PALADOG – Paladog is the story of the brave, last of the doggies (named Paladog), on a mission to save a futuristic world run by dogs from the onslaught of evil (ranging from zombies to walking, shooting televisions). An involving, fun, yet easy to pick-up-n-play game, Paladog recruits various animal warriors as he progresses along in the world, punching the lights out of onrushing enemies, all while remaining seated comfortably on his trusty horse.

We’re really impressed with how Norway’s powers-that-be have managed to show off the beauty of their country on their website. Docracy Provides Free Legal Documents for Many Common Situations

DOCRACY aims to do for legal documents what Wikipedia has done for general knowledge: completely democratize it. It’s a collaborative database of legal documents for anything from a non-disclosure agreement to an apartment lease (and more). You can access and edit the documents, and even sign them as well.

Who is Docracy for?

Docracy is pretty much a web service for anyone (currently anyone American) who needs a legal document drafted, but doesn’t have the finances or budget to hire a lawyer to do it for them. If you need a standard legal agreement, it’s likely to be up on the Docracy database, which potentially makes Docracy a useful resource for anything quick / simple you or your business needs. The bundles of documents for similar scenarios (see the startup documents bundle for example) is particularly interesting.

Who is Docracy not for?

On the other hand, Docracy certainly doesn’t substitute the need to hire an attorney for most circumstances – you can’t really rely on a form you’ve found on the Internet if there’s an important agreement or a large amount of finance at stake. For a start, although you can modify the documents, you could unwittingly be drafting an agreement that won’t hold up legally if something goes wrong: A short term saving can often turn into a greater expense in the long term, fixing a badly drafted contract.

Bottom Line:

If you need a standard document fast and cheap – whether it’s an incorporation document for your startup, a power of attorney or living will, or a lease agreement on a new apartment – Docracy is a useful resource. Uniquely it’s free to access, you can modify any document and re-publish it to the database, legally sign any of the documents, and join the growing community. While a lawyer would always be recommended for anything even remotely complicated, there’s no doubt that a free, open source legal documents service – almost a legal wikipedia – is a genuinely useful online service indeed. Discover films you’ll want to watch again and again. Rate them according to watchability, not just out of 5 stars.

Just because critics love it, doesn’t mean you want to watch it…

Your favorite film might not have won best picture, but does that mean that you wouldn’t happily watch it over and over again? In fact, I wonder how many award winners you would happily watch over again? Your enjoyment of a film is different to its critical reception and that’s why Goodfilms has created a site which allows you to rate, review and share films based on your friends reception.

By using the Goodfilms graph you can choose a movie based on you and your friend’s taste, and while doing so find new films to watch. Simply click on the graph and it will find a movie that is both re-watchable as well as high quality.  The higher you go on the graph the better!

A Better Way to Rate Films

Co-founders Glen Maddern and John Barton have built the site based on two fundamental ideas. First,  films are social. The best way to find movies is through the people you know. Goodfilms puts your friends opinions front and center, instead of a random grab bag of internet voters or highly specialized critics.

Second, existing rating systems are broken. According to a YouTube study, which blogged the effectiveness of a five star rating, films cannot be rated effectively with a single one to five star rating. “The number of 5-star ratings greatly outnumbered all others, with 1-star a distant second. They decided to switch to a thumbs-up/thumbs-down system, which by all reports is working better.” According to Goodfilms, an aggregate score just isn’t enough.

How does the rating system work?

Goodfilms takes into account two crucial factors in rating a film. The first is the “critical quality”, or how “good” a film is. This is a lot like what you’d expect to a normal film critic’s rating to cover. The second is the “rewatchability” of a film, or how much you’d enjoy sitting down to watch it again in the future. This is what makes Goodfilms different from any other online rating system, and my personal favorite. The quality is measured using a star rating, while the rewatchability uses smiley faces. Moreover, movies are then graphed based on the previous two factors. According to Goodfilms, “Movies to the upper right are the “Good, Good” films, the upper left the “Enjoyably Bad”, the lower right the “Difficult, Great” movies, and the lower left is what we call the “Zone of Crap”.

At the moment, you can’t see a site-wide average for a film on Goodfilms, which is a deliberate decision made by the co-founders. If you want an average rating, there are better sources such as Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB. Goodfilms not about needing an automatic recommendation, nor a single aggregate score for a film.  It’s about allowing you to express your personal opinion of a film, in terms of something objective (quality), and something deeply subjective (rewatchability) with your friends.

And it’s easy to sign up. Like all other social media outlets, just simply sign up with Facebook or Twitter and you can start instantly watching movies based on ratings from people that matter. But keep in mind, its not totally free. In order to watch the movie, you need to have a Netflix account or be willing to pay the Itunes fee to rent the movie.

Goodfilms is a better way to rate your favorite films because your friends understand the difference between films you love and films you just thought were ok.  So sign up if you haven’t already, and get rating!

SPACE INVADERS. No review of the best of space on the Internet could possibly leave out Space Invaders. And so we didn’t! It’s the original space game. And it’s made the journey from 1980s arcade machines to the wide world of the web.

Because we’re kind and generous, we tried put the actual game here. It didn’t work. But you can play it here. This is all. Retro’s the new retro.

2. Skydive From The Edge of Space!

RED BULL STRATOS – Sometimes peoples’ fascination with Space (and jumping from massive heights) leads them to do strange things. Felix Baumgartner is one of those people. He’s teamed up with Red Bull in one of the most fascinating – and downright crazy – scientific experiments in recent years: He’s going to take a hot air balloon up to the stratosphere… and jump! He’s aiming to become the first man to break the speed of sound in a free fall from the absolute edge of Space, and this website is charting the experiment from start to eye watering finish.

But what the guys at Red Bull won’t be telling you…

…is that this actually sorta happened in 1960! Check out this video, the guy even lights up a cigarette at the end! Child’s play, clearly.

3. First Mission To The Moon Recreated.

WE CHOOSE THE MOON – 40 years after the first mission to the Moon, this awesome, interactive website celebrates by completely recreating it, step by step. It’s got everything you need to actually feel like you’re there with good old Neil and his trusty sidekick Buzz as they make those iconic first steps on the surprisingly mesmerizing, giant rock we live next to. It’s brilliant, using real recordings, photos and videos from the Houston control center, JFK’s viewing point, and Apollo 11 itself. Check it out!

4. Best Space Exploring App

SKYVIEW – An amazing little app this. It uses the awesome ‘augmented reality’ effects on the iPhone and iPad to allow you to walk around with your own virtual planetarium in your hands. Watch your favorite stars and constellations fade in and out of your camera view, search for stars and planets’ current location, and track celestial objects’ path through the skies in a 24 hour period (including satellites and the space station!) Available on the App Store on iTunes for $1.99, you can learn more about Skyview here.

5. VIDEO: Aliens DO Exist!

Didn’t think aliens were real? All a load of rubbish? Think again. There’s other Earths out there. And this video is about the scientists looking for ‘em. Watch it! (warning, it’s quite long, but actually mind blowing. So either watch it now or save it for later)

6. Awesome Online Science Projects To Participate In

ZOONIVERSE – Most Space experiments usually get left to the big guys at NASA (and their Eastern competitors…). But not at Zooniverse. Here’s a noble little website that’s democratizing big science. It lets you participate in some of the coolest Space and science experiments from around the web. So if you’ve always fancied yourself as an amateur scientist, check out Zooniverse, participate in massive, online, global science experiments & discover amazing things you never knew about Space.

 7. Best Space Website For Kids

NASA KIDS’ CLUB – There aren’t many good websites about Space for kids, but this effort from NASA is probably the best out there. It admittedly looks a little dated, but more importantly, it’s fun, informative, and is full of sound and interactivity. It’s even got special areas (and art supples) for teachers and parents. The NASA Kids’ Club certainly captured my attention, and seeing as the rest of the All My Faves HQ thinks I’m a big kid anyway, that’s a good indicator that it’ll capture your 10 year old’s too! 8. Best New Space Game

I AM FLYING TO THE MOON – Space Invaders may be the ultimate retro space game, but if you’re looking for something a little, well, newer, this is the Internet’s best, new Space game: I Am Flying To The Moon. It’s a cute, free game where you simply try to fly your apparently wooden rocket as high as you can until you reach the moon. The further you get, the more coins you fly through, and the more obstacles you avoid along the way leads to you earning money, which can be spent on improving the tech behind your rocket. So there’s lots of incentive to keep going. Definitely deserves your attention!

9. The Official Space Websites

Well, ok, they’re not actually official. But they may as well be. After all with a name like Space.com, you’re pretty much setting yourself up to be the official website of Space. Big ask, whether it succeeds, I’m not so sure. But it’s still worth a look. Other big Space websites you should have in your galactic inspired faves are BBC Space, NASA.gov (of course) and National Geographic Space. All good. All big. All almost official.

So far using search engines required creativity on the user’s behalf: You type keywords and then start to rule out results, clicking things that are irrelevant until you find what you need. You can see the action these people took after receiving  the same search results and how they continued from there. Innovation or imitation?

My reaction to this launch went from anticipation to disappointment to complete awe. The anticipation part you probably understand, finally Microsoft shows its social answer to Facebook after such a long time and money invested… The disappointment part came after my subscription when I found myself lost, not understanding why clicking one thing got me to posts about something completely different, and generally disappointed for seeing features I know from other social platforms wearing a different dress… And then awe, as I understood the potential of this platform and realized that once again, Microsoft are being even more ambitious then I dared to believe.

Microsoft forgives but never forgets…

To understand So.cl you have to stop trying to compare it to Facebook and realize who the real target is of Microsoft’s latest move in today’s innovation war: Google. Its been over a decade since Google’s blitz on the internet which made it its almost sole monarch, but the wounds are not yet healed, Microsoft tried to fight back with Bing and numerous acquisitions but never really managed to bother Google. This new search platform shows Microsoft still sees ‘search’ as the Internets most powerful tool, and thinks that finally it has the answer that can redeem past defeats to Google and reclaim what it think is its rightful place; the top of the web world.

Giants beware!

Microsoft claims that they do not challenge Facebook or Google but they can – and will – do both. Once they will have enough subscribers and users so that the search will actually be varied, they will have the added value that will make people migrate from their good old Google search to a more effective and enlightening one. And if people will use So.cl’s search they will be one step closer to landing on the social platform on which it’s already based. Maybe it’s time both Google and Facebook start looking over their shoulders!

Why Everyme is the complete opposite of Facebook

The biggest problem with Facebook is that it has no boundaries. You’re on there, sharing everything with your friends, one-time acquaintances, random online ‘friends’… and the most dreaded of all… your boss and your parents!

As soon as you allow the boss, mom and dad to be your “friends”, you get yourself involved in an endless spiral of untagging and eliminating pictures of yourself doing all those things you don’t want them to know. But you’re never fast enough: all of the sudden you’re facing a picture of you with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other and your mom’s comment on the side: “OMG, how long have you been smoking? Are you out of your mind?!” etc. If you are one of those who, like me, is running against time to fight overly public broadcasting… you’d better check out Everyme!

The concept behind this app is that “stories are meant to be shared with your closest friends, not with 377 random acquaintances.” The difference between Everyme and the other networks is the possibility of choosing exactly who to share with and how. Since it doesn’t have a public option, you never have to worry about your photos and messages ending up in the wrong place. The rule to decide whether to send your friends a story or not is simple: unless you click the share button, it’s not sent.

How sharing works on a more private social network

As regards the actual sharing, since your friends and family members are everywhere, this app gives you the opportunity to communicate with them in the place that best works for them – app, mail, or text message. Another really useful tool is that as soon as you sign in with your social networks, Everyme creates logical groups to inspire the “Magic Circles” you might want to create. The first time you post into a Circle, you are given the option to turn on Magic Stories, which means the app will scan your social networks for interesting things every once in a while for your friends to comment o like any normal story.

One last detail: your contact data is not stored, another guarantee that your privacy is really good taken care of.  Now stop broadcasting and start sharing with Everyme. It’s about time social networks got a private equivalent!

The idea behind it is very similar to subscribing to a magazine but instead of receiving a magazine full of words and pictures, you receive a package by mail in which you have a collection of items curated by the person you admire.

Items that tells a story

When you enter Quarterly Co. you have a list of contributors from which you choose the one who influenced you most and whose opinion and point of view you appreciate the most. After you subscribe to your favorite contributor you start receiving once every three months a package from them by mail. It can be anything the contributor finds appropriate, from a secret family cold remedy to the same pen they used for taking notes for their recant book, all the items will have relevance and meaning to the contributor and hopefully will add value to you as well. 

What exactly will you get?

Each 3 monthly package costs $25, so you’re most likely going to get small items from your influencers, which have more story telling effect then anything else. The way I see it, the main idea of Quarterly Co. is to provide you with stories curated by the contributors into items they send you, and through these stories, the items take on new meaning. Pleasure is defined in a website I found as “a source of enjoyment or delight”. My personal definition of it would be traveling around the world and having a delicious dessert in every city I visit. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “OMG, that sounds absolutely perfect… I’m gonna steal this girl’s idea!… oh, no… too expensive, raising the money will take forever”. Well, don’t worry… here’s a website where you can visit New York, Paris and Brazil while filling your stomach (OK, I should have said eyes) with the yummy looking chocolates. Welcome to the Magnum Pleasure Hunt experience… Bon apetit eyes!

And it really is interactive!

The keyword for the Magnum experience should be interactive. It’s an adventure game which consists in gathering as many chocolates as possible while walking around places such as the new yorker Greene St., the Pont Neuf in Paris, flying in the Bvlgari store carried by a bunch of colorful baloons, or running through the Au Viea south in Rio de Janeiro, right on the side of the beach. But the charm of the trip relies not only in the amazement of the chosen destinations but also in the way they are developed in front of the users’ eyes. The main character – a very pretty girl for the male audience – gives the impression of taking over the screen, as she can walk and jump on its sides, and use the words and titles as stairs to climb towards a chocolate.

Don’t miss out on this awesomely sweet online adventure game… although you might wanna buy some Magnum chocolates before you play. It’s hard to prevent yourself from biting the screen if you don’t…
