Is Your Website Mobile Friendly?

Did you know there's a recent development from Google that could be affecting your website traffic?

If it's been a long time since your website was built, you should know that things have changed in a major way over the years with Google search and the rapid increase of Mobile search.

Not long ago, Google announced some things that has impacted the Web in a major way and because of this, I'm encouraging my clients to consider updating their websites to mobile friendly platforms for several reasons.

Reasons For Making Your Site Mobile-Friendly

First and most importantly is that many of your visitors are now using smart phones as their primary source of Internet browsing.

Second and nearly equally important is that Google is no longer displaying websites that are not "Mobile Friendly" in their mobile search results.

Internet Users Have Adapted And So Should You

Test Your Website

I've tested dozens of websites and many do not meet the requirements set forth by Google to be considered "Mobile Friendly".

Make The Switch To Mobile-Friendly

When you're ready, it's important that the transition happen fast. I recommend you don't wait too long to get this work done to your site.

Keep in mind, you probably have years of content on your site and there are several ways to approach the conversion to mobile. Depending on your budget and the amount of content on the site, the process could be simple and fast, or expensive and time-consuming.

Options For Switching To Mobile-Friendly

The fastest / least expensive route is to archive all the old data and build a fresh new, Mobile Friendly website with minimal content so that your visitors using smart phones can start to see your site in search results again. Then over time, begin the process of repopulating your website with new and re-purposed content.

The longer more expensive route would be to build the site from scratch and integrate all of the old archives into the new website before relaunching the site. I do not recommend this approach, but it is an option.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Mobile Web is a place your business "needs" to be in order to reach the maximum number of people. If your site is not "mobile-friendly" it will not be shown in search results to many potential customers. Don't wait until your business feels the impact of the shift.

A Mysterious Invitation From Google

During a random search for a solution to a coding problem Max encountered a mysterious invitation from Google. Max blogged about his experience and recalls,

"I Googled [python lambda function list comprehension.] The familiar blue links appeared, and I started to look for the most relevant one. But then something unusual happened."

And what did happen next and over the course of the next three months seems to be something out of a Matrixesque science fiction story. The screen of his browser folded back and revealed a cryptic message

"You're speaking our language. Up for a challenge?"

was all it said. With three options to continue.

"I want to play", "No Thanks" or "Don't show me this again".

After clicking the option "I want to play" Max was taken to a UNIX UI simulation where he spent the next two weeks interacting with the program, and was finally asked to input his contact info.

The Journey Didn't End There

Max continues,

"Much to my surprise, a recruiter emailed me a couple days later asking for a copy of my resume. I emailed it to him, and we set up a phone call."

After being contacted by the recruiter Max went through the traditional recruitment process and was soon offered a position.

This is one of the coolest recruitment methods I've ever heard of and thought it was worth sharing.

I personally use this tool to find new websites linking to my websites, to find out which websites are linking to my competitors' websites and to see which websites are targeting specific keywords that are related to my campaigns.

Last Days of '07

Executive Gaming - A Restaurant and Casino holding company operating throughout Nevada. They own and operate several properties in Ely, and Las Vegas.

Newzlab - The creation of NewzLab brings a new dimension of Internet marketing to our suite of tools for clients by offering an unbranded email marketing solution for keeping in touch with customers.

There are plenty more projects in the pipe that we are working on but I can't let all my secrets out now can I.

Patent Your Idea, Protect Your Interest

Getting a patent for your idea doesn't need to be as costly and painful as most people think. Doing most of the work yourself can save thousands of dollars but where do you start and what can you do?

Search existing patents to make sure your idea is not already owned.

I recommend using Google Patent Search for starters. This patent search is much easier to use then the USPTO website.

For some helpful information to get started visit the Google Patent Search help page.

If you prefer, you can go directly to the US Patent and Trademark Office website to start your search

Next step is to file your application with the USPTO. To begin this process you must first educate yourself on types of applications, types of patents, how to file etc. The USPTO has put together an online guide to filing your patent application

Once your patent application has been filed your idea is officially "Patent Pending" and you should use this term in any marketing collateral you publish.
