Superbowl Snacks

Even though the Cleveland Browns did not make it to the Super Bowl, we will be watching and cheering on the Ravens! Half the fun is eating some great food!

We will be having easy, cheap, but delicious classic football food. These are fast recipes so you can enjoy the game too!

Like Pigs in a Blanket:

1 can of crescent rolls

1 package of mini sausages

Preheat oven to 350

You will only need to use half of a crescent for each sausage.

Simply cut dough in half then wrap around sausage

Repeat until all crescents are used

Place on baking sheet about an inch apart and bake until golden brown.

Serve with your favorite BBQ sauce!!

Or ...

this scrumptious cheese dip:

One jar of Con Queso Dip (my favorite is Taco Bell's)

1/2 lb. ground beef

1 package of taco seasoning

Brown beef in skillet and drain

return to skillet and add taco seasoning (cook according to package)

Next add Con Queso until thoroughly heated

Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!!!

Uses for Coconut Oil

Virgin coconut oil is made from fresh coconut meat called non-copra, as opposed to copra, which is the dry meat used to make refined coconut oil. I was a little confused why coconut oil is so beneficial because I always hear that your should stay away from saturated fats. Coconut oil is loaded with fatty acids and 95 % of them are saturated fats. The good news is these saturated fats are used for energy because they are easily absorbed by the body, not like saturated fats that come from meat.

Coconut oil is pretty inexpensive! I found mine in the vitamin section at Wal-Mart for $10(12oz). Be sure to stay away from coconut oil that uses the word "hydrogenated". Here is a list of other amazing benefits I found through my research...

Five Things to Remember When Renovating Your Kitchen

There are many things to take into account when a homeowner finally has the budget and the nerve to renovate his or her kitchen. But here are only five of them:

The Cost

This is obvious, but then again, it’s amazing that some homeowners don’t pay as much attention to the costs as they should. Though there are some people who have money to burn and don’t really care how much the renovation ends up costing, this isn’t true for most people. Homeowners should draw up a list of absolutely everything that will go into the renovation and how much it will cost, down to the cost of the knobs and drawer pulls. Then, they should add at least 15 percent for cost overruns. This is because the renovation is going to cost more than they think it will.

Hiring a Good Contractor

This is time consuming but in the end will be worth it. The homeowner shouldn’t consider working with a contractor who doesn't have the proper licenses, permits or insurance and who is unfamiliar with the building codes in the area. A homeowner should interview at least three contractors and put the job out for bid. The usual rule is to discount the highest and the lowest bid, though this isn’t ironclad. A contractor must also have a real place of business where he can be contacted and must be willing to sign a very detailed contract with a payment schedule. The homeowner should never pay a contractor all of the money up front. It’s too tempting for a contractor to take the money and disappear after a shoddy or incomplete job.

How Often Will the Kitchen Be Used?

Some homeowners are going to renovate their kitchen because the kids have left home and it’s not going to be used as much. Other homeowners renovate the kitchen because they plan on starting a family and anticipate that the kitchen is going to be used a great deal over time. Other homeowners love to cook and will renovate their kitchen with all sorts of state-of-the art technology to reflect this. Other homeowners enjoy takeaway most of the time, so buying a top-of-the-line stove or oven won’t matter.

Is There Enough Space?

Aside from the question of is there enough money, the homeowner must determine if there's enough space for the shelving, cabinetry, appliances and other things that they want to put into their kitchen. To this end, everything will need to be measured, including the clearance of the cabinet doors. Few things are more frustrating than buying something for the kitchen and there’s simply no room for it. It can be expensive as well.

The Décor

The homeowner will need to figure out what style of kitchen they want. Should it be modern? Victorian? Scandinavian Modern? Somewhat French? Ideally, the kitchen’s decor should complement the decor of the rest of the house or the flat. The style and decor don’t have to mimic the rest of the house absolutely, but the kitchen shouldn’t be jarringly different from the other rooms.

Ways Reuse Your Dryer Sheets

If there is one smell I love it is fabric softener! I decided my whole house needed to smell like fabric softener. So with a little trial error I found some awesome ideas! If you too want the smell of fresh linens throughout your home here are a few tricks! You can even reuse your old sheets from the dryer!

1.Place a dryer sheet in the bag of your vacuum. Every time you sweep your floors the amazing smell will fill the room!

2. Fold a dryer sheet in a square and place it in your heat vents just far enough so you can pull it out. When the heat kicks on, the smell will come through the vent!

3. Place a couple sheets under the seats of your car and say good-bye to the ole pine tree air fresheners!!

4. Have a stinky teenager?? Place several under their bed!!!!

5. We all have a few stinky areas in our homes. We have a shoe closet for boots, work shoes, and gym shoes! You can imagine it might not smell the best, throw a few sheets in the closet and voila! Even throw a couple in the bottom of your trash can to eliminate some pretty nasty odors!

6. If you are really crazy for the smell (like me) place a half of sheet in your pillow case!!!

7. Dryer sheets are also great for dusting electronics, like your TV or computer screen.

8. My two dogs shed and the best way to get pet hair off my clothes is, yep, a dryer sheet!

9. Hate mosquitoes in the summer? Welp, rub any exposed skin with a sheet and it will act as a repellent!

10. Dryer sheets will also eliminate cling. Simply rub a sheet on the under side of your garment and cling be gone!

My newest and favorite trick uses scent boosters and a pod warmer. Instead of buying pods just poor in some scent booster beads, I prefer Downey Unstoppable's. They will melt and make your home smell glorious!!!!!

Burlap and Lights

I love to decorate with burlap! It is so cheap at the fabric store and there are so many cute things you can do with it! I found my burlap at the hobby lobby, you can also visit their website and print a 40% off coupon!

Here are a couple of my burlap creations:

This glass box was originally part of my Christmas décor. It had a big silver bow for holidays. Instead of packing it away, I traded the bow for some burlap!! It is stuffed with string lights and gives our living room a nice cozy feeling!

A few months ago I posted a tutorial about staining my bookshelf. Well here is the finished product! This has turned into my all time favorite piece!

All you need for this burlap creation is burlap ( I used about 2 yards), scissors, and string lights.

This is so simple. Cut the burlap the length you need and then poke the lights through the burlap (this isn't a fire hazard). I poked my lights in all different directions so they were everywhere. You can easily hide the cord with burlap so it won't show! How easy and cheap? I spent a total of $8.00 on both of these crafts!!

DIY Staining Tips

I am no Bob Vila but I recently stained a bookcase that I have had for a few years. I had never stained anything before so I was pretty nervous! It turned out that it was actually fun, easy, and affordable. I Googled some direction but were a little more advanced than I expected so I decided to just go for it! Here is what I did.

First I went to the hardware store and picked the stain color that I wanted. I decided to go with Bombay Mahogany! The brand I chose was Minwax Ployshades because it has the stain and polyurethane in one step which saved me a lot of time! The stain was inexpensive ($8.00) While I was at the store I picked up two paint brushes that were tapered (one big and one smaller for the hard to reach places).

Luckily the bookcase I stained was raw wood so I didn't have to sand it down or strip off any paint.

I set up my work station outside because the stain has a potent smell! Always apply your stain in the same direction as the wood grain. The key is thin coats and nice even brush strokes. Always keep your brush wet because dragging or dabbing your brush will leave thick uneven color and eave brush strokes!

I started at the top and work my way to the bottom, leaving the outside for last. Once it was all stained I let it dry for about 9 hours overnight. Letting the stain soak in so you can see the true color will help you decided if you should apply a second coat. I loved the looked of mine with just one coat.

The final step to staining is to gently rub down your piece of furniture with a fine grain (00) steel wool. This is a very important step before a second coat is applied and once you are completely finished because it helps even out the color from the first or last coat. Once I cleaned all the debris from the steel wool off, my project was complete!!

I was so happy that my first staining project turned out so well!! Staining this bookcase gave the whole room a new look and it was so affordable and easy. This will definitely not be my last DIY staining project!

Wine Bottle Crafts

One of my favorite things to do in the fall is crafts! I work in a restaurant so I saved all the wine bottles I could this summer for crafting. This craft is so easy and will give any room in your home something special!

What you will need:

Wine bottle(s)

Elmer's Glue

Scissors

Yarn

After you choose the yarn of your dreams, you will want to start on the bottom and work your way up the bottle. Spread the glue and slowly wrap the yarn all the way around. Try and wrap the yarn as tight as you can to avoid gaps. Keep adding glue as you wrap. It won't matter if you get the glue on the yarn because it will disappear when the bottle has dried.

Here is picture of my bottle. I chose to use 3 different colors of yarn!

If you don't want to use yarn, you can also use twine.

Both of these ideas are easy, cheap, and super fun!!!!

My mom recently told me about her experience with http://www.t1internet.net/ while she was at work and how much easier it made updating their business website. She was talking about how the bandwidth they had at their office was just not enough to keep up with their growing need so she convinced her boss to switch and things have been so much easier. The reason it applies to me is that I'm having the same issues at my office and since I am in charge of all the things we hire out I'm the one who's going to be responsible for suggesting it to my boss. He has a really hard personality though, so it's not going to be an easy sell. He doesn't like to spend money on anything were not already spending money on and technology is a particularly tough thing to get him to buy into because he like to be able to see and touch what he purchases. I can't blame the man but I really wish he would stop being so hardheaded!

My husband and I love watching stand up comedy! A couple years ago we went to our first live show at the Funny Bone in Columbus. We were able to see Lavell Crawford! If you don't know who he is you are missing out! He was a contestant on the Last Comic Standing and most recently joined the cast of the AMC show Breaking Bad. He also appears frequently on the Chelsea Lately.

Lavell was so funny at the comedy club. It made me love stand up even more! After the show he did a little meet and greet with the audience and I was able to get my picture with him!

I was able to surprise my husband last week with extremely great seats to the Ralphie May show in Lima! The show is just a couple weeks ago and I am so excited! If you like stand up comedy and you haven't seen any of Ralphie May's videos, then I highly suggest you watch the video below!! He is one of our favorites! I am hoping we get the chance to meet him too!!

I have the two most amazing dogs in the world. Although at times they can be a handful, they are my babies and are spoiled rotten! Rambo is our Bullmastiff, he is 4 yrs old and 155 lbs. iPhone 4s

A few months ago, I broke down and purchased my first smart phone. I was constantly getting teased about my old phone, I told everyone that I didn't need all that fancy stuff on my phone. If I wanted to use the internet or play games I would do so on my laptop or ipod. I knew I would love an iPhone because I was never without my iPod touch. For Christmas my husband told me that if I would like one I could order the iPhone 4s. After much deliberation and research, I finally succumbed.

Never in a million years did I expect this phone to be so amazing. Tons of people prefer the Droid but I don't understand why! The iPhone 4s has a mind blowing built feature, Her name is Siri. Siri is a personal assistant, you access her with a push of a button. Cheerful she will do whatever you need, set a reminder, an alarm, send a text message, give you turn-by-turn directions, make your phone calls, and best of all she can answer almost any question. If Siri does not know the answer she will search the internet and find the answer for you.

A lot of people were complaining that the iPhone has an awful battery life, I have yet to see any problems. I use my iPhone throughout the whole day, for Blogging, Facebook, Twitter, E-mail, Music, Games, and tons more. It is pretty much indestructible, I have dropped mine several times and it is like brand new! The camera is amazing! You can take high def videos and pictures and even edit them right after you take them. I am in love with my iPhone, I continue to learn new things everyday!

Daycation!

On Friday my husband and I took a little daycation to the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. We are avid poker players and they have an amazing poker room! We started playing poker at around 7 and didn't quit until 5:30 in the morning! I could not believe how much time had gone by, guess the is why they don't have clocks in casinos! If you have never been and like casinos, then you should definitely check it out. It is beautiful.

There is also a hotel connected to the casino, and several great restaurants.

I don't usually play the slot machines but I got sucked in like a vortex on a Deal or No Deal game! I put 20 bucks in and took 55 out! I wasn't as lucky as the lady next to me who won $300 on a spin! Still I was happy!

Although we had an awesome time and won a little money, the weather was AWFUL!

At home they were getting 5 inches of snow, in Lawrenceburg they got stuck with freezing rain. We woke up the next morning (with only 3 hours of sleep) and headed home thinking that the highways would be clear. We were wrong! They were still ice covered and slicker than snot. We saw several bad car accidents on the way home, making me very grateful we made it home safe, even if it did take a little longer. I am thinking we will be taking another trip for Valentines Day!!
