I have recently found more copies of the DVD I produced for AmiWest 2007! The DVD, titled The Roundtable: Special Ed was produced specifically for AmiWest and was offered for sale at our booth as well as won by a few lucky folks at the show! I was only able to bring a few with me due to airline restrictions and just never got around to posting this for sale here on the website.

Well, now I’m selling what I have available and will make a few more copies for anyone interested in getting it.

Here’s what’s on the DVD:

Episodes 1-4
Raw, Uncensored Audio from 1,2 & 4 (I can’t seem to find raw audio from Ep. 3)
The Carrier Whistle Episodes 00-3 (00 was never released to the public at large.)
A Picture slide show
And a special bonus track. (Rated D for “Dumb”)

Unless you’ve recently been living in one of those places on Earth where there are no computers and no internet coverage, and I’m not casting dispersions, you will have innevitibly noticed that Apple have released Snow Leopard a.k.a. OS X 10.6. The official collective sentiment out of Cupertino is ‘No Biggie” , though of course the people on the interwebs have made that into a biggie. Why am I mentioning this to an Amiga audience? All will be revealed in due course; in the next few paragraphs to be exact.

Back in 2005 Apple announced it would move to the intel CPU. That whole week I was a mess, but more on that another time. With that announcement Apple shared its plan for phasing-out PPC support, first in hardware and then in software. Those of us that have been running Apple PPC hardware in the intervening years have felt some of the discrimination with the “you must be this high to go on this ride” policies of certain software releases; I’m looking at you Adobe. With the release of Snow Leopard “the ride” has been permanently closed for the PPC crowd.

A while back some of you may have read this post on OS News about Morphos on Mac Mini progress, and some of you may have seen this screenshot which is also embedded in this thread on Amigaworld.net. Some of you may have also noticed the pace of Morhos 2 updates vs those coming for Amiga OS 4, and some of you may have even read the recently published benchmarks of Amiga OS 4 vs. Morphos 2.3 on OS News. Yes, those guys at OS News certainly earn their keep.

What should be clear to most of you by now is that a lot of people are going to be getting rid of their Apple PPC kit over the coming months and it is an excellent time to pick-up a Mac Mini to run Morphos 2.x or 3. You might decide to get one when the Mac Mini port is available, but my advice is to take advantage of the immediate period, before sellers clue into the fact that the machine is worth more to you than it is to them. In the meantime you can run OS X 10.5.x or a PPC Linux distro, with UAE of course.

As you may have noticed or read on some of the Amiga Community websites, we’re pretty much on hiatus for the time being for a few different reasons. Needless to say, while on hiatus, some stuff has gotten left behind, broken, mixed up and generally frakked. So we’re going to work on those things, and hopefully get it all back in shape. But first…

I want to thank Sean, Mike, Miker, Andrew, Bill, Frank and Eddie for all that they have done for the shows and what they have offered to do. They have done this for nothing other than to further get the shows some recognition and bring the Amiga back into the minds of people and help keep former Amiga users in the loop of what is going on in the community as well as entertain the community at large. To them I offer them a really big “Thank You”!

I have a lot of plans for these shows and for new shows I have cooked up. As some of you have read, I want to branch out beyond Amigas, BBSes and the such. So I have been working hard on new ideas and new ways to do the shows.

But to do all this, we need money. Sad as it is, money makes the world go around and we all need it at one time or another. To make my shows what I really want them to be, I need to start coming up with ways to make the shows pay for themselves. One of course would be advertising on the shows. This is already something that I decided would work. But finding advertisers for a niche’ show like ART or Carrier Whistle is easier said then done. There are only a handful of Amiga dealers and business, and many are just hobby businesses that are done for fun and not making a lot of money. So advertising is not something they think of.So I may end up having to go to NON Amiga sources for advertising on the shows. This would be a tough sell, but I can try.

Another idea is charging for access to the archives of the higher quality shows. Many podcasts do this simply because archiving a ton of shows can be costly. I know ART is kind of dated after a couple weeks, but hey, sometimes we bring the funny. So, we will be offering the 160Kbps versions of the shows for a nominal fee. What that will be? Not sure. But we’re asking you what you are willing to pay. So let us know!

So I think that is it for now. As always, we want to hear from you. If we don’t, then we’re pretty much flying blind. So please let us know what you think!
