Introduction:
Onda VX757+ is the upgrade of VX757. The only difference between two models is that VX757+ has TV-out function while the VX757 doesn’t. We have already done a full review for Onda VX757, read here. Here I would like to review its TV-out function.

TV-out Function:
VX757 comes with an av able. The av cable has three ends at one side and 3.5mm jack at the another. Connect your TV with the av cable according to the colors (red, yellow and white). Connect the 3.5mm end to the player. In the main menu of the player, select TV and make necessary settings, finally select ‘TV Screen’ (the player will be screen off). See the TV, it is showing now. I tested with a few rmvb movie clips downloaded from the internet. They display perfectly in my laptop. When they are played in the TV through the player, the quality is a little bit downgraded. Sit down and watch it from normal distance, the quality is just a bit poorer than normal TV shows.

Conclusion:
Onda VX757+ seems to be the best choice for TV-out if you are insisting a small pmp. It is light and convenient. I also notice that VX757+ has more languages support : Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Russian, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Polish and Italian.

Introduction:

The VX747 is the first touch screen interactive player to use the new JZ4732 chipset, like other similar players, this can play unconverted videos that are in a high resolution state at 30FPS. It can play a variety of audio and video file formats. The touch screen gives the user interface a slick feel, this is definitely a mark improvement from Onda VX858 and VX878. This model is available in 4GB and 8GB of internal memory.

Design:

The overall design looks like a smaller version of the iPod Touch, with chrome contours, the 3 buttons on the front are +(volume up), M (Menu) and -(volume down), these buttons are generally for increasing and decreasing volume, but they can also be used for the built-in games.

Screen:

The VX747 boast a 16:9, 3 inch screen, 262k colors QVGA (also called WQVGA), with a resolution of 400×240, a very good screen quality, easy to clean, and sensitive enough for you to use your fingers on it.

User Interface:

The interface is very simple. Three(3) buttons on the front, one(1) power on/off slide-button on the side, a small Reset-button hole just in case you need it(you can use the stylus pen or a paper clip), USB 5-pin standard Mini-USB, also standard 3.5mm headphone jack and a Micro SD/SDHC slot supporting 512MB to 32gb.

GUI(graphical interface):

The graphical interface is pretty straight forward. At the moment you turn on the player, after the intro animation, it displays the whole menu, very easy to learn. Some hidden customizations you can do are changing the background picture for different functions(music, radio, etc.). There are a few themes pre-installed in the player that you can choose
from.

Audio:

This player is compatible with MP3, WMA, WAV, APE and FLAC files. The audio quality may depend on how the music has been encoded, but it does support MP3 with CBR (Constant BitRate) and VBR (Variable BitRate). It has an equalizer with SRS WOW, BBE, Customizable EQ and & Preset EQ, so you can choose how to improve the sound as you wish. The simple audio spectrum shows only if the music doesn’t have a lyrics file, otherwise it displays the lyrics, synchronized with the music. This player also has a built-in speaker. The purpose of this, is if you want to show a video, or let friends listen to music, you only have to enable/disable it by touching the speaker icon on the top left of the screen. If the menu disappeared, touch the screen once to make it reappear. It doesn’t support playlists, but most of us don’t even use this option even on our own computers. You can make your own folders and put the music inside them, creating categories of music and playing only 1 folder, acting like a playlist. The playback time for audio is about 17 hours(with the screen off).

Video:

Video compatibility is impressive on this player. While the player supports RM/RMVB, AVI, FLV (Flash Video) files, DAT, ASF, MP4, WMV, 3GP, and MPG for those found on Youtube, but to read FLV files, you have to manually choose them, meaning that you have to choose Browser in the main menu, and go to your folder where your FLV files are, touch one and choose Play, otherwise the files won’t display if you go in Video. The player support files with a video bitrate up to around 750kb, higher than this might make the video lag since the processor inside does have a limit. But 700kb for a video bitrate is pretty good for a 3inch 16:9 screen! If you have any doubts that your videos might not work(H264 files, or strangely-encoded videos), you might want to check our forum about videos encoding and tools to re-encode your videos to work fine. The video playback time is about 6 hours. Hard to imagine that, but the JZ4740 requires far less power than other similar chipsets. Therefore requiring far less demand on the battery.

Photos:

This player is compatible with JPEGs, BMPs, GIFs and PNGs, it can handle any pictures size. You can also rotate the pictures and stretch them to fit the entire screen. In the Photos menu, it displays thumbnails, in 4×4 fashion, as previews for better photo navigation. You can also choose a picture to be used as a background for the functions of the player. ie: music, radio, recording, etc, by touching the star symbol between the speaker icon and the M icon.

Other Features:

-FM Radio

Radio reception mainly depends on the headphones you use, and also the weather I’m sure. Since the headphones are used as the antenna. So that would mean that you cannot listen to the radio with the built-in speaker. The Radio feature also supports up to 40 pre-selected stations, which can be modified in the TXT file via the computer (when connected to the USB cable). Also, you can record the radio station you listen to (with a Low, Medium or High quality option).

-Games

The VX747 comes with 3 games built-in: Tetris (called Erros in the menu), Brick and Snakes. Snakes is hard to play on a touch-screen(due to turns), but Brick and Tetris are playable with the 3 buttons at the bottom of the player.

-Voice Recording

You can also record your own voice with the built-in microphone. The recording quality is also good enough for anyone who may want to record outdoor or indoor, or on-the-go with the same Low, Medium or High recording quality as the FM Radio recording.

-Text Viewing

The player supports TXT files, it can come in very handy for lists, phone numbers, and other types of reminders.

Accessories included:

The Onda VX747 has headphones, the stylus pen, silicon protector, strap(for use on the silicone protector), a standard USB cable for transfering of files and recharging, the Onda warranty card, the drivers and tools CDROM and manual (in Chinese but can be found in English). The included headphones are of good sound quality. If you choose to want a USB wall charger, you can find it in the allPMP store.

Conclusion:

The VX747 is a great touch-screen player, for those of us who prefer a touch screen due to the easy navigation. This player is very inexpensive also. The fact this player boasts a 16:9 screen enables you to convert a whole Widescreen DVD movie and watch it, while having a larger-than-average screen(remember 3″ screen), and a 1000mAh built in rechargeable Li-On battery. If you are wanting to take care extra good care of your Onda, there are many styles of silicon covers you can get for it. My suggestion is a good inexpensive screen protector as it is a touch screen and you don’t want to ruin it. I myself have a microfleece cloth that I use on all my PMP’s as not to scratch the screens. You can use light chemicals to clean them, but NEVER use paper towels due the hazard of scratching.

Thats why it picks M23 for this new model? This player is targeting low-end market, probably using Rockchip RK2608.
