautiful family!

Welcome Baby Raya

I love my job. What could be better than sharing someone’s first breath and being able to experience the joy and excitement of parent’s meeting their new baby for the first time? I was so excited to be in the OR with Tanya and Martin for the second time, and I think I cried just as much for this birth as I did with their first baby.

The biggest compliment I can receive is having repeat clients. This is round 2 of maternity photos for Tanya and Martin, but Taylor’s first “real” experience with them. He was so happy the entire time and is very excited to be a big brother. Everything fell together perfectly for this session – the weather, the setting, the clothing and the amazing clients. As much as I love new clients, old clients are like your favourite sweater – you know what to expect and it is comfortable. Pregnancy looks great on Tanya and she had so many great ideas with the location I wish I had another 2 hours to spend with her. The camera loves her (Martin and Taylor too!) and I am so excited to be in the OR next Wednesday to photograph baby #2′s grand entrance into the world. I’m sure I will have just as many tears as I did when Taylor took his first breath. Thank you again, Tanya and Martin for inviting me to be there to document this incredible event.

What To Wear September

I am so far behind with my blog! It has been soooo long since I have posted anything that when I sat down at the computer to do this post, I had to try my password 3 times before I remembered it! I have a huge backlog of photos and no idea what to write for my first post back, I thought I might as well do a What to Wear post to help clients with my upcoming fall sessions. Now that I am back to work and seem to be getting settled with all the changes at my school, I have made my “Back to School, New Year’s Resolution” – I am going to be diligent with my blog posts, and actually put blogging in my schedule so I don’t fall so far behind again.

Every so often I have clients I immediately click with and John and Jenn are definitely those clients. We had such a great time during their maternity session and we all laughed… a lot. I am looking forward to being there when they welcome their babe into the world – hopefully for Jenn’s sake it is sooner than later.

Welcome Baby Aubrey

Baby Aubrey’s session was to be her Mummy’s maternity session, but she had other ideas. Her Mummy is my cousin who is like a sister to me. She lives in Merritt, so I was going to stop by on my way home from Victoria to do Lindsay’s maternity photos a week before her due date. Because this is baby #1 for her, I didn’t even consider it would be a newborn session, so I brought all my maternity wraps and dresses and not a single newborn prop. Baby Aubrey made her grand entrance into the world in Kamloops, and I was able to be there two days after she was born. Before Lindsay and Ryan took Aubrey home to Merritt, they brought her to my parent’s house in Kamloops so I was able to do her newborn session. I have to admit, I was a little stressed about this session, not only because this was family but I was so unprepared. I stripped my parents bed down and padded it with towels to catch any accidents and put on the white sheets – not my typical newborn setup. I then raided my Mum’s closet to find anything I could use as a prop, backdrop or blanket and had even run to Michaels to get some yarn to whip up a hat. In the end, everything worked out well and Aubrey slept like a champ. This session also had a special place in my heart because it took me back to the time my Grandma had her first real cuddle with Peyton out of the hospital, and I’m so happy I was there for her first real cuddle with Aubrey. Grandma wouldn’t have missed this time with Aubrey for the world.
