We are, it is true, a nation founded by Christians, and according to a 2008 survey, 76 percent of us continue to identify as Christian (still, that's the lowest percentage in American history). Of course, we are not a Hindu—or Muslim, or Jewish, or Wiccan—nation, either. A million-plus Hindus live in the United States, a fraction of the billion who live on Earth. But recent poll data show that conceptually, at least, we are slowly becoming more like Hindus and less like traditional Christians in the ways we think about God, our selves, each other, and eternity.

The Rig Veda, the most ancient Hindu scripture, says this: "Truth is One, but the sages speak of it by many names." A Hindu believes there are many paths to God. Jesus is one way, the Qur'an is another, yoga practice is a third. None is better than any other; all are equal. The most traditional, conservative Christians have not been taught to think like this. They learn in Sunday school that their religion is true, and others are false. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me."

Americans are no longer buying it. According to a 2008 Pew Forum survey, 65 percent of us believe that "many religions can lead to eternal life"—including 37 percent of white evangelicals, the group most likely to believe that salvation is theirs alone. Also, the number of people who seek spiritual truth outside church is growing. Thirty percent of Americans call themselves "spiritual, not religious," according to a 2009 NEWSWEEK Poll, up from 24 percent in 2005. Stephen Prothero, religion professor at Boston University, has long framed the American propensity for "the divine-deli-cafeteria religion" as "very much in the spirit of Hinduism. You're not picking and choosing from different religions, because they're all the same," he says. "It isn't about orthodoxy. It's about whatever works. If going to yoga works, great—and if going to Catholic mass works, great. And if going to Catholic mass plus the yoga plus the Buddhist retreat works, that's great, too."

Then there's the question of what happens when you die. Christians traditionally believe that bodies and souls are sacred, that together they comprise the "self," and that at the end of time they will be reunited in the Resurrection. You need both, in other words, and you need them forever. Hindus believe no such thing. At death, the body burns on a pyre, while the spirit—where identity resides—escapes. In reincarnation, central to Hinduism, selves come back to earth again and again in different bodies. So here is another way in which Americans are becoming more Hindu: 24 percent of Americans say they believe in reincarnation, according to a 2008 Harris poll. So agnostic are we about the ultimate fates of our bodies that we're burning them—like Hindus—after death. More than a third of Americans now choose cremation, according to the Cremation Association of North America, up from 6 percent in 1975. "I do think the more spiritual role of religion tends to deemphasize some of the more starkly literal interpretations of the Resurrection," agrees Diana Eck, professor of comparative religion at Harvard. So let us all say "om."

Article copyrighted and can be read at: Newsweek's website.
Note: The posts have been published in my blog http://ananthadiary.blogspot.com

Gives you something to think about.

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband’s employer’s home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house.

The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband’s employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny?

Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She causally mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.

A smile crept across the man’s face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before!

What was the point of this?

“Look at it.” He said. “Read what it says” She read the words “United States of America.”

“No, not that; read further.”

“One cent?” “No, keep reading.”

“In God we Trust?” “Yes!” “And?”

“And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God’s way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, “In God We Trust,” and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful!

And God is patient...

I do not know who is the author, but he/she deserves appreciation
Note: The posts have been published in my blog http://ananthadiary.blogspot.com

The path on which I was travelling had some stumbling blocks and I had to fall down. By yesterday close of business, I culminated my journey, and was diverted to a new one.

Though it is a simple change of team for me logically, it impacts me in many ways. Firstly, I have to study a new domain and secondly it throws me in a position to be familiarized with a new team. New faces, new rules, new gameplans and so on.

But with this change I really like to change myself in what areas what I feel I am lacking. Let this be a new start for me in terms of my career where I can build up a long term vision and an untired effort to achieve what I vision for.

Challenges such as this is really new to me. Frankly speaking I was able to digest the mental stress and was able to perform in a positive manner. I think this is my greatest strength.

Well today was a mere trial day for me in this new experiment, so I do not bother whether I was able to move in the right direction or not. But I showed signs of trying in this direction. Hope I will be able to move in this direction and attain a clear career goal as well as a new life born.
Note: The posts have been published in my blog http://ananthadiary.blogspot.com

It is purely due to my work pressures and on top of that a feeling of a saturated mind.

The saturated mind, or what writers call a creative block is of no use to anyone as it causes deep frustration and helplessnes. If this block continues it will even ruin ones career as a writer. I though not pursuing a role of a writer am feeling the same glitch that comes with a creative block. I am going to beat this heat by continued efforts to write something until I am back.

As a precursor to this post I have convinced myself that what I write is not important. I am writing this article boarded in a bus, so that I cannot complain about lack of time.

Time is precious. Okay you have heard this enough. How much precious you have felt with time. I am not a privileged person to be allowed a fraction of second more than any other person in my sight, nor is any one in this planet. That means even US president Barrack Obama, or a Tom Cruise, or a David Beckham all shares the same amount of time a day that I does.

Coming back to know the importance of time, tell me who has not hurried to office if late? Hardly any, right. This tells not only about reaching office on time but your personal life can also go haywire. For example ask a lover who was forcefully broken out of the relationship just because of not managing time. All sorts of things happen out of this rush to follow time. This is where a secret ingredient of life comes into picture. If you want to lead a successful enviable life and lifestyle, first learn to manage time.

There is no sure shot method of beating the time menace, there are some guidelines. First thing to do is to plan your day before it starts unfolding. You cannot control how your day should be, but you can train yourself to be using most optimistically the time available. Do not worry if you are unable to meet your plans initially. It actually should fail, otherwise you are managing your time already either knowingly or unknowingly. If you are failing then the second step is to analyze what went wrong in the day at the end of the day. This is the most important practise one has to make a routine of. The other best practises for managing time will unfold automatically before you. Best of luck.
Note: The posts have been published in my blog http://ananthadiary.blogspot.com

Otherwise I would not have read this blog by Al Gore.

------------------
"Chinese leaders have adopted a plan aimed at turning the country into one of the leading producers of hybrid and all-electric vehicles within three years, and making it the world leader in electric cars and buses after that."

"The goal, which radiates from the very top of the Chinese government, suggests that Detroit's Big Three, already struggling to stay alive, will face even stiffer foreign competition on the next field of automotive technology than they do today."

Our security crisis, our economic crisis and our climate crisis are all connected. By leading the world in the creation of renewable technology, we will not only put America back to work, but we can also reduce our dependence on foreign oil and help solve the climate crisis.

If, instead, we allow other nations to take the lead in developing the technologies of the future, we would put our entire economy at risk for the next generation. Repowering America is not only about solving the climate crisis; it’s about leading the world. If we don’t, others are sure to take our place.
-----------------
From
http://blog.algore.com/2009/04/electric_cars_and_china_yes_th.html

See how the politicians of the country respond. The jog falls have been there in back of my mind always, all through.

Falling from around 920 odd ft. it is the country's largest single plunge of water down. The time I choose to visit with my friends was though not interesting enough, its summer. But what I thought is it is far better than sitting idle on the weekend.

It was an unusual trip that I planned this time; no plans. It was a less adventurous trip but more of fun trip for us. We were four, with a mixture of transport modes. Initially we travelled by train from bangalore to shimoga. There we took a single room for an hour or so and got fresh. Then hired a car till the Jog.

On the way we also visited an age -old temple at Ikkeri, and also an ashram at Varadahalli. The temple was at its best as our country's all other temples. It has lot of sculptures around, one has to spent a whole day researching them. I would love to visit this lonely temple once again and to know more about its grandeur and to record the details.

At the samadhy spot in Varadahalli, it was peace all around. In the midst of a small hill the temple dedicated to Sridhar Swamy and the samadhy spot at Darmadwaja which is in a jungle path from the temple never fails to amuse and think of ourselves.

We were heading to Jog afterwards, and knew beforehand that we are not going to witness lot of water plunging from mountain top. But what we witnessed was nature's fury in summer. There was literally no water. Thanks to the dams built around this falls, it is skinner than I thought.

But we could travel deep inside where we could have never ventured in rainy season.

It was huge rocks and rock formations that we had to hurdle to reach where the water was. It was really a trek kind of feeling. But the sun was making us exhausted very easily. Only when we were near where water was dropping down we could get some consolation from the sun. The water was breaking down and it travelled with the wind to give us a little and much needed comfort. It was am amazing experience though.

We then started towards shimoga and caught up the train to bangalore.
Note: The posts have been published in my blog http://ananthadiary.blogspot.com

The song is really keeping me interested a lot. I was playing in loop the songs of delhi-6 today. Out of this the most amazing song today was kaala bandhar.

But the lyrics other than hey kaala kaala bandhar fails to inspire me singing. But this does not break me from hearing this song. There is some jaadu in this number nicely composed by academy award winner A.R.Rahman.

I have to more listen to the english rap inside this song. It must be probably by blaaze. I have to check my CD cover. Could not do it while at work, will have to do tonight.
Note: The posts have been published in my blog http://ananthadiary.blogspot.com
