Last night the American Idol 2012 Top 3 performed for your votes and a shot in next week’s season finale. Which of the three will be heading home after your votes? Will it be Joshua Ledet, Phillip Phillips or Jessica Sanchez.

We’ll find out at the end of the American Idol results show tonight, which means we’ll get a lot of filler and little suspense since there’s not much Ryan Seacrest can do to mess with our heads when there are only three left.

Speaking of filler, OK, OK I’ll stop. The entertainment for the night will be Lisa Marie Presley (I’m serious) and Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert. Lisa Marie will perform “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,” from her new album Storm & Grace, and Adam Lambert is set to perform his new song, “Never Close Our Eyes.” Check that song out below.

Phillip Phillips nabbed himself the pimp spot last night on American Idol 2012 and while he didn’t convince the judges on all his performances there was still plenty of positive responses including a standing ovation. Check out his three performances from the Top 3 show.

The judges start Phillip Phillips with Madcon’s “Beggin’.” JLo delivers the insightful commentary “you’re so funny” (gee, I wonder why she’s not coming back next season) while Steven Tyler likens Phillips’ potential to Bruce Springsteen. Randy congratulates Phillip for being “in the zone” and delivering an “incredible performance.”

Phillip’s own musical selection is Matchbox 20′s “Disease” but it doesn’t go over too well at the judges’ table. Lopez is disappointed in the selection saying it lacked the “wow performance” they need at this stage. Steven echoes JLo by suggesting the performance came up short. Randy tightens the noose around Phillip’s performance with a third strike. He felt it was too subdued and something Phillip could “do in his sleep.”

Jimmy Iovine delivers another great selection with Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight” and it was just what Phillip needed after his previous performance. The judges award Phillips with a standing ovation and pile on the praise for his performance. Randy says it was his “best performance on the show evah!” JLo can’t provide her feedback without reading it off her notepad instead of just speaking to him, but it’s good news for him. Steven closes out the praise with some of his own.

As part of the American Idol 2012 Top 3 performances last night Jessica Sanchez followed Joshua Ledet and delivered three of her own. The judges’ praise was overflowing including a surprising early prediction by Steven Tyler that Jessica Sanchez would win this season of American Idol

Jessica Sanchez starts her American Idol Top 3 night out with the judges’ selection of Mariah Carey’s “My All.” JLo praised Jessica’s restraint while Randy thought it was the best Mariah cover on television “EVAH!” Randy must go home exhausted each night from fending off every other singing show out there.

In a bold move, Jessica decided to sing a song by one of the judges, typically a move avoided by Idol Hopefuls. Here’s Jessica Sanchez performing Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” which earned her a standing ovation from Steven with his approval even if the other two judges remained seat.

Jimmy Iovine’s pick for Jessica was the Jackson 5′s “I’ll Be There.” Jimmy explained that he wanted a youthful song which could also appeal to an older crowd. Steven and JLo felt the connection while Randy said he was lost waiting for “the moment” that never happened for him.

Last night on American Idol 2012 Joshua Ledet delivered three big performances: “I’d Rather Go Blind,” “Imagine,” and “No More Drama.” The judges loved his work and, as we’ve seen again and again this season, one of these even earned him another standing ovation.

Despite Randy Jackson introducing this song as “I’d Rather Be Blind” the song is called “I’d Rather Go Blind.” Check out Joshua Ledet’s Top 3 performance of Etta James’ classic.

Jimmy Iovine sent the Mary J. Blige hit “No More Drama” Joshua’s way and the judges were thoroughly impressed with what he sent back. The judges loved his delivery including the jacket toss spontaneity and gospel styling.

The American Idol 2012 Top 3 took the stage tonight and sang three songs each, and as usual, the results were mixed.

Round one was songs picked by the judges, round 2 the contestants picked their own songs and for round 3, the songs were picked by mentor Jimmy Iovine.

As always, I’ll review each performance and assign the letter grade I think each deserved. In order of performance:

ROUND ONE – JUDGES’ CHOICE

Joshua Ledet, “I’d Rather Go Blind.” I think this was a great song choice for Joshua and the performance was as well. He handled this song perfectly because he held back a bit, then went full-on Joshua with the screaming and then threw in some scatting. It was overall a good performance. (A)

Jessica Sanchez, “My All.” I didn’t think this was the best song choice for Jessica. Why would the judges pick such a flat-line of a song when they constantly criticize such song choices? It was all just kind of there for. It didn’t go anywhere. (B)

Phillip Phillips, “Beggin.” For Phillip, this was pretty high energy. It was nice to see him doing something up tempo and still being true to who he is. I think it’s one of Phillip’s better performances lately. (A-)

ROUND TWO – CONTESTANT’S CHOICE

Joshua Ledet, “Imagine.” Funny that I picked this song for Phillip and Joshua ended up singing it. I think my idea would have worked a little bit better. And I’m not being biased. I just didn’t think this was the right song for Joshua. I’ve wanted wanted wanted him to do a song where he just sings and holds back all that crazy emotion and screaming and he did it, but this was just kind of a letdown in the end. I think it just wasn’t the right song for him. The arrangement was just odd. (B)

Jessica Sanchez, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” First of all, it’s pretty much the only lame Aerosmith song and it’s the one everyone sings. Oh, Diane Warren. I thought this came off very high school talent show. You know, the kind where I would definitely be asleep even in the front row… (B)

Phillip Phillips, “Disease.” I love Matchbox Twenty, but this isn’t one of their better songs. That being said, Phillip still kept it in his zone. The song was cool, mild and that’s that. Just a nice laid-back sound. But nothing to write home about. (B+)

ROUND THREE – JIMMY’S CHOICE

Joshua Ledet, “No More Drama.” Great song. Good job, Jimmy. At first, when the song began and I heard the arrangement and the way Joshua was handing it, I thought, “well this is just weird.” But then I really started liking it. And we got to see a magic from Joshua tonight. I still wish he was more charismatic when he’s not singing, but whatever. Great performance. (A+)

Jessica Sanchez, “I’ll Be There.” OMG finally. I wanted to jump up and scream “FINALLY!” Jessica sings I song that I think was perfect for her. That song was just perfect for Jessica’s tone. It sounded totally natural and she even looked to be enjoying herself. AND I connected with her. I think the big diva songs just always seemed so weird to me for her so I never related. I mean, she has a big voice and can handle the big notes, but it was so nice to hear her do a song with a tender tone with a few power notes thrown in here and there. Easily my favorite performance of hers to date. (A+)

Phillip Phillips, “We’ve Got Tonight.” At first it was just him and the piano. No piano. Totally vulnerable. And he was nailing it right from the start. Then it went into the orchestra and the backup singers and it went from silver to gold. It was so tender and emotional. I wanted him to surprise us with a big note, but it was just fine that he kept it tender the whole way. It’s as beautiful as the judges said. And I never agree with them. (A+)

Round three was clearly the best round of the night. Jimmy Iovine is a genius. Let him run this show, please.

And now it’s the part of the recap that has not been at all easy this season. It’s where I make my predictions about who will stay and who will go. This has been such a weird season because it was never clear who was doing well and who wasn’t. The only person to never land in the bottom 3 this season was Phillip. So does that mean he’s automatically in the finale? I don’t think it’s that easy. I think anything could happen tomorrow night. But I’ll give this a try anyway.

(And PLEASE keep in mind, these aren’t my personal choices. These predictions are based ONLY on what I think might happen based ONLY on America’s votes.)

Probably Your American Idol 2012 Final Two: Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips.

Probably Going Home: Jessica Sanchez.

My Thinking: OK. Phillip has clearly had a strong fan base all season. And yes, that can change at the drop of a hat. But Jessica has already been voted off once. And if history has any say, the wave she’s been riding since getting the judges’ save expires this week. That’s just an observation from past judges’ saves. Joshua has been so strong the past several weeks I think his elimination is impossible. So I think I’m confident enough with that prediction. But we’ll see tomorrow night.

Following in the footsteps of her fellow American Idol 2012 eliminated finalists, Hollie Cavanagh made the rounds this week for interviews and performances. Hollie stopped by the Today Show on NBC, Access Hollywood for a performance of “The Climb,” and then Live! With Kelly for a performance of “Bleeding Love” and brief interview. No Anderson Cooper clips this time around like we’ve seen over the past few weeks, but if we find more of Hollie’s post-American Idol performances then we’ll add them on here.

The Today Show hosts try to corner Hollie in to picking a potential winner, but she successfully dodges the question by answering “you never know what’s going to happen.”

Last week American Idol 2012 judge Jennifer Lopez called in to question her return to Idol for season 12. This week Lopez was out promoting a new movie on Ellen and when asked again about her return JLo again answered in vague and uncertain terms.

“I don’t know,” said Jennifer when Ellen asked, “are you going to go back [to American Idol] next year?” Lopez continued saying she didn’t know if she could go for a third year. “I miss doing other things,” Jennifer added. What? Like resting your unfinished album on the shelf until your label, Sony, drops you?

Considering her paint-by-numbers repeat of last year’s “I don’t know” approach to negotiating her contract I initially assumed this was her trying to grab for more money yet again, but that might not be the case. Yesterday we learned about FOX looking to making some big changes which could easily mean new judges. Lopez could see the writing on the wall and is carefully positioning herself to avoid an embarrassing dismissal.

Tonight is the last American Idol 2012 performance show before the season 11 finale.

The Top 3 will be singing three songs each. One will be picked by the American Idol judges, another by mentor Jimmy Iovine and the third will be a song of their choosing.

We’ll only see a bit of the Top 3 homecoming as tonight as they usually save that for results show filler.
