Kings Assistant Says DeMarcus Cousins Needs to Mature

Sacramento Kings assistant coach Alex English said in an interview Tuesday that former Kentucky star DeMarcus Cousins should focus on maturing and learning more about the game this summer.

Last season, Cousins was given 17 technical fouls, ejected 4 times and suspended 3 times.

“He’s still a very young player, he’s still got a lot to learn,” English said. “I feel that should be his goal this summer, maturing, (and) learning more about the game.”

Cousins, who will be entering his fourth season in the league, has always had on and off the court drama between teammates and other athletes.

This past season, Cousins was ejected for hitting Mike Dunleavy in the head with an elbow, and for smacking Vince Carter in the face with his forearm.

Cousins is easily one of the most talented players in the league, but all the extra antics that come along with his play has seriously dampened his public image.

“He wants to do well, I think he’s got a ways to go as far as maturing into that type of player that’s going to be a leader every night,” English added.

Daniel Orton to Headline Lupus Walk and 5K Run in OKC

Former Kentucky big man Daniel Orton will serve as the walk ambassador of the Lupus Walk and 5K run to End Lupus NOW on June 1 in Oklahoma City.

Orton lost his mother, Carolyn, to lupus in February 2009.

Suspended guard Zay Jackson is set to return to the Murray State Racers and will likely be the team's starting point guard in 2013-14.

Murray State coach Steve Prohm was in Chicago at the pre-draft combine to watch Isaiah Canaan, his veteran point guard who is sure to be a first-round lock and has the potential to be the next Damian Lillard -- a lower-profile school gem who stars in the league. But Prohm said he has a replacement set -- Zay Jackson. The suspended guard is cleared to join the Racers and be the starting point guard next season. Jackson served 49 days in jail after hitting a man with his car in a Walmart parking lot on Sept. 10. Prohm said Jackson practiced with the team once he was released from jail. He said there wasn't a judicial review board and that the decision for Jackson to come back was made by the athletic department. Prohm said Jackson had a 2.75 grade-point average and has not been an issue since he returned. The Racers will have depth at the position with the eligibility in December of Clemson transfer T.J. Sapp. Prohm isn't pushing the schedule in this transition year and will simply play 29 games without a tournament.

John Brannen Promoted to Associate Head Coach at Alabama

Alabama has promoted former Morehead and Marshall star John Brannen to associate head coach. Brannen replaces Dan Hipsher, who left to take a head coaching job recently.

Louisville Magic Never Seriously Challenged on Way to 11th Grade State AAU Title

The Louisville Magic, coached by former University of Louisville player Ellis Myles, dominated the entire weekend as they rolled to the 11th grade state AAU championship.

PRP's LaMontray Harris scored 18 points to lead the Magic to a 79-44 win over Shining Stars in the championship game. Ballard's Kelan Martin, who the Magic picked up for this weekend only, chipped in 16 points. Louisville commit Quentin Snider added 15.

The Magic were never seriously challenged in the tournament as they won all games by an average of 34.5 points per game.

Madison Central's Ken-Jah Bosley has officially signed with Kentucky Wesleyan College for the 2013-14 season.

Second team all-state guard Ken-Jah Bosley from 2013 State Champion Madison Central High School in Richmond, Ky., signed a national letter-of-intent to continue his basketball and academic career at eight-time NCAA Division II Champion Kentucky Wesleyan College, according to new KWC head men's basketball coach Happy Osborne.

Bosley, a 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, led the Indians in scoring (19.0), three-pointers (81) and free throw shooting (77.0). The Louisville Courier-Journal and Lexington Herald-Leader both chose him to their all-state second team.

He finished second in three-point shooting (34.7), third in rebounding (4.4) and fifth in field goal percentage (45.0) in 33 starts while helping Head Coach Allen Feldhaus to a 32-5 record.

"First and foremost Ken-Jah's a champion because he knows what takes to reach the ultimate goal," Osborne stated. "He knows what it is like to wear championship ring and wants to repeat the experience.

"What I love about him the most is he wants to be here at Kentucky Wesleyan. He knows more about our championship tradition than I do.

"Ken-Jah's a very strong and athletic with great lateral speed and toughness as anyone can tell from his selection as a Courier Journal second-team all-state football player this past season.

"He has hit big shot after big shot after big shot throughout his career. His signing is big for because we want to have the best high school players in the state come to Kentucky Wesleyan College."

Madison Central's Quan Taylor is Headed to Georgetown College

Madison Central High School's Quan Taylor has signed with Georgetown College for the 2013-14 season.

Taylor, who helped lead Central to the state championship, is a 6'6" forward with freakish athletic ability.

Lex18.com has a great article about what Taylor has dealt with to get to this point:

"Well it's just like the semifinal tournament game and he shows up late. Over something stupid -- because he wanted to buy those neon green socks," Feldhaus recalled. "But you have to deal with that because we don't let anyone else get away with that. That's why we sat him on the bench for the first 4 or 5 minutes of the game and make sure he learns his lesson. I didn't give him any choice that night he was coming home with me because we were not going to be late for that final game."

Teams describe themselves as families all the time, but the Indians backed it up.

Taylor stayed at Coach's house or with teammates on a regular basis.

"I stayed with Dominique on and off sometimes because I don't really have a home," Taylor stated. "Losing my mom -- she's in jail right now. That's why I'm moving around everywhere."

Former University of Louisville star Terrence Williams was arrested on Sunday for making threats with a gun during a scheduled child visitation.

According to the Seattle Times:

The incident happened around 1:55 p.m. Sunday in downtown Kent. The victim is a woman who told police she has a 10-year-old son whose father is Williams.

The woman told police that Williams had a scheduled visitation exchange with the boy on Sunday, and during the exchange in a downtown Kent parking lot, the two began arguing. The woman told police that Williams brandished a firearm and made threats. He then left the area.

Police said they later located Williams and took him into custody.

UK Signee Marcus Lee is a Volleyball Star, Too

Kentucky basketball signee Marcus Lee is also a high school volleyball star.

The 6-foot-10 leaper just led Deer Valley (Cal.) to a North Coast Section championship. They will play in the NorCal playoffs on Tuesday.

But around Northern California, Lee first made big noise on the volleyball court and on Friday, he capped off his senior year in North Coast Section with the school's first title.

Lee, an absolutely menacing and intimidating middle blocker, had 15 kills in 22 attempts to go along with 21 kills from 6-4 sophomore Jordan Ewert as the Wolverines defeated Amador Valley 25-15, 24-26, 25-16, 25-15 to improve to 40-1.

Despite a late start because of Deer Valley's late basketball run and to commitments to McDonald's and the Jordan Brand Classic, Lee has 154 kills on the season. He's second on the team behind Ewert (4.7) with 3.8 kills per game.
