I had been silent on the web through 2023 and most of 2024 because I’d been bereaved of my beloved wife Elizabeth, and at the same time recovering from (successful) surgery and radiation therapy for cancer of the tongue. Like Isaiah (Isaiah 6:5), I had been a man of unclean lips who’d been dwelling in the midst of a people of unclean lips, and I recognized the surgeon’s knife and the fierce cautery of the radiation as the live coal from the altar that was needed to make me fit to say to the Lord, “Here I am; send me.”
But this had made me want to keep very quiet in public unless I was feeling a divine mandate to express what I recognized as the Truth, and a Truth worth being valiant for, as the Quakers of old used to say, using the language of Jeremiah 9:3.

There’s a lot of emotion about elections, and I hope readers will really try to hear you. I definitely think this can be a valid leading.

I get a lot of flak for following my leading, which is to vote for alternative candidates who seem committed to peace where they are available, and putting a slogan of something in the write-in box if not available. There are huge numbers of people who feel everyone is obligated to vote for a duopoly candidate – someone with a rational chance to win. A fair number of them seem to get angry with anyone who doesn’t follow that path.

And fortunately for you, Trevor, the position of heir apparent to my throne as custodian of the Quaker Bible Index is open, if you want to move back to Richmond and work with me. There’s no money in it, other than the penny that every worker in the Lord’s vineyard gets at the end of the day (Matthew 20:1-16). It would delight me to work with a fellow vinedresser who knew more about computer software than I do so as to make the QBI more user-friendly.
