Jayson’s eyes began to tear up a little as he explained
what happened. “Someone shot Mr. Jameson. He’s dead,
ma’am.”
“What are you talking about, Jayson?” Maggie had a
shocked look on her face. “He called me not even an hour
ago to ask if we needed anything for the house. Is this some
kind of joke? Is he outside right now? This isn’t funny.”
Maggie got up and went to the window to look outside.
Jayson didn’t exactly know what to say, so he pulled out
Mr. Jameson’s ring.
“Why do you have his ring?”
“I knew how much it meant to him, so I wanted to bring
it to you. He told me to take you to your safe place.”
Jayson was trying to be as subtle as possible.
“He’s really dead, isn’t he?” Her outward expression of
denial seemed to transform into fear and concern rather than
grief. “He always told me they would find us. I kept telling
him he was paranoid, but he was right. I need to go and get
a few things before we leave. There’s food on the table, go
ahead and help yourselves to some.”
Just as Maggie rushed upstairs, a car pulled up to the house.
Jayson went to the window to see who it was.
“Haley, get your stuff. We’re leaving now,” Jayson
said.
“What’s wrong? Who is it?” Haley suddenly had a very
scared look on her face.
“They’re here. The guys who killed Mr. Jameson. That’s
their car, they’re outside.”
Jayson locked the front door and rushed upstairs to get
Maggie.
“Maggie, we need to leave now.” His manners were
overcome by fear, and her first name now ran out of his mouth
as the fear of imminent danger ran into his head. “The guys
who killed your husband are outside.”
Maggie grabbed a duffel bag and followed Jayson
downstairs.
There was a pounding at the door.
“Maggie, open up. I know you’re in there,” the man said.
“I just want to talk to you about the old days.”
The second man broke a window and began to enter the
family room as he saw Haley.
“Jayson!” Haley screamed in fear as the second man’s eyes
locked in on her.
Before he knew what he was doing, Jayson rushed to the
window. With a swift blow, Jayson punched the second man
in the head, momentarily knocking him unconscious.
“Let’s go! Follow me!” Jayson yelled to Maggie and Haley
as he ran to the back of the house.
As soon as they rushed out the back door, they heard the
front door get kicked in.
“Maggie!” the first man yelled. “You can’t hide from me. I’ll
find you wherever you go. It’s not the first time, but I promise
you it will be the last.”
Jayson looked around the corner to make sure the coast
was clear. “Let’s go, the car is right there.”
As they got in the car, they heard the first man rushing
around the corner. Fear and adrenaline had taken over Jayson’s
body as he was struggling to get the key in the ignition.
The first man began to shoot at them, firing twice and
barely missing the car.
Jayson finally got the car started and sped off.
“Get in the car, Brian!” the first man screamed to the
second.
Jayson looked in the rearview mirror and saw that they
were right behind him.
“Is everyone OK?” Jayson asked. “No one is hurt, right?”
“I’m fine, just scared,” Haley said.
“I’m OK too, dear,” answered Maggie.
“Everyone stay calm,” Jayson said, “I’m going to lose
them.”
Jayson got on the highway and began driving as fast as
possible. The black car was right behind them.
“Hold on,” Jayson said, suddenly very calm.
Speeding at one hundred miles per hour, Jayson swerved
in between traffic. The black car was still behind them.
More gunshots were flying past the car. Jayson couldn’t
believe that he was being shot at in traffic.
“Hold on, you two!” Jayson said. His eyes reflected fear,
insanity, and uncertainty all at the same time.
He suddenly drove through the center median of the
highway, with grass and gravel flying out from beneath his
rear tires into the windshield of the tailing black car and got
to the other side of the freeway.
Their chasers lost control and blew out a tire while still
in the median.
“We’re in the clear for now,” Jayson said. “I’m going to
find us a motel to stay in for the night, then you have a lot of
explaining to do, Maggie.”
Jayson drove for about ten more miles until he saw a sign
for a motel. He pulled in and got two rooms.
“Everyone, try to get some rest. I have a feeling we’re
going to need as much as we can get.”

When I began writing “Best Served on a Cold Dish” a lot of people thought I was crazy, I couldn’t really blame them though because I didn’t really let people know I loved creative writing. The only reason I decided to write BSCD was because I couldn’t get the first chapter out of my head, but I am thankful that I couldn’t.

I hope you enjoy my book because I put my heart and soul into it. And if you BSCD then keep coming back because I have begun my second book and it is a prequel.

It was business as usual at the Water Hole Bottle Shop in Eton, GA. Jayson

would come to work after school and his boss Christopher would tell him

what to do. But this night wasn’t business as usual. Tragedy forces Christopher

to ask Jayson one last favor, “take my wife to the safe place.”

On his quest, Jayson finds himself fighting to protect not only Maggie,

Christopher’s wife, but also Jayson’s girlfriend Haley as they follow the clues

Christopher left behind to keep Maggie safe.
