Lady In The Water Is The Best Movie Ever…

I know many of you are thinking, “does Adam really believe that?” Well the answer to that question is maybe not the best movie ever but if I don’t over hype it how else will I get people to see it.

Anyway, I was down in my theater room this morning (I built it after we sold “Diana”) watching the special features of Lady In The Water and it just reminded me how upset I get about the fact that the movie is not more popular.

Truth be told Lady In The Water is a great movie. Probably M. Night Shyamalan’s best work and yet the movie tanked at the box office compared to his previous box office smashes. People were too busy seeing the latest (lame) installment of Pirates of the Caribbean to see Lady in the Water and so instead of seeing an awesome original movie they saw a sequel that was pretty bad.

Warner Bros did a horrible job marketing the movie touting it as a scary wolf story which totally missed what the movie was.

So bottom line here, if you have ever taken my advice before on this blog then take this advice:

Go buy Lady In The Water on DVD or BluRay. It is a clean well written, well acted movie that everyone should see.
We’ve Already Hit a Snag with Project WHO. No Willing Buyers?

For the life of us we cannot find a willing seller in this niche. It’s killing us. We thought we had someone bite for $12k and then they simply stopped returning our emails. Maybe it’s because Adam offended them with our first offer (you can go so low that you offend the person and they think you’re an idiot…that’s probably what happened).

Or maybe our offer legitimized the site in their eyes and they felt inspired to start working on it again (we’ve been watching it and it’s been sitting dormant for months now).

This has definitely solidified our ideas about the money flowing through this niche. It’s probably a bit more than we originally planned because it seems everyone’s making enough money to want to keep their site. Even in the Prosperly SERPs.
Step 4: Making the Offer(s)

Once you have your list of favorite sites, the contact information, etc. you begin reaching out to each seller. It’s okay to be fishing multiple offers for the same niche simultaneously. You obviously are not contractually obligated to purchase if two sellers come back at the same time.

Here’s where you can use your negotiation prowess.

A few quick tips re: negotiation:

* If possible, get the person to name a price first. Since you’re likely soliciting the purchase, the odds of that happening are slim (unless you’re dealing with a complete nitwit). I love when people contact us to purchase one of our sites: “How much would it take for you to part with yourdomain.com?” Yeah…right. BUT, if you can get them to show you a card, go for it.
* In relation to point one, use anchoring. Retails shops do this all the time when they post the retail price and the sale price. Ever heard of the MSRP? Yeah, car dealers do it too all the time. Anchoring doesn’t need to make logical sense. In the book Winning Decisions by Russo and Shoemaker, they prove statistically that the anchor still works even when completely baseless. How could you anchor your prospect? Giving them your “budget” is one way. Even letting them know you’ve bought sites for as much as $### works. Again, it doesn’t need to make logical sense, but it still works.
* When you’ve been given a good deal, take it. Don’t be greedy and don’t burn bridges.

To make our job easier, we actually have templates that we’ve perfected (you should especially perfect your subject line — a lame subject line means your email is ignored. “LOVE YOUR SITE!” is not effective) when pitching to potential sellers.

This isn’t rocket science, simply let the seller know you’re interested in purchasing their site and were hoping to open a dialog between them. Some emails will bounce, some will be ignored, etc. This is all just part of the game.

When you have a seller that bites, you’ll need to do a bit more due diligence about that site. The best thing you can do is have the seller give you read-only access to their website stats. If they’re using Google Analytics (you can tell this by looking at their site’s source and checking for the GA code) then simply have them add your gmail.com email address as a user. You’ll then be able to dig to your heart’s content.

If the seller is not willing to give you as much traffic data as you’d like, walk away.

We’ve found 95% of sellers are more than willing to give you any information you need to help the deal go through.

So, once you’ve done your due diligence, seeing that what you had originally surmised is true, or close enough, you can make your first offer. Give the seller your lowest fair offer. Adam and I have lost opportunities to buy a website because we low-balled the potential seller so badly they simply ignored us. If you’re trying to purchase a site and would reasonably pay $12,000, do not offer $750. It’s counterproductive.

If the seller accepts, get a contract to them so everything is legal and straight-laced. We have a standard contract we use. You’re welcome to use it as well if you’re part of the Prosperly Beginners. We’ve lost out on some great deals in the past because we didn’t have the buyer (in this instance) legally bound to purchase and they walked without giving any reason whatsoever.

People always ask me how often they should add content to their site to maximize their SEO efforts. So I don’t have to answer this question anymore I have decided to write the definitive answer that I can point anyone to in the future.

Let’s say you have 20 articles to add to your site. Here is the secret to SEO:

Add 1 article the first week and then 3 more articles spread out through the next week. Then the following week add 2 articles in one day and then add 1 article the next week. Then add 1 each day for 4 days and on day 5 take one off. Then the next week add 2. Replace the one you took off and then add 3 the next week. Then add 2 a week for 2 weeks. If you follow this pattern exactly you will crack the Google code.

The truth is I don’t know the answer. In fact I don’t think there is an answer. Do what makes sense for your website. If you have 500 articles that can be written and add new unique content to your genre then write the content and add it to your site. If you are adding nothing new to the content in your genre that is already out there then adding a ton won’t do much for you.

I have also been asked, once the articles are on the site how quickly should I point links to them.

As far as links go, it doesn’t matter when you add them, Google will find them when they find them and so you can add them now or in a week and they still might not find them for 3 weeks. Just add them.

The point is, don’t get too wrapped up in the details of SEO. Add good unique content to your site and get good quality relevant links to point to your content and you will do well in the search engines.

I got an email from my brother-in-law Jeff this morning explaining to me the difference in adsense money he is making on two of his websites. Site A is his old website(his baby) that he has been building for the last year or so and has achieved nominal success, enough to show him that some money can be made on the internet.

On this site he sells an ebook as his main source of revenue and then uses google adsense as well to make some extra income. Well Jeff is no dumby and has been watching what Jesse and I have been doing for the past year and a half and decided to start another site in a much more competitive yet lucrative industry.

He realized that in order to make a full time living online Site A probably wasn’t going to get him there. So he has been running both sites over the last couple of months and has finally started to see some traffic with the new more competitive Site B.

Here is what the email said:

Adam,
There is AdSense Money, then there is Ad$ense Money.

I knew the value of each industry varied but i had no idea it was by so much!

Having seen the difference in earnings per click, where should he spend his time? Even if he only gets one fourth the traffic to Site B it will so far outperform Site A that he should spend 90% of his time on Site B. You can also see here that the click through rate for Site B is much higher as well.

Although working on Site A was good for him because it gave him a lot of internet marketing experience and a taste of success, he finally realized that there were much larger fish he could be going after. He also realized that if he was going to work so many hours on a site there should be a bigger payoff. I promise you that his motivation to work on Site B is at an all time high.

The lesson here is that if you have to take the time to work hard on a website idea, why not make sure that there is money to be made in the industry your website is in. The last thing you want to do is spend hundreds of hours on a site that will cap out at making you $1000 a month.

Hello and thank you for visiting Team-Schuman.com. My name is Jeff Schuman and since the fall of 2002 I have been making money working online from the comfort of my own home.

In my case answering questions for surveys and doing data entry were not really what I had in mind. Now I am not knocking anyone who can do this type of work. Certainly there are major corporations and businesses who find it less expensive for them to pay people to do that for them from home than to hire an employee and pay them a salary and benefits. Maybe even you!

So I started looking closer at how to make money online specifically with my own website and bulding an internet business of my own at home.

Here's what I found.

1. There really were people making money on the internet.
2. Anyone could use the internet to make money at home.
3. It was a lot harder than it sounded.

What I soon learned was that the internet was a virtually untapped source for ways to make money. But for a new person like myself it was so confusing. I know the value of getting help when I need it. I knew I needed to find someone I could trust that was making money online and could teach me to do the same thing.
