Obesity is a major problem in the US and becoming a problem all across the world. And the leading cause of that is a major lack of education in regards to food.

It amazes me how many people can’t even name certain foods in the produce section. The video below shows kids struggling to name different vegetables, but I’m telling you now that most adults probably can’t name those vegetables either

What’s it going to take to get people to learn this stuff?

In my opinion, it’s going to take something drastic. Something like “Food Revolution Day”. The Jamie Oliver Foundation is doing something big here and I urge you all to be a part of it. Just click the banner below to see more information on how to get involved.

What bothers me most is that the kids are paying the price for the amount of ignorance showed to food education. These kids have no say in the matter and it’s just not right to allow this to happen.

Let’s help get the education out there so something can be done!

Watching this video taught me a lot about living a self sufficient life. I’ve always thought that living a self sufficient life would be pretty easy to setup, but something that I learned here is that it’ll take time to set it all up correctly and make it work

Survivorman taught me a lot what it takes to get completely off the grid. What makes this so much fun to watch for me personally is that I’m planning to buy a nice chunk of land here in Costa Rica one day and will make my house completely self sufficient and off the grid. Only thing I plan to have from the outside world is the internet. (Man’s gotta work, right?)

I really like the idea that he used to have solar power and wind power. Here in Costa Rica, the wind is almost always blowing and the sun is almost always out except for the rainy months. So during the rainy months, wind will be my main power source and the rest of the year will be predominately solar.

Let me know what you think about this video below. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Amazonia For Sale
(The Awajún people and their struggle to protect their ancestral territory)

Documentary – 36 min.
Peru – 2009
Languages: Spanish – Awajun
Subtitles: English

The Awajun people have inhabited the Amazon rainforest since time immemorial, living in harmony with – and respectful of – nature. This ecological balance is now being threatened by a growing interest on the part of the Peruvian government and national and international companies in indiscriminately exploiting the area’s mineral, timber and oil resources.
As a result of this plan, promoted by the state in the name of progress and economic development, the original inhabitants of these lands are now threatened by pollution, illness and desertification.
This documentary tells the story of the Awajun people’s resistance and struggle for their dignity and territory, both now and in the future, seeking to avoid the tragic experience to which many of Latin America’s native peoples have already succumbed.

The Natural Vitamin C Plant
The Camu-camu bush produces an redish-colored fruit that has the highest recorded source of natural vitamin C than any other known plant on the planet.
In addition to vitamin C, Camu-camu contains many other naturally-occurring vitamins, minerals and amino acids, and it has clinically demonstrated far superior benefits over ascorbic acid (synthetic vitamin C tablets), especially over a 3 to 6 week period.

Camu-camu offers astringent, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, anti-viral, emollient and nutritive properties and contains natural beta-carotene, calcium, iron, niacin, phosphorus, protein, riboflavin, thiamin and the amino acids valine, leucine and serine. This makes Camu-camu invaluable for metabolic processes, including the formation of white blood cells, maintaining a healthy immune system, and support for the brain, lymph glands, heart and lungs. The Camu-camu fruit has a surprising range of therapeutic effects.

Switching to Natural Vitamin C
People experiencing Camu-camu have stopped using large dosages of synthetic vitamin C because they find that just 1 to 2 grams daily of natural vitamin C sources such as Camu-camu is superior in strengthening the immune system, energizing and mood-lifting effects. One to two grams of Camu-camu, once or twice daily, can clear up most cases of bleeding gums and provide remarkable energy-boosting effects.

Although the amount of vitamin C which Camu-camu contains may appear low compared to the amount in synthetically derived vitamin C products, the effects on the human body are incomparable.

Because of its natural nutrient symphony, including bioflavonoids and other synergists, clinical evidence suggests that it is far more effective than any amount of synthetic vitamin C (ascorbic acid) or ester vitamin C, especially over a 3 to 6 week period of use or longer.

Extraordinary Immune Support
Health care practitioners report the extraordinary nutritional benefits of natural-source vitamin C complex for supporting the body’s immune defense against internal invaders. A couple grams of Camu-camu readily outperform the benefits previously achieved with mega doses of ester vitamin C or mega doses of L-lysine.*

The Camu-camu fruit has a surprising range of healthpromoting properties. Best known among these are Camu-camu’s potent ability to strengthen the immune system and to help maintain healthy gums, eyes and skin.

http://surfbums.amazonherb.net/Product-by-Product.aspx

Anti-Depressant Treatment
In discussing the holistic treatment of depression, he lists 19 plants containing chemical compounds with antidepressant properties, in order of potency, Camu-camu is number 2 on his list. It appears to provide nutritional support for the brain to optimize its own mood-balancing chemistry.

Anti-Herpes Effect
Dr. Null lists 19 plants which contain anti-herpetic phytochemicals. The plant with the largest amount of these phytochemicals is Camu-camu. Health care practitioners report that Camu-camu has provided effective nutritional support to put shingles into remission, and has cut the expected time for reduction of symptoms in half by supporting the bodyís natural defenses. Some users have reported that cold sores have resolved in just one day and genital herpes outbreak was resolved in 48 hours. In other cases, the Epstein-Barr type of chronic fatigue has shown improvement in one or two weeks.

Wide Range of Health Benefits
On Dr. Duke’s website, in a comparative study of hundreds of botanical agents, ranked in order of effectiveness for various health conditions, Camu-camu was ranked as follows:
● anti-viral – No. 6;
● gingivitis-periodontal disease – No. 1;
● antioxidant – No. 4;
● glaucoma – No. 1;
● asthma – No. 1;
● hepatitis – No. 1;
● atherosclerosis – No. 1;
● infertility – No. 1;
● cataracts – No. 1;
● migraine-cluster headaches – No. 1;
● colds – No. 1;
● osteoarthritis – No. 1;
● depression – No. 2;
● painkiller – No. 1;
● edema – No. 1
● Parkinsonís disease – No. 1

This is only a partial listing. For a complete list, see Dr. James Duke’s Ethnobotanical database, http://www.ars-grin.gov/duke/. There is a disclaimer on his website which warns that the information he provides is not meant to claim that any herb can diagnose, prevent or treat any disease condition.

Pure, Organic Cacao from the Rainforest

Through nutritional analysis, we are learning and naming over 300 chemical compounds at play in cacao. We are exploring their psychochemical effects on us — our central nervous systems, our bodies, minds and moods.

Antioxidant Rich:
Cocoa beans are rich in specific antioxidants such as catechins and epicatechins, the antioxidants found in green tea, as well as flavonoids, proanthocyanidins and polyphenols, the antioxidants found in red wine and grape seeds.

A Healthy Cardiovascular System:
Many studies published in the past few years have revealed the health-promoting properties of cacao, especially on the cardiovascular system. One study concluded that cocoa powder and dark chocolate favorably affect cardiovascular disease risk status by modestly reducing LDL oxidation susceptibility, and increasing serum total antioxidant capacity and HDL-cholesterol concentrations.

Improved Concentration and Mood:
Take pure dark chocolate to increase concentration and elevate mood. Cacao is also a unique source of the biogenic amine phenylethylamine (PEA). PEA is known as the molecule of love. When taken orally, it increases attention and concentration, and elevates mood.

Organic Chocolate Infused with 11 Powerful Rainforest Botanicals

Chocamaca is more than a great-tasting, healthy chocolate. It contains 11 other unique ingredients to provide your body with an enjoyable source of concentrated nutrients from wild, whole foods. These powerful botanicals provide energy, boost your immune system, support a healthy heart and so much more. Here’s what else you’ll find in each delicious ball of Chocamaca:

Kiwicha — promotes good cardiovascular health*
Maca — supports energy*
Muira Puama — supports nervous system*
Suma — supports hormonal balance*
Camu Camu — provides high concentration of natural vitamin C*
Blue-Green Algae — helps boost your immune system*
Catuaba — supports increased libido*
Jatoba — supports endurance and overall strength*
Fucus — helps stimulate lymphatic circulation*
Bitter Orange — an aid to soothing stomach disturbances*
Canela — provides invigoration*

Click here to try some for yourself!

Low in Calories and Fat

Compared to other chocolates and candy, Chocamaca is low in calories and fat. If chocolate has a bad reputation as far as health is concerned, it is strictly because of the refined white sugar commercial chocolate contains. Otherwise, pure cacao is a rich source of antioxidants which support a healthy heart, help reduce harmful cholesterol and boost the immune system.
Amazon Herb Company’s Chocamaca goes a big step further in rejoining chocolate with traditional herbs and grains from its original bioregion, then molding them into small spheres reminiscent of Tibetan herb balls.

What is it about chocolate that would make 50% of women reportedly claim to prefer chocolate to sex?
Yes, most chocolate contains some sugar. But chocolate clearly delivers far more than a brief sugar high. Remove the refined white sugar and we move closer to the bitter herb of its origin.

What is it we love so much in chocolate?
Could it be chocolate’s tryptophan, the essential amino acid that enhances serotonin function, hence diminishing anxiety? Theobromine may be the Aztecs’ agent against mental stupor. Or perhaps chocolate’s key to our hearts is its phenylethylamine (PEA) content. Phenylethylamine, commonly called the “love molecule,” is a natural chemical suspected of causing the euphoria experienced by lovers.

PEA’s presence in wild blue-green algae, another ingredient in Chocamaca, may explain the increased energy, enhanced mental clarity and pervasive upbeat optimism experienced by algae eaters.

Ingredients: Organic chocolate (whole, unrefined evaporated cane juice, chocolate liquor, unrefined cocoa butter, vanilla beans), Maca, Jatoba, Blue-Green Algae, Marine Fucus, Camu Camu, Bitter Orange, Suma, Catuaba, Muira Puama, Canela, Kiwicha (non-GMO soy lecithin as an emulsifier).
