Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr., OGH, (July 25, 1928 - July 10, 2012) known by his screen name Dolphy, was a Filipino comedian-actor in the Philippines. He was widely regarded as the Philippines' "King of Comedy" for his comedic talent embodied by his long roster of works on stage, radio, television and movies.

June 12, 2012 is holiday in the Philippines as declared under Proclamation No. 295 - List of Philippine Holidays 2012 signed by President Benigno Noynoy Aquino on November 24, 2011. Because of this, there is no need for a separate holiday declaration for June 12, 2012.

In the Philippines, Independence Day (Filipino: Araw ng Kalayaan) is an annual national holiday observed on June 12, commemorating the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. It is the National Day of the Philippines.

The declaration of Philippine independence from the colonial rule of Spain concluded the Philippine Revolution. Philippine independence, however, was not recognized either by the United States or by Spain. The Spanish government later ceded the Philippine archipelago to the United States in the 1898 Treaty of Paris, and the United States granted independence to the Republic of the Philippines on July 4, 1946 in the Treaty of Manila.

July 4 was observed in the Philippines as Independence Day until 1962. On 12 May 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal issued Presidential proclamation No. 28, which declared Tuesday, June 12, 1962 a special public holiday throughout the Philippines, "... in commemoration of our people's declaration of their inherent and inalienable right to freedom and independence. " On August 4, 1964, Republic Act No. 4166 renamed the July 4 holiday as "Philippine Republic Day", proclaimed the twelfth day of June as the "Philippine Independence Day", and enjoined all citizens of the Philippines to observe 12 June with rites befitting Independence Day. June 12 had previously been observed as Flag Day, which was moved to May 28.

Philippine Declaration of Independence

The Philippine Declaration of independence occurred on June 12, 1898 in Cavite II el Viejo (now Kawit), Cavite, Philippines. With the public reading of the Act of the Declaration of independence, Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the sovereignty and independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain, which had been recently defeated at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.

The declaration, however, was recognized by neither the United States nor Spain. The Spanish government later ceded the Philippines to the United States in the 1898 Treaty of Paris that ended the Spanish-American War. The United States finally recognized Philippine independence on July 4, 1946 in the Treaty of Manila. July 4 was observed in the Philippines as Independence Day until August 4, 1964 when, upon the advice of historians and the urging of nationalists, President Diosdado Macapagal signed into law Republic Act No. 4166 designating June 12 as the country's Independence Day. June 12 had previously been observed as Flag Day and many government buildings are urged to display the Philippine Flag in their offices.

For all who doesn't know about mother's day, here's a small definition about mother's day.

Mother's Day is a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March, April, or May. It complements Father's Day, a celebration honoring fathers.

Celebrations of mothers and motherhood occur throughout the world. Many of these trace back to ancient festivals, like the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration. However, the modern holiday is an Americaninvention and not directly descended from these celebrations. Despite this, in some countries Mother's Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.

We’re not beating any record, we’re doing this as a tradition, A lot of people have been wanting to go and relive the whole thing. Thousands of couples gathered for the early Valentine’s Day celebration, locking lips at midnight in what organizers dubbed “Lovapalooza.

Lovapalooza is a traditional Filipino Valentine's Day celebration that first bid to claim the Guiness World Record for the Most Number of Simultaneously Kissing Couples for 10 seconds in 2004. Couples from all over the country with ages 18 and up are gathered together for the biggest and most romantic kissfest in the Philippines. The event is also a promotional venue for Unilever Philippines' new CloseUp Toothpaste products.

What happens when the word "love" is merged with "lollapalooza" (an English slang which means "something outstanding of its kind")? What happens when thousands and thousands of couples engage in a ten-second-lip lock?It becomes a "Lovapalooza"! The Philippines set a Guinness record in 2004 for the most couples kissing in one event.Lovapalooza,which gathered 5,239 couples kissing simultaneously. In 2005, Hungary broke the record in a kissing festival attended by 5,700 couples. This year, the organizers are urging Filipinos to attend the February 10 kissing spectacle which will be held at SM Mall of Asia.

January 23 Holiday (Chinese New Year 2012)

In the Philippine Holidays in 2012, the January 23 holiday was declared by Malacañang as a special non-working day in the entire county in celebration of the 2012 Chinese New Year, by virtue of Proclamation No. 295 series of 2011.

“On January 23, 2012, the Chinese nationals all over the world will celebrate Spring Festival, popularly known as the Chinese New Year, which is one of the most revered and festive events celebrated not only in China but also in the Philippines by both Chinese Filipinos and ordinary Filipinos as well; and the joint celebration is a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people,” the Proclamation stated.

Since the January 23 holiday is a special non-working day, the following pay rules may apply, based on the previous issuance of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz for last year’s October 31 and November 1 special nationwide holidays:

If the said days are worked, an employee is entitled to 130 percent of his daily rate for the first eight hours, and to an additional 30 percent of his hourly rate on the said day for work performed in excess of eight hours.
If unworked, he is not entitled to any payment, unless there is a favorable company policy, practice, or collective bargaining agreement (CBA) granting payment for special days even if not worked.
Finally, if the day is worked, and it falls on the employee's rest day, the employee is entitled for the first eight hours to 150 percent of his regular daily rate, and for work performed in excess of eight hours, plus 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the said day.

Please note that the aforementioned provisions will be changed once DOLE issues an updated set of applicable pay rules for the January 23, 2012 special holiday.

Holidays in the Philippines in the Year 2012

Malacañang Palace has released the list of official public holidays in the Philippines in 2012 as outlined in Proclamation No. 295.

Most of the public holidays from January until December 2012 were listed, but Muslim holidays have not been announced pending determination because the exact dates shall hereafter be issued after the Islamic holidays. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) will be the one to inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was tasked to promulgate the implementing guidelines of the said proclamation. The labor department also takes charge of the pay rules to guide employers on salary-related matters.

The following Regular Holidays and Special Holidays for the year 2012 shall be observed in the country:

Maundy Thursday           April 5
Good Friday              April 6

Professor : You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is GOD good ?

Student : Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?

Student : Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

(Student was silent.)

Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Is satan good ?

Student : No.

Professor: Where does satan come from ?

Student : From … GOD …

Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Student :Yes

Professor: So who created evil ?

(Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

(Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smell your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn’t.

(The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?

Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?

(The class broke out into laughter. )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face
unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man and GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

How to Put An End to Over Thinking and Start Doing?

You're Paralyzed Aren't You…

We often get paralyzed mentally and never get what we want out of
life. We suffer from whats call Paralysis by Analysis. In short to
much thinking not enough doing.

** HOW 2 PUT AN END TO OVER THINKING & START DOING **

The sad truth is most of us are walking Zombies, we think our only
real chance of living a happy life is to win the lottery.

Tell me if this sounds familiar.

Monday To Friday: Wake up early get the kids ready for school (if
you have them) go to work, eat the same thing for lunch that you
had last week. Look at the clock hoping its 5:00 pm only to realize
its only 2:30 DAM IT!

Drive home from work listening to the radio wishing for once they
would just shut the hell up and play a song you like. Notice that
gas prices keep going up and do a new calculation of what we think
it will cost to fill up the tank next week.

Check the mail when we get home only to realize your cell phone
bill is double what it should be because they screwed it up again,
now we look forward to a pleasant call with an automated machine.
GREAT!

Next "honey whats should we have for dinner" spouse " I don't
know, I don't feel like cooking tonight" we slap something together
for dinner quickly. "I would much rather have steak."

Then clean up watch some TV and get our butt to the computer where
we are probably reading this now. Or we are reading it at work
where we know we should not be reading it, but we don't care
because we are under paid and over worked.

We spend a couple hours on the computer looking at investment
opportunities or trying to do research on every tax lien or deed
county in the united states.

We have no game plan we are just wondering around in a big pond of
muck most of us call the internet. We are over thinking everything.
We are waiting for the perfect opportunity.

In our minds the perfect opportunity is an obvious tangible thing
that when it presents itself the heavens will open up and our bank
accounts will fill up.

The perfect opportunity shows up by us taking small action steps
every day towards our goals.

I'm not sure where I heard this quote but I like it.

I'm going to share with you a tip that I use to create
opportunities that fill up my bank account and my gas tank.

This tip is so simple but effective.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Before you turn on your computer to float around in the muck of the
internet write out a plan of exactly what you are going to.

Write out the following.

- The exact websites you will visit

- What exactly you want to get from those websites only

- The amount of time you are going to spend on the computer

- What you are going to do when you turn off your computer.

Here is the thing when we are wondering around in the muck of the
internet without a game plan of exactly what we want to accomplish
we get paralyzed by over analyzing.

This is called Paralysis by Analysis. Most of us suffer from this
in some area of our lives. The most common area to suffer in Real
Estate research.

Here is what I want you to do.

Start making very simple goals that can be accomplished in 30
minutes.

For example lets apply this to Tax Lien & deed investing.

Step 1 once you get home from work do this.

Go online and get the phone numbers to 5 of the nearest counties in
your area.

- You want to get the phone number to the tax assessor office.

- Waste no time simply get the phone number and close your web
browser. you want to be off the computer in 30 minutes or less.

Step 2

The following day on your lunch break call the counties and ask
them "When is your next tax lien or deed sale?"

Step 3

Do this twice per week for one month. This is "Doing" by just doing
these simple steps you will start the momentum needed to start
breaking out of that 9-5 rut and turn left overs into lobster.

This is the start of your snowball of wealth. We have all seen that
pebble of snow that starts small at the top of the mountain and by
the time its at the bottom its the sized of a house and takes out
everything in its path, well this is how it starts with tax lien
investing too!

Family Massacred in Mindanao- November 14, 2011

Hooded gunmen murdered a family of four and their companion in Mindanao in what could be a dispute over land, military and police officials said yesterday.

Five gunmen burst into the house of a farming family in the troubled island of Mindanao late Saturday and shot dead a husband, his wife, their two adult sons and their friend, the local army spokesman said.

“The victims were all shot to death and one of the motives that authorities are investigating is a land dispute,” said Col. Noel de la Cruz without elaborating.

Over 62 empty shells from assault rifles were recovered from the scene, said a police statement, adding that the family’s money, their two chainsaws and even their groceries had been carried away.

Mindanao has long been the scene of brutal killings, bloody family feuds and bandit attacks.

The violence has been fuelled by the presence of numerous armed groups including communist insurgents, Muslim rebels and armed gangs who often work for political warlords. AFP

DAVAO CITY - Violence breaks out in Bgy Rosemarie, Agdao, Davao City demolition; Mayor Duterte punches Sheriff during confrontation.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte was caught
on camera punching a sheriff of the Davao Regional Trial Court who was serving a demolition order Friday.
Initial reports said Duterte had asked the court for a 2-hour extension to allow residents of Barangay Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Suliman, Agdao to leave the demolition site, but her request was ignored.

As a result, Duterte went to the demolition site and punched sheriff Abe Andres.
She later said demolition teams and residents should not have met in the area.
The demolition caused tension after some residents tried to fight the demolition teams.
Some 500 families living in 217 houses are affected by the demolition.

Engage with Fruits and Antioxidants to Help Fight Mesothelioma

New research from a cancer center in Philadelphia suggests that antioxidants may be an important tool in the fight against malignant mesothelioma.

Consumers know that antioxidants, like
beta carotene, dietary supplements may combat oxidative stress at the cellular level. Some beans, blueberries, apples, blueberries, strawberries, cherries and plums are just some of the foods that are rich in antioxidants. But there are also several antioxidant-based drugs that have a similar effect on cells and are currently used to treat conditions such as lung disease, diabetes and malaria.

Now, researchers at the Kimmel Center Thomas Jefferson Cancer Hospital in Philadelphia have found evidence that these drugs may be effective against cancers such as mesothelioma. The team showed that the loss of a tumor suppressor protein known as caveolin-1 leads to tumor growth and is an important predictor of cancer progression. breast cancer patients found to lack the protein caveolin-1 had only a 10 percent chance of surviving for 5 years, while those with the protein had a 75 percent chance of survival.

Loss of caveolin-1 protein leads to oxidative stress in mesothelioma cells, which produce "fuel" for growth of the tumor. Since antioxidants fight stress, and cut off fuel supplies, the researchers theorize that the treatment of patients with mesothelioma with antioxidant drugs could be a way to stop the growth of their tumors. At present, the antioxidants are not normally used to treat mesothelioma and other cancers, as it is believed that could counteract the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs that cause oxidative stress.

"This study provides genetic evidence necessary to reduce oxidative stress in the body decreases tumor growth," said lead researcher Michael P. Lisanti, MD, Ph.D. , Professor of cancer biology at Jefferson Medical College. "Now that we have genetic evidence that mitochondrial oxidative stress is important for promoting tumor growth, we must reconsider the use of antioxidants ... anti-cancer agent."

Some of the drugs have been shown to reduce oxidative stress include diabetes drug metformin, a malaria drug called chloroquine and a third agent called N-acetyl cysteine. In the future could be used as part of a multi-modality approach to treatment for mesothelioma, which is notoriously difficult to treat.

Ricky Rivero Stabbed 10 Times in His QC Apartment by a Guy He Met in

Former That’s Entertainment member and now ABS-CBN’s TV director Ricardo “Ricky” Rivero was stabbed by a guy he just met on Facebook.

Ricky Rivero, 39, sustained multiple stab wounds from alleged suspect Hans Ivan Ruiz inside his apartment at Masikap St., V. Luna, Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City early this morning, according to a report by Philippine Entertainment Portal.

Barangay Pinyahan authorities said Rivero and the suspect have known each other for 5 months now through Facebook. It was only last night at around 11:00 p.m. that they finally decided to meet in person.

The actor/director allegedly brought Ruiz to his apartment where the incident happened. Police report said the suspect stabbed Rivero 10 times at around 3:00 a.m. this morning using a bread knife after the Rivero refused to give him money. The actor/director was able to run outside his apartment and call for help. Luckily, some bystanders brought him to the hospital.

The suspect, on the other hand, tried to escape with Rivero’s laptop and other belongings but came back to clean the crime scene. Authorities found the knife that the suspect used inside a fire truck at the Barangay Hall.

Rivero is currently being treated at the Philippine Heart Center while the Quezon City police was able to arrest the suspect.

Natural Family Planning is not natural when it means sex for only a few days before and after d woman’s monthly period. What is natural is for the married couple to enjoy each other including sex at the most receptive, attractive, and appropriate days of the month. It is not natural to
“violate” the woman while on the process of expecting her child, or the process of shedding her “frustrated birth.” It is not humane to limit man’s enjoyment of sex when the Creator did not limit mankind’s freedom of sexual happiness like that of animal’s 3 days estrus period. . It is not natural to repress man & woman’s complex desires (physical, emotional, and spiritual) in their most healthful, pleasurably sensitive, life- supportive days in favor of doing sex in her most painfully sensitive days just for the same purpose of avoiding the meeting together of their sperm & egg cells. Will not faithfulness to the teaching of the Church lead couples to resort to withdrawal and unnatural alternatives causing psychological troubles?

Think of this fact: Men produce an average of 300T sperms/ejaculation, women is born with 2 M egg cells in her ovaries; if the Creator willed that they all come to life, where would life be? Yet on average only 5 sperms meet with 5 egg cells to produce the average 5 children per family. Contrary to the teachings of the Church, sex within menstrual period is Scripturally considered "unclean." It may favor man but insults the femininity of the woman. The Scripture strictly warned God’s people to refrain from sex within the menstrual period or be classed with people committing adultery, incest, and bestiality (Lev. 18:19); or will NFP, when strictly followed, lead people to try or practice them? God commanded both fish, birds, and humans to be fruitful and multiply, but only to humans did he added “and subdue it” (Gen. 1:28). Man was endowed with the right to “control” to maintain the “very goodness” of God’s creation.His word encourages the readers "to rejoice, be satisfied always and do not deprive each other" in marital sex (Prov. 5:19; 1 Cor. 7:5) Think about it: the most favored men of the Scripture had few children: 3 for Noah, 1 for Abraham by Sarah, 1 by Hagar, 5 by Keturah after Sarah’s death; 2 for Isaac; 12 (very problematic) for Jacob, and 2 for Joseph, 2 for Moses. Where will the wisdom behind NFP lead our nation to?

An electronic message is "spam" IF:

(1) the recipient's personal identity and context are irrelevant because the message is equally applicable to many other potential recipients.

(2) the recipient has not verifiably granted deliberate, explicit, and still-revocable permission for it to be sent.

(3) the transmission and reception of the message appears to the recipient to give a disproportionate benefit to the sender.

Friends, there are people who use a system and then there are others who abuse it. Prevent spam from going out from your profiles. It could be a simple message forward or it could be your profile's privacy settings. Spammers target the naive users. Just today received a message from a friend. The message is nothing different that the chain email messages that continue to go on for years. The challenge with facebook is the users range from 8 to 80 and the 500 plus million accounts. So it covers a wider range of naive users. You can prevent the spam by not honoring every singe message or link or friend request. Be selective and this will save you lots of time and headaches in the future. If you are educated about how to control the spam, please educate others in your friend circle by pointing them to the right sources of information (In case of facebook, it could be an official facebook blog or official facebook help topics).

Beware of spam links. Please don't just click links shared from Facebook, it could be spam.

There are simple ways to know if a link is a spam, here are few:

1: It's better to ask your friend who you thought sent you that link, using your own dialect first, to be sure!

Ask your friend is he or she really posted it.

Trust me, it happened to my friend. Her friends deleted her because her account was sending links to friends without her knowing.

So, in order to stop the "inappropriate or unacceptable conduct by a small number of people" you are going to punish every one of the 400-500 million users on facebook? If I request too many friendships from people that facebook deems are people I can not possibly know, I will get blocked from sending friend requests & messages for 30 days (or more) because I am obviously a spammer? This is what has been happening to countless people (me included) thanks to your ridiculous automated brainless system to block spammers. Now everyone on facebook is being considered a potential spammer! Thanks facebook! MAJOR FAIL!

You people at facebook really need to take a personal hand in this anti-spam issue & stop hurting regular users who are doing no harm. I have just over 100 people I keep in touch with on here. I'm not here playing apps & adding 1000s of strangers just to play games. I'm not here spamming people or stealing info. I'm here to keep in touch with people I care about!

Over 1000 comments, mostly posting how they have been victimized by this anti-spam crap. I guess we need to wait till the comments measure in the millions before facebook will take this problem seriously. Until then, regular users who DO NOT SPAM will continue to get hurt by this bs crap anti-spam measure. Facebook needs to stop relying on buggy software to do the job real humans should be doing. facebook owners make hundreds of millions of dollars a year but can not hire a help center team of real people to deal with these issues? The mysteries of the Order of the Knights Templar could soon be laid bare after the Vatican announced the release of a crucial document which has not been seen for almost 700 years.

A new book, Processus contra Templarios, will be published by the Vatican's Secret Archive on Oct 25, and promises to restore the reputation of the Templars, whose leaders were burned as heretics when the order was dissolved in 1314.

The Knights Templar were a powerful and secretive group of warrior monks during the Middle Ages. Their secrecy has given birth to endless legends, including one that they guard the Holy Grail.

Recently, they have been featured in films including The Da Vinci Code and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Hugues de Payens

The Order was founded by Hugues de Payns, a French knight, after the First Crusade of 1099 to protect pilgrims on the road to Jerusalem. Its headquarters was the captured Al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount, which lent the Templars their name.

But when Jerusalem fell to Muslim rule in 1244, rumours surfaced that the knights weThe new book is based on a scrap of parchment discovered in the Vatican's secret archives in 2001 by Professor Barbara Frale. The long-lost document is a record of the trial of the Templars before Pope Clement, and ends with a papal absolution from all heresies.re heretics who worshipped idols in a secret initiation ceremony.

In 1307, King Philip IV "the Fair" of France, in desperate need of funds, ordered the arrest and torture of all Templars. After confessing various sins their leader, Jacques de Molay, was burnt at the stake.

Pope Clement V then dissolved the order and issued arrest warrants for all remaining members. Ever since, the Templars have been thought of as heretics.

Prof Frale said: "I could not believe it when I found it. The paper was put in the wrong archive in the 17th century."

The document, known as the Chinon parchment, reveals that the Templars had an initiation ceremony which involved "spitting on the cross", "denying Jesus" and kissing the lower back, navel and mouth of the man proposing them.

The Templars explained to Pope Clement that the initiation mimicked the humiliation that knights could suffer if they fell into the hands of the Saracens, while the kissing ceremony was a sign of their total obedience.

The Pope concluded that the entrance ritual was not truly blasphemous, as alleged by King Philip when he had the knights arrested. However, he was forced to dissolve the Order to keep peace with France and prevent a schism in the church.

"This is proof that the Templars were not heretics," said Prof Frale. "The Pope was obliged to ask pardon from the knights.

"For 700 years we have believed that the Templars died as cursed men, and this absolves them."

The Most Important Counter-terrorism Mission in U.S. History - The Story Behind Bin Laden's Death

WASHINGTON – Helicopters descended out of darkness on the most important counterterrorism mission in U.S. history. It was an operation so secret, only a select few U.S. officials knew what was about to happen.

The location was a fortified compound in an affluent Pakistani town two hours outside Islamabad. The target was Osama bin Laden.

Intelligence officials discovered the compound in August while monitoring an al-Qaida courier. The CIA had been hunting that courier for years, ever since detainees told interrogators that the courier was so trusted by bin Laden that he might very well be living with the al-Qaida leader.

Nestled in an affluent neighborhood, the compound was surrounded by walls as high as 18 feet, topped with barbed wire. Two security gates guarded the only way in. A third-floor terrace was shielded by a seven-foot privacy wall. No phone lines or Internet cables ran to the property. The residents burned their garbage rather than put it out for collection. Intelligence officials believed the million-dollar compound was built five years ago to protect a major terrorist figure. The question was, who?

The CIA asked itself again and again who might be living behind those walls. Each time, they concluded it was almost certainly bin Laden.

President Barack Obama described the operation in broad strokes Sunday night. Details were provided in interviews with counterterrorism and intelligence authorities, senior administration officials and other U.S. officials. All spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive operation.

By mid-February, intelligence from multiple sources was clear enough that Obama wanted to "pursue an aggressive course of action," a senior administration official said. Over the next two and a half months, Obama led five meetings of the National Security Council focused solely on whether bin Laden was in that compound and, if so, how to get him, the official said.

Normally, the U.S. shares its counterterrorism intelligence widely with trusted allies in Britain, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. And the U.S. normally does not carry out ground operations inside Pakistan without collaboration with Pakistani intelligence. But this mission was too important and too secretive.

On April 29, Obama approved an operation to kill bin Laden. It was a mission that required surgical accuracy, even more precision than could be delivered by the government's sophisticated Predator drones. To execute it, Obama tapped a small contingent of the Navy's elite SEAL Team Six and put them under the command of CIA Director Leon Panetta, whose analysts monitored the compound from afar.

Panetta was directly in charge of the team, a U.S. official said, and his conference room was transformed into a command center.

Details of exactly how the raid unfolded remain murky. But the al-Qaida courier, his brother and one of bin Laden's sons were killed. No Americans were injured. Senior administration officials will only say that bin Laden "resisted." And then the man behind the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil died from an American bullet to his head.

It was mid-afternoon in Virginia when Panetta and his team received word that bin Laden was dead. Cheers and applause broke out across the conference room.

2011 Sendai Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan

The 2011 Sendai earthquake and tsunami was an 8.9-magnitude earthquake and resultant tsunami waves. It was measured at 7 on the (JMA) Japan Meteorological Agency seismic intensity scale in the northern Miyagi prefecture, while the Japan Meteorological Agency's tsunami warning listed the magnitude as 8.4.

Reportedly, the epicenter was located off the east coast of Tohoku, Japan on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 05:46 UTC (2:46 p.m. local time) at a depth of 24.4 kilometres (15.2 mi).

The magniude of 8.9 makes it the largest earthquake to hit Japan in recorded history and the 7th largest in the world since records began.

The earthquake occurred 130 kilometres (81 mi) east of Sendai, Honshu, Japan. Its epicenter was 373 kilometres (232 mi) from Tokyo, according to the United States Geological Survey. A 7.1 magnitude aftershock was reported 40 minutes following the initial quake. At least twenty aftershocks of magnitude 5.5 or greater have occurred since the initial quake.

Initially reported as 7.9 by the USGS, the magnitude was quickly restated as 8.8 and then 8.9.

The effects of the quake included visible smoke rising from a building in the Port of Tokyo. Shinkansen bullet train services in and out of Tokyo were suspended, though no derailments have happened while Narita and Haneda Airport has both suspended operation after the quake, with majority of flights diverted to other airports until further notice. Various train services around Japan were also canceled.

An oil refinery was set ablaze by the quake at Ichihara, Chiba prefecture to the east of Tokyo.

Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan has said that nuclear power plants have shut down, but that no radioactive material leaked, although an abnormality was reported at Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant by Kyodo News.

The earthquake triggered a tsunami warning for Japan's Pacific coast and more than 20 countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Guam, Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Hawaii, Northern Marianas (USA), Taiwan and pacific coastal countries in South and Central America including Mexico. Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Peru. The tsunami warning issued by Japan was the most serious on its warning scale, implying that the wave was expected to be 10 meters high. A 0.5 meter high wave hit Japan's northern coast. Kyodo news agency has reported a four-metre-high tsunami hitting Iwate Prefecture in Japan. A 10-meter high tsunami was observed at Sendai Airport located near the coast of Miyagi prefecture, which has been flooded, with waves sweeping along cars and buildings as they traveled inland.

At 9:28 p.m (HST) [7:28AM (UTC)], the National Weather Service issued a tsunami warning until 7 a.m. for all of Hawaii. Tsunami waves are expected to arrive in Hawaii at 3:07 am local time.

The entire Pacific Rim is now under a Tsunami Watch alert.

At 11:33 p.m. (PST) [7.33 a.m. (UTC)], the National Weather Service issued a tsunami advisory for coastal Alaska from Chignik Bay to Attu, and a tsunami watch for the entire US/Canadian Pacific coast from Chignik Bay to the California/Mexico border, with tsunami waves expected to first reach Shemya, Alaska at 12:13 a.m. (AST).

As of 1:13 a.m. (PST) [9.33 a.m. (UTC)], Google Person Finder, which was previously used in the Haiti and Christchurch earthquakes, has begun to collect information about survivors and their locations.
