Expendables vs. Last Airbender

I finally watched The Expendables. I found the movie to be not as interesting as I thought it’d be. Kinda sappy, really. The plot line was sleazy; a bunch of macho, alpha males running into a battlefield to rescue a girl? I think The New York Post Lou Lumenick gave the best description to it: “the brain-dead male equivalent of Sex and the City 2″.
Overall, it was somewhat a disappointment.

On the other hand I also went to see Avatar: The Last Airbender. Amazingly, it wasn’t as crappy as everybody says it was. In fact, I thought it actually turned out to be just fine. Sure there were a couple of things that are different from the cartoon series; like how they mispronounced Aang’s name (that was hilarious), the Fire Nation’s battle outfit looking like Roman military wargear and Sokka for once, actually melt my heart (the actor was good-looking!). I guess all the negative feedbacks were made because the movie didn’t turn out the way how the audiences want it to be. They thought the movie would stay true to the cartoon series and they should know that. I myself think that had there was no animated series of the Last Airbender, I believe the movie would be well-received.

Birthday, server and domain

My host, Kya has emailed all her hostees about the server move. Hopefully everything will go smoothly and there will be no/minimal downtime. I know I shouldn’t be doing a new post in the middle of the transfer in case it is lost during the process but I decided to risk it anyway. LOL.

On the August 9th, I celebrated my 24th birthday. I didn’t have a birthday party, too old for that, but I had a good time with Leon. He took me out for a wonderful breakfast and we spent the afternoon watching movie. He also got me a new ring to replace the one I lost a couple of weeks ago.
I met Jenny and Paula Malai Ali in person for the first time ever while we were having breakfast at the Airport Restaurant. They were Leon‘s old friends. Jenny works as a TV and radio presenter while Paula is currently working as a presenter for the ESPN Star Sports.

On a different note, I’ve opened up a new site! Purrfectly.me was bought and hosted by the fabulous Kya *sheisincrediblyamazingyouallshouldloveher* and the new site houses my artwork (digital or otherwise) as well as my written pieces. There’s not much on it yet but I’ll be adding in more contents as the time goes by.

Woot! I beat Leon and everybody else in our GE2263 (Geography) coursework assignment with a B+!!! It’s a joyous news to me because I know it is never an easy challenge to beat Leon, let alone the rest of the class. Plus, Geography is only my minor subject so to have risen above everybody else is quite an achievement for me. LOL. Though I would very much like to beat Leon‘s grade in our History classes too. That would be awesome. XD

This dilemma

I was thinking of the future of my relationship with Leon. We are both from different social backgrounds. He is a son of a lord, while I am the daughter of a commoner and obviously a commoner myself. My mom has told me that she prefers her daughters to go for guys who are of the same social class as us. I know Leon‘s parents aren’t picky of their choice for daughter-in-law, and I know they like me but I’m afraid my own mother might feel we are not good enough for Leon and his family. Mom thinks that people from the middle class such as us should stay away from the rich. Another reason why she feels that way was because recently my first cousin once removed got scammed by a guy pretending to be the son of some rich bloke.

So if things don’t work out between Leon and I because my mom doesn’t approve our relationship, whatever am I to do?

On my nerves

My teaching practice will be over in 3 weeks time (oh I can’t wait!) but it feels a thousand of light-years away. I really wish it will be over sooner. What felt like an exciting challenge now feels like a heavy burden. *sigh*

In 5 weeks time I’ll be back in university. Ahh, I am looking forward to go back to university life. I never thought I’d miss it that much. Hmm.

I’ve been trying for a week to access my university’s website to check the examination results. But when I try clicking the exam result section, the page wouldn’t load up. I thought it was because of my slow internet connection, but apparently, the same thing happens to my friends as well. It seems that the university’s web server is overloaded again. This happens every time the exam results are out. It pisses me off so much. Why can’t the university do something about it? Like investing good money into upgrading the system!?

Apparently, some people are still advocating the use of ‘Disable right-click’ scripts. I don’t know why these people insist on using that script when it clearly does not stop people from viewing the source codes. When I pointed out this thing, I was accused of ‘spoiling the fun’. Somebody even tried to be defensive saying that “I am only trying to help.” What’s the point in that?
It amazes me how thick-headed some people can be.

World Wide Web

Before, there was nothing in this world that stayed longer than a month as my interest other than the internet. The world wide web has been one of my primary interests ever since I found out about its existence. I owe much of my knowledge (and success?) to the internet. I found new friends, new hobbies such as blogging and webdesigning through the Net.

In short, I love you internet!

Tomorrow I will have to be back in school where I’m teaching because the Year 7 kids are going to have their SUMMER camp there. SUMMER camp here refers to Science Ugama(Religion) Maths Malay English Recreation camp. There will be some academic-related activities for the kids to do and I am one of the facilitators.

These are the things that I will have to bring in tomorrow:

- A pair of chopsticks

- A dictionary

Knowing my place

Last Monday was the beginning of my teaching practice in one of the secondary schools. Truthfully, I didn’t and still don’t, feel like doing this teaching practice. I feel inadequately prepared for the tasks and I think, this could prove disastrous. But who am I to judge, when it is not mine to question.

My place, will always be down here. Don’t ask why, it is how the game is played.

This sucks a lot

I’ve just finished my exams and I thought this would be the time to let all the tensed muscles to relax. Technically, I should be able to do that since I have 3 months of holiday before the next semester starts. However, because I have a Teaching Practice to do for 9 weeks, that practically eats up my holidays. I mean, that sucks a lot. The university is taking away my holiday! I really feel it is unfair for them to do this to those who are taking up degrees in Teaching. At every end of our academic year, we have to sacrifice our holidays to do this blooding teaching practice. I mean, I understand the purpose and all, but that is really violating our right. While the rest of the students are enjoying their holidays, we have to spend weeks in schools for the attachments.
