Good morning everyone!!

Hope your weekend was great.

Today is VERY cold here in London and kind of cloudy, however in my heart I still keep all the sun that I enjoyed last Summer (and Autumn!).

These are some of the photographs I was taking while Sebastian was filming me for this video. It was early October and that day the temperature was like 30ºC! It even reminded me of Barcelona at one point, ha ha ha!

I love the Geffrye Museum, its architecture, its garden, the collection. If you haven't visited it yet please do. You'll surely enjoy the visit :)

Espero que vuestro fin de semana haya estado fenomenal.

Hoy está nublado y además hace un frio que pela aquí en Londres pero de cualquier modo tengo mucho sol del pasado verano y otoño guardado en mi corazón para disfrutar todavía ;)

En este post van algunas de las fotos que estaba haciendo mientras Sebastián me filmaba para este video. Ese día a comienzos de Octubre hacía TANTO sol y calor. Londres me recordaba a Barcelona y todo!

El lugar es el Geffrye Museum, ando enamorada de su arquitectura, su jardín y su colección. Si no lo habeis visitado todavía por favor id cuando os pille a mano, seguro que os encanta :)

The Prettiest Sewing Machine

Feeling very lucky that a super nice lady gave me this beautiful sewing machine a week ago.

It's my first sewing machine!!!

I'm calling it Cleo and these last days I've been learning how to take care of it -oil, cleaning, etc- meanwhile I look for lovely sewing patterns from the 20's and 30's (I know I'm just a beginner but I like to start with stylish projects ;).

Do you sew? Where do you get your patterns??

I've found this site and looks VERY promising, have you tried it?

Me siento muy afortunada de que una señora super divina me regaló hace una semana esta máquina de coser. ¡Nunca había tenido una antes y estoy emocionada!

La llamo Cleo y estos días he estado aprendiendo a como cuidarla -aceitado, limpieza, etc- mientras buscaba patrones bonitos de los años 20 y 30 (ya se que soy una novata, pero quiero aprender con projectos estilosos para motivarme ;).

¿Coseis? Si es así, ¿dónde conseguís los patrones?

William Morris at Two Temple Place

Time ago I visited the William Morris exhibition at Two Temple Place (some pics I took in this post).

Loved the show because I love all Arts & Crafts, however must admit that for a more in-depth retrospective I prefer visiting the William Morris Gallery with their super extensive collection.

Nevertheless the visit was absolutely worth as the selected pieces are brilliant and the venue is more than amazing. Look forward to the next show to have an excuse to visit that amazing piece of architecture again.

Pay it a visit if you are around, the Morris show ends on Sunday -sorry for the late notice!-.

Hace tiempo visité la expo de William Morris que hay en Two Temple Place (en este post van algunas fotitos que hice con el movil).

Me encantó la muestra porque soy muy fan del movimiento Arts & Crafts aunque he de admitir que para una retrospectiva hecha y derecha me decanto totalmente por visitar la William Morris Gallery con la colección tan extensa que tienen.

A pesar de esto que os comento la muestra en Two Temple Place es brillante y el edificio en el que está montada es totalmente increible de bello y ornamentado. Muchas ganas de que inauguren la próxima expo para tener una excusa y poder visitar esa maravilla arquitectónica de vuelta ;)

Si estais por Londres y os apetece ver la expo hacerlo antes del Domingo que termina -perdón por avisar con tan poco tiempo de reacción!-.

A Secret About "En Las Nubes"

My print "En Las Nubes" is today on sale at Fab.com.

It's been also recently featured on Martha Stewart's Whole Living Magazine.

It's a pity Fab.com don't ship to the UK but in a way is better for my economy -too many temptations-. However yesterday I learnt from Bamarang.co.uk, a website that looks a bit like the British version of Fab! Good news! :D

Now let me tell you a secret:

The original "En Las Nubes" was landscape but after finishing the composition I decided to crop it and leave it as a portrait.

In this post you can see the original composition and the recovered left area of the illustration.

Transformation Circles and Anthroposophic Retrospectives

Morning everyone! And Happy Chinese New Year!!

To celebrate this new beginning I want to tell you about a new project.

For years I've been having dreams in which I see dazzling rounded mandala-like shapes. This took me to research and learn a lot about Mandalas, Yantras, Sacred Geometry and many other things.

Recently I've started building some of this mandala-like shapes for a new art project in which I'll continue exploring life's cycles (like in Visual Mantras) but this time focusing more on change and transformation.

The images in this post are digitally rendered as they are just the schemes to produce the new painting series. The canvases are already cut (1 x 1 m) and the backgrounds are already painted. This week the fun of drawing and painting the shapes begins. Can't wait :)

PS: If you are close to the Vitra Museum please pay a visit to their Rudolf Steiner exhibition they are holding and tell me all about it. I want to visit it badly. *.*

Para celebrar este nuevo comienzo quiero hablaros de un proyecto nuevo.

Desde hace años en mis sueños a veces aparecen unas formas deslumbrantes que parecen un poco mandala. Este hecho me llevó a investigar y aprender mucho sobre Mandalas, Yantras, Geometría Sagrada y más temas similares.

Recientemente he comenzado a construir unos esquemas "mandálicos" para un nuevo proyecto artístico en el que seguiré explorando los ciclos de la vida como en Visual Mantras pero esta vez más enfocada en el cambio y la transformación.

Lo que va en este post son esquemas digitales que van a dar paso a unas series de lienzos de un metro por un metro. Las telas ya están cortadas y los fondos ya están aplicados así que esta semana comienza la mejor parte que es la de dibujar y pintar. Que ganas :)

PD: Si estais cerca del Museo Vitra por favor pasaros por la exposición retrospectiva que tienen sobre Rudolf Steiner y contadme todo sobre ella. Estoy como loca por visitarla. *.*

A Documentary about the Inspiring Woman Behind Dada

For years I've been wanting to share this documentary with you but I thought it was not available to watch online so I didn't want to post about things that you can fully watch and experience... but what a wonderful surprise to find this inspiring documentary about Beatrice Wood available on UBU!! :)

Beatrice or "Mama Dada" as many people know her, was an amazing artist and human being. She lived for 105 years and she confessed that what kept her so alive and wonderfully was young men and chocolate... wise woman indeed ;)

Jules et Jim, the legendary movie by François Truffaut is a portrait of the triangular love relationship that she had with Marcel Duchamp and Henri-Pierre Roche (Roche wrote the original Jules et Jim novel).

You can't imagine my joy yesterday when I received Open Culture's newsletter letting me know that the Guggenheim has put online 65 modern art ebooks to check freely... So many wonderful publications are waiting for you dear readers! ...meanwhile as an appetizer here you are some screenshots that I've made for you :)

The first painting is taken from this Leger book and the last three come from "Art of the Avant-Garde in Russia: Selections from the George Costakis Collection"

Hilma af Klint

When I find out about the work of an artist that has plenty of similarities with my body of work I feel the need to keep a distance. Learning too much about him or her might influence me more than I would like so I try to "ignore" them... Might sound funny but it's true!

When I found out Sonia Delaunay or Gunta Stolzl's work I couldn't believe how influenced by them I was without knowing it! Since then I try to ignore their work as much as I can in order to focus on my own path and not end up distracted along the path...

I don't usually buy Art Magazines but when in November 2010 I saw the cover of the Frieze's "Religion & Spirituality" issue I couldn't resist and had to buy it. The image on the cover haunted me. It was Hilma af Klint's work.

Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was a psychic and a painter. Her story is very inspiring but also a bit frustrating as she was quite misunderstood at her time (even Rudolf Steiner suggested her setting fire to her paintings at one point!!).

Here you can watch a conference about her work and on this post you can see some of her paintings. Inspiring isn't it??

After sharing her work with you I'll continue to ignore it as I've been doing since 2010 ;)

Cuando encuentro el trabajo de un/a artista con quien creo que tengo muchas influencias en común siento que necesito mantener las distancias... Saber demasiado sobre él o ella puede influenciarme más de lo que yo quisiera y por lo tanto trato de ignorarlos todo lo posible... ja ja ja. Quizás os suena rarito pero es lo que mejor me funciona.

Cuando descubrí la obra de Sonia Delaunay o Gunta Stolzl no me podía creer las similitudes que tenía mi obra con la suya sin haberla tenido en cuenta! Desde entonces las tengo bastante ignoradas para mantenerme enfocada en mi propio camino.

Normalmente no compro revistas de arte pero cuando en Noviembre del 2010 vi este numero de Frieze que iba sobre "Religión y espiritualidad" no me pude resistir a comprarlo. La imagen de la portada me atrapó. Era una obra de Hilma af Klint.

Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) era vidente y pintora. Una mística con una historia muy interesante pero que fue un poco incomprendida en su época (hasta Rudolf Steiner le sugirió en un momento que quemara todas sus pinturas!!).

Aquí va una conferencia sobre ella que he encontrado en YouTube y en este post van algunas de sus pinturas. ¿Inspiradoras, verdad?

Después de compartir su trabajo con vosotros volveré a ignorarla como llevaba haciéndolo desde el 2010 ;)

2012: Time for Change

Happy New Year dear all!!!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas time and 2012 is treating you well so far! :)

Sorry that I haven't posted these last weeks but I needed to enjoy some "silent time" and being offline as much as I could. Too much information and stimuli overwhelms me at times...

One of my new year's resolutions is to share here more openly with you the things I care about. With the video that Sebastian made about me you already learnt that I had a breakthrough in 2007. It was a dark period for me, I wasn't feeling well at all and many of my unresolved issues from the past came to the surface as well. The only way out that I found was: healthy living and mindfulness. Since that moment self-develpment became my main priority. The better I feel the more I can help others and the planet ;)

Writing about this made me think of 2012 Time for Change. This amazing documentary became an instant hit at home since our friends Federico and Natalia shared it with us a year ago it. It speaks a language I connect with. No fatalism, no crazy prophecies, just hope and smart solutions to build a better future for us all. Plants that clean toxic water, sustainable dwelling solutions, permaculture, spirituality... watch it please, and let me know what do you think :)

Also a very good film that I watched recently -thanks Patricia for the recommendation!!- is "La Belle Verte". Inspiring and very funny!

¡¡Feliz año nuevo a todos!!

¡Espero que hayais tenido unas navidades fantásticas y que el 2012 os esté tratando bien!

Disculpad que no he posteado estas últimas semanas pero necesitaba un tiempecito de "silencio online". A veces tanta información y estímulo me agota necesito desconectar un poco para recuperar fuerzas.

Uno de mis propósitos para este año es hablar más abiertamente en el blog de las cosas que me importan. En el video que Sebastián hizo sobre mí ya menciono el 2007 como momento clave de cambio en mi vida. Fue un periodo un poco oscuro, mucho estrés de todo tipo se me junto con algunos temas del pasado aun no resueltos que andaba ignorando porque me hacía daño solo el plantearmelos. En fín... la cosa es que imagino que tuve que llegar a un límite así para abrirme al cambio más importante que hice en mi vida: convertir mi desarrollo personal y espiritual en mi principal prioridad para así conseguir cada día sentirme mejor y de este modo cada vez poder ayudar más a los demás y a nuestro planeta.

Escribir sobre esto me ha hecho acordarme de este documental tan inspirador que nuestros amigos Federico y Natalia nos prestaron hace un año. Nada mas verlo verlo pasó a ser de mis favoritos totales en esta categoria. Habla en un lenguaje con el que conecto totalmente, nada de fatalismos ni profecías locas con explosiones y John Cusack salvando el mundo; simplemente soluciones inteligentes para ayudar a construir un futuro mejor para todos. Plantas que convierten agua tóxica en potable, nuevas ideas de arquitectura sostenible, permacultura, espiritualidad... miradlo por favor y contadme que os ha parecido :)

Tambien es muy buena esta peli que vi hace poco gracias a Patricia que me la recomendó. Se llama "La Belle Verte" y es super inspiradora y muy divertida!!

Months ago the lovely ladies of Little Paper Planes got in touch with me to ask if I was interested in making a video showing a bit of my studio, routine, etc for their soon to be launch online TV channel.

Can't even express the shyness attack I felt in the beginning just to think about the idea... ha ha ha. I'm very grateful that my beloved Sebastian convinced me to go ahead with it and let him take care of the shooting, editing and so on...

Now watching the video can't stop trying to imagine how will it feel forty years from now to look at this material again. I guess it will be funny to witness this portrait of my early londoner life :)

Hace unos meses las señoritas de Little Paper Planes se pusieron en contacto conmigo para pedirme que hiciera un video en el que mostrara un poco mi estudio, rutina, etc para un canal de TV online que estaban planeando.

No os puedo ni expresar el ataque de timidez que me dió al principio solo de pensar en dicho video... ja ja ja. Menos mal que mi querido Sebastián me convenció para ir adelante con ello y me propuso hacerse cargo de la filmación y edición el mismo.

Ahora que veo el video trato de imaginarme que me provocará dentro de 40 años el ver este material de nuevo. Supongo que sera muy divertido ver este pequeño retrato de los comienzos de mi vida londinense :)

Hace tantísimo que tenía este website 42 horas de Buckminster Fuller hablando sobre todo tipo de temas entre mis bookmarks... no sacaba tiempo para ponerme a asimilar toda la información. Bueno, pues hoy he descubierto que algún alma caritativa lo ha subido a YouTube para que podamos ir viendo trocito a trocito. Aquí va la parte 1 de 159... un buen visionado para las vacaciones de navidad?? ;)

Easiest Dessert Ever

So nice it's Friday and sooo sunny!! :)

To celebrate I'm sharing a recipe to make the easiest dessert ever... and it's even delicious and healthy!

The basic recipe to make these raw vegan truffles is:

-1 cup of dates

-1 cup almonds (or the nuts you prefer... i.e. today I've used 1/2 cup blanched almonds and 1/2 cup raw cashews)

-1 cup of shredded coconut (or coconut ribbons, etc)

This is the base of it all. If you put this inside a food processor with a table spoon of water and the dough will be yummy already, you just need to give them their little rounded shapes -wash your hands and keep them moist for the dough not to get sticky- and store them in a tight air container. Guess they could last for a week or so in the fridge but they tend to disappear faster than that here ;)

However I add many different extras to the basic dough make it more nutritious (and decadent)...

These are the extras that I usually add to the mix:

-2 tbs soaked Goji berries

-1 tbs ground hemp seeds

-1 tbs rice syrup -any other syrup is fine!-

-2 tbs cocoa powder

-1 tbs coconut raw virgin oil

-1 ts vanilla extract

-A pinch of salt and cayenne -just a bit to bring up the flavours-

With this superfood mix the truffles are delicious but you can try experimenting adding different spices or almond butter or fresh ginger or poppy seeds... the possibilities are endless and make me hungry just to think of them... ;)

In the pics you see three different variations. One is coated in cocoa powder, another is coated in shredded coconut and the third one is coated in toasted almond flour mixed with grounded clove, cinnamon, ginger and jamaican pepper.

¡Que bien que es viernes ...y además hace solazo! :D

Para celebrar hoy subo esta receta de trufas crudiveganas que es super sencilla y además está riquísima y es muy nutritiva además de saludable.

La receta base es esta:

-1 taza de dátiles

-1 taza de almendras -sin piel- (o los frutos secos que os apetezcan, yo por ejemplo hoy hecho mitad anacados-mitad almendras)

-1 taza de coco rallado (o lazos de coco, etc.) Importante que no esté endulzado.

Si pones estos ingredientes en un robot de cocina con una cucharada de agua te va a quedar una masa que va a ser super rica ya y que puedes dejar asi mismo simplemente dándole la forma a las trufitas y almacenandolo en un tupperware o similar. Importante mojarse las manos un poco para manipular la masa, así no se te pegará en las manos.

Las trufas imagino que se mantendrán bien en el frigo por una semanita o así pero en mi casa nunca han durado tanto... ;)

Ya os he explicado la receta básica, ahora os cuento lo que yo le añado a la mezcla para que sea todavía más nutritivo -y decadente-.

Estos extras le pongo a la masa cuando lo estoy procesando:

-2 cucharadas soperas de bayas Goji un poco remojadas

-1 cucharada sopera de semillas de cañamo molidas

-1 cucharada sopera de sirope de arroz -Agave, datil o similares está perfecto también!-

-2 cucharadas soperas de cacao en polvo

-1 cucharada sopera de aceite de coco virgen

-1 cucharita de extracto de vainilla

-Una pizquita de sal y cayena -solo un poquitín para realzar el sabor-

Con estos añadidos de "super alimentos" las trufitas salen deliciosas pero podeis probar añadiendo diferentes especias, o mantequilla de almendra, o jengibre fresco, o semillas de amapola... las posibilidades son infinitas y me dan hambre solo de pensarlas!

En las fotos hay tres variaciones de la receta. Una es cubriendo con cacao en polvo, otra es rebozando con coco rallado, y la tercera está cubierta de harina de almendra que he tostado en la sarten y a la que le he añadido un poco de clavo molido, canela, jengibre en polvo y pimienta de Jamaica.

Since I was a kid always have been a lover of mythology.

At 16 when I was in Art School read lots about it and when in Art History class I saw for the first time this painting by Brozino it blew my mind.

The complexity of the subjects represented in the same composition, the movement of it, Venus' soft pale skin...

Last Tuesday before watching this amazing documentary by Paul Kelly I paid a short visit to the National Gallery to say hello in person to this amazing piece.

Siempre me ha fascinado la mitología.

A los 16, cuando estaba en la escuela de arte leía bastante sobre el tema y cuando en clase de historia del arte descubrí esta pintura de Bronzino me volvió loca.

La complejidad de la temática representada en una sola composición, su dinamismo, la piel tan suave y pálida de Venus...

El pasado martes antes de ir a ver este documental tan genial de Paul Kelly pasé un ratito por la National Gallery para saludar a esta pieza tan extraordinaria. Que maravilla tenerla cerca para poder visitarla siempre que me apetezca ;)

Feeling sleepy and tired after a working weekend, but I'm very happy nevertheless with this sunny londoner morning. Having my Pukka "Morning Time" and planning to practice yoga in a bit in order to wake up properly -Kundalini is better than coffee!- :)

Time ago my friend Lupe tweeted about this Dada magazine by Francis Picabia time ago. Love that with the magic of the internet now one can download hi-res PDFs from one of a kind publications like this.

Me he despertado cansadita y medio atontada después de un fin de semana de lo más laboral pero a pesar de eso me siento super contenta solo de mirar por la ventana y ver que mañana londinense tan soleada ha salido hoy. Me estoy tomando un Pukka "Morning Time" y planeo practicar yoga en breve para así despertarme de verdades -el Kundalini es mejor que la cafeina!- :)

Hace tiempo mi amiga Lupe tuiteó sobre esta revista Dada que sacó Francis Picabia en su momento. Me encanta que la magia de internet ahora hace posible que uno pueda descargarse PDFs a alta resolución de publicaciones tan especiales como esta.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Hope you are having a great day both if celebrate it or not.

I regularly practice a "gratitude meditation" (like this one for example) in which I think and thank for all the wonders in life. I'm thankful for all the good things that fill my heart with joy, love and inspiration... but also thankful the not so good things because they make me grow and become a bit wiser each day ;)

The thing I'm not wise enough is to do is taking good pictures of Topo Dorado. The colour and finish of this wallpaper is so subtle that's very difficult to capture with the camera... I took these pictures last week but I'll keep trying.

Espero que esteis teniendo un muy buen día tanto si lo celebrais como si no.

A menudo practico una "meditación de gratitud" (muy similar a esta) en la que pienso y agradezco todas las maravillas de la vida. Doy gracias por todas las cosas buenas que me llenan el corazón de alegría, amor e inspiración... pero también agradezco las cosas no tan buenas porque me hacen crecer y me obligan a ser un poquito más sabia cada día que pasa ;)

Con lo que no soy demasiado sabia es con lo de hacer buenas fotos del Topo Dorado. El color y el acabado de este papel de pared son tan sutiles y especiales que se me hace muy dificil el capturarlo con la cámara... hice estas fotos la semana pasada pero lo seguiré intentando cada tanto, es como un reto personal, ja ja ja.

Inner Sun

Last night when I was falling asleep something happened.

The bedroom was in the darkness but every time I closed my eyes it was so sunny! It was a sunny afternoon in nature, by a lake. Autumnal light but very bright. Started to open and close my eyes repeatedly and I was very surprised because it keep happening until I fell asleep... opened my eyes: darkness, closed my eyes: sun. So exciting!!

Then I thought about a documentary I saw the other day about the power of dreams in Tibetan Buddishm... in it is explained that the reality we live in is also an illusion (Maya) so dreams and daylife have the same importance therefore it's key to give importance to our dream lives. This way of thinking is also very similar to the Shamanic way of understanding reality vs. dreams.

I think that this inner sun is the result of my need for more light during the Londoner winter -it's been dark and foggy these last days-. Hoping to be able to sunbathe again tonight ;)

Anoche ya en la cama cuando me iba a dormir algo diferente sucedió.

Al apagar la luz del dormitorio estaba todo en la oscuridad pero cuando cerraba los ojos había mucha luz del sol. Una escena muy vívida, una orilla de un lago otoñal bañada por una luz intensa y cálida típica del inicio de la tarde. Comencé a abrir y cerrar los ojos repetidamente para ver si se iba o se quedaba esa visión y permaneció conmigo hasta quedarme dormida... abría los ojos: oscuridad, los cerraba: sol. :O

Entonces pensé en un documental que vi el otro día sobre el poder de los sueños en el Budismo Tibetano... en este explican que nuestra vida diurna (Maya) tiene la misma importancia que nuestra vida onírica por lo tanto es clave darle la importancia que se merece a lo que soñamos. Esta manera de entender este tema es muy similar a la del chamanismo por ejemplo.

Creo que este sol interior a aparecido para compensar mi necesidad de más luz durante el invierno londinense, estos últimos días han sido bastante oscuros y nublados. Ojalá esta noche pueda tomar el sol de nuevo ;)

Raoul Dufy + Beginners

The huge room painted by Raoul Dufy we visited recently in Paris triggered a Dufy-fever in me. Love how natural and effortless look the strokes and the vibrant colour combinations...

La sala con el fresco gigante pintado por Raoul Dufy que visitamos hace poco en Paris disparó una "Dufyfiebre" en mi que no veais... Me encantan lo naturales que se ven sus trazos y esas combinaciones de colores tan vibrantes...

By the way, did I tell you how beautiful Beginners is? Loved it.

Por cierto, ¿os había dicho lo maravillosa que es la película Beginners? Me encantó.

House Lettering + Eames Documentary

When the weather is cold I can only think of staying home and cook, draw, read, watch movies.

Talking about movies... I'm counting the minutes to watch this wonderful documentary about Charles & Ray Eames!! Looks amazing *.*
