For the first time, Allmyapps will be present at CEBIT this year to exhibit our PC App Store for Windows desktops. CEBIT 2013 will take place in Hanover, Germany, from March 5th to March 9th.

Hi everyone!

First of all let me apologize for this long silence, I realize that it has been quite a long time since we gave you some news. Not that we had nothing to say (far from it!) but because we’ve been extremely busy improving allmyapps last year. And after months of intense work, today I am thrilled to see that our efforts paid off as you are now more than 500.000 to use allmyapps every month!

Above all, the team is very happy and proud to see how much you like the new version of allmyapps – easily named “allmyapps v2″ – that we quietly released 3 months ago. Indeed, since then, we’ve been witnessing a strong and steady growth in activity on allmyapps and we would like to thank you very much for that.

In 2013, you can count on us to continue improving Allmyapps as our objective stays unchanged: offering you the best user experience to discover, install and update all your PC apps, in other words, the “heaven for PC apps”.

Unlike IOS and Windows Phone 7, Android doesn’t come with an official application which allows you to manage your smartphone from your PC. Of course Android ecosystem has plenty of third party tools for managing your contacts and files, syncing data or creating backup, but none of these tools can really compete with Moborobo.

Moborobo is definitely the One application to rule each and every aspect of your smartphone right from your desktop. It has all the basic syncing and backup/restore features you can expect from such an application plus many others for managing your calls and messages, sending SMS directly from Moborobo using your PC keyboard, downloading apps, games, themes, wallpapers, updating the system etc. Moborobo can even handle IOS devices.

Moborobo has two mode of connection for your smartphone, USB and WiFi. USB mode is the easiest way. Just connect your phone and the application will automatically install the relevant drivers and the Moborobo daemon tool. If you prefer WiFi, you will have to generate a unique validation code from the Moborobo daemon tool and then enter this code in the Moborobo device connectivity window. Don’t forget that that Moborobo daemon tool needs root/SuperUser privileges.

Whatever method you choose, once you hit the connect button you will get access to the main management page (Home tab) which is a real dashboard for your phone. This screen shows a lot of information about your connected device (phone model, firmware version, battery remaining, storage details, a backup/restore button, direct access to a very powerful file manager, summary details for your contacts, Messages, Apps etc.). There is also an image of your phone, actually a live screenshot of it if it is in the list of supported devices, with 5 control items and a switch button if you have multiple devices connected.

Despite all its features Moborobo is not one of those heavy and unfriendly applications that bugged your PC. It has a very nice and elegant interface really easy to use. On top of it you will find 7 tabs: Home, Data, Apps, Tunes, Images, Videos and Themes. Each of these tabs allows you to manage every aspect of your smartphone. We already talked about the Home tab which is the default tab when you launch Moborobo. The Data tab on his side gives you access to the Contact Manager, the Message Manager and the Call logs. This is the place to view, edit, export contacts, monitors your calls, send SMS or backup your data. This is certainly the best part of Moborobo with a lot of nice and powerful features.

Moborobo comes also with a real app manager (the Apps tab) which let you install, uninstalls and updates apps. From there you will even be able to look for new apps to install. The 3 next tabs, Tunes, Images and Videos, are dedicated to all multimedia aspects of your smartphone (listen to your music, view photos and videos etc.). Eventually Moborobo provides you with a Theme Center (Themes tab) which allows you to download wallpapers and set ringtones with ease.

If you don’t have the money this year to get a Spotify or Deezer account, my advice is for you to have a look at Youtify, a web application that is similar to Spotify, which allows you to search for music, playlists or to create your own playlists, all for free!

How? Well, Youtify actually has its own little trick and use videos and other media files available on Youtube. Clever, isn’t it ?

The quality is obviously not as good as if it was an original music file, but to discover new talents or listen to the latest big hits it is more than good enough. In the end, if you want perfection you will need something else, but otherwise it is available on AllMyApps.

So, did you have a good summer this year? Awesome, even?

Perhaps, you came back with lots of pictures of the same landscape and tried awkwardly with Photoshop to get panoramic views out of them but got dubious and disappointing results?

Well, enough is enough! You should download Hugin right now! An app that works on both Windows and OS X and lets you bring together many pictures into one single and large image in a very simple way.

Hugin offers you the function of opening a series of photos, finding the Exif data to know the settings of your camera when you took the photos, and you can even edit them (contrast, crop, resize, etc.). Then, Hugin automatically place control points on the pictures to match the best one. Once you’ve made the necessary adjustments, you finally have to choose the settings for exporting (exposure compensation, file format, etc.).

Wait… and  OMG! It’s already done! You will get a nice big panoramic image that you can use as desktop background, play with 3D software, or just have it printed on canvas to decorate your living room.

To sum it up, I would say that Hugin is very powerful, with lots of little extras that can confuse new users, but overall most settings are automatically calculated, so it’s still accessible to everyone.

If you want to synchronize available files on your computer with a remote server without having to subscribe to a service like Dropbox because you prefer to retain full ownership of your data, consider FTPBox.

As soon as you launch FTPBox, it gives you the option to connect to a remote FTP server of your choice, and of course select a folder to synchronize to your computer. The application requires no installation program and links to the last uploaded file is automatically copied to the clipboard if you click on the tooltip that tells you it is sent to the server.

Once the two directories, the remote and the local ones are specified, then the synchronization starts running. Great way to never have to loose a file again and to automatically share between multiple computers.

In the end, building your own personal storage cloud is just as easy and more advantageous in terms of both cost and data retention.

If you often work with Microsoft Office, you probably have to use on a regular basis a file compression software to email your documents to their recipients as they are too big otherwise ( I mean the files not the recipients…;-).

But coming back to the recipient, if they have a limited understanding of IT they might not even know how to open the file you sent them. What a shame!

PocoDoc‘s offer is to shrink your PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, and PDF files whether online on their Website or with the app that I put on Allmyapps.

Once you selected the file to shrink, you get the drop down option called “Optimization Level”  to specify the level of compression and then you just have to click “Optimize”. At the end of the process, PocoDoc will even tell you by how many % the original file was shrunk.

If you want to share your Internet access (wired or 3G) with other wireless devices such as tablet or phone, why not turn your computer into a Hotspot?

Good idea! But how?

Well, there is a Freeware for Windows 7 called MaryFi, by simply clicking on it you can wirelessly share any Internet connection available through your Wi-fi network card.

Perfect for when you’re traveling and you only have a 3G connection via a USB drive connected to your computer. Or when you’re at work, and you want to connect your phone and the only internet access available is an Ethernet one with a cable network.

MaryFi lets you use a WPA2 Encryption on your wireless connection as any other Wi-Fi access point to prevent hacking. But you can also open access to your Wi-Fi to all your friends (without the key) if you want.

For MaryFi to work properly, you need to install Microsoft virtual Wi-Fi miniport adapter first and then everything should be working fine! And of course, MaryFi is available on Allmyapps!

If you’ve ever used a Mac or iPad 2, you may be familiar with Photo Booth, an application developed by Apple that can take pictures using the webcam on your computer and apply special effects to them for fun.

It’s handy, fun and it helps out ;-)

Good news, a clone of Photo Booth is now available for Windows 7. Packaged as a portable application, it allows, as the original application did, to take pictures and apply effects such as thermal camera,  comic book, sketch, etc..

Fun, isn’t it?

Photo Booth Windows can then save those images on your computer, or share them on Facebook and Flickr!

It’s only lacking the “film strip” effect present in the original application, it will be perfect if one day this function is added!

If you are unlucky when it comes to computer problems, you may be constantly facing  difficulties with network interruptions, virus, application errors, or even power failure? And then, what is the next natural step? Well, if technology is really out to get you that day, you end up with corrupted files. Thankfully, there is a better solution to your predicament than cursing the day computers were invented and deleting those corrupted files that you believe are lost forever. The solution is a little app called File Repair that will let you repair, as its name indicate, the format of the following files:

• Word documents (.doc, .docx, .docm, .rtf)
• Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xla, .xlsx)
• Zip or RAR archives (.zip, .rar)
• Videos (.avi, .mp4, .mov, .flv, .wmv, .asf, .mpg)
• Image files such as JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, PNG or RAW (.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .tiff, .bmp, .png)
• PDF documents (.pdf)
• Access databases (.mdb, .mde, .accdb, .accde)
• PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pps, .pptx)
• Music files (.mp3, .wav)





The interface is very easy to use and the repair is done reasonably fast. File Repair can help you if a file is unreadable, inaccessible or even in a format not recognized. An other nice little bonus is the fact that if your file cannot be repaired, you get a pop-up window that offers you the option to email it to the File Repair team and they will look into it for you. However, I never tried this service myself, so I am not sure whether it’s free or not.



So definitely something to have on your hard drive in case of emergency!
