Unlinear.tv announces Untitled Murder Project 2.0, a 49-episode interactive murder mystery available online starting 10/10/2013 from The Story of Luke writer/director Alonso Mayo and producer Nina Leidersdorff.

Untitled Murder Project 2.0 begins with a friendly brunch between three couples and takes a dark turn when an uninvited guest who holds damning secrets interrupts the festivities – and is soon found murdered.

Unlike traditional films, TV shows or webseries, the viewers of Untitled Murder Project 2.0 can choose their preferred order for watching the episodes, which are organized into 5 chapters and divided into 3 parallel timelines (Right Now, Hours Ago and Weeks Ago). By using a menu that appears at the end of each episode, viewers can choose their own path towards finding out who the killer is, and watch as much or as little backstory as they wish.

Untitled Murder Project 2.0 is the follow-up to 2011’s Untitled Fiction Project, an hour-long experiment in unscripted fiction filmmaking about the aftermath of an affair. Like its predecessor, Untitled Murder Project 2.0 was shot using structured improvisation, with dialogue developed by the actors and the director on the day of the shoot based solely on an outline. All of the actors where cast out of the GGC Conservatory, an improv-intensive acting school run by Gloria Gifford. The 13 original episodes of Untitled Fiction Project comprise Chapter 1 of Untitled Murder Project 2.0.

The project was directed by Alonso Mayo, director/writer of this year’s feature film The Story of Luke, starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Seth Green, Cary Elwes and Kristin Bauer, winner of 20 festival top prizes including Best Film from the San Diego Film Festival, Irvine Film Festival and San Luis Obispo Film Festival. Alonso Mayo, originally from Lima, Peru, won the Student Academy Award with his American Film Institute thesis film Wednesday Afternoon. He teaches Filmmaking at New York Film Academy, Los Angeles campus.

Untitled Murder Project 2.0 will be released through the Unlinear.tv YouTube channel in 4 parts: Chapters 1 & 2 (10/10/2013), Chapter 3 (10/17/2013), Chapter 4 (10/24/2013) and Chapter 5 (10/31/2013).

Today is World Autism Awareness Day. What is it like to be on the outside? To experience life in a different way? What is it like to see other people living full lives and know that you will never have that yourself? And what happens when you decide that you will not accept your fate but make your own? This is the story of Luke. And this is a story shared by many people on the autism spectrum, their families and their friends.

I wrote the screenplay for “The Story of Luke” because I had seen too many examples of amazing behavior by individuals with developmental dissabilities and the people who love them. I had to write it. I had the fortune of meeting a group of amazing people along the way that shared my vision, expanded on it and got the project to where it is today. We always knew we wanted to make an unusual movie, a movie that entertained at the same time that it raised awareness.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day and we would like to join our friends at Autism Speaks and many other organizations around the world in celebrating all the wonderful individuals that are in the autism spectrum and rallying for wider acceptance and inclusion. We are “Lighting it up Blue” by pledging a portion of our profits for use in international research and awareness campaigns. Autism affects everyone.

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

My passion project “The Story of Luke”, starring Lou Taylor Pucci, Seth Green, Cary Elwes and Kristin Bauer, will be released theatrically on April 5th in over 18 cities in the US and Canada as well as on iTunes and major Cable On-Demand platforms. I need your help to get the word out!

Since “The Story of Luke” had its World Premier at the San Diego Film Festival in September (winning Best Film), it has gone on to participate in over 20 film festivals and win another 4 Best Film Awards and 5 Audience Awards. We also received the support of Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, and in January we were picked up for distribution by Gravitas Ventures.

Though at first glance Alonso Mayo’s The Story of Luke seems to be another entry into the tired “cute ‘n’ smarmy” army of indie films, at the end of the day it stands head and shoulders above its contemporaries largely due to an unforgettable protagonist who you can’t help but fall in love with. This film is pitch-perfect and though not groundbreaking in any way, it consistently hits the sweet spot with deeply touching moments that are guaranteed to win you over by the end.

(…) Mayo and Pucci work together to create a portrayal of a young autistic male with authenticity and taste. Luke is not a caricature, nor is his condition understated. He comes off as simply a good-hearted person with a daunting goal that he is fighting with all his might to achieve. Who couldn’t relate to that? Luke’s battles to overcome his difficulties with communication are sometimes humorous, sometimes heart-breaking. His bravery and conviction are infectiously endearing.
